when bell’s parents, especially her mother found out about bell’s high IQ when she was younger, she did everything she could to make sure that her daughter was in the best classes and maintained the best grades she possibly could. at a young age bell already knew the pressures of trying to be the smartest and the perfect student. because of this, it made it that much harder for her to make friends. it didn’t help that she was younger than her peers, but she was also the top of her class.
this also caused a strain in her relationship with her mother. with all the pressure she had to maintain being at the top of her class and to have the best grades it always stressed bell out from a young age and she really hated it, honestly.
because of this, bell always felt like she didn’t have her own voice, or that what she say didn’t matter because she wouldn’t be listened to.
she became so used to trying to make other people happy and giving them what they wanted thanks to her mother, that it was something that transferring into her other relationships, especially after she got married.
she was very much like that with best when they started to date. she’d pour her heart and soul into their relationship and making sure that he was happy and that she did things to please him and to make him happy that she didn’t realize that she wasn’t completely happy in her relationship.
she really did believe that she loved him because he made her feel loved. but outside of courting her, they didn’t exactly have the best relationship. best was very controlling and possessive. almost any time leo was around he’d say something about them being too close or that she shouldn’t hang around a guy like him.
when it came to keeping the romance alive in their relationship and marriage, it was always bell who planned dates and anniversaries. honestly, she was the one who always bought the gifts too. gifts for best and gifts for herself “from best.” because he always told her to just buy what she wanted instead of trying to pick something out for her.
bell was so used to doing everything for everyone else to make sure that they were happy but she hardly ever thought of herself. it wasn't until after the divorce and reuniting with leo that she realized that she needed to prioritize herself and her happiness and learn how to be content with herself without relying on anyone else.

A Re-Imagining of The Emperor’s Romance Scene
This is a work in progress and an excerpt of a longer piece I’m working on that I wanted to share during Emperor Week, but was too busy to get around to it. The longer piece is a re-imagining of the Baldur’s Gate 3 narrative, and this scene is a re-imagining of the romance scene with the Emperor. Sarai is the “Tav” character, and to give a little background on her: she knows little of her birth family, but she was born with some innate divination magic that she has somewhat learned to wield. She also possesses a bound weapon - a glaive - that she was told once belonged to her mother. She’s been developing her tadpole powers under the Emperor’s guidance, and in my head cannon, that development is causing faint changes to her appearance even before the astral tadpole. This scene takes place in the astral prism between Sarai and the Emperor.
NSFW, however, there’s nothing particularly graphic and there are no trigger warnings I can think of that I need to add. Approximately 1,800 words.
“There’s more to this prism than what you can feel. Than you can sense.” Sarai meets your gaze. Though subtle, the undeniable pulse of psionic energy leaves dark traces beneath her ashy skin, awakened from your connection. “There are memories here, an entire history. I felt it the moment I entered this prism for the first time. It’s taken me some time to unweave the strands of its essence from the psionic energy of this place, from the consciousness of the gith, but it’s unmistakable now. I can show it to you, if you like?”
You regard her curiously. The unusualness of her mind, that awareness you felt when you first connected has gnawed at you since. You have yearned to explore it, to know its secrets, but such excavating would endanger her. As resilient as a mind can be, it can also be remarkably fragile. Burrowing deep into its recesses could harm her, could break her. While such hungry digging would satiate your own illithid desires, the cost is too great. You know this from her. From Belynne.
“Open your mind to me.” There’s an intensity to her dark eyes, and you pause for a moment as you consider her offer. She has spent many nights in the prism with you learning, through your guidance, to focus the power the tadpole gives her. You have felt its power grow, but even then the depths of her mind remained walled off from you. Not all minds are easily accessed, but what superficial connection you have made thus far has only deepened your hunger for more. You carefully relax the edges of your mind, and your body follows in response. You notice a deep intake of breath from Sarai as she feels the edges of your mind connect with hers, and she focuses on a deep undercurrent of energy. Waves of it wash across her skin and yours, gentle at first, chilly, then growing in force. You sense a presence distinct from Sarai’s and distinct from the gith whose consciousness is subjugated by yours. There’s a power seeping into the very rock beneath your feet, and you see flashes of fertile land, mist from a waterfall floating above the rocky shore of a river, and an endless night sky, serene and uniform.
She is becoming a conduit.
A great power floods your essence and you feel the weight of a crown upon your head. This is your realm. Your very thoughts, your will touch and penetrate the landscape drawing on an ancient arcana, grounded and heavy. Your hands are no longer your own, but pale, spindly, and adorned with jewels. You hold in your hand a glowing disk carved with ancient runes you do not recognize, but its magic courses through you as you seek to bend it to your will. You seek to bend it in desperation, but it’s too late. You feel the rock beneath you fracture and the sky flash and split, blinding you with the white hot intensity of a sun. For a fraction of an instant your body feels the coming heat, then an endless darkness.
You’re thrown back into your own body, Sarai’s mind now severed from yours. The dark pulses beneath her skin recede as the waves of energy once washing over your skin evaporate leaving only the lingering memory of their touch. You feel Sarai’s hand on your shoulder as if to steady you.
“I’m fine,” you tell her.
That same intensity has not left her gaze. “I know.” There’s a hint of amusement in her voice. “I wasn’t sure what to expect, so I was just…” she pauses for a moment, “checking on you.” She removes her hand from your shoulder and turns to the expanse. “It’s incredible isn’t it? This place has lost none of its beauty even in its destruction.” Her tone becomes wistful and distant. “Memories fade with time, whether they are the memories in our own minds or the memories of a place. It takes powerful magic, or a powerful event, for such memories to linger at all.”
A moment of silence passes, broken only by the distant crackling of the red-yellow glow in the starry sky beyond. You look to the woman by your side, a formidable fighter, your sword, your ally in this fight for the fate of Fea’run, for your fate. She has opened her mind to yours, a mind you have grown most fond of, her company something you had not thought possible. You turn your body towards her as she gives you a curious look, turning to meet you. As formidable as she is, stronger and taller than most women, you still tower over her, but she shows not a hint of fear. You haven’t decided if she is foolish, or if she knows something you don’t. Perhaps it is something else entirely? This moment may not come again.
“The moment we met, and every moment since, I knew your mind was truly something special. I didn’t know what I expected when this mission began, but one thing I did not expect,” you notice Sarai’s head cock every so subtly to the side, “was how much I would enjoy your company. I have felt your potential, helped you harness it, and you have shown me the uniqueness of your gifts.” You sense Sarai straighten, not with fear or guardedness, but with curiosity. You turn your wrist and summon a small tadpole into your palm. “We are up against a great evil, but together we can face it, destroy it forever. Your magnificent gifts could be greater still for the fight that is to come for all of us. If you let me, I can evolve you.”
She regards the tadpole with hesitation, keeping her hands to her side. “What is it?”
“It’s a mind flayer tadpole crystallized from millennia in the astral plane, absorbing its energy, its power. It wants to evolve, but it cannot do so alone. It must commune with another. I have had the pleasure of studying your mind, of seeing what you can do, what you’re capable of. I believe I can help you fulfill your latent illithid potential if you let me.”
“How so,” she was quick to ask.
“Before the outward transformation of ceremorphosis, your body begins to connect. Your mind penetrates every part of you. I remember this feeling from my own evolution. I have been nurturing this tadpole, studying it to make it safe. I believe I can unleash your potential without turning you. There will be some physical alterations, but only partial. As we’ve explored your potential, I can see the power you harness pulsing under your skin. You’ve seen it, too. This will make that more potent, but I will not let you transform. Only the tadpole in your head can do that, and I will not allow that to happen.”
***
You feel a faint caress at the edges of your mind as you meet the Emperor’s eyes. It’s warm and excited, like the feeling of anticipation.
“Open your mind,” his voice deep and soothing. “You already know how.”
The tadpole yearns and aches for your connection. It’s starved and lonely. There was a time not long ago when you would have violently rejected such an offer and squashed whatever gift this was beneath your foot, but you find yourself meeting the rush of the Emperor’s anticipation with your own, closing your eyes and letting down your defenses. You feel a cold surge of energy run through your limbs, its intensity bordering on the edge of pain, connecting every joint, every muscle and organ with your thoughts, your consciousness. You flex and release your fingers. They’re tight as raw energy courses through them, but then the feeling settles leaving your body awakened, your skin pimpled, this change, dark and branching, is now written across your flesh like ink on parchment. The vicarious power you feel when you connect your mind with the Emperor’s is now yours.
“You are exquisite.” You feel a rush of warmth with the Emperor’s words. His warmth. “You know,” he pauses momentarily as though to consider his next words. “I have felt for some time that you and I have been dancing our way towards something deeper. We are more alike now than we have ever been. If you want, we could… further deepen our relationship.”
You feel your own warmth rise to meet his. “Are you trying to seduce me?” You notice his breath quicken with your words.
“Would you like that?”
You nod as a smile curls on to your lips, and you warm with another rush of feeling, the Emperor’s feeling, palpable and hotter this time, tingling down into your loins, and rising to a gentle fullness in the center of your chest. With a graceful flourish of the Emperor’s wrist your body becomes weightless, rising to meet his gaze. Within inches of his face your breath merges and you notice the familiar scent of vanilla now with a mellow hint of garlic. You touch the cold chitin of his armor with your fingertips, searching for a seam.
“Remove this. I want to see you.” Much like the magic of your weapon when you beckon it to your grasp, the carapace dissolves before you, allowing your fingertips to caress his chest. As you brush your fingers across his skin you feel a gentle caress cross yours. You take a deep breath to open your mind to the feeling, and your skin pimples under the sensation. The Emperor’s lower tentacles curl and rise towards your face stroking your cheek and the other cradling the back of your head. You take one in hand to meet your lips and mouth, evoking from him a deep guttural moan. You pause and notice his face relax, the severity of his brow softening under your touch. You bring his tentacle once again to your mouth. His fingers tense and release as he lets out another guttural moan, his breath quickening even more, your heart racing in response. You know he feels your desire, your heat, your own aching, and you feel your clothing loosen and open as its ties unravel at the Emperor’s thoughts, and the fabric used to hold your breasts in place during battle unwraps and falls away. The Emperor’s hands seize your hips as his tentacles wrap around your waist, your back, and between your thighs. You open your mind and his pleasure washes over you, and yours over him, and within both of you all at once. Every wave of feeling runs deeper. Every barrier to the other’s mind willingly flexes, then gives. Every point of flesh held to flesh, and limb intertwined with limb knows the absence of physical barrier. For these moments, there is nothing else, not even the space between one another. You are unbound and lost.

Legends and myths about trees
Trees in Buddhism (3)
Sal tree (Shorea robusta) – the Nirvana
In Buddhism, there is an important day called 'Sanbutsuki (3 anniversaries of the Buddha)', which commemorates three major milestones in the Buddha's life.
These are Buddhist rituals of the Nativity on 8 April, when Buddha was born, the Jodo-e (becoming a Buddha) on 8 December, when he attained enlightenment, and the Nirvana on 15 February, when he passed away.
The Buddha's death is believed to have occurred on 15 February of the lunisolar calendar in China and Japan, and in many places it is now held on 15 March.
According to Buddhist tradition, the Buddha was lying between a pair of sal trees when he died:
Then the Blessed One with a large community of monks went to the far shore of the Hiraññavati River and headed for Upavattana, the Mallans' sal-grove near Kusinara. On arrival, he said to Ananda (Ref1), the chosen disciple, "Ananda, please prepare a bed for me between the twin sal-trees, with its head to the north. I am tired, and will lie down. (DN16; Nirvana Sutra)"
When the Buddha died in Kusinara, there were 4 or 8 sal trees on the 4 corners of his bed. They were said to have bloomed at the same time, then quickly withered and turned white, just like a flock of cranes.
In Buddhism, the brief flowering of the sal tree is used as a symbol of impermanence and the rapid passing of glory. The sal tree is also said to have been the tree under which Kondana and Vessabhu, respectively the fifth and twenty fourth Buddhas preceding Gautama Buddha, attained enlightenment.
The sal tree (shorea robusta, sāla, shala, sakhua, or sarai), is a species of tree in the family Dipterocarpaceae. The tree is native to India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Tibet and across the Himalayan regions.
The sal tree is mythologically classified as a 'tree of life', symbolising resurrection, rebirth and rejuvenation, but in Buddhism it is one of the three most sacred trees, symbolising parinirvana, as the Buddha died under two sal trees in a row.
The three most sacred Buddhist trees are:
Ashoka tree: the tree where the Buddha was born (Ref).
Bodhi tree: the tree where the Buddha attained enlightenment
Sal tree: the tree where the Buddha died.

Let’s break this baby down symbolically
Originally this post was longer but my draft didn’t save so I’m doing a quick notes version; if you want more thoughts or have a clarification question please feel free to drop them in my inbox, but hopefully everything will still carry across
Light and dark motif with Callum unintentionally / unknowingly getting close to the darkness, with Ezran and Rayla more in the light. The surface world does not seem to be particularly stormy, more so bright and happy, which is a departure from the previous promo art(s) really highlighting the storm, and how often storms in TDP foretell transformation and disaster (1x01, 2x04, 2x05, 2x07, 2x08, 3x01 when Ez comes home, 4x01, 4x04 before Aaravos possesses Callum at dawn, etc).
The light-dark duality mirrors Callum’s worries of “What if I’m on a path of darkness” due to its associations with Aaravos: “In darkness, gaze upon a Fallen Star” and “already tainted with darkness, ad destined to play right into my hands.”
Darkness = dark magic; octopus tentacles have associations with dark magic (Claudia) specifically being used to drag people down (the boys) or catch them (Viren) in terms of control; dark magic / octopus tentacles = control. Control is attached to Aaravos
This is doubly true with associations of water and destiny (“Life is like a river - don’t try to control where the river goes”). If you’re interested in more thoughts on that, check out this meta
Callum perhaps being lured in with curiosity or magical impulse, only to realize he’s in way over his head / being dragged down by something he can’t escape (tentacles having similarities to puppet strings) and/or mirroring his dark magic dreams from 2x08
Ezran being closer makes sense, as he is emotionally closer and currently more reliable to Callum than Rayla has been due to their separation.
It’s also a nice parallel to Ezran saving Zym (another brother / soulmate) under the ice as well as Rayla and Callum then working to save him, as well, with now Rayla and Ezran working together to save Callum, especially since Ezran almost drowned and Rayla has a specific fear of drowning/water.
In the S1 novelization, Ezran states that his mother’s spirit helped guide him through the darkness to find the glowing (light) egg of the Dragon Prince. Given that Sarai also helped guide Callum towards the Sky arcanum, Ezran possibly carrying / embodying his mother’s spirit while saving his brother would be really beautiful.
As stated, Rayla being further away makes sense, but it does align her further with the light, and I do think her reaching for Callum (as opposed to a more generic swim pose) is purposeful due to Rayllum (and the show’s) consistent reaching motif.
Rayla’s fear of water isn’t literally about the water (after all, she saved Bait 1.5 days in when she and the glow toad had an immense mutual dislike of each other) but what it represents: shame, self-reflection, fear, guilt, trauma. Rayla left in TTM because she didn’t know how to love Callum and be scared to lose him at the same time in a healthier manner, leading her to majorly hurt both of them. Her swimming through the water could symbolize 1) helping to save Callum (per other foreshadowing as well) in addition to 2) her beginning to learn how to deal with that fear in a healthier way that also lets her stay and be/do what she wants to do.
And as always, the foreshadowing that Aaravos’ specific prison (darkness, dark magic, tentacles, ocean, etc) is underwater and it will be found / we’ll get some answers about the cube in S5:

PART IV.
Shadows of Revelation
Ren heads home after the mission with Max, not in the mood for anything. She had tried to push the memories of that fateful day four years ago out of her mind. She had attempted not to recall anything about the anniversary, but at the end of the day, when the work is done, she can't help but look back and remember the one who had been the love of her life, taken away from her because of her weakness. Ren's holo continues to ring after half an hour without answering; it's Sebastian, "Father." He took Ren in when she needed it the most. Always fond of having a daughter, despite being a priest on the surface, he was a true fixer, one of the best in Night City. When he saw Ren desolate in the orphanage, he decided to adopt her as his prodigal daughter, teaching her everything he knew, making her someone in this city, and protecting her more than anyone in Night City or Heywood.
"Tell me, Padre, I'm on my way home from a job," Ren replied, not in the mood to talk but afraid that if she didn't answer, Sebastian would come looking for her with concern. Tonight was meant for loneliness.
"Mija, I know it's a tough day, but answer your father's calls; he's worried. I know today is the day, let me remind you he was like a son to me too," he replied, raising his voice a bit. "I'm sorry, mija…" Sebastian sighed, knowing deep down that he couldn't protect the life of the one who was also like his son four years ago. "Four years have passed, and I still can't believe he's not here with us… I miss him, Saray, come home to see your family from time to time. You know every year we hold the mass for Hayden."
"I'm sorry, Padre, but I can't. I don't want people to see me and feel pity. Hayden wouldn't have wanted it that way. Every day, I fight to promise him that I won't go back to my old life if he's not here, that I'll work and continue my life… I'm sorry, but I have to hang up. I know you cared for him like a son, just like you do for me, but I need to grieve in my own way. Goodbye, Padre." Ren hung up without receiving a response from the other side of the holo.
Hayden had also been taken in by Sebastian, a bit older than Ren. Their paths separated as they took Hayden to another part of the city, to Japantown to work with Wakako Okada, another well-known fixer in Night City. As both became teenagers, their lives crossed again.
After years apart, Hayden returned to Heywood as a different man. Life in Japantown had changed him; he had experienced the harsh reality of the city, and his youthful ideals had evolved into a more cautious pragmatism. Ren, on the other hand, remained the fighter, the bold and determined bounty hunter he remembered from childhood. Initially, they clashed due to their opposing perspectives, engaging in heated discussions about their different visions for the city.
However, as they spent more time together, they began to see the deeper layers of each other's personalities. Hayden admired Ren's courage, her desire for justice in such a ruthless world. Ren, in turn, discovered in Hayden a man with emotional scars but with a unique understanding of the complexities of Night City.Despite their differences, they recognized each other's strength and the need to come together in a world where loyalty was scarce. And they fell in love, and they couldn't stop loving each other, for Ren, his first love, and for Hayden the love of her life, and he couldn't stop there, he wanted to make the bond of love sacred.
So the day came, in the heart of Heywood, amidst the urban jungle of Night City, Ren and Hayden decided to forge a new chapter in their lives. The setting sun painted the sky in warm hues, casting a gentle glow on the small, intimate gathering. Sebastian, acting as both father and officiant, stood at a makeshift altar adorned with local flowers and soft city lights. The ambient sounds of the city, normally harsh and chaotic, seemed to hush in respect for the sacred moment.
After the vows were spoken and the rings exchanged, Sebastian, with a knowing smile, declared them partners for life. As the night unfolded, Ren and Hayden, surrounded by their closest allies, danced under the starlight peeking through the gaps in the skyscrapers. It was a celebration that transcended the harsh reality of Night City, a moment of respite and joy for two souls intertwined against the odds. But that was going to change forever.
The 13th of November Night City, perpetually alive with the hum of neon lights and distant traffic, bore witness to yet another event that would leave an indelible mark on its ever-evolving history.
The air was heavy with anticipation, carrying the scent of urban decay and distant echoes of music from a nearby club. In a quiet alley of Heywood, tucked away from the glaring lights, Hayden, now a passionate advocate for change in Night City, was fervently discussing plans for community improvement with a group of like-minded individuals. Ren, stood by Hayden's side. The atmosphere was charged with the energy of hope—hope for a better city, hope for change. Hayden's charismatic words resonated with the gathered crowd, sparking a sense of purpose that transcended the daily struggles of Night City's inhabitants.
As the conversation reached a peak, a patrol car, its windows tinted with corruption, rolled into the alley. A lone officer, his uniform a stark contrast to the group's eclectic attire, stepped out. The atmosphere shifted—hope turned to tension, optimism to apprehension. The officer, a symbol of the oppressive system that Hayden had tirelessly fought against, approached with an air of authority. Words were exchanged, heated but not hostile. However, in the dimly lit alley, shadows concealed the officer's true intentions.
In a sudden, heart-wrenching twist of fate, the officer's hand moved to his sidearm. The gunshot echoed through the narrow space, and the once hopeful gathering descended into chaos. Hayden, struck by a bullet, fell to the ground. The vibrant vision of a better Night City shattered in an instant.
Ren, stunned and grief-stricken, knelt by Hayden's side. The officer, devoid of remorse, retreated into the night. The alley, once filled with dreams of change, now bore witness to a tragedy that would haunt Ren for years to come. As the distant sounds of Night City continued, indifferent to the pain within its streets, Ren cradled Hayden's lifeless form, grappling with the harsh reality that even in the pursuit of justice and progress, the city could still claim its victims.
And Ren couldn't shake the feeling of... guilt.
Author's note: in this chapter we don't see River, but I can promise that next chapter is going to be all over River and more, but I really wanted to write this chapter for you to see more in deep the story of Ren and to understand her point of view in the scene, and to understand references for future chapters. As always I hope you guys like it, and thank you so much for everyone that reads it, you're amazing. Y'all make me feel special.

* u mae na is a kind of suffix used in some old songs.
This is the first one.
This is the third one.
Originally I knew only 2 versions of this song, but since I found 4 when I searched, I put all 4 here.
The version of this song that mentions Khun Thong actually has political implications. First, is that Khun Thong died fighting for our country and we should honor his action; and then, afterward, Khun Thong kind of became a symbol of the act of a revolutionary, as that name got used in literature about the uprising on October 14th, 1973, and the massacre on October 6th, 1976.

จิงโจ้ Chingcho
*Chingcho have many meaning such as
Pond Skaters
a type of crib mobile nursery décor.
Female soldiers in the reign of King Rama V
kangaroo
mythical creatures
a type of bird.
I grew up thinking the word Chingcho here meant the bird, but after doing some searching I found a more convincing explanation, which is that the word Chingcho in this song did not refer to anything above but the swaying movement that all things above have in common, and this song is about Chinese people who sailed to Thailand to trade and do the swaying movement in order to sail the ship.

This one is a part of a type of poem used for sing while paddling a boat so it isn't excetly a lullaby but some people do used as one including my family. The content of this poem is to admire the beauty of the parade of royal ships. I decided that translating it would be too difficult for me. So I will just leave it at that.

Bell met her now-ex-husband, Best when she was in college. She wasn’t really looking to date and wanted to focus on her studies. She’s always been like that since she was young since it was always harder for her to make friends or even date because she was much younger than the rest of her peers.
When she’d met Best, he’d asked her out but she rejected him at first, wanting to put her studies before a relationship. However, he was persistent. And despite turning him down, he did everything possible to court her and it was the first time she’d ever experienced anything like this, or for anyone to put so much effort into wanting to be with her, and she was easily swayed.
It only took a month of his efforts until she gave in and they dated for a year before they got married. Best was the one who actually proposed to her, and she didn’t even give it a second thought and said yes. They were still in their honeymoon phase of their relationship at the time, and Bell really thought they’d last forever.
A family was something they both wanted, and it was something they talked about early on in their marriage, so they spent a few years trying to conceive. However, no matter how hard they tried, it just didn’t work. So they decided to go to a specialist only to find out that Bell was infertile. It shattered her entire world knowing that she couldn’t have kids and that she couldn’t give Best a family.
This caused a huge strain on their relationship and marriage. Bell took the news really hard and it caused her to be depressed and she was always in a bad mood or being distant from Best, and even if they were around each other they fought over the smallest things or often just stayed separate sometimes because it was easier than fighting all the time.
They stayed together for two years after this, trying to keep their marriage together even though it was obvious it was in shambles. However, Best was the one who filed for a divorce. He didn’t want to be with her anymore, the main reason being they couldn’t have a family together which was what they both wanted.
She was tired of trying to hard, so when Best gave her the divorce papers, despite still loving him, she signed it. She knew there was no point in staying married when she could no longer give him what he wanted. Their marriage was doomed the moment they found out she couldn’t have children.
Finding out she was infertile and dealing with divorcing her husband was really hard for Bell to deal with. Especially since Leo, her best friend wasn’t around. She felt so alone dealing with it. She even took time off from work to try and deal with what she was going through. Eventually, she came to terms with the fact that teaching at a younger age level wasn’t something she could do any longer. It was just too difficult for her to be around younger aged children when she knew she couldn’t have children of her own.

It laughed, the earth shattering and breaking apart. Its eyes were twin pricks of fire in a sea of smoke and ash.
"I remember. I remember. They worshiped me, they made me their God. I gave them a world, I made them a home!"
It stepped back the heavens opening, ice and water raining down on them.
"I let them live in me! I let them thrive in me! And when their wars couldn't end. When they didn't know how to do anything but fight do you know what they did to me?"
They stepped back toward them, cupping their cheek. A moment of calm in a sea of chaos.
"They tore me apart, using my rivers and trees for their weapons. They stripped me of everything, and then ripped me apart. They stuffed me into these forms and forced me to fight for them!"
//IT!! FOR SARAI?! Not sure how canon this is//
She had snuck from the safety of the chambers she had shared with her brother, outside of the palace that was the seat of Cassandra. Elier had still been asleep when she had left, sword on her hips, as she ventured out into the forest.
Following the call of someone familiar, the call of one she deemed as a friend - though she knew there was much more to them. That they were a being who deserved respect, who had much she could learn from if she only listened.
As young and naive as she was, Sarai refused to flinch as the earth shattered and broke. She would not run when those terrifying eyes looked to her, or when her clothes became soaked as the heavens opened up above her.
Her gaze had been towards the sky when she felt their touch cupping her cheek, her attention drawn to the calm that came. Her ebony hair clung to her skin. The truth of their past was clear to her...
"They stole from you for their greed, you provided them with everything they could want and they repaid that by betraying you," she finally responded. "You should be free, you shouldn't be forced to do anything."

sarai is at the campfire wearing a green blue wool shawl ; she and sansa having escaped from skathis. she is feeling a bit better ( realising the endless moths forming from her mouth was something beautiful ; like fireflies illuminating in this very moment of her breathing in the universe ).
she hears sansa say, ‘ I hope this year, today, will be good for you. it’s nice to see you around. ‘
sarai feeling quite happy sansa was here with her, despite the coffee shop patrons saying she was a monster ; abomination to the world.
‘ merci, ‘ she says, smiling quite, her brown hair rather wavy and touching her collarbone. wearing a white neckerchief around her head and green hood like a priest’s habit, and gathering flowers on her weaved basket. where a stream called river uzumark was bubbling through in ca’naan ( smelling spicy and floral tea ) where she and lazlo strange went to. each river drop of water shining a beautiful rainbow in the moonlight. on mobile, when typing in search on the water of the river, it shows relatable things to what she types ( not just specific tag ) and picture tag is different to how it is as usual with sometimes saying relatable things more on top or is just like that on mobile search.
random paging on manuscripts in the world library in general on mobile, when she wanders as a moth to dreamwalk at the calm evening night, reflects current thought process or something to spark conversation for her own chocolate 🍫 feeling of sirithar for one’s amarin ; the language of weep meaning soul and spirit ( as noted in the devout book of stories lazlo had, ‘miracles for breakfast’ ),
as she looks down at her book she was studying at her library desk, reminiscing, her skin now turned to its usual brown ; blue when conducting magic. yet everything is aligned and worked out as best she could in a difficult situation of mesarthium heaviness to how she left it in reality for her own life as reflected with her simple specific catch-all tagging/contents system to find her specific manuscripts to converse with other alchemists ( as she is the only one who knows and understands her moths to intimately interact with another at her own style and time and pace of in the moment simple talking on the water about nature and creativity.
she sees another alchemist briefly sit next to her, sansa, at the library desk, saying it was good she was here ). where she can find her moths : username, rp partner | username, character name ic. , and precise ‘username’ tag for when going on specific long character name tags.
she notes other alchemists ( minya, feral, ruby, sparrow ) tag with at least username and have event tags too on their own separate library desk of studious anonymity that doesn’t affect/endanger her life in the slightest, other than if she chooses to talk about something on her library desk.
she hears athelstan say there was a story with her namesake and abraham in the bible. as she passes by him and westley.
‘ what is it about? ‘ she asks.
he says her story with abraham commenced during and after noah’s ark. sarai and him had journeyed to ca’naan…

thinking about these lines in particular bc good god, man
Karim’s sure fire focus on the end, so much like Viren, where he only sees his people restored through his own glorious hand because the end is all that matters, even as a child to adulthood:
Karim could see that line, unprotected and waiting for him. They only needed to reach it. [...] He had memorized the runes. The spell, its words, its motions. He had visualized it countless times: the orb restored by his hand in a display of magic so brilliant it would light the city’s poisoned sky like a golden sunrise.
The persistent idea of loss and how he rails against it (which, no wonder the Soul Candle ceremony is so important, when he lost a friend recently too alongside his eldest sister)
Stars. Just stars, obviously (+ bonus “game motif” of playing a game as children, and then it’s very much not to boot / “yes, mages were his prey”)
WHAM. Someone slammed into Karim’s side. He went down hard. But we’re going to win, he thought, blinking stars out of the noon sun. Someone tore the banner from his grasp. We have to win.
We have to win, Karim told himself. The writhing, tainted darkness of Lux Aurea’s night sky spread infinitely above him, the stars all swallowed up inside it.
They did not stop until they reached a dry riverbed far, far past the last of Lux Aurea’s golden gates. They could see the stars again, the violet tinge of twilight behind them. It would be dawn soon.
Never mind that nothing good ever happens at dawn in this show (Sarai and the queens of duren’s deaths, Callum’s possession, etc) + bonus river/water motif (although it’s dry).
Tainted by darkness, corruption, continually (“the writhing, tainted darkness of Lux Aurea”)
At dusk, every shadowed corner of Lux Aurea erupted with—he struggled to find words for them—monsters. Some of them he could almost call familiar, like horses and banthers, but they were changed. Like the sun orb itself, the abominations rippled with corruption, with tainted magic so vile that light itself seemed to bend to avoid its touch.
After darkness, light. [...] He hardly heard her. I can save him, Karim thought. I can save all of us. Nothing is lost! Karim’s mind raced and found a light to cling to: the spell—the cleansing spell!
Which also fits with his emphasis on light (and tradition) in his original short story from Vol. 1, “The Queen’s Soul”:
Karim’s chest tightened. “It is never too late. We must honor our traditions, now and always! They are the light that will guide our way out of this darkness.”
Janai spoke with a brutal honesty that cut him like a blade. “Her soul – it is lost.”
“No. It merely waits, Sister. It waits for us,” Karim urged. “We must guide her back to the Sun.”
The constant emphasis and comparisons to sickness and infection, also tying in lines from the Book One novelization in terms of how the Moonshadow elves respond to Rayla:
“Your wound,” announced Tijana, staggering away from Osato. “That’s— that must be how it spreads. Like an infection!” [...] The corruption wriggled like worms under his skin, snaking further with every beat of his heart, down towards his hand and up to his shoulder. “Cut it off,” he shouted. “Cut off my arm, before it spreads!”
"Runaan, you know that weakness is an infection," the third elf said so angrily he was spitting. "You must cut it out!" (book one novelization)
He could still see it: the top of the Sunforge Tower, upside-down from where he lay, shrouded in inky corruption. It looked ill, its sickness weeping red and crowning the spire in a haze of blood. [...] All around them, he could hear the sound of battle down every alleyway, around every corner, the worst of the bloodshed mercifully shrouded by the night’s darkness. How many had they already lost? Karim felt sick, desperate, weak. [...] Karim took a last look back at the ailing heart of Lux Aurea atop the Sunforge Tower.
Which, continual heart motif even over storms, thank you kindly, as well as the red equalling sickness, and Karim literally putting on the red glove of his sick, dead friend by the end of the story.
Karim waited until he could no longer hear the sound of her boots before he let himself weep. He wept for Osato as he buried him, marking his grave with a circle of stones. He wept for his city, his people, and the darkness struck deep into their hearts.
As well as Karim’s parallels to Claudia - the younger sibling, unable to accept change, unable to accept that they cannot save everyone they love with their magic, likewise poisoned with sickness and corruption and losing/finding (“Stay safe, and stay in the light. Don’t follow me, and don’t look for me. I don’t think you’ll find me, anyway.” Dear Callum)
The corrupted elves drew closer. Osato stepped towards them, a desperate captain reaching for his soldiers, but Tijana seized Osato by the arm. “Don’t. They are lost. But we’re still alive.”
“Lost? They are our kin! They are not dead!” Karim protested. “They might still be saved! All of us can still be saved! We must—”
“I will banish that darkness,” Karim swore to Osato’s grave. “I swear it, Osato. Lux Aurea will not die with you. We will be whole again. By the Sun, we will be whole.”
And last but not least because TDP hates me, specifically
Karim stepped towards them, peering closely, and his eyes fell upon Osato’s wound. The moon, he realized, had played a cruel trick. Osato’s blood was not simply dark in the moonlight… It was black.
as well as
“Do not speak as if you mourn him!” Karim snapped, overcome. “You killed him!”
Tijana spoke softly, almost at a whisper. “He was my friend.”
Anyway this short story was extremely fucked and i am both scared and excited to see the literal ramifications it has for both the Sunfire elves and Janai/Amaya and Karim, as well as the possible broader implications for S5, dark magic, Aaravos, and possession plot line as a whole
