He humbles snotlout, he's funny, entertaining, genuinely cares for his sister, has empathy and regret about not looking for their father sooner, bro is the sweetest to his dragon, most silliest relationship with hiccup funny siblings, and overall just an amazing character.

I love him.

Cutie patootie but he's a great fighter and has the biggest muscles.

And istg don't no one fucking tell me im UwU soft boy personifying him because I don't want to hear it. sure he's silly but he's also pretty much insane and one of the best fighters in rtte imo.

Okay… I have something to say.

Fans of Tuffnut were shocked that in the third part he left his sister in a burning Grimmel shelter. They say that this scene is disgusting because it is not at all in the nature of a Ruffnut.

 I agree that the act is just a nightmare. But the fact is that…

  It's in his nature.

  I see hundreds of arguments from the rtte series being born in your heads, which it is impossible to argue with, but please let me explain everything. 

We all watched the same show, and we know that almost always the Tuffnut behaved, if not as an exemplary, then as an unambiguously loving older brother: he saved the Ruffnut's life and defended her honor, was ready to do anything for her. Naturally, when you think about all the cool moments between the twins, you can't help but start to resent how much the last movie didn't match that. But in fact, it wasn't the third part that didn't correspond to the show, and the series didn't correspond to the third part. 

Believe me, I also don't like all these conversations in the style of "rtte is not canon". I LOVE rtte, I LOVE the way the Tuffnut, Ruffnut and other racers were portrayed in this series. But we have to take into account the fact that Dean Deblois did not rely on the show when he created the third part. No matter how wonderful rtte was, not all HTTYD fans watched it, so there can be no question of any references to it (except the most veiled ones). 

Yes, the behavior of the Tuffnut in the third part did not correspond to the show, but it corresponded to the two previous films – the very basis of his personality: 

In the second part, Tuffnut never tried to save Ruffnut: neither when Eret shot her with a net, nor when Ruffnut accidentally slipped off the dragon (in the end, she was saved by Snotlout and Fishlegs). In the first part, the Tuffnut ran through it at all to escape from the Zippleback. 

And yet, this does not mean that Tuffnut is bad. It's just that we have to swallow this bitter pill that he has his flaws. Along with Hiccup's stubbornness, Astrid's arrogance and Snotlout's sycophancy.

canon tidbits i think people who've only seen the httyd movies should know that are confirmed in the shows:

tuffnut and snotlout are canonically talented seamsters

we see the prototype versions of hiccup's flaming sword and the flightsuit in race to the edge

hiccstrid's first kiss is in rtte and its perfect

VIGGO GRIMBORN aka the best httyd villain and the "hiccup's evil mirror" concept actually done right

there are multiple societies dedicated to protecting dragons other than berk

snotlout's assholish disposition is a consequence of his deeply held insecurities that if he can't be the best he's the worst, which is encouraged by his father

the other riders (namely snoutlout) have used the ship name hiccstrid to refer to hiccup and astrid

hiccup redeems so many villains in the shows (alvin, dagur, viggo - one of them later performing a heroic sacrifice to save him) that it's completely unsurprising he thought he could change drago's mind

hiccup punched snotlout in the face and knocked him out cold

the shows let the twins be smarter, snotlout be more thoughtful, and astrid more deranged

snotlout's middle name is gary

Tried to redesign the riders to be a little more believable? … as in convincing but not historically accurate? Tried taking the ac:Valhalla approach, I think they look kinda cool (pls ignore hiccup he was my test & I can’t get him to look any better but this is more abt design than polish I guess)

The helmets were kind of a nightmare and irl Viking’s defo wouldn’t wear any of those designs but I wanted it to still feel like their helmets. Snotlout esp needed his horns they’re too cute I’m sorry.

Hiccstrid is crazy because it's Hiccup "would kill for her" Haddock and Astrid "would die for him" Hofferson, not the other way round.

Yeah in any other case it's Hiccup 'would die for a cause/person' and Astrid 'would kill for cause/person' but when it comes to each other? Hiccup has canonically been ready to kill for Astrid, as in blast-a-man-to-bits with Toothless and let a nearly extinct dragon be slaughtered. And whenever Hiccup is in danger and Astrid is there she's the one who pushes him out of the way, endangering herself. Like with the Death Song, the Light Fury, girl was ready to sacrifice herself for the young chief.

I just think it's cool how much these two love each other they're willing to go farther than they ever would in any other occasion.
