I love wilderness and National park based horror, but man it’s made me a jumpy hiker lol I live in an area now where you should carry bear spray if you’re really getting up into the mountains, plus there’s smaller predators as well as larger hooved animals that could pose a threat coming down the mountain. I get lured off trail by bird flocks and shiny rocks, too…….so I have to be extra careful. Anyways, here’s a giant blue crystalline rock I found literally in the wall of the trail that photographed insanely well!!
Can anyone help me identify it?? I can DM location to anyone who’s more experienced at rockhounding. It was way too big to excavate, I wish I had a chisel on me to collect a sample but even the thought of that hurts me because it was just so gorgeous

So question to all my fellow Reddit homies, or anyone who might know where I can get similar niche knowledge— I need help identifying some rocks and minerals. I don’t currently have enough tools to make an ID on my own and thought “oh I’ll just find a subreddit for it” but I’m not gonna be using Reddit unless they fix their bullshit so that’s out.
I am able to get tentative hardness of the samples and I can give the area/topology of the area they are from, plus a few other pieces of info that don’t require special tools, and photos. Anyone know where I can post this information and the pictures to find an ID?

these pictures arent great but do any Rock Enthusiasts / geologists know what some of these are? theyre all from new zealand, the left hand ones i found at some random lake and they all glitter like theres glass or sand or smth in them, like half the rocks at the lake did that, and the right hand ones are from gemstone beach on the southern coast, one looks like it has fossilised grass or something?? and the kinda pointy one has a shark skin pattern. and my fave is the bottom kinda jade/pounamu looking one?
i can post better pics/videos if needed! i have a big rock collection now hehe

Went rockhounding for the first time ever with my niece and nephew. Nothing fancy, but we went to the river with their other aunt and picked rocks out of the water. The big haul is mine. Three rocks is my nephews. Four rocks is my nieces. So grateful for them, they’re such a blessing in my life. So much fun! If anyone can identify any of the rocks I have in the first photo, it’d be much appreciated. Not ever looking for anything special, just what calls my energy 💕 my nephew and I both found a heart shaped rock. Mine’s at the bottom, and his is at the top.

I found this stone by the sea, but I'm not quite sure what it is. It has a really black color. The shine is due to the wetness of the stone. What do you think this stone is?

Help Geology Tumblr!
My aunt found this rock and we have no idea what it is.
It’s pretty smooth in parts and has holes in parts. It’s beautiful and very unique. Does anyone know what this is?

Hi people of Tumblr, I have a rock identification problem. Please please please spread this around so someone can help. I've had these two for years and don't know what they are.
The first one is white and kinda clear and grainy. It sparkles in the light and you can definitely see shadows through it. My initial guess is un-tumbled quartz or something?
The second... I have no idea. It doesn't sparkle it's mainly tan with brown stripes. It's not even shiny.
Please help. This is driving me nuts.

Rock Identification
All hip freshman nationalists hypothesize that rocks, regular old rocks, stick around a property as a means to identify their limited sense of self. Now, I am not one to gossip, however I will tell you that rocks are unlikely to comment on this situation as they are generally stone silent. I'm sure you all can relate.
Thank you randomwordgenerator.com

The last wednesday, i found the round urchin from before post, with this mold of an rare fossil in my area. I suggest it if, it is the case. 🔍👀
Absolutly rare to seen in the northern region of germany, myself not knowing these are also here to find.
I havent seen those before on the search for minor fossils and rocks on sand and land, without any local modern river or mountains in the near area.
Likely an trace fossil mold of an tiny trilobite, the form with an missing head piece probably are on the missing other side of the rock.
The rock is not flint, some other sediment stone in rusty brown color with little metallic spots held in light.
After washing, it retains moisture longer then other stones in drying.
The print mold has the size of an fingernail.
Identification where appreciate great to know of its an case for an trilobite family speciemen or some other suggestion what its belongs of pattern in rock.
It would be great to know & also for other rock fans with maybe have seen those pattern .
I know nothing about limestone or iron rock variations in my area, and seen not common these stones or fossils from them here myself.
Super lucky, and it does resembles the larger trilobite in contrast of an mold in the lining struckture.

Rock velvet lichen 》Thermutis velutina (2nd, 5th, & 6th images)

Firedot lichen 》 Squamulea subsoluta (4th, 7th, & 8th images)
