1 February 1835
On this day Fitzjames saved a man from drowning in the River Mersey, Liverpool at great personal risk. Read what the newspapers reported here: https://jamesfitzjames.com/liverpool-1835/
Fitzjames himself wrote to his Uncle Robert Coningham:

Festival Gardens. Lomo LC-A+. Fuji Velvia 100F.
Since the closure of the International Garden Festival in the 1980's the site near Otterspool Prom had become derelict. Whilst the main hall was used to house an amusement park before being demolished the rest of the area was neglected.
It was not until 2012 when the site was reopened to the public as Festival Gardens and, in the beginning it looked quite nice. When i visited earlier this month things where not so rosey. The main lake was empty and full of mud and the pavilion looked like it could do with more than a lick of paint.

Famous more as a cultural feature than as a natural one, the pace at which the River Mersey is recovering to a fishy wonderland has ecologists stunned.
Splitting The Beatles’ home city of Liverpool in two, a recent survey found 37 different species of fish, more than two-and-a-half-times as many as were found in the previous survey 20 years ago.
Five different species of sharks were also found, along with huge eels and sea scorpions. ‘Holiday species’ as one local fishermen called them, like turbot, smelt, and cod, have also been caught.

♫ Ferry Cross The Mersey ♫ (Redux)
The last time I played this one was in January 2021, after learning of the death of Gerry Marsden, so it’s time for a redux!  His other two songs that are on my revolving-door list have both already been played this year, so that just leaves this one … Gerry Marsden in the 1960s Gerry Marsden in 2009 Gerry and the Pacemakers were an English beat group prominent in the 1960s. In common with the…

The Mersey was high tonight, and fast; its waters a filthy brown, its spume grey.

They wandered through a ghost-town of empty warehouses to the river itself, Cal's gaze creeping back, and back again, to the face of the woman at his side.

Finally managed to get the drone back up whilst I was out in Liverpool today and I'm fairly happy with the shots I have of the Albert Dock and the Mersey Ferry. Let's hope for some more good weather so I can get some more flying in and get the trike out for a ride...

Britannia Inn. Holga 120. Ilford HP5.
The Britannia Inn has been owned by various chains since I have lived in Liverpool. It's position on Riverside Drive next to Otterspool Prom and overlooking the River Mersey makes it popular in the summer months. Especially when the sun is shining.
