To recognize the anniversary of Woodstock 94, which took place August 12 - 14 and the original Woodstock which took place August 15 - 18, I thought I’d post the CD cover I did for a compilation recording of the alternate Woodstock 94 show that was held at the original Bethel site, not the huge Pepsi sponsored Woodstock 94 debacle. While this recording saw very limited success with a small release, it did include some notable artists with the headliner being Richie Havens. A very small production company was set up by musician Ken Lauber under his own label, Byrdcliff Records. As I had done work for Ken before, including the logo for his record label and website, he approached me for CD artwork. The movie was such a great positive experience. What I loved was how diverse the lineup was so beautiful & diverse. I fell in love with Sly & The Family Stone, Ten Years After, The Who, Joe Cocker , Santana, Sha NA NA - all the aforementioned. I actually attended both The 94 and 99 Woodstock’s and they were not like this original as it was lightning in a bottle. We actually at #epic recorded the 99 Woodstock and hung out with my fave promoter #debrarathwell My fave festivals Amir & I produced with others was 93Lollapalooza at Milan Drag-way with a great cast of characters and 93’s Divine Playground in Bayfront Park in Miami , this album with all its flaws is just heaven! I really sing songs that move me. I'm not in show business. I'm in the communications business. That's what it's for me. I opened the Woodstock Festival even though I was supposed to be fifth. I said, 'What am I doing here? No, no, not me, not first!' I had to go on stage because there was no one else to go on first - the concert was already two-and-a-half hours late. My mother's family came from the British West Indies. And my father's family came from, well, my father's father came from the Montana/South Dakota area. They were Blackfoot Indian. Music is the major form of communication. It's the commonest vibration, the people's news broadcast, especially for kids. Many times, people have come up to me after singing some songs, and they'd say, 'Richie, do you know what you did?' And I'd say, 'What?' And they'd go, 'I wrote these songs down for you to sing, and you sang them all in a row.'
