I went back to the panels in Nightwing #127 (1996) and saw something I hadn’t noticed before:
The colourists, Richard and Tanya Horie, have Dick WEAR OUT HIS GLOVES digging out of the grave. His fingers are visible.
Also the man dug through tree roots to escape. Never let it be said Dick had it easy here.

Superman: Nice try, but I'm the exact opposite of you. I'm not action--

RIP George Perez
June 9th 1964 - May 6th 2022
Perez is the artist who designed Zatanna’s costume with kimono sleeves and the snake headdress she wore. He was a semi regular artist on JL at the time:
I always had a soft spot for the suit especially for the reasoning behind (wanting to come into her own and finding her own identity). This was a couple of years before Dick Grayson became Nightwing, another character who wanted to escape their parents shadow.
He also did many fan requested commissions and because Perez loved going the extra mile he would even sign some of them backwards:
Like many of his characters, Perez’s Zatanna was cheerful and full of life:
Also, this incredible spread, with the JLA and JSA, with Zatanna and Dr Fate opposite each other as the respective magic user of their teams:
I always love the contrast here with Zatanna looking cautious and guarded while Dr Fate looks confident and relaxed and as cheerful as a man who wears a full face covering helmet can look.
And this cover to the Justice League of Amazons one shot which he drew with Richard Horie and Tanya Horie:
This was part of an event where super villain Hector Hammond made every one forget about the League so the individual JL members went off to create their own Justice League with WW’s specifically designed to protect mother nature. Zatanna had the distinct honor of belonging to two such JL rosters formed during the event. I’ll say it again, I wouldn’t mind if DC had made JL Amazons a full blown ongoing.
Rest In Power George Perez.. You were a Titan.
