Head canon: Sindella is the one who named Zatanna.

It's a unique name that no one else has and Zatara seems too old school to be the type to give his kid special names. On the other hand, Sindella grew up in a magical land isolated from civilization, so it's possible she came up with that name and decided to name her after the person that saved her from the life in the Hidden Ones.

I can see young Zatanna being conscious of her name but then as she gets older she starts to own it.

"What's your name?"

"Zatanna Zatara."

"Oof. Sorry."

"What?"

"Your name it's just..."

"It's *my* name. Don't assume I feel bad about it. Besides, it's not one that could get lost in a crowd."

Reading comics is constantly like "Here is one of the most fascinating concepts you've ever seen in a piece of media. No we will not elaborate on it and you will never see it reach its full potential. Here is an interesting, new character. Oh now they're dead/rewritten to be less interesting/trapped in a different version of earth to be only mentioned off hand and never seen again. Here is your favorite legacy character: they're currently being written by a misogynist." And then once in a blue moon there's a comic that blows your tits clean off it's executed so well. But it's a limited run.

I like to think that sometimes Zatanna intentionally gives away the trick in some of her acts; a visible wire, an obvious mirror, a trap door opening too early, etc.

It keeps her audience on their toes as they try to figure out which of her tricks are real magic and which ones are just stage tricks.

i am the goblin who runs this here blog. otherwise known as @jondoe297

i am extremely bummed that when i do come out and adress the followers of this blog directly it will be with this news. well. here goes:

Comic Art Showcase will indefinitely stop sharing our favorite artists' works until further notice due to the deal tumblr's owner is making with A.I. companies to sell data,enabling the theft of the works of the platform's users to scrape to train their A.I.

and here is a good article about what's going on

while for the over 5 years(!!) now that i have run this page and shared the love of comic art i am so passionate about,through ups and downs,i have kept this page strictly for doing so. not presenting any topics or ideas or even showing my own personality or linking my personal blog(even though i have been flirting with the idea recently. well i guess now is as good a time as any) i feel that if nothing else i have to use this specific platform i have,as it is,to address this topic as it is intrinsic and intertwined with this page's theme or activity. and i will not have it be an open buffet for these greedy corporations to scrape for data to feed the A.I. with which they seek to replace the very artists that i love and admire! even though it may be too late as we don't really know how long they've been doing this. well the inevitable came. and if this page is not deleted it will at least not be posted on for the time being. while we figure out what to do next.

in the meantime we can and have to all do what we can to fight for artists' and creatives' rights. if nothing else by not being a part of the theft and exploitation of them an their work. please do not use any generative A.I. programs for images or text. they work by scraping from databases of artists' and creatives' works without any permission,credit or compensation.

for now we can at least 'opt out' of having our content be shared with the A.I. companies in the settings.

keep in mind this seems to be only available on the web version and not on the app for now!

and you have to do this for each blog and sideblog individually so make sure to do that!

and artists make sure to use Nightshade and Glaze to protect your artwork and images!!!!

the best combination is to use Nightshade first then Glaze on your images.

Glaze creates a protective layer on the image to prevent A.I. from copying it. while Nightshade poisons the A.I. sotfware.

I know this is kind of a minor thing but Zatanna as a biker chick in early JLD still feels so wrong.

That kind of thing is usually Black Canary's aesthetic? Or maybe Diana in scenarios where her power is gone. But Zatanna strapped in a leather jacket and riding a sportbike? It just doesn't fit.

Nevermind that Zee can teleport anywhere and can fly with her magic but in scenarios where she does use transport....

I can see her driving a Convertible or an RV (since she and her Dad likely travelled a lot) or a trailer that's been pulled by a car that's been magically driven (as seen in Bloodspell) but not a sport bike.

If it's a bike then maybe a scooter or a moped. Oh god, now I am imagining a scene set early in Zatanna's career where she and Mikey are being chased by a monster and Zee is on a Vespa while Mikey is desperately shooting a nail gun at the beast whenever it gets close.
