!!!NEW REVIEW!!!
Tumblr media
dubbed as “the working-class Fantasia”, there really is no more apt way to describe Rhapsody in Rivets. Friz Freleng was no man better suited for the job: his musical prowess transforms politely amusing gags into a feat of animated synchronicity, just as his no-nonsense, no frills directing style is perfect for the rough and tumble tone that eases any pretension. the first of many Freleng shorts to revolve around this piece, construction workers do their duty, their collaborative building meticulously timed to Franz Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody No. II”.

I have this old lilimana thoughts I always wanted to share but couldn't. I was too shy;;
There's this old Filipino courting tradition called Harana, it's about a man who'd sing underneath a girl's window/balcony at night to court them. I thought it would be cute if Lilia does it to Mana with the rest of Diasomnia as his wingman🩷
this made me so happy!! 😭 thank you for thinking of me and lilimana... it fits them perfectly!! it was really, really sweet; i couldn't help but write myself something..!
Tumblr media
lissome fingers sewed stitches into a new outfit, one that grim had implored for, as mana listened to the crepitating fire and the aforementioned beast's snores emitting behind her; the hour well past bedtime.
tap, tap, tap!
mana's concentration was ruptured as a noise resounded throughout the room, her blue eyes trailing to the window and espying a pitch-black bat bonking its precious little head against the pane.
"hm?" startled by the critter, mana dropped her needle and thread and padded over to the window; unlocking the latch and prying the glass apart. "lilia-san?!"
down below the newly repaired balcony was lilia—with the three children he considered family suspended behind his short frame. the sight alone has mana's heart fluttering, hearts emerging from the depths of her eyes.
"did we interrupt your sewing, my little thimble?" lilia inquired, albeit the simper curved on his lips was indubitably unapologetic. "do you think you could spare me a moment of your night? i have a gift for you♪"
mana's gaze shifted over to the diasomnia boys, and how they each retained an instrument in their possession. silver and sebek have various instruments mana remembered seeing in lilia's room before, and malleus has his violin—and that along is enough information for her to surmise what her beloved has planned.
tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear, mana sheepishly leaned against the balcony's railing as she smiled down at them, "for you, i do."
and truthfully, she expected the music to be as chaotic as the light music club's performances—but she's pleasantly surprised as malleus' bow begins to slide along the strings, a dulcet sound pulsing through the night air. silver and sebek's instruments gradually begin to coalesce into the soothing melody, highlighting the grace of malleus' playing.
the three of them continue to play, and mana felt lilia's eyes fixated on her; as if observing her reaction, his entity radiating a rhapsody of joy and excitement.
lilia was content knowing she's enjoying herself; that they had enraptured her and monopolized her attention completely.
mana found her breath being thieved from her lungs the moment lilia's guitar pick thrummed with his own strings, and the mellifluous sound of his singing voice echoed afterwards.
"even if your hand, your voice, and your afterimage fade; i am here—please let this message reach you~♪~♪"
finding her legs growing weak, quivering from the white-hot ache imbuing itself in the crevice of her chest, mana rested her weight forward onto the railings further. 'how beautiful...' she thought, overwhelmingly emotional, 'lilia-san, and everyone...'
"for it won't be long before i find you, keep the way home in your eyes; someday everything will return to the way it once was~♪~♪"
those lyrics evoked a tender yearning from within mana, her dewy-eyed expression shining as she kept her own gaze riveted onto how lilia's body swayed.
as the song's culmination came and went, the euphonious tune simmering down into steady, gradual beats, mana clapped and cheered. "that was wonderful-!" she effusively praised, giggling as the boys behind lilia all flushed.
even if she didn't understand the reasonings behind the sudden serenade, mana loved every second of it.
"kufufu, did you enjoy our performance?" lilia called up to her in congruence with a swarm of bats accumulating around him—and in an instant, he was fluttering right beside her; his body nestling down atop the railing as a hand reached out to cup her cheek. "i wanted to surprise you. i learned of this tradition on my many travels; isn't it perfect for showing my love to you?"
an airy laugh overflowed from mana's lips as she nodded her head, agreeing, "it is. why not let me sew you a new outfit next time you wish to show me a song?"
"does that mean you'll accept my affections?" lilia teased her adoringly, the devoted gleam sparkling in his eyes enchanting.
overlaying her hand overtop of his, mana avowed, "always, lilia-san."

Strange New Worlds Season 2, Episode 9, “Subspace Rhapsody,” is the kind of electrifying penultimate few shows could pull off. Yet, the Star Trek installment does so, bringing to our screens an explosion of emotions with riveting (and slightly discomfiting) performances. The series’ anthology format gives it plenty of space to lift off from various planes, and while last week’s episode was profoundly heavy, this one brings a plethora of feelings with a little more light.
In more ways than one, it’s Uhura’s episode to shine, but Strange New Worlds’ “Subspace Rhapsody” further paves the road for the romances in the series. Three primary relationships stand on the cusp of something meaningful, altering the course of where they are by revealing the importance of transparency. At the same time, the series continues to emphasize the significance of communication, which, if I were a full-blown-Trekkie, I might be able to confirm further. It’s a thoroughly enriching episode with a strong thematic focus to organically nudge the characters to where they’re supposed to be.

alalright time for dhbat songs reactions
found osaka first so theyre going first. im not sure its a good idea to name a song comedian rhapsody. you obviously invite comparisons to bohemian rhapsody which. u sure u wanna do that. what i want to compare it to is torima get on the floor though. similar vibes. my opinion on torima has HAD TO PAUSE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SONG BECAUSE GRANDMA HAD A PHONE QUESTION GDI anyway. my opinion on torima has become far more positive since it came out, so this is a positive comparison. god this chorus kills. makes me want to get up and dance.
under sail. what does this mean, well i wont find out for a bit bECAUSE ITS LOWES COMMERCIAL. oh boy labor day sale. i never wash my clothes in hot water so this tide commercial is losing me. oh boy this third commercial is trying to destigmatize the word pubic. girl help.
OK song time. the beat on this one another good one. theres never been a bad dh song. not sure about these yeah yeahs tho. p good. i dont think itll ever like. overtake own stage.
count the money is a fantastic title. yen yen bills and whatnot. this one is vibes. v good.  ooh whats this bridge here? lol mai waifu. OH KEY CHANGE!!!! just when i think i’ve got this songs number it reveals another digit! alright damn thats pretty stellar
fuck another lowes commercial. isnt this just riveting liveblogging content. i hate spotify. its just radio now.
aight hitoya’s up first for some reason. if i follow my heart. dig the title. dig the woodwind. ok he’s quieter than the woodwind, thats not good. HITOYA HONEY SPEAK UP. OK OK THATS. YEP THANKS. this is what the kids call a jam. but will it surpass its initial vibes? ok we’ve switched out for a lil electric keyboard. this is-- oh no the woodwind is back. mixed feelings on this woodwind now. i have a sneaking suspicion--OH SAX SOLO????--i have a sneaking suspicion. WHY IS THE SAX SO LOUD-- i have sneaking suspicion that the lyrics are gonna fuckin kill me. this sounds like a song where that would happen. so far all im being killed by is THE FUCKING MIXING WHO WAS AT THE BOARD FOR THIS.
young gun of the sun. this is a... not a cover? but he’s rapping over an existing song. so its not a sample either. i’m familiar with this comcept tho, heard other rappers do it. and kuko’s a known fan of punk rock so it makes sense. like i know these aren’t necessarily diagetic but i can so easily see him like, finding the instrumental of a song he likes and freestyling over it. this is what this feels like. what he does in his bedroom the second his dad leaves to run errands. also i love every part of this.
UGGGGHHHHHH MORE ADS FUCK YOU SPOTIFY this is why i barely use you anymore.
violet masquerade. first off the title rocks. but i wasn’t that impressed by the preview. not too into the. discordant carnival music vibe. and boyy the first verse is discordant. the chorus is decent but...? yeah no this is not doing it for me. as a jyushi lover this pains me. but compare it to moonlight shadow. moonlight shadow makes me cry. moonlight shadow is So Important. this is just. a song that exists
well, normally, i would say bat supremacy, but. well. they got smoked out by osaka man. that’s all i can say. happy 5th, hypmic.

Long-standing controversy exists between this film and the Tom & Jerry short, The Cat Concerto (1947). Both sides (WB & MGM) claim that theirs was the original, and the other was a rip-off. Nobody knows for sure who is correct and it is, of course, entirely conceivable that the similarities are so coincidental. An additional fact: The music was used & played earlier, in Rhapsody in Rivets (1941).

gosh dang i missed you all so freakin much!!!
camp was so much fun but i talked about y’all every single day you all mean so much to me skdfjlkdsjf
some highlights from camp:
MAKIN’ MY WAY DOWNTOWN *piano yeets against wall*
the first video i saw at camp was two skit characters making a trickshot parody just like bro average
don’t abandon my friend and i during the incredibly un-fun obstacle course or i will complete it while fueled by pure spite, emerge from the horrible-smelling mud looking like a swamp monster with many layers of dirt under my fingernails and in my hair, and proceed to shower- using up a ton of your shampoo and conditioner instead of my own as my stupid method of vengeance
A CABIN FULL OF GIRLS DRESSED AS ROSIE THE RIVETER (including me)
c l i c k  c l i c k  p u l l  p u l l
have you ever seen a group of girls trying to wrangle a man who is wearing nothing but shorts, duct tape, and an absolutely massive amount of crisco? because i have
my friend maura is mona lisa from parks & rec in disguise
high-speed chase in which a rubber chicken was decapitated
i was threatened by a man in a kilt
giant bees and beetles flying around. they didn’t sting or anything, and their wings were powerful enough to work as fans. very cooling and efficient
zip-lining lady said that she often punches the bees and beetles when necessary. “just punch them”
“did you forget i was mean”
WE CLIMBED A MOUNTAIN AND WE COULD SEE THE PLACE WHERE THEY FILMED THE HUNGER GAMES ARENA FROM THE PEAK
this carnival thing they did was too loud and cramped so i just sat and talked to bob the spider for an hour
“natUuUuUre :(”
boy on bus uncomfortably flirts with me when the lights are out and he doesn’t know what i look like. proceeds to think my friend is me the next morning. doesn’t notice her correcting him when he calls her “brianna”
“ned is present” “i thought it’s name was sheryl”
my florescent, and i mean florescent, pink gel pen exploded in my marker bag. i looked like i murdered a danganronpa character

the frogs have a conspiracy against me. when i try to catch them, they do not flee into the water- instead, they go to the other teenagers, knowing full well i’m too embarrassed to reach under another teen and snatch a bullfrog
*the final countdown plays as girl from yellow team attempts to drown a girl from my team (aka the green team) using her foot*
the girls upstairs stomp so hard that we get them in trouble. it sounds like thunder. we cannot sleep. they continue anyway. they stomp hard enough to break a light in our room.

karmen laughs so hard that she reopens a wound
i hurt where i should not hurt
“tell me you’re not going to american eagle”

i met a kid who lives close to me and watches jse, but he pronounced “anti” as “ant-eye.” i proceeded to gently place my hand on his shoulder and whisper “no”
girls from my hick town love florence + the machine, glass animals, needtobreathe, and declan mckenna and i’m so happy

“Ḑ O̷͟҉ W͢͏ N , G̨̕͟ Ì R̸͢ Ó̸ Ć̀ K Į̕ E͏̨ S̛͢”
my mom and another leader from my town wore cowgirl outfits while dramatically dancing to wrecking ball. our town’s one (1) male leader, chris, was lip-syncing it with much emotion. the curtains drew back to reveal another leader wearing a giraffe costume and sitting on top of an exercise ball suspended from the ceiling. she flings and hits chris. my mother and the other cowgirl dragged him away. the curtains close as the giraffe waves. it looks like a looney tunes outro
“i love everyone so much! - S̢͝͏Ơ̴̧ ̸̛Ḿ͢U͞C̡͝H”
yeehaw hoedown dance. drenched in sweat
*flirts with one (1) person* *it turns out that one (1) person lives thirty (30) hours away from me*

we loved our bus driver so much that we cheered for him and made up chants. he is our god now
A BUNCH OF MY FRIENDS GOT SAVED AND I’M SO HAPPY FOR THEM
chris was possessed by “alexa the jewish ghost”

joe mazzello fluff alphabet!
Tumblr media
a/n: okay so no one requested this but there is a serious lack of joe mazzello fics in the world and i have been in love with this man since the social network so i wanted to contribute. lol enjoy!
A = Attractive (What do they find attractive about the other?)
Joe loves your humor and wit. He thinks you’re so funny. It’s actually how he fell in love with you. You think his drive and ambition in his career is really attractive as well.
B = Baby (Do they want a family? Why/Why not?)
Absolutely! Joe loves kids and he would want nothing more than to start a family with you. He’s ready when you are.
C = Cuddle (How do they cuddle?)
So lazily and intimately. Often when you’re cuddling, he wraps his arm around your neck and pulls you closer into him, nearly smothering you. He even does it instinctively in his sleep.
D = Dates (What are dates with them like?)
Joe tries his best to plan the best dates. You guys would go to secluded little diners in small cities when you’re traveling. The overall vibe of date night is really chill and romantic. Somehow, he always succeeds at making you feel all warm and cozy inside.
E = Everything (You are my ____ (e.g. my life, my world…))
“You are my favorite person.” It’s really cute. Joe loves to call you his favorite person, or sometimes he shortens it to just “You’re my favorite.”
F = Feelings (When did they know they were in love?)
Nearly right away. About six months into your relationship, he had to go away to do a press tour for Bohemian Rhapsody. He found himself missing you every night, calling your phone when he knows you’re asleep just to hear your voice in your voicemail message. He knew he was in love.
G = Gentle (Are they gentle? If so, how?)
Honestly, yeah. Joe would just never want to hurt you in any way so he’s constantly gentle with you.
H = Hands (How do they like to hold hands?)
Joe holds your hand whenever he gets the chance. He often comments about how cold your hands are, and rubs them to warm them up. You find that he often holds both of your hands in his if he can.
I = Impression (What was their first impression?)
He was overwhelmed by how funny and confident you seemed. He found himself developing feelings for you as soon as he met you, but was convinced you were way out of his league.
J = Jealousy (Do they get jealous?)
No, not really. You both are really comfortable in your relationship, there’s no room for jealousy.
K = Kiss (How do they kiss? Who initiated the first kiss?)
Joe’s kisses are always really warm, and somehow always intense and passionate. Even when you’re lazily kissing in bed on a Sunday morning he finds a way to make it feel like your first kiss. Speaking of which, your first kiss was actually really sweet. It was your second date, and he dropping you off at your apartment. You guys sat in his car for about twenty minutes, being too engaged in your conversation you didn’t want to leave. He kissed you, sending the butterflies in your stomach in a craze.
L = Love (Who says ‘I love you’ first?)
You do, actually. You were talking to him about something really random and it nonchalantly slipped out. “You love me?” Joe said. You didn’t even realize you said it until he asked. You were stuttering over your words when you came to the realization. He found it adorable.
M = Memory (What’s their favourite memory together?)
You and Joe went to Disney World one year for your anniversary. You both had a lot of fun and took an uncountable amount of selfies with all the characters walking around the park. He loved how happy you were the entire day, and it’s still his favorite memory you two share.
N = Nickel (Do they spoil? Do they buy the person they love everything?)
Joe spoils you for sure. He’s constantly thinking of you wherever he goes, so if he finds something he thinks you would like, he buys it without hesitating. Often when he’s away in other countries, he’ll send you care packages chock full of little items from wherever he’s at accompanied by a cute, handwritten letter.
O = Orange (What colour reminds them of their other half?)
Pink reminds him of you, because it’s delicate and pretty. He reminds you of yellow, because it’s bright and happy.
P = Pet names (What pet names do they use?)
He calls you babe, baby, the usuals. However, he loves calling you things like sweetie and honey but would not be caught dead calling you those in public.
Q = Quaint (What is their favourite non-modern thing?)
Vinyl records. It’s very cliche, but he loves putting them on and dancing around like an idiot in his own home with you. It’s very sweet, and you find it adorable to no end.
R = Rainy Day (What do they like to do on a rainy day?)
He likes to stay in and read, watch films, write, or simply just chat with you. You like to do hands-on, sort of crafty things when you’re bored on a rainy day, and he likes to watch you do those and even tries to help you.
S = Sad (How do they cheer themselves/others up?)
When Joe is sad, he needs time to be by himself, and you understand that. You know that he will come find you and open up when he’s ready to talk. Talking to you always cheers him up though.
T = Talking (What do they like to talk about?)
Joe would literally feel so privileged to hear you talk about even the most boring things. He just adores talking to you and listening to you. Your conversations are always meaningful and riveting as well.
U = Unencumbered (What helps them relax?)
A nice, hot cup of tea and an indie film never fails to instantly relax him. You can always tell when Joe is stressed and you know the perfect ways to relax him. It works every time.
V = Vaunt (What do they like to show off? What are they proud of?)
You’re incredibly proud of Joe and his career! You love flaunting the fact that your boyfriend is a famous actor, writer, director. You’re just so proud of him it’s hard not to.
W = Wedding (When, how, where do they propose?)
Joe talks to your closest friends for months about how to propose, when, where, etc. He’s so nervous but he goes ring shopping and keeps the ring in his pocket nearly constantly, waiting for the perfect moment.
X = Xylophone (What’s their song?)
Ivan - Von Sell. It’s a really pretty song you both are fond of.
Y = Yes (Do they ever think of getting married/proposing?)
Yes, definitely. Joe can’t wait to be married to you and be able to call you his wife. He probably would call you his wife before you’re even married.
Z = Zebra (If they wanted a pet, what would they get?)
One day, Joe would come home with a little golden retriever puppy without even telling you beforehand. You’re a little shocked when he walks through the door with the little guy, but of course you’re not mad. You name him Banjo.

5, 15 and 28 :3c
5:A song that needs to be played LOUD
Bohemian Rhapsody is the obvious answer but let's be real, ALL symphonic rock should be played as loud as possible. Other choice options include: Africa by Toto and Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond.
15:A song that is a cover by another artist
America by Yes (Simon and Garfunkel cover). It’s over 10 minutes long. The original? Approximately 3:36.
28:A song by an artist with a voice that you love
Skating Away on the Thin Ice of a New Day by Jethro Tull. Look, I could listen to Ian Anderson read his shopping list out loud and I'd still be riveted

Reviews on the Arts

A Night At The Opera- Queen
Queen soars in their dynamic and experimental A Night At The Opera. Queen’s 1975 album is their most iconic journey through their innovative styles. Queen takes the extravagance and excellence of opera and adds iconic textures and power to create a masterpiece. A compilation of varying genres, Queen begins with a vexed homage to the anonymous … in “Death On Two Legs (Dedicated To…),” following with Freddie Mercury’s pleasant “Lazing On a Sunday Afternoon.” Roger Taylor’s “I’m In Love With My Car” showcases his raspy, powerful vocals and Brian May’s impressive guitar skills. The use of ethereal vocals creates that operatic tone that can be found throughout the album. John Deacon’s only song on the album is one of the band’s most well-known. “You’re My Best Friend” uses the band’s incredible harmonies to create a charming ‘70s tune. May takes the lead in a country-laden “‘39” with acoustic guitar and easy vocals and tells of a time long ago in this unorthodox song. “Sweet Lady” is the most chaotic; guitars, drums, and Mercury’s shouts meld together and contrast the tone of “‘39.” Mercury’s romanticism picks up again in “Seaside Rendezvous” and gives musical theater-like vocals and instrumentation with a joyous feel. “The Prophet’s Song” is the intermission, and an exquisite, experimental voice in the album. It is a journey in itself. Acoustic guitar, harp, and a delicate warning to “listen to the wise man” matures into an eclectic prophecy of doom. Freddie’s layered vocals in acapella represent musical genius and a foreboding lead to the second act of Queen’s theater. “Love of my Life” has a harp and trills to give it a regal, lost melody. May takes the lead again, this time with simple melody and a ukulele in “Good Company,” another vastly different stray from orthodox rock. The climax of the album is the infamous “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Starting with acapella pianissimo, the song builds slowly. Riveting, poetic lyrics coupled with grand instrumentation, specifically the guitar solos, tell a story like no other. Embracing the true nature of opera, the title of the album comes to a head with “Rhapsody’s” passionate dynamics, and ends in the final cadence “anywhere the wind blows.” The finale is an instrumental take on “God Save the Queen,” with drum raps and muted guitar for a final bow.

Call Me By Your Name- Andre Aciman
Andre Aciman’s novel Call Me By Your Name is breathtaking. Overwhelming, passionate desire is formed between 17-year old Elio and his father’s houseguest, Oliver. An older Elio narrates the story of that unforgettable summer. Against the backdrop of the hot Italian Riviera, the two slowly fall into each other. Their relationship is defined by longing, desire, and the deepest kind of intimacy. The title of the novel is telling; Elio wonders, “Is it your body that I want… or do I want to slip into it and own it as if it were my own?” When they are alone, and completely together, they call each other by their own names, a closeness that is rare and brilliant. The seductive, confident Oliver is the last person you think would come close to the insecure, deeply infatuated Elio, but that is what makes the story so invigorating. We discover that Elio is bold and Oliver struggles with his own deep desire. The most invigorating metaphor is the story of San Clemente. A poet wrote “The San Clemente Syndrome” while longing for his home in Rome. He didn’t want to go back with it unfinished, but in the Basilica of San Clemente, it became full of life. Elio longed for Oliver, though he “felt galaxies away.” He felt inferior and immature, and only felt complete with Oliver. Oliver is Elio’s San Clemente. The short time they spend together is unapologetically bare. The combination of sexuality, passion, and humanity makes this story memorable and beautiful. The pure intimacy and short timespan holds their relationship in a time that they can never relive nor forget. “Zwischen Immer und Nie. Between always and never.”

The King’s Speech
The King’s Speech, directed by Tom Hooper, is the story of King George VI and his speech therapist, Lionel Logue. The first scene is tense and anxious, much like Albert, future King George VI. It’s his first public speech in 1925. He walks solemnly to the arena and the crowd stares. His stammer is revealed, and we look away in secondhand embarrassment. Hooper’s sets are long and narrow, as Albert and his wife walk through narrow hallways to a microphone with thousands of people in close proximity. We feel cramped and nervous, a parallel to the character’s condition. Colin Firth plays a formal, reserved, and hopeless king. His wife (Helena Bonham Carter), supportive and sympathetic, finds a very successful speech therapist (Geoffrey Rush). Enter Lionel Logue. He is a direct contrast to Albert; he is bold, forward, and persistent. Lionel is a failed Australian actor, and he shows his views on royalty in their first meeting, demanding they speak on a first-name basis. Though he is reluctant to be called “Bertie,” Albert accepts Lionel’s help. The two develop a friendship that goes far deeper than Albert’s stammer. Written by David Seidler, The King’s Speech explores an unlikely friendship masterfully. It is quite humorous at times; Albert shouting obscenities at the top of his lungs with Lionel urging him on coming to mind. It also gives a glimpse into Albert’s complicated issues with his childhood and how Lionel forces him to confront them. This movie is interesting, because it tells a story that was very much ignored at its time. In the backdrop is the story of his Albert’s predecessor, David (Guy Pearce), and his messy abdication to marry the thrice divorced Wallis Simpson. Considered a much more interesting story by some, The King’s Speech tells the story of a monarch who was forced to confront his own issues to comfort a nation at war. By the time we reach the famed speech, we get the same feel as in the first scene. A nervous Albert, all eyes and ears on him- but this time Lionel is by his side. Through his coaching, he approaches the nation with a strengthened confidence. The scene ends quite differently. Instead of humiliation, there is triumph in the nation and Lionel and Albert’s friendship.
