ALPHABET HEADCANONS: JACK O’NEILL

A/N: This is it!!!! I’ve caved!!!! I need more content for this man and I’ve gotta create it myself, so enjoy these unprompted lil nuggets of fluff! And don’t forget my ask box is always open for more!!

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

Jack is super fuckin affectionate, but he’s more of a… show don’t tell kinda guy. He’s got a bit of a hard time necessarily talking about how he feels- usually deflects things with humor. But he shows it in other ways. In warm touches, in playful side-eyes. Unrestrained by being professional he will hug you all the fuckin time. No shortage of funny little pet names either oh my god it’s like he comes up with a new one every fuckin dAY. 

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

Jack O’Neill is a really good best friend ok. You’ve seen how he is with the rest of SG1. The dude has so much chill (unless it’s a life-or-death situation obviously), is always inviting you to go fishing. He’s REALLY good in tough situations simply because of his sense of humor and general chill attitude. GREAT at reducing anxiety like guy is a human valium- always knows how to distract anyone before their brain goes into some sort of head-spiral about anything. Loyal as SHIT when you’re in with him he’s pretty much ride or die for you even if you don’t agree with him on everything he would still probably take a bullet for his best friends. Also the biggest hype man- whatever you’re good at he has 100% faith in you to do it right and will always shut down negative thoughts about your abilities. 10/10 on the bestie scale tbh the man is a LIFER.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

He’s actually, perhaps surprisingly, a really snuggly guy when you’re in a relationship with him. He may be… a little touch-starved since the divorce, and kinda misses it, so expect an arm draped over your shoulder or around your waist whenever you’re in a room together, and to be damned near joined at the hip when you’re not in public. The man is an actual living cuddle bug and he’s so sweet jesus. 

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

At one point in time he’d have liked nothing more than to settle down, get a dog, just enjoy being retired, but honestly he doesn’t mind that that ideal is a little further away than he thought now that he’s in the Stargate Program. He likes what he does- as stressful as it is sometimes, but there’s never a dull moment. That’s for sure. He’s very good about cleaning and keeping things tidy generally (it’s that military training hard at work), but cooking??? Eh??? He’s passable, can make some basic stuff and ofc he loves to grill (expect very charred meat) but… just don’t ask him to cook anything too elaborate (like… this is a dude who thinks beer is a good omelette ingredient jfc do not let him near a stove for anything more elaborate than a fried egg he’s a fucking gremlin man). 

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

Quickly. And probably succinctly. The only time he’d really get blunt about something is if he had to end it with his partner for some reason. Just to spare himself and his partner the pain. It’s not without emotion though. Oh no. He may move on from things with relative ease- more likely than not without malice for the other person, but he’d never leave anyone without saying a proper goodbye if he’s the one who has to end it. 

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Probably not too quick. He’s not even sure he really wants to get married again after how everything with Sarah went down. He’d have to be pretty crazy about someone to want to try all that again, but if that happens… then maybe he won’t be thinking about it like that. 

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

H-… have you seen this man??? How tender he is with his partners??? It’s unbelievable that a guy like him has the capacity to be as gentle as he is but it’s breathtaking, and it’s only a glimpse of what he’s capable of. He may be a military man- but doing what he does requires much more care and dexterity than people think, and his touch only serves to show as much. This is the guy who holds your face or tugs you closer when you kiss him. This is the same guy who can diffuse bombs and wield a firearm like an extension of himself and handles you with the same amount of reverence and care if not more. 

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

Oh he loves hugs. Loves them. May not do hugs quite as often as he might like actually. Hugs his close friends plenty and especially when they need it, but hugs you even more. He’s a really good hugger too. They’re just encompassing and strong and warm and if you’re not careful you could get addicted. 

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

He waits on this one. For like… a long while. He probably knows it deep down long before he says it, probably won’t really admit it to himself for a long while even when he realizes that’s what he feels. But one day it probably just… slips out. Unprompted. And it’ll shock you both, but one thing’s for sure; he means it with his whole chest and nothing less. 

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

Oh you have no jealousy troubles with this man. He’s an adult, and he recognizes that he’s not the center of everyone’s universe and that people can have just friendly relationships with other people of the gender they’re attracted to. He wouldn’t be in any kind of serious relationship with someone he didn’t trust them implicitly from the start. The man is truly a champ at being chill as hell. If he ever does feel it you’d probably never fuckin know it either. Guy can keep that shit close to his chest if he wants. 

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Warm, enveloping, grounding. The kind that make you feel like you’re sinking into something solid, that nothing could hurt you. If he’s kissing you he’s taking his time. Holding you close. Meaning it. 

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

ARE YOU KIDDING??? HE’S FANTASTIC AROUND KIDS!!!! EARTH KIDS?? ALIEN KIDS??? THEY ALL LOVE HIM!!! HE IS JUST DAD SHAPED!!!!!! TO EVERYONE!!!! He’s… not sure if he’d ever want to try to have another kid of his own, maybe, but he has SERIOUSLY considered adopting some alien kids in the past at MINIMUM and probably would if he wasn’t always going off-world.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

A lot of groaning, at least when he wakes up at first, probably some sleepy kisses while resisting the temptation to uh… get frisky before work. But he’ll get up, clean up, shave and do his silly little crossword (and he DELIBERATELY puts in wrong answers for funsies I know this in my heart). Most days he probably eats breakfast at the base, but on his days off he would probably take turns with you making breakfast- makes egg and bacon smiley faces when it’s his turn (and the occasional beer omelet if he’s feeling lazy). PROBABLY would pick up donuts for the weekend too. 

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

Usually with a couple of beers, snuggling up under a nice flannel blanket and watching The Simpsons, or whatever else is on TV. Maybe some take-out from one of the usual places (I’m convinced he’s got like 5 or 6 places in town he’s a regular at that he goes to on rotation) . Probably gets a fire going if things are getting chilly up in Colorado. Just likes to settle in and maybe pass out on the couch a lil. 

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

He’s a low and slow kind of guy. Both for his own emotional well-being and for his partner’s. He’s got some pretty nasty demons in his past, and they overwhelm even him sometimes.  He knows that it’s important to talk about it, and while if he really loves someone he won’t mind sharing these things with them… it just takes time for him to work up the courage to face them again himself and put it all into words. 

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

With a partner, he’s just about as far away from easily angered as a guy can get. He’s actually very chill with the people he loves. There’s sincerely so very little that you could do that could piss him off to the point of losing his temper- and even then he’d never shout at you or anything- that’s the kind of shit he has to do and see enough at work, and he pretty explicitly never wants to cross that line with someone he’s in a romantic relationship with. And even if he is angry for some reason he’s never really angry at his partner- at least in affairs of the heart he pretty much always remembers the love he has for you comes first and foremost. 

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

Believe it or not he actually is *very* good at remembering things about people. He may be one whole dumbass, and can’t do math, but that’s because most of his brain capacity is taken up with things about the people he cares about. Probably knows you down to your favorite food- enough to know to bring it to you to cheer you up, or suggest watching your favorite movie when you get home after a long day. 

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

He probably remembers the moment you met the most clearly- the moment when you were suddenly in his life even though he didn’t know what you would end up meaning to him down the line. 

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

Jack is honestly the kind of guy who would rather die himself than stand idly by and watch someone he cares about die. This man would take a staff blast and so much worse for you and that’s a guarantee. But when he’s down that means he’s a little more vulnerable. He really appreciates it when he knows someone is gunning to keep him alive too. To know that despite his bravado and despite his own hero complex someone’s just as concerned with his livelihood. 

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

He’d put a little effort in. He’s more on the low-key side, not as big of a fan of grand gestures, and of course sometimes the job gets in the way of putting plans into motion (and he’d need a partner who’d understand that), but if that does happen he inevitably finds a way to make it up- sometimes even ahead of time if he has even a shred of warning about some kind of impending earthly peril. But when he plans something it’s usually very sweet, and far from an unfun cliché (but at least one time for valentine's day you *will* come home to rosepettals on the floor leading to the bedroom to find him in some silk boxers on the bed because of course he’s the gift). But usually things with him are… I don’t wanna say spontaneous because he does usually have at least a little bit of a game plan, but he’s all for improvisation and just loves getting swept up in doing whatever with you.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

I wanna take some time to call him out thoroughly on the fuckin beer omelets thing my guy do you???? Have taste buds???? Listen. With other shit in there I might understand. Beer and cheese is a good combo. But???? JUST BEER IN YOUR EGGS AVAJSFHR!!!!!! Of all the stuff you’ve done in this whole series this is probably your greatest war crime and I’m gonna fucking invoke the 3rd amendment for it. Oh also his fridge is nasty and full of “science experiments” (which like... same) but guy I get why you always be getting take out now jesus fucking christ.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

Not overly. You’ve seen how this man dresses. He has his little inexplicably fashionable moments, but by *far* he’s more concerned with practicality at least where his attire and physical appearance are concerned. That being said, if you compliment him on like literally anything he will get a major confidence boost about it and will try to do it/wear it more. 

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

No… and yes. With all he’s seen and been through, he knows not everything is certain, not everything is meant to be and nothing is forever. But at the same time… he feels just a little better off with you around. He feels this kind of thing with everyone he’s really close with in their own unique way. He really doesn’t know where he’d be without the people he cares about who care about him back and can’t imagine a scenario in which he’d feel whole as a person without them coming into his life at the time they did. And you’re absolutely no different. 

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

So we know Jack has like the biggest fuckin sweet tooth. Pie, Cake, Donuts, ice cream, all of it. There’s always sweets in the house. And if you *make* some for him??? He will automatically love you forever. Also would probably be ok with you feeding him sweets. Warning tho: He’d probably do it back and get it all over your face and whoops now you’re making out covered in frosting and bits of cake and the only way to clean up is to lick it off each other’s faces oh no oh dear. 

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

Petty, pushy people. Just doesn’t have the time. Jack can honestly vibe with just about everyone, even people who are wildly different than him, but the only thing that’s really an outright nope for him is people who are so wrapped up in petty problems they can’t see any kind of bigger picture. Or people who are just generally *too* pushy or overly dramatic about every little thing for little to no reason to the point of being just plain childish. He can handle just about everything else but that??? Nope.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)

Kinda sprawls out a lil in his sleep. Typically a stomach sleeper but shifts to his back sometimes (especially to cuddle). He’s always at least touching you in his sleep because no matter how much or little he just likes knowing you’re there.

I watched all the arthurian tv series I could possibly find and put them all from best to worst (imho)

Regarding my opinions and my taste: I am okay with low budget, bad special effects and even bad/weird acting, I prefer enjoyment over any kind of historical accuracy. I also enjoy cheesy movies, and I prefer characters over plot, and plot over the rest (pace, acting etc.).I tend to prefer movies that uses characters with a reason (ex. using Morgause as Arthur's sister versus using a random guy and calling him Gaheris just because it's an arthurian sounding name). I am also a bit Mordred fan.

Here I considered miniseries part of the tv shows/series list!

The Legend of King Arthur (1979) - my favourite arthurian media EVER. Among movies and tv shows, this is my favorite ever. It focuses a lot on Morgana and Arthur and on her revenge in particular. If you like Morgana, this show is for you. It also has a great Mordred, and some very beautiful moments for Bors.

Kaamelott - Amazing arthurian parody that starts as full on sketches and gets pretty serious and dramatic by the 5th season. It focuses mainly on Arthur.

Arthur et les enfants de la Table Ronde (animated series) - amazing animated show about a kid Arthur living in Uther's castle and having a bunch of adventures with Guinevere, Morgana, Gawain, Sagramore and Tristan. Pretty heartwarming!

The Boy Merlin - while I am not a Merlin fan in general, I still loved this miniseries which focuses on Merlin's childhood and small adventures without being too cheesy.

Arthur of the Britons - I love this show, and I am a big Kay fan so this show is really a gift. Sadly, it lacks in arthurian events/characters.

The Mists of Avalon (2001) - I hate the novel, but the miniseries managed to cut out my least favorite parts, and kept the bone structure of it. It also focuses on Morgana and she is played by one of my favorite actresses.

The Adventures of Sir Lancelot - episodic and fun, this has one of my favourite Lancelot ever. The only thing I disliked was that there is no overall plot or drama

Camelot (Starz, 2011) - the series was cancelled after the first season so it never gets to other events, but as a Morgana focused series it was pretty amazing. Arthur was quite weak as a character, but at least Eva Green was in it.

The Legend of Prince Valiant (cartoon) - this is my favorite adaptation of Prince Valiant and it has tons of arthurian elements, in particular it also had some great episodes for Gawain and Guinevere.

Fate/Apocrypha (anime): This season is not connected with the other seasons and can be watched alone. It is about humans summoning historical figures as servants to fight and obtain the Grail (basically a wish-giving object). Mordred is one of these figures.

Trollhunters (animated series) - (only first season and third season) The arthurian elements are pretty vague at the beginning, but the new season explored Camelot and the relationship between Morgana and Arthur. In general, Morgana is a great character in this show.

The Librarians - Mainly not an arthurian series, but it is a general fun show and it has Galahad as one of its main characters, with some specific episodes about him.

The Adventures of Sir Galahad - a fun watch but very repetitive. Still, I enjoyed this one tv series where Mordred and Galahad actually interact

Cursed (Netflix) - Tv show focusing on Nimue. Pretty fun, especially by the end, but many times the whole "this character by neutral name... is actually *insert arthurian character here*" ended up being not necessary and pretty fanservice-y, without any real meaning.

Merlin (1998 miniseries) - while I enjoyed it, in particular the second episode, I generally disliked many of the "beauty as most important for women" elements

Merlin (BBC) - I enjoyed the first two seasons more than the rest. The show ends up with a lot of plot stuff missing or forgotten and it ends up with no particular coherent plot at all.

King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table (anime) - I am still at episode ~ 12, but I am really enjoying it. It focuses on the adventure of Arthur on a journey (with some other knights) to find out who killed his parents and stop the big anime style villain

Sir Gadabout - I only watched a few episodes so take this with a grain of salt, but it's a funny parody show, but nothing special

Il cuore e la Spada - an Italian Tristan and Isolde tv show

Stargate SG1 season 9 and 10 - This was a good show, but it's this low because the arthurian elements of these "arthurian seasons" are only a few.

King Arthur's Disasters - Episodic parodies about Arthur, Lancelot and Guinevere (mainly).

Fate/Stay Night and *Fate/Zero (*anime) - The anime has some arthurian elements (Holy Grail and Saber/Arthur), but I did find it pretty confusing e boring.

Once Upon A time - The tv show had some arthurian elements and then an entire arthurian arc. Unfortunately they dropped so many plots points that it literally made no sense.

Merlin's Apprentice - Melrin 1998 without the interesting parts

The Seven Deadly Sins (Anime) - It has Merlin, Tristan's Dad and Lancelot's dad among its main characters, plus other arthurian characters and Arthur as a guest character. It has some really problematic elements and the third season was also pretty boring.

Mr Merlin - this is barely arthurian. It's also about Merlin in modern times, and nothing too exciting.

Alias the Jester - I don't even know why I watched it. It only had, like, one arthurian element and in general it was pretty boring

Arthur And The Square Knights Of The Round (I watched some episodes ages ago, but I remember nothing)

King Arthur and the Knights of Justice

Blazing Dragons

Guinevere Jones (it's impossible to find in English)

Merlin (1980 German tv show and, sadly, I don't know German)

House of Anubis (never found it in English)

Merlin (2012, only in French)

Runaways (I watched the first season, and have yet to get to the arthurian elements in the third)

Honorable mentions:

The MacGyver's arthurian episodes are among my favorite Connecticut Yankee adaptations. Doctor Who Battlefield was also a pretty good arthurian arc.

Alien Soup For The Soul

Notes: I wrote this about a million years ago and only just found it to publish!

Summary: Sam is sick. It's the end of the world. If she has to watch one more MacGyver rerun, she might just lose it. But then her family come to the rescue.

Sam was pretty sure the dog was going to get sick of their one-sided conversations soon. Of all the times some alien parasite or disease had infected her, even the worst had nothing on the flu. Janet had assured her that it was harmless, a human illness that she must have caught from someone on the base. Still, she was put on leave until the doctor cleared her. In a week or so, she’d be back on duty.  

For now, she was holed up in her bed, sulking. On the bedside table was a box of tissues, already half empty ,  and the biggest water bottle she could find. She was home alone today; Cassie was at school and Janet was at work. SG1 were on standby ,  and no doubt the boys were enjoying their time off from doing work - related stuff.  

Having the house to herself left Sam and Homer to curl up watching some reruns of MacGyver. Her head felt as if it were full of c4 so she didn’t even have the energy to mock the ‘science’ in the show.  

Relief came at noon that day; she was eating some rice crackers and waiting for death when she heard the front door open. She heard the men before she saw them because there wasn’t anything subtler than, ‘Ow, Danny! Watch where you’re going with that thing!’  

‘Quiet ,  Jack! She could be sleeping. I’m not sure I want to face the wrath of a sick, over - exhausted Sam.’  

Teal’c responded with an ‘Indeed , ’ and she felt herself smile a little.  

“If I was sleeping,” she called out through the open bedroom door after Homer, “I’m not now.”  She heard another hushed argument erupt between her friends as she pulled on some sweat pants and slouched out into the living room. Jack was helping himself to the fridge as Daniel set down a box that seemed to be overflowing with papers. Teal’c stood by the couch and bowed his head when he saw his friend approach.  

“Major Carter, you are not looking well. Doctor Fraiser said you were on bed rest.”  

She smiled at his concern and patted his arm as she found a spot on the sofa by the dog. The others joined them, Jack having found nothing of interest in the kitchen and he smirked at her as he took a seat.  

“What Teal’c means to say, Major, is that we just swung by to see how you were doing and if there was anything we could do for you...” A sudden look of worry crossed his face. “You’re not contagious, are ya?”  

Sam took that moment to sneeze, earning herself a suspicious glare from Jack and a raised brow from Teal’c. Daniel just handed her a tissue.  

“No ,  sir,” she sniffled miserably after she wiped her nose, pulling her legs to her chest. “Not contagious ,  sir. You can’t catch death.”  

Daniel grinned at her dramatics. “Well, I know Janet said no work, but I also know you’re bored out of your mind right now, so I brought you some things to work on.” The archaeologist nodded to the box and Sam wished she had the energy to get up and examine the files right then and there  

“And I brought you some soup, Major Carter. It is a stew my mother once made for me when I was a child. It brought me great comfort when I was ill,” Teal’c added with a nod.  

No doubt it was the flu's fault, but Sam felt herself getting a little too emotional at the thought of her friends coming by to comfort her.  

All eyes were on Jack then, who was fiddling with a knickknack that had been perched on the coffee table. He looked up, blinking with those big brown eyes ,  and Daniel snickered.  

“I uh… I drove. That counts for something right?” As much as Daniel made fun of the man for his lack of input, Sam had to admit that it did count for something. She knew none of them were social butterflies, but it was rare that the team got several days off in a row. Instead of going off to have fun without her, they’d ventured over to keep her entertained.  

Still, after an hour of their company (and the ongoing bickering between the resident space monkey and the fly-boy), Sam was in desperate need of another nap. Teal’c seemed to notice her waning energy and attention span and promptly, and very gently, indicated to the other men that it was time to leave.

The silence that followed was both heaven and torture at the same time. In the end, she opted for more crap TV. She fell asleep during a particularly thrilling episode (in which Mac was building a bomb out of chewing gum) ,  and when she awoke, Homer was whining by the back door. Janet was standing beside the sofa, tray in hand ,  and she smiled warmly when she saw Sam’s eyes open.  

“Hey, sweetheart,” she cooed – Sam was reminded how much she loved Janet’s empathetic doctor voice – and Janet set the tray down, smoothing a hand over Sam’s forehead. The blonde leaned into the touch and hummed softly, the touch cool against her warm skin. She stifled a yawn and opened her eyes to Janet again. “How’re you feeling?”  

“Like I’ve been ‘zatted’ and shoved down a flight of stairs.”  

“You've traveled the universe and all you get is this lousy cold,” Janet smirked. She perched on the edge of the couch beside her lover and patted her leg. “Well the good news is, I’m not on call until Sunday now ,  so you’re stuck with me.”  

Despite the pressure throbbing through her skull, Sam smiled and kissed the doctor’s palm as it came to rest on her cheek. “Thanks… though I can’t promise I’ll be any good company.”  

“Not to worry. I’m sure MacGyver can keep me entertained. He’s so dreamy, after all…” That earned her a half - assed glare from the astrophysicist that she quickly disarmed with food. The soup that Teal’c had brought was life - changing ,  and ,  knowing that he had probably substituted some ingredients from the original recipe, she couldn’t imagine how amazing his mother ’ s would have been. It was almost like a pea and ham soup but with enough of a kick to get her nose running and…was that cinnamon? Whatever it was, Sam almost felt better after one bite. Almost.

The next day was no better. Janet had noticed that her fever was still persistent, though not dangerous, and work was still out of the question. Thank god for Saturdays though because it meant that Cassie and Janet were both home and that meant some rare family time.  

Late in the afternoon, Sam ended up sandwiched between her girls, her head in her girlfriend’s lap and her feet in their daughter’s. Homer was sulking on the floor, apparently upset that he wasn’t involved in the cuddle pile. Out of pity – because really, Janet would never have chosen it on her own – the trio were watching Star Trek (and Janet for the life of her couldn’t tell which one it was). She knew her lover was still sick when the woman barely muttered at the use of ‘Reverse the polarity.’ Janet’s fingers combed through Sam’s hair, and the touch had Sam nodding off again, finding comfort in the warmth of her two favourite girls. Cassie was busy with some homework but kept Sam’s feet warm between her book and her lap.

The days passed too quickly and before Sam knew it, she was feeling a whole lot better; that’s what alien soup and cuddles will do for you. It felt good to be suiting up again, readying herself for their mission to P2C-934. She straightened her cap as she stepped up to the ramp, her boys by her side, and General Hammond watching from behind the glass. Everything was right in the world again.  

“SG-1, you have a --” Hammond was cut off as Colonel O’Neill and Teal’c sneezed in tandem. They shared a look and then turned to Sam. “SG-1, stand down and report to the infirmary.”

a/n: hello! so this is my first official attempt at a Stargate piece, hopefully I didn’t butcher the characters too bad and I hope y’all enjoy!

Sometimes I forget you’re not military.

Maybe that’s why she found herself standing outside Daniel’s apartment at such a late hour, or the excuse she would give if her actions were questioned. It wasn’t like she could show up on the Colonel’s doorstep in the middle of the night, aside from being highly inappropriate given their positions he also just wouldn’t understand.

She knew it was late, and she knew she probably should have called ahead first to make sure he was even ok with her just showing up but she was still in a spin after the events of the last few days.

Cassandra was fine, Janet had opened her home to the young girl indefinitely once they had determined the bomb inside her was no longer present. Sam had accompanied them both back to Janet’s in order to help Cassandra get settled and had hung around for a few hours before promising to check in the next day. She had left under the pretence of going home and getting some rest but had quickly changed direction at the prospect of going back to her empty home with nothing but her own thoughts to keep her company. Said thought process was why she had found herself outside of her friends apartment at just shy of eleven thirty at night.

Before she could stop herself, Sam raised a hand and knocked lightly on his door. She decided to give him a few moments to answer before leaving, she wouldn’t knock again and a small part of her hoped he wouldn’t answer so she could take it as a sign and convince herself it had been a bad idea after all.

He did answer however, stood in a t shirt and a pair of sweats, Daniel had a look of mild confusion on his face before quickly recovering and offering Sam a smile.

“Hey Sam.”

She didn’t look him in the eye but caught sight of his attire and instantly felt awkwardness fill the air, what was she even doing here? Daniel was her friend sure, but were they close enough that she could just show up at his place unannounced late at night? Maybe not so much.

“Do you wanna come in?”

His soft voice cut through her thoughts and that’s when Sam realised she had just knocked on his door and proceeded to stare at him instead of saying anything when he answered, finally looking at him properly she gave a small nod. She wasn’t sure what she was going to say in regards to why she was there but she figured any kind of conversation was better had inside than in the hallway of his apartment building.

Daniel opened his door wider and stepped aside to let Sam pass, he had considered calling her to check in, but he knew she was helping Cassandra get settled at Janet’s place and didn’t want to stick his nose in where it potentially wasn’t wanted. Her turning up at his apartment however had quashed some of his worries about her not wanting his help.

“I’m sorry for just showing up like this, I hope I didn’t wake you.”

The awkwardness was back as she crossed the threshold, Daniel closed the door behind her and she turned to face him.

“You didn’t, I was actually just doing a bit of reading.”

He assured and she finally smiled, his face always lit up when he spoke about nerd stuff as Jack liked to call it.

“How’s Cassandra?”

His question caused her smile to falter, the mention of the young girl flooded Sam’s mind with memories of the past few days. She was fine, they all were, but it didn’t change what had happened and what had nearly happened. She had just about been able to hold herself together aside from her moment in the elevator and the last thing she wanted was to show up at Daniel’s place and then cry all over him.

“She’s.. fine.”

She answered after a pause and Daniel nodded, waiting patiently for her to elaborate. 

“It’ll take her a while to adjust to being here on Earth but Doctor Fraiser’s already smitten, she’s been through a lot but she’s a good kid.”

With another nod, Daniel gave her a soft smile. He didn’t need to ask Sam how she was doing, it had been a tough few days for them all but she and Cassie had formed a special bond from the get go and he couldn’t begin to imagine the toll this all had taken on her. It was then he realised they were still standing by his door and mentally chastised himself for being a rude host.

“Would you like something to drink?”

He asked, gesturing for her to head further into his apartment.

Sam briefly considered asking if he had anything alcoholic but they both had work the next morning and with her mind already in a spin, she wasn’t sure alcohol would be the best choice.

“Water’s fine, thanks.”

She told him with a small smile as she headed on through towards his kitchen with him in tow. She’d been to his place before on a few occasions but that had been with Teal’c and the Colonel when they’d had time for a rare team evening, it had never been just the two of them.

Daniel busied himself with grabbing glasses from the cabinet whilst Sam stood across from him, wondering what direction their conversation would take next. She still wasn’t entirely sure why she’d decided to stop by Daniel’s place after leaving Janet’s, she didn’t really wanna talk about the days events but she also hadn’t wanted to head home alone and deal with her own thoughts.

“I was going to call you actually.”

He mentioned casually, glancing over to gauge her reaction whilst he filled two glasses up with water from the tap.

“You were?”

She sounded genuinely surprised and he nodded.

“I meant what I said before Sam, you don’t have to do this alone.”

At the time she had assumed he was simply referring to taking care of Cassandra. He offered her a glass and she took it with a grateful smile. They lapsed into a comfortable silence for a few moments after that, both simply enjoying the others company and giving Sam time to mull over the revelation.

They shared a glance, both knowing what they wanted but unsure of whether the other wanted it too. Eventually it was Sam who made the first move, perhaps it was the adrenaline still racing through her from almost dying but in that moment all she wanted was him. Setting her glass down on the counter beside her she closed the remaining distance between them, bracing herself with a hand against his chest she pressed her lips to his. It was chaste and over as quick as it had started but when she made to move away, Daniel brought a hand to her cheek and drew her in for another kiss.

Both allowed themselves to get lost in the moment, Sam moved her hands to his waist, fingers gently fisting the material of his shirt as his free hand cupped her other cheek. It was soft, and gentle, and so Daniel.

He loved Sha’re but he couldn’t deny his growing feelings towards Sam. His determination to find his wife had never wavered and he wouldn’t give up no matter how long it took and regardless of his feelings for another.

They had become fast friends since meeting during her trip to Abydos with Jack and the others, she wished it had been under better circumstances but since he had joined SG-1 in hopes of finding his wife, they had all become a bit of a family of sorts. A pretty dysfunctional one, but a family nonetheless. Working for the military as long as she had, Sam was well aware that relationships were against regulations, but like she had been reminded of earlier that day, Daniel wasn’t military. That’s not to say she wanted a relationship with him, for a start he was married, but it was a comfort to her to know that they could have something between them if they so wished it, without serious repercussions.

Finally parting, they remained close. The moment Daniel had realised that Sam wasn’t joining them back on the surface replayed in his mind along with the fear and dread he had felt, brushing a hand down her arm he took one of her hands and gave it a soft squeeze.

“I thought I’d lost you back there, at the facility.”

With a small sigh, Sam lowered her gaze.

“I couldn’t leave her Daniel.”

She repeated the words she’d told the Colonel before, it made her feel sick to think she had nearly left Cassandra in that cold and damp basement at the nuclear facility all by herself. She had only turned back because of her last minute realisation that the bomb possibly wouldn’t detonate after all and she didn’t dare consider how she would have felt had things turned out differently.

“No, I know, I just, I’m really glad you’re ok, both of you.”

His relief upon hearing her voice over the com had been palpable, he knew the risk their jobs entailed but each time they managed to get through another mission he sent a silent prayer to whoever or whatever god was watching over them.

“I should probably go, it’s late.”

He considered asking her to stay, his guest room was set up for any impromptu team nights otherwise his bed was also rather comfortable if he did say so himself. It had been an overwhelming few days for them both however, Sam was upset and he didn’t want them to let their emotions get the better of them and do something they would later regret.

With a nod he took a small step back, if he had any intention of following his better judgement then he needed to put some space between them. He still had her hand in his however and he gave it another gentle squeeze before letting go.

She dismissed the small pang of disappointment she felt when he didn’t ask her to stay, it hadn’t been her intention for anything like this to happen when she’d made the decision to stop by and knew they were doing the right thing by stopping before they passed the point of no return.

He took lead and she followed him back through his apartment to the door, he opened it for her and she silently stepped over the threshold before turning back to him with a smile.

“See you tomorrow?”

She knew she would but the question held a deeper meaning and he knew it. A smile crossed his lips and he gave her another nod.

“See you tomorrow.”

Hey can I get a Stargate(sg1) and Star Trek (idc which one) male ship? I'm 5'2, I'm an avid skater, I'm joining the military in a couple of weeks. I'm really into fashion. I play the drums and guitar. I love to laugh, like honestly there is nothing better. I love 80s music. I'm a female but I'm more of a tomboy than butch cause I still like my feminine side. I'm very laid back and honest to god, I barely give a shit anymore (in a good way). I would say I'm badass but I love myself so 😉

Stargate SG-1:

I ship you with Cam. He would find you to be an integral part of the team and trusts you more than anyone. He loves that you are laid-back and carefree, it makes him feel relaxed being around you. He likes just hanging out with you, not necessarily doing anything in particular. He could watch you practice guitar, or listen to music with you for hours. 

How you met: You were on a military team that was assigned to Stargate Command. He noticed you immediately during the briefing and introduced himself afterwards.

Dates: Whenever you have day’s off the two of you will do an array of things. Brunch, Dinner, Movies, Arcades, Double Dates with Sam and Jack (yes I ship it lol). etc. On occasion, especially during special holidays or anniversary and such he will surprise you with flowers and/or sweets and an amazing dinner.

PDA/Cuddling: Cam is very professional but takes the chance to steal kisses on the base when no one is around. He is not afraid to flirt with you in front of the others though, much to the annoyance of Daniel. When you spend the evening or night together Cam loves to cuddle. He will hold you in his arms, play with your hair, rest his face in the crook of your neck, the whole works. Honestly he’s just a sweetheart.

Best-Friend: Sam. She loves the two of you together and truly thinks that you are the best for each other and perfect pair.She enjoys your company and asks you for favors and advice all the time, knowing that you will never let her down. She is also willing to do anything for you as well.

Star Trek: (idk if you wanted tv shows and didn’t care which one, or didn’t care if it was movies or  one of the shows, but I hope you like it)

I ship you with Jim. You were shocked when he approached you the first time, not having expected the Starfleet Captain to notice you at all. He enjoys being around you and having you there with him during stressful times. He always sees you as a trusted ally, companion and pretty much the love of his life. Jim would do anything to save you and makes you known how much he loves and appreciates you every day. You bonded over your love of 80′s music and he loves that you can play the drums and guitar.

How you met: At the Starfleet Academy. You had just graduated and he was there for a lecture and he noticed you from across the room (cliche I know).

Dates: Being on a ship in space doesn’t give you much time to go out, but whenever the two of you are off duty at the same time he will whisk you away to a secluded place. Here he will have set up a nice meal for you, complete with candles and flowers. He can be quite a romantic when he tries.

PDA/Cuddling: He is not ashamed to flirt with you in front of his crew, but he will keep a certain professional decorum, no matter how much he wants to kiss you every time he sees you. When you are alone however, he can never keep his hands off of you, but not necessarily in a sexual way, but in a, I haven’t gotten to see or kiss you in ten hours and I’m sad about it, let me hug and kiss you, kind of way. 

Best-Friend: Bones. Jim had introduced you to Bones soon after you met, he liked your determination and loyalty and not to mention the attitude you can give when Jim does stupid shit.

Building cosplay can be a fun but challenging craft. This cosplayer takes it to a whole new level! Meet Amanda aka Rumplestilt Seam. She is a Texas based cosplayer that builds elaborate costumes that are quite frankly stunning to look at in person. Amanda is a seamstress who does commission work which you should go take a look at. I reached out to Amanda and asked her some questions in regards to her cosplay hobby.

(Danniel Slade) Can you start off by telling me a little bit about yourself?

(Amanda Phillips) My name is Amanda, I’m 25 years old and I’m from The Woodlands Texas. I go by Rumplestilt_seam in the cosplay community and I have over eight years of stage and theater experience under my belt, so naturally it was the obvious progression to move onto cosplay. I’ve been doing cosplay and costuming for a little over seven years; I’ve created award-winning costumes and skits, as well as having a piece accepted in the Dallas A-Kon 28 Cosplay Museum. I enjoy cosplay from different genres including anime, video games, comics, TV shows, and Movies. I tend to lean more towards DC Comics heroines and video game characters as well as a plethora of mashup and crossover pieces.

(DS) How did you come up with the name Rumplestilt Seam?

(AP) It’s kind of a funny story. I was for the longest time going under the alias “Adnamana12” which is my name backwards and the number twelve, and not so surprisingly people had a hard time pronouncing that. So, one evening I was posting about a costume I had finished recently, and I had a friend comment, “Wow! Girl, you spin out costumes faster than Rumplestiltskin spins gold!” and then it clicked. I came up with a play on Rumplestiltskin, RumplestiltSeam since I sew/am a seamstress.

  (DS) What fandoms are you into?

(AP) So MANY! To name a few though would be: Supernatural, Game of Thrones, Marvel/DC, Harry Potter, Stranger Things, Anime, and some old school 90’s-00’s sci-fi like Stargate SG1 (and Atlantis), as well as Farscape. But really, I’m into a lot of different stuff including Video Game famndoms, if I were to keep going this whole interview would be about Fandoms haha.

(DS) When did you get into cosplay?

(AP) VBS of 2011. It was video game themed and they allowed the volunteers to dress up and I went as the cheapest looking thrift shop Princess Peach in a Dolly Parton wig (I kid you not) haha! But the kids loved it, and I loved it, so I started to do it more often and put more thought into my costumes. Eventually I took the big leap and started making my own costumes from scratch and the rest is history.

  (DS) How do you choose what you are going to create for cosplay?

(AP) That’s a question with a very dull answer haha. I usually just choose things on Impulse. I’ll see something I like A LOT and just BOOM that’s what you’re cosplaying next. Unless it’s for a competition, then I listen to a bunch of different music/song tracks and try to narrow down who would fit what best, figure out a routine, and then choose.

  (DS) In total, how many costumes have you created over the years?

(AP) It’s somewhere around 20ish.

  (DS) Do you have a favorite costume that you want to wear over and over?

(AP) Sith Snow White definitely! I also love wearing Ciri, but she’s so dang hot to wear here in Texas with our Summers.

(DS) What was your easiest build?

(AP) Easiest build was Genderbent Meriln (BBC) I made for TRF last year. It was easy because I literally made it from fabric scraps I already had, I only needed to buy the fabric dye (Blue dress wasn’t always blue) and the jacket.

  (DS) Now on the flip side, what was your hardest build?

(AP) Hardest was an all foam armored Cat Woman that I hand sculpted and built up the motorcycle style helmet with long angular cat ears. Took me almost 9 months to complete, mainly because I didn’t know squat about foam smithing at the time.

(DS) What is your favorite convention to cosplay at?

(AP) Right now, it’s Comicpalooza in Houston. It’s local to me so it’s almost guaranteed that I will attend every year, I also usually compete in the Cosplay Contest.

  (DS) That was my next question! So you have competed in a cosplay competition, have you ever placed?

AP: I have! I’ve competed six times and placed in five of them! I usually compete in the skit division (as I mentioned before I used to be a pro dancer) since I like entertaining, but that doesn’t mean I skimp on craftsmanship! I always do prejudging and try to make at least 80% of my costumes for professionality sake.

  (DS) What is your next convention that fans will see you at?

(AP) The Texas Renaissance Festival (Unsure of which weekend(s) right now), and Oni-Con in Galveston Texas on November 9th- 11th (Oni-Con: https://oni-con.net/ , TRF: https://www.texrenfest.com/)

  (DS) You recently acquired an embroidery machine. How has your life changed now that you have it, what are your plans with all that power?

(AP) I feel like He-Man “I have the POWER!!” haha! But for real, I’m still only learning how to use it. Right now, I’ve been making Dice Bags; but as I familiarize myself with it I do plan to use in I’m my commissioning business as well as personal projects. I feel it’s a game changer for any cosplayer to invest in an embroidery machine for sure.

  (DS) What is on your cosplay bucket list?

(AP) SO MANY THINGS. Flame Atronach from Skyrim with lights and smoke effects. Anything designs from Artist(s) Noflutter, Hannah Alexander, or Sunset Dragon. I LOVE detailed pieces, and those artists make DETAILED pieces.

(DS) Outside of cosplay, what do you do for fun?

AP: Not much really. I know that sounds kind of lackluster, but what I mean is I’m a pretty simple and easily entertained person. I’m satisfied to sit and watch Netflix all day or read a book (Currently engrossed with The Witcher series). I’m seriously awkwardest of potatoes in real life haha.

  (DS) Are there any other cosplayers that inspire you?

(AP) Yaya Han, Kamui Cosplay, Jessica Nigri, and Cowbuttcrunchies are my biggest Cosplayer inspirations in craft and business models. They’re all such strong women of the cosplay community, and I want to be like them when I grow up.

  (DS) What would you say to someone who might want to build their first costume but don’t know how to get started?

(AP) Find your niche and grow with that until you’re ready to build a new skill. For example, I am a pretty solid seamstress, it’s what I’m good at. But I can’t really craft with Worbla or foam at the same skill level, but it’s one I currently working on. It may not be the same for everyone, some may start out being a makeup/wigs wizard but can’t figure out the working end of a sewing machine or start out with people thinking you’re part Tolkien Dwarf because you can craft armor like one, but you don’t know the first thing about styling a wig. And vice versa. Don’t get overwhelmed by trying to learn and do everything all at once, ease into it and learn it all at a healthy comfortable pace.

Stargate SG-1

Ooooooh, thanks lovely! XD

My favorite Episode: Entity. I know you need the rest of season 4 for it to really hit but hands down its my favourite. (Oh god, just thought. @nicehatgeorgia is TLTDKYMYS (you’re right that is long) going to have Entity fallout? *Dies happy if yes*)

My least favorite episode: Uhm. Off the top of my head? The one where the Harsesis gives Daniel the vision and Daniel goes power mad and we’re not surprised. Or any of the politics episodes. Boring.

My favorite Arc: Actually, considering how much I dislike Daniel (and I do, a lot), I do enjoy all the “trying to find Atlantis and the Ancients toys” episodes (even if Daniel murders the Welsh pronounciation of Myrddin). Or any of the Tok'ra episodes.

My least favorite Arc: Can we count Fucking Pete as an arc? Because that. XD I love happy!Sam, and finally touching each other again!Sam/Jack, but at the cost of having Pete around? No thanks. If not, Apophis dying and coming back to life like a yo-yo.

My favorite ship: Sam/Jack.

My favorite character: Ooooh… Sam or Teal'c. I wish I could be as chill as Teal'c.

My favorite season: Four. *Happy shippy sigh*

My least favorite: Seven - the introduction of Pete and the farewell to Jonas? *Cries*

Who I wish would have stayed till the end: Jonas! I loved him! And Jack. Or just more mentions of him, you know? He was their leader in SG1 for seven years, head of the SGC for one then boom. Its like he’s never existed (almost - I do like remembering Sam’s framed photo of him in her luggage when she moves to Atlantis). But yeah. Jonas and Jack.

Who I wish would have left the show sooner: Daniel Pete.

Who I think is the most cheated character: Janet (and Jonas). Don’t, it still hurts to talk about it. :’(

Who got more screen time than they maybe should: Daniel when he asended.

What drew me to it: A tall blonde lady beating the crap outta someone for putting her in a dress? Sign me tf up! (Yeah, Emancipation was my first ep as far as I remember.)

What kept me watching: My two besties at secondary school shipping the ever loving out of Sam/Jack. ♡♡♡ (Yes @essiedubyadee I’m blaming you and Clare. ;D) Also Sam/Jack squeeage and yeah.

If I would recommend it: 1000000000%. I know that isn’t a real number but I would recommend this show to so many people (even some non-sci fi people), because at the heart of it, its a show about four people saving the world over and over, and all the emotions connected to it all. It has drama and comedy and love and angst and a slow burn relationship that’s level (if not a bit better) than Mulder/Scully’s crap… At least MSR got to be canon, Sam/Jack has word of God and nothing more. :( But I would recommend this to anyone, because if you don’t ship like I do, there’s still amazing chemistry with everyone. ♡♡♡

Gen

Arachne’s Chase - “Sergeant, fire in short bursts. We don’t have many rounds, try to make each shot count, okay?” Sam looked him in the eyes; she was totally calm. Uncertainty had gone now; she knew what she was fighting. She wasn’t too sure on their odds of surviving, but then that wasn’t anything new. “You can do this, Sergeant.” She watched as his face set in a determined expression. It wasn’t a face suited for ferocity but she gave him credit for trying. Drama/Adventure. Sam and Walter get stuck off world trying to hold their own against giant spiders. Walter keeps freaking out and Sam just wants to get home. A good look at both Sam and Walter’s characters as well as a decently written action scene. One-shot.

Fortitude - This was written for a LJ Sam Carter Ficathon, and deals with the first mission for Sam after her encounter with Jolinar. Adventure. Sam tries to prove her mettle in the field, both to herself and her teammates. She fails to take care of herself and follow orders in the process. A good look into what must have been a trying first mission after everything that happened with Jolinar. One-shot.

Infirmary After - Sam’s turn to concentrate on breathing. Enough time passed that Janet was wondering if she’d even answer, wondering what she’d do if there was no answer. “Embarrassed,” Sam said at last, her voice too low to carry much beyond the bed. “Ashamed. Not so much that it happened - I really did get my head around that years ago, played it over and over and over until I desensitized myself to the possibility - but that they saw. That it happened in front of… of… That they’re never going to look at me again without thinking of it.” Drama. Compelling and hard-hitting, this story doesn’t need to be graphic to touch on the horror and also high likelihood of being raped in the dangerous world of SG1. The trauma is dealt with well, both from the Sam’s perspective and from the perspective of the team unable to stop it. This story should be commended for showing that a plot dealing with trauma does not need to be graphic to be shocking. One-shot.

Keeping Score - Sam is good at staying alive. Adventure. Sam remembers her past as she fights to stay alive and make it until her time finds her. One-shot.

Talking Strategy - TAG to The First Commandment. Friendship. After the death of Jonas Hansen, the guys try to get Sam to open up about her past with him and work through the funk she fell into. Some really lovely team moments in here. One-shot.

The Blue-Jello Metaphor - They were all eating Jell-O out of the long dessert glasses. She had her usual, the blue raspberry vivid and bright. The boys all had red Jell-O. She looked beyond them to the other tables. Every single person in her line of vision had red Jell-O. She glanced up at the dessert case along the food line. There sat the other glasses of blue. She knew that if she turned the other direction and looked at the other half of the cafeteria, there’d be more red Jell-O. She was the only blue. She stared down at her cup. She was always the only blue. Surrounded by a sea of red. Humor. This story gives an endearing and humorous look at a disgruntled Sam as she tries to navigate Air Force, team, and dating life as a genius scientist. I find this to be a good character sketch and really love the team dynamic portrayed. One-shot.

The Knife’s Edge of Madness - Alternate ending to Desperate Measures: What if Sam had managed to escape on her own without the team finding her? Angst/Drama. Trapped with few memories in the aftermath of Jolinar’s death, Sam finds herself sheltered in a hospital officially as a Jane Doe. While I don’t normally like stories about amnesia because the plot lines are often absurd and the handling of amnesia is almost never medically or psychologically accurate, this story manages to have a plausible explanation for the tramautic memory loss and explores several issues in memory retrieval and concepts of identity accurately and compellingly. This examination gives the reader a fascinating view of Jane coming to accept she’s Sam and relearning the whole process with her. One-shot.

The Most Wonderful - SG1 aren’t exactly where Jack wants them to be for the holidays. Gen. Set in early seasons, so it smells like original team spirit. Angst. Jack and Teal'c are left to save Sam and Daniel after they are trapped on an alien planet. Jack just wants to get home for Christmas. One-shot.

Under Fire - “She blinked up at him. “What happened?” she murmured.

“You tell me. One minute you’re doing a favorable impression of GI Jane, the next you were face-first in the dirt,” the Colonel said.“  Adventure/Drama. Carter and most of SG1 are injured offworld and have to struggle back to the gate, holding their own against three-foot, carnivorous lizards and other Jurassic threats. Set early in SG1’s history, the story explores team dynamics as well as providing a good inner monologue for Sam as she struggles to reconcile her skills and gender in a male-dominated world. The audience follows along through Sam’s POV, learning little bits and pieces about the situation as Sam does. Very good use of In Medias Res too. Overall, just a really well conceived, written, and executed story. One-shot.

Undertow - “Samantha Carter,” she managed to spit out, along with a mouthful of blood. Her tongue probed the gash inside her cheek and she was grateful to find no loose teeth. “Captain. United States Air Force. Service number 456731479 .” She couldn’t remember the question, but she knew this was the right answer – the only answer she had.“ Adventure/Hurt/Comfort. Carter and the team are captured offworld and Sam is being questioned/tortured after captors believe her to be a Goa'uld. The story is told from Sam’s POV and is as disjointed as he drugged thoughts would have been. Very well executed overall. One-shot.

Unsuspecting Universe - Two teammates alive, seven Jaffa dead. And one Captain Samantha Carter with a junked up weapon, and a glitter in her eye that boded badly for the universe. Adventure/Drama. Sam saves the team again with a McGyvered weapon and a little bit of luck. Jack is concerned that the universe will never be the same again. A fun look at Sam’s technical and tactical skills in the field. One-shot.

With Great Power - And what would you call me, a Tau'ri woman who can use the weapons of the gods? she challenged, power coursing through her until her whole body felt like static electricity was firing along every muscle and nerve fiber. No content to warn for. Adventure. BAMF!Sam has to get the boys out of trouble. The rest of the team are left to pick up the pieces, and their teammate, when it’s all over. An interesting look at the interaction between Sam and the ribbon device. One-shot.

Sam, Daniel Friendship

Eroding Away the Mountains - “If she’s learned anything over the past five years, over all the years of her life, it’s that the universe never pauses for you to catch up. Whatever happened yesterday, tomorrow will still come, because even time loops don’t last forever, and she has responsibilities that can’t be ignored. So she’ll go back to the Mountain, her lab, and a job she loves, even when it hurts.” Friendship. An exploration of Sam and Daniel’s friendships through a series of hikes. I really enjoyed that the friendship was built organically over time and that the loss of Daniel resonates with reader almost as much as it does with Sam. Bonus team interaction as well. One-shot.

Reckless - “This was the Sam that always surprised Daniel. Not the scientist or the soldier, but another person all together. Someone defined by an edge of recklessness that she normally hid underneath her levelheaded exterior.” Adventure. The gang is captured and Carter leads a minor revolt to save them. Sam-centric, but told from Daniel’s POV. This use of POV is a really creative character exploration for both Carter and Daniel. One-shot.

West - They gave her food and water and drew her a map to the city of Reata far away, where perhaps she could find the men she sought. “Stargate. Chapa Hi?” she said, so perhaps it was a farewell. “Chapa Hi,” they said in return, and sent Thaywood-ware-thees on her way with their best wishes. Adventure. Seperated from her team, Carter is stranded offworld where she doesn’t speak the language. She travels from town to town, continually getting sent further west, in search of her team and the Stargate. One-shot. Story is deleted! 

Sam, Teal'c Friendship

A Star At Dawn - While rescuing natives from a threatening volcano, SG-1 is caught in an avalanche. Angst/Drama. Teal'c is buried and Sam is injured. It’ll take both of them working together to live through the night. A welcome look at the friendship and bond between Sam and Teal'c, especially in the wake of losing Daniel and O'neill. One-shot.

The Working Hour - “I suppose you think I’m pretty weak.”

Teal’c looked up and realized she been watching him watching her. He shook his head. “No. I do not think you are weak. You have a warrior’s heart and a quick brain. You fought well, and you prevailed. That is not weak.” Adventure. Set early Season 1, Carter and Teal'c are stranded offworld and injured. Cue Carter being badass and Teal'c trying to reconcile his past as Apophis’ First Prime and his new role on the team and coming to trust a woman. I really enjoyed the writing style and the interaction between Sam and Teal'c. One-shot.

Sam/Janet (yay for underappreciated ships!)

Ten-Thousand Suns - Sam is trapped in the rubble after an earthquake collapses a building on an alien world. Hurt/Comfort. Janet and a team of specialists try to keep Sam alive long enough to free her from the rubble. For her part, Sam is just trying to keep it together as she fights for her life and fights for the realization of those that she loves. Featuring underappreciated ships that actually make a lot of cannon sense and ascended!Daniel. One-shot.

Jack/Sam

Camelot Episode Tag - What was Sam thinking at the end of Camelot? And what happened next? Sci-fi/Angst. The story follows Sam directly after the Ori arrive through the supergate and her recovery from free-floating in space. Bonus Married!jack/sam. One-shot.

Going Under - Set in Season 3. SG1 visit an alient planet, but their attempts at a meet and greet go wrong. Captured, seperated from the Colonel and under dire threat, they must find Jack and make their escape. Team fic, with S/J elements, but strictly within canon. Adventure. A planet-of-the-week story featuring BAMF!Sam, awesome team dynamics, and some hinted Jack/Sam. This story handled the adventurous and perilous atmosphere along with the friendship and working relationship of the team. Complete.

Patience - Patience may be a virtue, but it can also get you killed. Hurt/Comfort/Drama. Things have been tense between Jack and Carter lately and Jack suggests some time off for the overworked scientist. When Carter doesn’t show up to work the next day, Jack figures she took him up on his offer. Little does the team know that Sam is trapped in her car just outside Cheyenne Mountain. A story with Sam in peril and Sam getting herself out of peril. Also hints of Jack/Sam. One-shot.

Remember Days of Gladness When Sorrow is at Hand - “For the thousandth time that week, Sam felt her eyes prick with tears. You wouldn’t know it by looking at them, but all three of her guys could be ridiculously sweet sometimes.” S8 post-Threads fic. Canon S/J with a side of teamy goodness. Friendship/Romance. Carter is still grieving over the loss of her father and still coming down from defeating the replicators. Her team surprises early one morning with helping hands to give her the dream home she always wanted. Jack and Sam also have some nice, if awkward, conversations. One-shot.

Three Wishes - Mistaken for a genie, bashed on the head and captured along with Sam, Jack wakes up with wishes in mind… Friendship/Adventure. Poor Jack is just trying to get through their latest missions, and Sam is just trying to get both of them home. Fun Jack/Sam friendship and/or pre-relationship. One-shot.

Tumbling Down - “Hours later, Sam is leaning against the window, letting the cool glass leach the heat from her face, with Cam’s hand resting lightly on her left thigh. Across the booth Daniel is slumped back, third cup of coffee in his hand and Vala draped half-asleep against him… Atlantis is wonderful and it’s the command step her career needs, but sometimes she misses her team so much it hurts. She doesn’t known if it’s better or worse to know they’re still exploring the universe together without her.” Friendship/Romance. An episode!tag for SGA Trio. Sam returns Earth to heal after breaking her leg in the Pegasus Galaxy, her team and Jack take care of their injured teammate. Sam revisits some memories of her time on SG-1 and muses on the life - and relationships - she built and left behind. One-shot.

Also an improvement upon the blandness of the first season; it takes longer than most shows do to find the right groove, and I still wouldn’t consider it something I’d recommend to others so much as I wouldn’t discourage them from watching it, but it’s angling in the right direction, at the least.

MORE INFO (and potential spoilers) under the cut:

Well. They really committed to proving my point about the dearth of guest female characters, huh? Twenty-six to sixty-eight, for shame. It’s not the worst I’ve seen, but that’s not a compliment. And even with an extra lady around for half the season, they didn’t manage to make a notable improvement upon their numbers. The improvement is all in the personal assessment on this one, it seems.

Credit where it’s due; there is non-statistical improvement, not just in the overall show quality but also in the handling of its characters and thus, the stories they tell. As much as it seems like a given that characters become more rounded as the story continues, that’s certainly not always the way it goes - sometimes, a character is essentially a gimmick for which the writers have no long term plan, so once they’ve fulfilled their original purpose they’re kinda just...around, not having any more personal stories or developments. Sometimes a formerly-important character will get downgraded to relative insignificance due to behind-the-scenes conflicts. Sometimes the writers come up with totally ridiculous plot ideas that require a character to behave wildly different, or to regress in their development, or they realise they bit off more than they could chew trying to make the character complex in the beginning, and so they simplify, dropping extraneous details, whittling the character down to something more manageable and 2D. The first season of Leverage did not do much to build its characters up (other than Nate), so I had prepped myself for disappointment in season two. I wouldn’t say I was elated at what I got instead, but it wasn’t disappointing, at the very least.

It feels a little like a be-careful-what-you-wish-for scenario with Sophie, since I kept on petitioning for her to get a story of her own and then, oops, she left to ‘find herself’. To be honest, while this is certainly Sophie handling a plot development that is about herself for once, the fact that it takes place almost completely off-screen means that we, the audience, don’t experience Sophie’s side of it, and so for us as viewers it’s...kinda just another plot that Nate and co have to deal with, rather than being Sophie’s Thing. And while that’s alright as far as things go with the rest of the team being Sophie’s cute friends, the main interaction we have with Sophie’s absence is, yup, still via Nate and his whinging. So, I’m still waiting for Sophie to actually get a story of her own (plus we’ll have to wait and see what developments do or do not come out of her soul-searching, because if she just goes back to the way things were before, that’s not character development, folks, that’s character stagnation. It’s character stalling). 

On the plus side, Tara is one of the better examples I’ve seen of a short-term character being introduced into central status and then packed off again once the person they were replacing returns from the ether. It’s generally a pretty dodgy move; the new character feels out-of-place and takes ages to settle in (if they settle in at all), and/or the story totally bungles things when disposing of the replacement later, especially if the newbie has settled in and become an enjoyable part of the dynamic only to be unceremoniously booted (excuse me...my Stargate SG1 salt is resurfacing with a vengeance). Changes to the status quo on tv are pretty much always polarising, especially cast changes, and whether you love a temporary lead or hate them, you’re almost definitely left in the aftermath wondering why the fuck the showrunners thought that plot contrivance was a good idea/the best way to handle a cast-related issue. That Tara’s introduction was quality, her continued presence organic and enjoyable, and her eventual departure solidly understandable within the narrative? Pretty miraculous, to be honest. I may not be big on the Sophie side of things, but at least they did VERY right by Tara. 

Notably, that still leaves us with no clear commentary from me in regards to Parker, and I’m inclined to stay with that until they FINALLY give her something more substantial to work with. I like her, she’s cool, she’s fun, she has a nice relationship with Eliot and Hardison and the three of them working jobs with the rest of the characters on second string is the best format the show has, but Parker’s characterisation is still at a point of vagueness that leaves me unsure of what commentary there could be in the first place. She was raised in foster care and it was a bad time. She’s a bit weird. That’s not exactly a definitive character outline. So, while I am enjoying her, I’m also hoping to get a clearer picture of what she’s all about, and I’ll be perfectly happy to get a clearer idea of Eliot and Hardison’s lives right along with it. The two of them are definitely more clearly drawn at present (no doubt due in large part to them being by all appearances neurotypical), but all three are sitting as the show’s greatest untapped resource at the moment, and it’s time that changed. Nate bores me to tears, when he’s not makin’ me tear my figurative hair out in frustration; gimme something else, show. Gimme more. I want to tell those persons who recommended this show to me that I’m glad for it.

Billie headcanon: SG1

At some point in her first Shattered Grid verse, Billie gets her own ranger team under her command, but they act mostly as bodyguards and scouts for her. She has no real requirements other than their willingness to protect her. She came up with this idea after some of LD’s disgruntled sentries tried to kill her, and managed to convince him it was a good idea. It’s also a way for her to save some ranger lives, though not ever captured ranger is on board with this idea; many don’t seem to understand Billie’s real reasons.

And if anyone’s curious, the scenario might have gone something like this: (as inspired by a current thread with @merveiilles )

“What happened to you, and why is that time force ranger with you?”

“His name is Trip, and he’s my first pet ranger.”

“Your...what?” Drakkon’s lips quirked in a rare smirk.

“My pet ranger. You did tell me I could have one. But I had a better idea.”

“Go on.”

“Well, on the last scouting mission, a couple of your sentries disobeyed my orders and were probably on the verge of trying to kill me-”

“They what?” No one liked Lord Drakkon when he was angry, though he was honestly not really liked at all. Feared, yes. Respected, yes. Liked? Well, probably only Billie liked him.

Poor Trip was cowering behind Billie at this point.

“Exactly what I said. Which led me to the conclusion that I need my own ranger team to conduct scouting missions for you and act as my bodyguards. I might even learn some useful things from them.”

“How can he act as your guard when he’s cowering behind you?”

“He might be cowering behind me, but that also means he’s watching my back. Besides, everyone in their right mind is afraid of you and you like it that way.”

“That’s true, but it’s much better when they scream and grovel.”

Of course poor Trip was not happy to hear this-not happy at all-but he managed to keep himself mostly composed.

“Anyway, I figured that you could just as easily kill and replace any sentry that countermanded my orders and tried something funny, but it’s not very efficient. I know killing is enjoyable for you, but I value you enough to want you to use your superior abilities for someone or something that’s worth it.”

“Is this your way of saving his life?” Lord Drakkon was no fool. He knew that while Billie was dark, perhaps even a little twisted, she wasn’t evil. Jaded, one for revenge, yes, but not evil.

“Only partly. The primary purpose is for them to watch my back so you don’t have to concern yourself with it 24/7. I do enjoy your company, but I’m sure you need a break from me prattling on about things every once in a while. Besides, you know I don’t like your filmings for ‘The Torture Hour’.”

Lord Drakkon gave an exaggerated sigh. “Fine, I accept your proposal.Any rangers who agree to serve on your team will remain unharmed. The rest...”

“Yes, I know. Come on Trip; I want to show you my itching powder blaster.”

“Your what?”

“You’ll see.”
