Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader

Summary: Jay comes home early to find out that Y/N was injured while he was away.

Word Count: 1,053

Warnings: canon-typical mentions of injuries, fluff!

JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST

There were two loud raps on the door and you looked up. You felt a wave of annoyance pass through you - you had literally just gotten comfortable.

You gritted your teeth as you pulled yourself off the couch again, jostling your arm that was lying in a sling in front of you, heading to the door and muttering to yourself about how if it was Casey or Severide again, you’d kill them.

You’d gotten injured on a call over something ridiculously dumb but dumb as it was, you’d gotten hurt anyway. It wasn’t major, at least according to Will, although the pain was another story.

It wasn’t really anyone’s fault because no one would have known the floor would have given way, but that didn’t stop your truck lieutenant from feeling guilty. To top it all off, Jay was away for a case in New York, so Casey and Severide seemed to take it upon themselves personally to check in on you and make sure everything was okay.

You swung open your door. “Guys, I told you I’m fine, you don’t have to…” Your voice trailed off.

“Jay?” You asked, your voice surprised. You hadn’t been expecting your boyfriend for at least another week.

Jay stood at the door, the smile you’d fallen in love with plastered all over his face, before his eyes flicked to your hand in the sling, his expression freezing and his smile fading.

Like an instinct, you jerked your hand backwards like you wanted to hide it from his view but a sharp pain tore through your arm and you scrunched up your face in pain, swallowing down the groan of pain.

“Y/N!” Jay practically leaped forward, barging his way into your apartment and closing the door behind him with his foot before he led you over to your own couch. “Let me see.”

You let Jay lead you back over to the couch and he perched next to you as he examined your arm. You weren’t sure he even knew what he was doing but you figured he’d dealt with enough injuries of his own and if it helped him to worry less, there’d be no harm in it.

You watched the minute change in his expressions, the way his eyebrows came together and then moved apart, the way his mouth twitched and finally, the way his green eyes dragged along the length of your arm before they flicked up to meet yours.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Jay’s voice asked, almost accusingly.

You sighed. This was exactly the kind of situation you had wanted to avoid. Jay had always been a little protective, a good protective. It wasn’t like he restricted you from doing what you wanted to do, including your career choice, he just got all worried and protective when you got hurt. Which was why you hadn’t mentioned it when he had called.

Jay hadn’t been due home yet so you figured that the injury would have mainly healed by the time he got home, which would avoid him getting all upset and worried about it. A plan that was now ruined and which made you feel worse because you could feel how upset he was, now probably mixed in with hurt that you hadn’t told him.

“You were away. I didn’t want to worry you.” The words sounded lame now coming out of your mouth and you sighed again.

Jay glanced up at you. “You still should have told me.”

There was a silence as the accusation hung in the air. “Jay, you know you wouldn’t have been able to do anything from where you were. And I wasn’t going to let you hightail it back over a dumb fracture.”

Jay looked back up at you, his eyes narrowing a little.

“Come on, you really going to be mad at me over this when you’re back and I’m injured?” You asked, dragging your voice out and making a face at him.

Jay exhaled loudly. “You know that’s not fair.”

You shrugged. “I know. But it still works right?”

Jay rolled his eyes but put an arm around your shoulders, gently pulling you into his arms while trying not to jostle you too much before he pressed a kiss to your hair. “Who did you think was at the door?” Jay asked now.

You laughed. “Casey. Or Severide. I think they assume I’m going to starve to death or something. Or die alone here.”

Jay gave you a disapproving look about the joke and you smiled. “It’s not a major injury. Call Will if you don’t believe me. He’s the one that put me in the cast.”

“Oh I will call him, alright.” Jay playfully growled.

You elbowed him gently with your good arm. “I asked him not to tell you.”

“I didn’t say anything.” Jay answered defensively.

You gave him a look. “Yeah, and I don’t know what goes on in your head.”

Jay smiled, just as your expression dropped.

“Y/N?” Jay sat up straighter.

You looked up and shook your head. “The painkillers are on the counter.” You answered, which was enough to let Jay know the pain was back.

Jay got off the couch as quickly as he could without jostling you and came back with a glass of water and the pills, which you quickly swallowed, before you looked back at his worried face.

“Jay.” You warned. “This is normal. Will said it would take a few weeks at the very least.”

Jay sighed. “What can I do?”

You smiled. “There’s the spirit. I just want to cuddle.”

Jay let out a small laugh. “Oh that I can most definitely do. I got the next week off, at least.”

“For all your hard work in New York?” You teased.

Jay smiled back and pressed a kiss to your lips gently. “And for being away.”

You spent the rest of the night curled up under Jay’s arm, and it didn’t matter that there was a crappy movie playing on the television. Even the throb of your arm didn’t bother you as much, not while you were wrapped securely into him, his hands playing with your hair or rubbing your back gently.

“I’m glad you’re home.” You whispered.

Jay just pressed his lips to the top of your head gently.

A/N: This could have been interpreted in a few ways but this was what hit me so I went with it, hope it isn’t too far from what you wanted!

MATT CASEY MASTERLIST

“Are they dead?”

The three words had been clanging in his head ever since he’d gotten the call from the hospital - when he’d been talking to Boden, when they’d taken everyone off service for a bit, as Kelly stood next to him in the waiting room, casting glances at him.

So those were the first words out of his mouth when Will came out into the waiting room.

Kelly shot him a worried glance before he looked back at Will.

“Matt, they’re okay.” Will paused, as he watched the expression on Matt’s face change. “Y/N has a few fractured ribs and a punctured lung but they’re all okay.”

Matt took a shaky breath, just glad his worst fear hadn’t come true. “Come on, I’ll take you to them.”

Matt glanced at Kelly, who nodded and followed him through while everyone else waited.

“Daddy!” The twins catapulted their way into his arms the moment they saw him and Matt just held them close, before his eyes flicked to you.

Kelly patted his shoulder. “I’ll take them.”

“Hey guys, how about we go get some snacks?” Kelly asked, the twins glancing at their father who nodded before they ran towards Kelly.

You were smiling by the time Matt made it to your bedside.

“Matt, I’m okay.” You whispered. “Just a little sore but Connor said it’s to be expected.”

Matt sighed, leaning closer towards you, putting a hand gently at the top of your head. “When I got the call, I thought…”

“We’re fine.” You reassured again, knowing just by the look in his eyes that he’d been really scared.

Matt pressed a kiss to your forehead as he closed his eyes, once again glad that his worst fears hadn’t come true.

Sam rolled his eyes slightly as he watched his brother’s eyes follow your movements around the diner.

“Dean, you’re being borderline creepy by the way.” Sam said, without looking up from his computer. Dean didn’t even seem to hear him.

“More coffee?” You asked as you approached their table, your eyes sweeping over the attractive guy that you knew had been watching you since he sat down.

Sam discreetly angled his research on monsters away from your view as you poured the coffee. “You have to excuse my brother. He’s…”

Dean didn’t let him finish. “You come here often?”

You raised an eyebrow as your lips ticked up into a smile. “Well, considering I work here, yes.”

There was an awkward silence. You could feel his brother’s secondhand embarrassment practically emanating out of him and you leaned forward.

“By the way, if you’re here about the case - it’s most definitely a vengeful spirit.” You whispered to Dean, slipping him a piece of paper with the names of the dead girls you’d collected for the past few days.

Dean’s eyes widened as he blinked back at you and you smiled. “I can spot a hunter a mile away. Especially the cute ones.”

You winked before you headed back towards the back of the diner.

“Did you just… hit on a hunter?” Sam asked.

Dean glanced at Sam, before his eyes flicked back to the door which you’d disappeared behind. “Hunter, waitress, whatever. I think she’s the one.”

“Stella.”

Stella turned back around to glance at Kelly with a slightly exasperated look on her face.

“Stop moving and let me braid your hair.” Kelly said, his fingers tangled in her hair.

Stella narrowed her eyes from where she was sitting on the floor in front of the couch. “Why?”

Kelly reached forward, letting go of her hair for a moment and putting a gentle hand on Stella’s belly which was already showing.

“So I can braid hers.”

Stella couldn’t help the small smile that flitted across her face when she finally realized where Kelly was going with this and why he’d been so annoying about doing her hair today.

“That’s what this is about?” Stella asked, looking up at her husband now, all trace of exasperation and annoyance gone.

Kelly just smiled.

“I’m not sure how I feel about already being second place.” Stella teased.

“Who said anything about second place?” Kelly asked immediately, his fingers now no longer tangled in her hair but just resting at the back of her head.

Stella smiled. “She’s not even here and I’m already the guinea pig?”

Kelly chuckled, his fingers running across Stella’s cheek before resting alongside her face.

“My girls are always in first place.” Kelly whispered, emphasizing on the plural before he leaned forward to press his lips against Stella’s. Stella’s lips turned up into a smile against Kelly’s, and he smiled as well.

“Now, will you let me braid your hair? Please?” Kelly asked, pulling away just a little.

Stella laughed, turning back around, smiling as she felt Kelly’s fingers run through her hair.

Sylvie looked at her watch, starting to get worried.

Matt was seldom late and even if he was he’d usually call. Sylvie took out her phone again to check, scrolling through her messages and call logs to make sure she’d gotten the time right and that he hadn’t sent her a message that he was going to be late.

Sylvie put her phone up to ear to try to call Matt again but his phone was still off. She’d tried to call Stella slightly earlier but both Stella and Kelly had seen Matt leave the loft at least an hour ago which meant that he should have been here by now.

With a concerted effort, Sylvie pushed all the other what-if scenarios out of her head. She’d at least wait a little while longer before she’d go to look for him. He was probably just delayed by something.

Just as she was about to set off for Molly’s to see if anyone had seen him, she saw him.

Matt.

The relief washed over Sylvie to see him jogging towards her before her breath caught in her throat.

“Sylvie, I’m sorry… I…”

But Sylvie couldn’t process anything past the dark patch of red across Matt’s abdomen.

“Is that blood?” Sylvie asked, her eyes still on the patch of red.

Matt could see the look in her eyes. “Yes but that doesn’t matter right now, what does matter is-“

Sylvie shot him a look. “You are literally bleeding. Let me see.”

Matt reached forward for Sylvie’s hands as she reached out for him. “Sylvie, look at me.”

Reluctantly, she raised her head to look at Matt, tearing her eyes away from what looked like a terrifying injury.

“I’m fine. This isn’t my blood.”

Sylvie felt the knot in her stomach release. “Not your… You’re okay?”

Matt smiled and nodded, squeezing her hand. “Yes, I’m fine. There was an accident on my way here and then my phone kind of died…” He fished out his phone from his pocket, showing Sylvie the cracked and unresponsive screen.

Sylvie just reached forward, throwing her arms around him, not even slightly bothered by the fact that he had someone else’s blood on him, just relieved that he was okay.

“I look a mess but there were so many things going on, I couldn’t find a phone but I knew you’d be worried so I just ran here anyway.” Matt said, even as he put his arms gently around Sylvie.

Sylvie shook her head, pulling away now to look at him. “We don’t need a fancy date or anything. I’m just glad you’re okay.”

Matt nodded. “I promise, not even a scratch.”

“Come on, we better get you home.” Sylvie said, her lips turning up into a smile as she looked at Matt again, now that she knew the blood wasn’t his. “You look like you were involved in a massacre.”

Matt just smiled and Sylvie hooked her arm into his, walking close to him, glad they’d met at a restaurant near her apartment. Matt turned his head just slightly to plant a kiss on the top of her head.

“Where the hell is it?” Adam muttered to himself, thumbing through the shirts hanging in the closet that he and Kim now shared.

Adam glanced at his watch. He was already going to be late so giving up on the search for the shirt he’d wanted to wear, he grabbed another shirt and headed out the door.

It wasn’t so much that he’d planned to wear that particular shirt, it was just that he’d been wondering where it had gone to, really.

It was two hours later when he opened the door home that he solved the mystery of his missing shirt.

Makayla was sitting in the middle of the living room, fiddling with one of her toys. “Hi, Adam!”

Adam smiled, ruffling her hair gently as a greeting. “Heya kiddo, where’s Kim?”

The question was barely out of his mouth when Kim stepped out from the kitchen. “Makyala, let’s get ready for dinner.”

“Okay!” She got up immediately, heading to the bathroom to wash her hands as Adam turned to look at Kim.

His eyebrows ticked up. “Is that my shirt?”

Kim barely even blinked. “You mean our shirt?”

Adam couldn’t help the laugh that escaped his lips. “You know, I’ve been looking for that.” Adam said, going straight up to Kim, and pulling her towards him.

Kim laughed. “Remember you said it looks good on me?”

Adam smirked. “Well, there’s that… but you know what looks better on you?”

Kim laughed, reaching out a hand to push Adam away just a little. “Shut up. Makayla will be out in a minute.”

Adam smiled, leaning forward and pressing a kiss to Kim’s lips.

Kim smiled against his touch. “I’ll give it back tonight.” She whispered, the smile still plastered on her face when Makayla came charging out of the bathroom and towards the dinner table.
