question as i'm still fairly new (ok one year now but thats new compared to some of these vets) to the tumblr hp fandom...why do people hate canon pairings so much? like...bellamort? rema/dora? hinny? ji|y? is it just because they prefer other concepts?
bc like to me; bellatrix & voldemort is such a fun concept - an affair first of all between a married pureblood witch and a half blood no body who rose to infamy, a huge age gap between a student and teacher relationship turned into a life long affair, a man who everyone thinks can't love but shows so much preference to this one witch, who is rarely seen without her.
rema/dora is also really fun to think about. the werewolf who says its not in his nature to breed, who's lonely but finds the attention of a half blood auror who falls in love with him, the idea he can't deny himself of her, that he's madly in love with her but knows because of his affliction he can't be with her and still dies hand in hand with her.
hinny is so cute - the best friend's sister who used to have a crush on harry when she was a little kid and now it's the other way around and he can't think of anything but her soft red hair and her eyes and it takes all his self control at every given moment not to kiss her.
ji|y is cute too even though they're my least favourite marauders - the arrogant pureblood boy and the mouthy feisty mudblood. he's mad for her and she thinks he's gross until something in them changes and he matures enough to show her he's a good person really.
idk...why do people not like them? they're really well written and have a LOT of potential to explore in fan fics and other media?

Rem/adora AU where it’s a giant prank and Sirius is in on it, but it very nearly becomes a catastrophe because Regulus was straight up about to kill Remus for breaking his brother’s heart and Sirius has to frantically explain to his brother that this is all a prank.
HI YES I NEED FIC ABOUT THIS IMMEDIATELY

not to hate post or talk abt h@rry p*tter but can i just say that rema/dora is one of the few ships that genuinely pisses me off.
not only is it an obvious attempt by rowling to stop people from shipping remus and sirius, it also sticks two queercoded characters into a heteronormative, child rearing relationship. in fact, as soon as tonks (read: rowling) decides that she is in love with him, suddenly she becomes traditionally feminine after having somewhat been on the genderfluid spectrum in the last book.
not to mention that remus' lycanthropy is apparently meant to be allegory for aids, which is usually associated with the gay community.
he and sirius also have a close, intense relationship that the directors of the movies assumed to be romantic in nature (david thewlis was actually told to act "like a gay junkie")
of course, all of this is a big ass problem, but another problem that most people don't talk about the huge fucking age gap between them.
remus is thirteen years older than tonks. in hogwarts mystery, you meet remus as a whole adult in chiara lobosca's quest, and tonks is a main student. as in, she's a fucking student when remus has been an adult for years.
also, this is just speculation, but sirius was close to andromeda and ted, so what if remus and the murauders had actually meant baby tonks? suddenly, not so wholesome.
another problem is how ooc the ship makes both characters. a lot of people tend to say that if you have to twist both the characters to make a ship work, then it shouldnt be shipped. so how does this make them ooc?
tonks was a fun loving, spunky, and bright character in ootp. suddenly in hbp shes sullen and depressed because she loves remus but he wont get with her. yeah, people have multiple sides to them, but why is her biggest character trait suddenly being upset over a man?
meanwhile, remus in dh is just atrocious. the scene where he tries to abandon tonks and teddy is absolutely crazy and wild to me, because? he wouldnt do that.
lets not even mention how remus is pressured into the relationship after dumbledore dies. he seems completely uncomfortable and uninterested but molly tells him to not miss on this chance.
remus literally never seems like he loves tonks either, and tonks' "love" is completely forced by the author.
anyways, sorry about the rant, but i've seen some things and am pissed off.

And for the question game how about 1 ans 2? :)
Thank you!!
1. What OTPs in your fandoms) do you just not get?
Rema/dora makes me want to eat my own shoe I’m so sorry to those who like them please tag it😩
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only
BroTP?
This isn’t to say I couldn’t be convinced, because I could, but James and Sirius’ friendship is so important to me. They’re the epitome of platonic soulmates for me. 🥲❤️

@helix-eagle-hourglass-nebula replied to your post “Eughhhhh  I just have a thought If we are currently in the same year...”
The ages are accurate. Lupin was 12 years older then Tonks. It does make it worse since they make Snape look like 40 and he is meant to be the same sge
Y I K E S S S S
Honestly, I never thought of Rema///dora being anything other than bland and boring in series but now I just find the whole ship creepy and gross

cho/fleur, ginny/fleur, & padma/luna?
the brutally honest ship opinions game
cho/fleur: Not my most-favorite ship for either of them, but I love it and I mean?? Let’s add Lavender and have a, “canon lady characters who got unfairly shit on by the fandom but you can’t even really be mad at fandom because JKR unfairly shit on them in the books and acted like it was okay because Cho is so ~emotional~ (……like Harry and Hermione aren’t???) with her dumb girly feelings, and Fleur is ~so pretty and feminine~ (……uh huuuh. like Molly, Lily, Minerva, Ginny, and Hermione don’t exemplify other common feminine archetypes, in their own ways, and like Lily and Ginny aren’t both regularly portrayed as being gorgeous), and Lavender is ~ugh so emotional~ and so ~girly~ and so stupid for being a teenage girl (………uh huh, right, like YOU were never a teenage girl and most of your readers are not teenage girls, Joanne)” OT3 party
ginny/fleur: Ehhhh? It’s cute, I guess, and it has potential, but I personally have a lot of trouble overlooking the way that Ginny treated Fleur in HBP for literally no reason beyond, “Fleur exists, Fleur is more conventionally feminine and conventionally pretty than Ginny (who is both feminine and pretty, so wtf???), Fleur is dating/engaged to Bill, and Molly bags on Fleur constantly while implying that Bill needs to break up with her and get with Tonks when neither Bill nor Tonks has any canonical romantic or sexual interest in each other — which absolutely smacks of, ‘ewww, get the evil LGBTQ-ness out of my alleged found family!!!’ in Tonks’ case, because up until JKR pulled the Rema//dora ‘no homo! never homo! get that icky gay shit off of my nice hetero books!!! :)))’ carpet out from under our feet at the end of HBP, Tonks struck me personally as being Hella Gay — which must mean it’s okay for Ginny to be a shit to Fleur, too”
Like, yes, Hermione also got in on it, but Ginny was consistently the one who started the, “let’s bag on Fleur because it’s okay to hate other girls for being a girl in different ways from your own” game when it wasn’t actually Molly doing the thing and Hermione just went along with it. Which wasn’t cool, either, but makes it clear, to me, that Hermione is projecting other insecurities onto the situation while Ginny does seem to have some kind of personal Thing with Fleur — and if the, “lol he only pulls on your pigtails bc he likes you!!” thing isn’t good for m/f couples, then it’s not good for m/m or f/f couples, either
Which is a perfectly fine basis for a ship…… as long as it’s acknowledged that this is going on and NOT treated as if it’s okay bc ~lol ginny just sucks at flirting!!~ (which?? is canonically inaccurate??? like, come on, Harry is the one between the two of them who sucks at flirting; Ginny is the one telling him to quit trying so hard and just snog her before he hurts himself) or as if it’s cute and romantic because they’re both girls. Which, sadly, a lot of Fleur/Ginny doesn’t seem to do — but tbf that’s a very qualified statement since there isn’t a lot of Fleur/Ginny to begin with
—and, like? One of the only fics I’ve ever seen of them was one of those, “Character A is stuck-up and pompous and skinny, so Character B does a thing to punish them by making them gain weight because lmao being fat is Bad and a curse and a punishment” fics that are wicked shitty about both consent and fatphobia — also misogyny and sapphophobia, in this case, since that fic was skeevy af about objectifying both Ginny and Fleur, especially wrt Ginny’s “kinda crushy, but kinda hate-y” feels about Fleur
—and even if other Ginny/Fleur fics aren’t that great at really dealing with Ginny’s canon treatment of Fleur, they’re probably already miles better than that one
luna/padma: Not my most-favorite ship for either of them, and on the, “I ship it” scale, it’s not as high as most ships I have with either, but it very definitely has potential, and they could be adorable nerds together

Had the Rem/adora prank been on Sirius too, there’s no way Remus would’ve survived. Honestly, Regulus and Andromeda still might’ve killed him even if he did explain it was a prank, because Sirius did temporarily have his heart broken and that just can’t stand
Oh yeah there's no way Remus would have pulled a prank like that and not informed Sirius ahead of time. Remus will do a lot of things for a prank, but hurting Sirius is not one of them! And if he had, he would be dead within 5 minutes.

Tonks, when Regulus gives her a list of wealthy and influential men she can marry instead of Remus now that both she and Sirius will be widows in about 10 minutes: So all those stories I heard in school about how my mother’s family is completely deranged we’re all true?
Andromeda: Yes, darling. Now, I think you and Sirius should exit the room, I think witnessing the cheater’s death might bother the two of you so just clear out for a bit
Unfortunately, Sirius is cackling right now and has not yet caught his breath, but he does manage to gasp out an explanation in between laughs, so Remus lives.
LMAO Regulus and Andromeda coming up with a list of powerful, influential men for both Tonks and Sirius to marry once Remus is disposed of is delightful. 😂
Good thing Sirius is in on the prank and saves Remus's life!

Regulus and Andromeda heard Remus broke Sirius’s heart and married Sirius’s cousin, started plotting his murder while coming up with a list of suitable husbands for them to later marry, and headed straight off to Remus’s. This all took place within like 10 minutes, they’re very efficient and also have extremely dubious morality.
a;lkdj;fajf I love that they did all this in ten minutes, YES, that's exactly how it would go. They're so efficient that Sirius has barely enough time to intervene before they kill his husband lmao.

Not sure if I sent this or not because I’m tired, but Remadora Prank AU desperately needs to have that scene where one character is absolutely furious and barges into another’s home and is followed by another character who very obviously rushed over. Regulus goes over to Remus and Tonks, fully planning to murder Remus for breaking Sirius’s heart, and Sirius just barely goes over in time to explain that it’s a prank and it is so obvious he barely avoided splinching himself when he apparated over. Even funnier if Andromeda is also over there and she’s just as upset because really, Dora, I did not raise you to steal someone’s husband but especially not a cousin’s husband, think of how awkward the family dinners will be now. It’s a Black family reunion and Remus barely avoids getting killed because Regulus is just frothing at the mouth in rage that his brother’s hurt and Andromeda also wants to kill Remus because a) Sirius is her cousin and she does love him and b) she sure as hell won’t trust Remus with her daughter’s heart of if he can do this to Sirius
HI YES I NEED ALL OF THIS, PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

Rem/adora prank AU should also mean that Remus is getting the psychic equivalent of a one-hit Knock Out the second Andromeda says that “I did not raise you to steal your cousin’s husband, I raised you to do the exact opposite actually. Why couldn’t you start an affair with a man who’s married to someone that isn’t family? Think of the family dinners, how are you and Sirius going to sit at the same table when you’re married to the man who’d been his husband yesterday?” Andromeda and Regulus brush right over the actual cheating that presumably had been going on, they’re solely concerned with the fact that this breaks Sirius’s heart, because it seems the Blacks’ dubious morality also extends to affairs, which is such a wild revelation to have. They’re not upset over the actual fact that Tonks was having an affair, they’re upset that it’s Sirius’s husband she’s having the affair with. Remus can’t really focus on that aspect, what with the fact that Andromeda and Regulus genuinely want his head on a platter, but he’s definitely going to be thinking of that later, once things have calmed down and explanations have occurred and the adrenaline and fear have worn off
Okay but Regulus goes to her with a list of rich, well-connected, married men who are not family and is like "Honestly, this is a rookie mistake, you completely missed an opportunity here to really have some fun and also gain some political capital in the future" and Tonks is like. oh boy.
