Well as you can imagine, the David Jenkins IG is the big news of today. The clowning forecast has gone up significantly. Dad posted one of the late-blooming SaveOFMD banners in NY and attached Elton John - Candle In The Wind to the post. This song has some very specific significance to our fandom.

NOW OF COURSE, we are all clowning, but I think as usual Chaos Dad is trying to give us info without giving us info since the fandom pays so much attention to every little detail.

Alrighty lovelies. It's been another busy day. Lots of clowning, lots of hope, lots of emotional roller coasters. I hope you had a good time and generally it was more positive than negative. I have a lot I want to say, but my brain is still pretty foggy. So I'll make this short.

Sometimes when things go well, our brain gets excited and then they overcompensate when we calm down. It starts to think a lot more negatively because it had so much extra dopamine for a time. When that happens, little things can be really devastating. I just want you to remember that we all make mistakes and YOU, you beautiful imperfect being are not your mistakes. They hurt, and we learn from them, but they don't define us. Try not to listen to your brain if it's telling you otherwise. You are so very wonderful.

Anyway, I hope that makes sense.

Here's a picture I found today I thought really applied to all you wonderful people. Thank you to all the folks who reached out to me and checked in and sent me love when you knew I was struggling (there are too many to list and I don't know if you want to be tagged so please just know how much I appreciate you). I love you all so much, and I'm so lucky to how found people who make me feel like it's ok to be me.

lately i've been finding it so so hard to be positive and hopeful. and it's making me so bitter and hateful. i hate it but i dont know what to do about it

#idk it's just all too much to deal w #i have sm pains and physical discomforts. money issues. stress bc my avpd is making school very hard for me to finish #i have suicidal thoughts and really bad anxiety every single day. i've basically begged the mental health care system for help for 7 months #like i've kept contacting them and asking them but they havent done anything at all for me. i dont even get to see anyone and talk #i just dont know what to do or how to handle it #im so stressed abt the future. i have to finish school but then choose smth so i can go to school/get a degree & get a job #im holding my mom down and back and i need to find a way to kove out from her and support myself #i have no friends to meet or hangout with and destress with etc etc and im really feeling the lack of it #idk the list just goes on and on and on #nothing is working and idk how to fix it. but also i know that me and only me have to find a way bc there is no help #i struggle bc of my avpd and mental health but there is no treatment for me to get. they just dont wanna give me *any* help at all #im just so frustrated. and every day is the same. everyday is full of some physical pain anxiety stress worries suicidal thoughts etc etc #i cant break free idk how!!!! my life is so fkn boring and pathetic and miserable #i never get to relax bc all of a sudden last year i got extremely noise sensitive. and it's never quiet anywhere in this city #anyway yeah i could just keep going. and like now im feeling anxious bc my tooth is aching :(( #it -everything- never stops or lets up or relents. and it makes me wanna die even more. #so... idk im just incapable of being hopeful abt anything and that's really killing me idk

there's something so dismal about how so much of tv fandom's energy nowadays seems to go towards trying to prove to big corporations that their show is good enough to save. like whenever a new episode or series comes out it's "remember to watch it all in 24 hours or it won't get renewed!" "play it on repeat for a month or else it'll become another piece of lost media!" "don't stop talking and posting about it during the hiatus or else this season that's already in production might not air!" "if this tag trends on twitter for long enough we might get eight episodes instead of six!!!" it feels less like we're enjoying a show that so many people worked hard on and more like we're trying to create rituals to please the gods (which replace gods with The Algorithm and you're not far off).

like i haven't even been involved in fandom for that long but even just seven or so years ago if a show did well enough that it was nominated for awards and trending on twitter and having well attended comic con panels then it would be renewed for at least a season or two. and back then being renewed for another season meant "we're for sure going to get a new season next year!" with almost no possibility of cancelation. and even shows that did just okay ratings wise would easily get 5+ seasons.

and it was more fun. when i was watching Doctor Who or Arrowverse or whatever in 2014 i could enjoy and critique the media itself instead of constantly being nervous about whether the next season will be cashed in for nostalgia bait or have its episode count cut or be postponed for three years or just outright canceled because it was slightly less popular than last year. like the fandom would still stress out over potential bad narrative choices or whatever but we would also get excited about the future.

maybe it's just my own perceptions but i just tend to find myself favoring fandoms for shows (or at least eras, i'm looking at you Doctor Who) that have been completed. i like Good Omens and Our Flag Means Death and Strange New Worlds and Percy Jackson and the Olympians and the latest Doctor Who era but i just find it hard to get invested when there's so much anxiety around if there will be a future to those shows and so much of the fandom activity revolves around that anxiety. and then as a result when the show does end for good (whether through cancelation or design) the fandom starts to fade away too because so much of it was based on the temptation of The Future.

and i'm also quick to admit that production in pre-streaming era shows had their own problems (once popular shows running for 15 seasons and jumping the shark just because it's a cash cow, tampered down diversity in the interest of "popular appeal", the whole quantity over quality issue, etc) but at least the fandoms were more optimistic and focused on the story itself instead of just being angry about the eternal potential of cancelation or outright deletion.

(also there are obviously much larger issues to the streaming model re: residuals and everything else brought up during the wga and sag strikes but that's all been said much more coherently so i'm just speaking from my own perspective as a fan. and even then there's still definite overlap between the fandom anxiety over renewal and the real world economic anxiety for people involved with production over "will we have a job/be paid". it's far too early to tell but i really hope the strikes will help to solve this problem.)

#and not even to once again bring up the problems with serializing nearly every show #and how that means what would have been a few minor quibbles and problems are now baked into the formula of a show #and how that contributes to the fandom anxiety around inconsistency between seasons #idk if im saying anything new but ive just been thinking about this with how i feel like the anxiety around prodigy's future #is stopping me from getting more invested in the show/fandom #same with the new doctor who era. i love fifteen so far but i cant stop being So Nervous when fandom is the place i come to relax #anyways im very glad that i watched and got invested in Picard after s3 started airing or else i would have the same problem #idk what to tag this as #fandom stuff #my posts #also not even to talk about how streaming models have made it so much harder to watch things internationally without pirating #like i used to just be able to buy most international stuff on itunes or dvd and have it in perpetuity #but now i drive to canada and cant access things i paid for and fuck you if you dont live in a country where that streaming service works

Pining hell

#in recently memory i have not wanted something with the intensity that i wanted to close the distance of 5 centimeters and press our sides #together. we were SO close. gravity was literally on my side we were sitting in a playground slide hiding from the sun my legs were swung #over the side she sat at the base and all i had to do was relax a little and i would have slid right into her #and she would have let me #when i saw her again for the first time in years she called to say she was walking down the street towards me and we would see each other #soon and i ran. i wanted to see her so bad so i ran and we ended up on opposite sides of the highway with no crossing #hi #from across the telephone line #and we talked like that until we got to the traffic light and she crossed to meet me and i wanted to hug her and look at her all at once #i looked at her. she'd lost some weight. she wears flat shoes now instead of the heels she adores. she cut her bangs #some time between the shared plate of french fries and the rose bushes we walked past time started moving again and i thought about the #future. for once looking forward to it. where would i go? what would i do? i didnt know before but i knew then i wanted it to be with her #ive always kind of known that #i used to think about her constantly #over the years i thought about her less and less but still often enough to maintain contact #hi it has been *checks timestamp* SIX DAYS?! #only six days since i wrote all the above and istg i felt time slowing down and stopping the longer i went without her #until i just kinda. settled back into living without her #six days ago it was unbearable #now im just as i have been for the past several years #and its kind of sad seeing that play out #but also by nature of getting used to it i cant even really get sad about it #its like listening to someone else distant from me talk about a foreign concept #love‚ i think i understood it just a little bit a week ago #it seems to have felt great #i dont remember it all that well anymore #talking tag
