Sometimes, he will purposely start a conversation about birds just to see the sparkle in your eyes

And your enthusiasm when you speak

Has probably saved your voicemail of you talking about birds to him

He likes to listen to it when he's sad

Sometimes he's caught off guard when you suddenly spill a fact about birds

Like you could be doing english homework together and mention birds and he's

Soft Things Reki does

Reki likes to mindlessly doodle on his skin whenever he’s bored, and sometimes he finds himself drawing cheesy things such as a heart with your initials inside it.

Also asks his mom, or maybe even pesters Joe as he opens the restaurant to teach him how to cook. This is so he can make a special dish for you, preferably your favorite food he remembers he wrote down in his notes one day.

A firm believer of pinky promises, so whenever you guys swear he makes sure that's how you seal the deal with each other. Will then pull your interlocked fingers to his chest, right against where his heart should be.

Has had one of those cliche moments where he’s riding his skateboard and suddenly sees you come out. He gets so caught up in your beauty,  staring at you in complete awe before realizing he’s not paying attention, and smacks right into a tree. You run over to help him up and he gives you a dopey smile, swearing you’re an angel in his dazed state. 

Reki keeps polaroids of you guys and has them hung up in his workshop in the backyard. It gives him the motivation to keep working whenever he glances up and sees your face.

He’s the type to send you videos or pictures if you ask for them. Usually with his face dramatically pushed into the camera, or as he’s skating he’ll raise his phone in the air and smile brightly at you.

He lets you wear his hoodies and headbands and tells you how adorable you are when he sees you with them on.

Sends you funny videos at 2 o’clock in the morning, but will also send you a goodnight text with a heart emoji once he sees you’ve fallen asleep.

The first time you met Reki and Langa was the day Cherry introduced you to them and suggested you be that fated third roommate they were looking for.

It was certainly awkward at first.

Normally, people could just avoid their roommates who were strangers until they eventually got comfortable enough to start a conversation.

But Reki and Lange were already best friends and were nice enough to try and include you in their friendship. They were always ensuring you didn't feel like a third wheel, especially after they told you about their relationship.

At first, it was sort of annoying in a sweet way, but after a month of complaining about Reki using his skateboard to get around the house and fussing over the two boys to get them to eat and sleep on time, it was safe to say you had gotten used to living with the two of them.

You didn't even realise when the casual affection started. When awkward side hugs had turned to cuddle sessions after long days and kisses on the cheek or forehead.

When you stopped dodging Langa around the kitchen and got used to being hugged from the back as he gushed about some new skater they were going to go against.

When Reki's loud action movies playing in the living room as he worked on a new skateboard had become more endearing than annoying.

Before long you had even gotten accustomed to seeing the rest of their friends like Joe, Cherry and Miya.

You found yourself spending Saturday nights tripping over your own feet as they tried to teach you how to skate and grumbling about how unsafe your roommates were being.

Maybe that was why you weren't as surprised as you should have been when things turned more romantic than platonic.

When forehead kisses as you cooked breakfast on a lazy Sunday morning turned into kisses down your neck while Langa whined about how sore he was.

When watching Reki fix skateboards turned into sitting between his legs with his hands cupping yours as he taught you how to do it and occasionally mumbled the sweetest little compliments into the back of your neck.

You tried to distance yourself, tried to draw a line between what was normal for friends who were affectionate with each other and people dating.

But before long you found that Langa was kissing your cheeks, forehead, anything he could right after he would kiss Reki deeply after winning a race.

Everything just felt so easy with both of them. Which was why you found yourself agreeing when they sat you down and talked to you about being in a three-way relationship.

Nothing really changed.

Langa would kiss you good morning while you whipped up breakfast, but now his lips would linger on yours.

Reki would still drag you to the couch after classes so he could force you to work on new skateboards with him, but now you sit on his lap as his fingers drummed against your waist and he observed you add twists of your own to his creations.

Movie nights were still the same, but you had lost track of how many times cuddling sessions turned into lazy make outs and vice versa.

You learned to stop caring about the weird looks and whispers of how they liked each other more than you, and they learned to adjust their lives to accommodate their new partner.

Over time the apartment you shared turned from a temporary college dorm to the place the three of you would return to after your jobs would end.

Everything was still the same.

You thought being in a relationship with two people would be double the drama but instead you found yourself feeling more at peace than you ever had before.

And that was all that mattered; that the three of you were happy to be roommates in a relationship.

Reki/Langa/Tadashi + crafty s/o

Reki

Though his legs & feet are pretty dexterous for skating, his hands & fingers are not.

Reki doesn’t think knitting is very interesting, but he does find himself watching their fingers a lot if they are doing it.

He tried to have them teach him once but he just ended up making a big knot ball and never trying again.

Langa

Crocheting and knitting are very common in Canada, so he’s pretty familiar with it.

Actually, his grandmother used to crochet, and made him a lot of winter hats growing up. One of her scarves is one of his prized possessions, now that she’s past away.

When they make him a new scarf Langa almost cries. But keeps it down to just a manly tear up and thanks from for the present.

Tadashi

Can actually knit as well.

He learned from the household staff maids while staying at the mansion, and decided it was a useful skill.

In their off time, Tadashi and his s/o will sit on the couch together and knit together. Knitting side by side with the new one, like an old married couple.

okay so

what had originally gotten you totally and entirely infatuated with any and all things pertaining to Reki Kyan was the way he skateboarded

you loved how happy and carefree he seemed when he was cruising around and the driven concentration that controlled his actions and pulled his bottom lip between his teeth when he was attempting new tricks

the more days passed the more you found your gaze being drawn towards him. it had started with you watching him zip past you on your walk home from school, then you started watching him do laps around the school grounds during free periods, and eventually it escalated to you staring even when there wasn’t a skateboard involved

(little did you know he was watching you too, you just happened to watch each other at different times. mutual, avoiding, boarder-line-stalking watching)

once, your eyes just so happened to catch a infinitesimal glimpse of one another’s, and the rest is history

back to the skateboard

you loved to watch him skateboard, arguably more so now that you were dating than you had before because now he carried on conversations littered with optimistic laughter while he cruised along and looked at you for your smile of approval when he finally landed that trick

there was just something so wonderful about watching him do something that made him that happy, and seeing it made you want to experience it as well

for a while, you were scared to ask him to teach you. your size had held you back from thinking it even as a possibility, as you had thought he would tell you it would be beyond your capabilities and he wouldn’t be able to teach you. (but of course precious Reki wouldn’t even think such a thought, much less speak it)

one day, you were following your normal routine. you had finished school and made your way to a local skate park and sat on the bench with your homework while occasionally staring glancing at Reki skating.

halfway through a lazy kick flip he had caught your staring and, after recovering from his fall that resulted from him staring back and not paying attention to what he was doing, he made his way towards your bench

and then, as if he had been reading your mind the entire time, he asked the question

you stared at him in pink-tinted shock, unresponsive even as he waved a hand in front of your face

“Y/n?” Reki asked, leaning forward on the pegs of his skateboard so he was now more level with you, “Did you hear me?”

This seemed to pull you out of your stupor and your blinked a few times, for once finding yourself looking everywhere but at him. After a few moments you finally recovered and faced him once more.

“Sorry, what?”

“Do you want me to teach you? To skate?”

Reki held up his skateboard as if to emphasize his question, holding the confused glint in his eyes at your previous stance but staring at you positively nonetheless, happily awaiting your answer.

You wanted to immediately jump at the offer, to eagerly nod and take a wobbly step onto the glorified plank of wood, you nearly did, but you were stopped. A nagging, smirking voice in the back of your mind held you back, keeping a firm hand on your shoulder that held you just out of reach of what you wanted. You could feel your fingertips grazing the splintered edges, hear the faint instructions of Reki in front of you, but that voice was much louder than him. It told you you couldn’t, not without making a fool of yourself. ‘How could you even think of doing what he does?’ it asked. What made you think you could come close to having such the grace he did in each of his motions when you were how you were?

You were scared of stepping on the board, scared of pushing off, scared of falling, but most importantly you were scared of the possibility you may be unteachable because of your size. You were scared of seeing the awkward expression that would be on Rekis face as you once again tried and once again failed despite his best attempts at helping.

You looked up at him again, fully expecting that expression to already be displayed before you, but instead you see his happy, loving smile. The voice deafens a little and it’s grip loosens. Your fingers glide over the deck.

“Are you sure?” You asked cautiously, looking between the board and your boyfriend.

“Of course! Why wouldn’t I be?”

You pressed your lips into a line and fiddled with your hands. “I wasn’t sure if I could because…”

His brow draws together as he tries to piece together the end of your sentence before releasing itself and shooting towards his hairline as the words fall into place.

“Why would you think that?” He asks, incredulously. “Everyone can skateboard, size doesn’t matter! As long as you want to do it, you can!”

You smiled at him, at the comfort his words provided. You fully stepped forward and took hold of the skateboard, letting your fingers curl around the thin sides and bear its weight.

With one final shove of resolve filled with Rekis reassurance you pushed yourself off the bench, nodding at the redhead that you now stood beside. He smiled at you again and lead you to the middle of the skate park where it was open and flat, glancing around momentarily before dropping his skateboard down onto the concrete.

“Here — hold my hands so you can step on.” He instructed. You did so, albeit shakily, heavily leaning on his support as your feet found their way onto the board.

“Like that?” Your voice is shaky, much like your legs.

“Yep! Move your feet a little bit more apart — like that, yeah. Okay, now take your back foot and push off just a little bit and make sure you put it back in the right spot.”

You took a deep breath and did as he told you. Your hands stayed latched to his and you moved at just a little over a foot a minute, but when you turned to face him again you found his smile wide and mirroring yours. There was joy in watching, but there was just as much in doing.

Sk8 the Infinity Kyan Reki Headcanons

For one thing, Reki is an older brother, right? To three younger siblings. Now, personally, I only have two younger siblings and one of them is a male, but I know how stressful it is to be the oldest, even with the most supportive parents in the world. Which means that he's likely constantly looking for ways to escape his siblings and the lack of privacy that comes with being the oldest. From personal experience, that tends to lead to the development of hobbies. Now, I can't really remember why/how Reki got into skateboarding and I don't think that an age was expressly given to Koyomi, but they seem to be at least one or two years apart. Reki probably got into skateboarding, in part, to get away from his sister. I mean, yeah, he loved it, but it was also something that he could go do that his sister couldn't just quite yet.

Also! It's highly likely that Reki drinks some form of energy drink, such as coffee or Monster or caffeinated tea, quite often to deal with the energy drain that comes with the territory of being an older sibling. Siblings keep you up at night, whether they get random energy bursts that are hard to dispel or they get nightmares in the middle of the night that have them screaming and pleading to sleep in somebody else's bed or they simply just don't want to sleep. Being an older sibling means getting little to no sleep, especially when the siblings are much younger.

Another reason he has so much energy and so many little hyperfixations and quirks could be that he has ADHD. Now, you might say that this is unlikely because then he would be on meds or a diet to help, right? Except, wrong. In Japan, the percentage of children diagnosed with ADHD in Japan is somewhere around 7.7%, the diagnosis rate dropping to 1.65% once the threshold of adulthood is crossed. It is highly likely that Reki had ADHD and, with the amount of siblings he has, he was left undiagnosed because most of the time (at least from what I have seen and experienced), older siblings with ADHD are undiagnosed because they are seen as trying to match their siblings' energy instead of just having uncontrollable energy.

The first time you met Reki and Langa you wanted to punch them both in the face.

Had circumstances been different you would have probably gotten to know the two of them and become fast friends. But they weren't.

Instead, on your first day of school as you skated back home, you found yourself crashing into two of your classmates.

It had clearly been their fault.

You were following traffic rules and silently waiting for the stop sign when two boys suddenly barrelled into you, causing you to not only tumble from your skateboard but also watch as it rolled onto the middle of the road where it was run over by a school bus.

Your decision to angrily kick Reki who then fell into Langa and caused both of them to get a face-first of the concrete below certainly was justified.

You just wished you knew the redheaded boy was the very person you were set to skate with that night.

Reki and Langa were both very talented skaters. That much was certain from the way they moved on their boards as if it was a mere extension of their feet.

Their talent was as mesmerising as it was annoying, for it meant that a promising amateur like yourself was fated to lose your first race even if Reki had beat you by a mere second or two.

You had expected them to laugh and rub it in your face but instead found yourself being confronted by two teenage boys bowing before you right after the race as they apologised for breaking your board.

They thought you would have won had you not been forced to use your old board that was chipped and rolled funnily. You thought they were full of shit.

That was, of course, until Monday morning arrived and you walked into school to see a perfectly crafted new board tucked away in your locker.

This time you couldn't help but smile at their sincerity, feeling your previous anger ebb away as you skated to the back of the school where you had previously seen the two of them skipping classes.

You had never intended to befriend the two of them, but after you found out Reki had been the one to make your new board you couldn't help but gush at his skills.

It helped that Langa too was as in awe as you were and found great joy in joining you as you teased Reki with compliments.

Over time you found it was increasingly hard to stay away from the two of them and quickly became friends.

But that all changed a couple months later after Langa's big race against some new skater who was almost as talented as Adam. Because the sight of your two best friends kissing each other after the race broke your heart in ways you couldn't understand.

You spent the rest of that night lying awake in your bed as you contemplated your emotions, but somehow, come morning you were more confused than you had been before.

Because you couldn't understand why you were upset.

At first, you thought you had a crush on Langa. Reki was definitely that one friend you couldn't help but love because of his personality but Langa was always so soft-spoken yet sweet.

Your presumptions had quickly changed around two am when you rolled onto your side and realised that every fantasy you could muster of kissing Langa usually involved Reki wrapping his arms around you and joining in a moment later.

You were confused. But more importantly, you were conflicted.

It was clear that you had feelings for your best friends who were dating each other, but you were unsure of what to do about them.

Reki and Langa had always been open to every aspect of your personality, no matter how weird or unconventional it might be, but you were afraid wanting to be in a relationship with both of them wasn't one of those things.

You should have known they would catch on quickly.

Try as you might you couldn't help but give in to their constant questions the next morning and confess.

At first, they simply remained quiet.

Then they laughed.

The sound was so infuriating you couldn't help but try and run away from the two of them, but that was before Reki wrapped an arm around your waist and pulled you between them so that Langa could place an endearingly sweet kiss on your parted lips.

Apparently, they had been thinking about opening their relationship and having a poly one too. In fact, they were planning on talking to you about it too.

Just as you had fantasised you felt Reki tighten his grip around you as you pulled away from Langa and allowed the redhead to peck you and then him.

Your relationship with Reki and Langa might have started off on the wrong foot, but you couldn't be happier that the two skaters had crashed into you that day.

Because that one accident had helped you find the people you loved.

Reki

Since he is basically a puppy of a person, he really likes it.

Sure it’s a little childish. But it makes him happy.

Getting appreciation for something he’s done, or a gentle rub while they are snuggled up together, is always something to enjoy.

Actively seeks out headpats during the former. Later in their relationship it’s almost impossible for him to fall asleep without them, because he misses the soothing comb through his hair.

Langa

If Reki is a puppy of a person, then Langa is like a cat. Standoffish, aloof, and pretends he doesn’t like it.

He has an aunt back in Canada that used to pet his head all the time at family events. Ruffling his hair and calling him cute, or how his long hair was like a girl. So it gives him a little family-PTSD.

When s/o does it he becomes ok with it though. Since they respect his boundaries, and don’t do it often, it’s more of a treat than an overly obnoxious gesture.

Ironically he likes to give headpats though.

Tadashi

If there was ever someone more in need of and deserving of headpats, it’s Tadashi!

He might honestly tear up if s/o gave him a headpat for a good job. Moved by their soft gesture and finally acknowledgement of his hard work.

Hc that Reki is trans and only Cherry knows because he took Reki shopping for new clothes and caught him changing with a binder on.

Reki panicked and Cherry explained that he saw himself as genderfluid and assures that he won’t tell anyone.

Now Cherry makes sure that if Reki ever decides to have surgery instead of a binder, he’ll put the money together for him- even if he assures him that his mother will be there to support him.

Once Reki was being bullied and the kid bullying him was pushing him around for being a liar and not a real boy. Cherry- who was out with Joe- saw this and grabbed the kid, and almost beat him half to death, if not for Joe stepping in.

Reki insists that Cherry acts like his mother, and Cherry threatens to kill him if word gets out about it.

But they support each other.
