Art in The Good Fight and (The Good Wife) - Part 1
as promised, i am resharing some of my art threads from twitter over here. to recap, as a history major and art nerd, i have always loved looking at the art shown in the sets of period drama, but it was really striking to me how obviously intentional it was being used to assist in telling story in The Gilded Age (plus Impressionist lover Mrs Sylvia Chamberlain was just begging for it).
while part of it is about identifying the art because i do love an easter egg, the other part i find really interesting is thinking about how art reflects character and story. so, i started thinking more about art in The Good Fight/The Good Wife, and i started a twitter thread and it became a season long thing this year for the final season.
this post is part 1 of 2 about the art in The Good Fight/The Good Wife, and in particular, Diane Lockhart's impeccable art taste. so, without further ado...
this is my hands down fav, which is in Diane's Boseman/Reddick office in TGF, Girl with Peony by Andy 'Zig' Leipzig 🔥
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i adore the surrealism and guess what i found? sunflowers of course 🌻🌀🌻 this is Andy 'Zig' Leipzig's Have a Heart, 2014.
Tumblr media
in Diane's old apartment in TGW era, the engraving on the right is by Jean-Pierre Louis Laurent Houël, Vase cineraire et figures antiques (1782, Gennadius Library).
Tumblr media
the left looks like Bougainvillea, Parivolia, Italy by Isabelle De Borchgrave (watercolour).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is not Diane's, this is Sweeney's, but i have never been able to find this still life from TGW 419, which is a shame because it is GORGEOUS.
Tumblr media
in the McHart apartment post TGF s2, there's an engraving by French artist Jean Louis Prévost, Flowers & Fruit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
behind Kurt and more clearly here is a French Watercolour Landscape (distributed by Soicher Marin gallery).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there are also a few pieces in the bathroom, including some botanical prints visible only in the mirror. and this one above the fireplace, A Rainy Day, by an unknown American Continental School artist (20C, oil on canvas).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'll be back next week on Thursday (aka missing TGF more than usual hours) for the rest of my thread, which focused on the art in s6 and was possibly more intentional than the rest of The Good Universe put together.

Reflecting on McHart: 3x08
The One Where Kurt Saves Diane, the title alone had me swooning about my favorite couple and my God, they did not disappoint! My reflection on McHart in 3x08 of The Good Fight can be found below the read more ‘cause my God, so long. Apologies for the delay!
1. “Sweetheart, have you seen my bag?” “Check the other closet.”
Sweetheart. Oh, my heart! And the other closet, implying that there is another closet, but also, after them showing us more of the layout of their home in this episode it actually makes less sense that they have a large walk-in closet in the vicinity of their bedroom. In fact, what we saw of the layout made no sense whatsoever! There’s a window in the foyer that indicates the end of the house on that side while their bedroom indicates the same on the other side, but then it’s just wall at the end of the hall and WHERE IS THE REST OF THEIR HOUSE??? Honestly though, they’ve got so much in that bedroom that I guess who needs a rest of the house? Also that’s just a generally odd location for a bedroom. Just saying.
...Look, I know I should be grateful that we’re getting Diane’s home/McHart home life at all, and I am. I promise, I am! ...But there’s so much thought that seems to go into the tiniest of details decor-wise, why can’t the same be done for something AS BASIC AS A LAYOUT AND A CLOSET FOR A WOMAN WHO HAS THE WARDROBE OF A QUEEN?!?! A CLOSET FOR A WOMAN/CHARACTER WHO IS KNOWN FOR HER FASHION?!?!!?!?! Sigh. Anyway. Yeah... I’m still not quite over the closet thing in case you haven’t noticed. But onto other things now...
2. “That reminds me, we’re invited to Mar a Lago for the weekend. ...That was a joke.” “Oh, God, you have to give me more of a signal when you’re joking or I’ll end up with a heart attack!”
Apparently Kurt still hasn’t learned that he can’t use the same expression for everything... and apparently Diane still believes that repeatedly swatting at him is effective punishment. Ah, so much has changed for the better since Landing, but I’m glad that this aspect of their relationship has not! Haha!
3. That whole goodbye! The kiss that lingers just a second longer than it has to, her sing-songed “I love you!” and his “Love you, too.” Oh, and... “All I know is they don’t deserve you.” Happy sigh.
4. Honestly just that whole. fucking. opening. scene. It was just SO DOMESTIC. The news, asking where something is, clothes slung on chairs, just that little bit of disarray of a typical morning and them weaving in and out of each other’s routines in the most natural way, them meeting and sharing a little moment before they part for the day with I love you’s. Oh, my McHart! And I know we’ve been blessed with that domesticity all season and I know I’ve mentioned it in every reflection I’ve done on them, but much like the closet situation, I’m STILL NOT OVER IT. I will NEVER be over domestic McHart!
5. Okay. Confession time. When I saw Christine wearing that cream/gold suit in interviews, there was a wee little part of me that felt hopeful that it could be a vow renewal outfit. (Not that I thought it was going to happen, but the image came and it was quite lovely and wouldn’t it have been nice???) It was not. But she looked beautiful just the same!
6. “Hello, handsome.”
FUCK. ME. UP. That is all.
7. “You told me I was bad at lying, and it’s true. But you’re bad at it too.”
Okay, but she’s not bad at lying. She’s actually really good at it. Like really good. ...She’s just bad at lying to him, and that’s actually like the sweetest thing??? ...Pretty sure Kurt is just bad at lying in general though, haha.
8. “We’re in this together now. So if you’re in danger, I need to know.”
That whole little speech of his... They truly are married, a family, one unit. One’s problems are the other’s. They are so fucking in this, and it’s taken so long but they’re here and so entirely committed and in love!
9. “Kurt, there are certain work things touching on politics that you can’t tell me, and there are certain things touching on politics that I can’t tell you. We have found a way to bifurcate our lives and make it work. So trust me when I say I can’t tell you.” I actually love that this was acknowledged--both by the writers for our benefit as well as by Diane in this conversation. Their contrasting politics have always been an aspect of their relationship but we’ve rarely seen the effect they’ve had on them (aside from the way they get them all hot and bothered) or how they manage them within their relationship. Politics are hard. Harder yet for two who are so passionate and even more so in this current political climate. And while they accept the other for who they are and their beliefs, they do know it’s a delicate dance and this is one of the ways that they work to care for their marriage. They protect themselves by keeping elements separate from their marriage, and yet... “I will overlook politics to help.”
...when it comes down to it, they are still on the same team and their partner’s needs and safety will always come first.
And that hug right there. ...It’s like a hug for my soul.
10. I just... I really don’t understand the purpose of these closets??? (Yes, I’m on about the damned closets again.) Diane has a small selection of clothes/shoes/bags in hers, Kurt has shoes, multiple umbrellas, a toolbox, and... a hamper maybe?, and who knows what else above, all rather random. Again, they must have a walk-in but these also don’t seem to be coat closets either, EVEN THOUGH they also don’t have a closet or any kind of hooks in the foyer (why???). IT JUST DOESN’T MAKE SENSE. AND MY FAVE CHARACTER (who is also the main character!) DESERVES A HOME SET THAT MAKES SENSE!!! ...Alright, I’m done for real now.
11. I feel like there are home cameras that already send you notifications when they sense movement, so I think all of that electric work and the lasers were a little extra (not to mention getting the stickiness of duct tape on the woodwork... Diane may not be pleased), but I like the spirit, Kurt! LOL!
12. Awww... Kurt’s lil office! But I spent so much time pausing and analyzing each and every photo in there... and they’re all just like military-related stock photos? LOL! ...And then there’s his mug that has a flag on it and text that suspiciously ends in “... AGAIN” Can Diane go and visit him soon please and “accidentally” knock it off his desk? It can be during an act of seduction!
13. They haaaaaad to bring in a perky young blond, didn’t they. Really? Reeeally??? Perhaps the point was to show us that he hardly paid any attention to her, that there was no flirtation whatsoever... or perhaps it was in fact to stir up the memories of his past indiscretion. Either way, definitely could’ve done without. Thanks though, TGF!
14. Wait, does Diane have two home phones (given the one he called was a line dedicated to her, given the recorded message), and her cell phone??? I mean they must have a joint home phone... unless they just kept their numbers and have two lines?
15. Not gonna lie, kinda mad that NSA guy 1) didn’t know who Kurt was like right away and 2) wasn’t fanboying over over him/them. I mean he’s in on her every call and text but out of the loop on Kurt and Diane? I. Think. Not. (Also NSA guys fanboyed over Alicia so I think a part of me is like SO WHERE’S THE INTEREST IN DIANE?!?! ...Also, also throwback to “I think Will and Diane get it on.”)
16. That look on his face when he finds out. And while I kept faith in him, that face was striking and certainly speaks volumes regarding what is to come.
17. And Kurt-Fucking-McVeigh saves the day. Saves Diane.
18. So it’s all over and done with, Diane is in the clear... and all she wants is to go home and find solace in the arms of the man she loves.
19.  The way she pulls his arm around her as she settles herself beside him, nuzzling in, the two snuggled up there on the sofa at the end of the day. It’s all positively adorable and this is everything I’ve wanted in McHart!
20. The thing about the hacking is that is wasn’t just a politics thing with Kurt, it was a morality thing, too. It was wrong and we know how high his ethical and moral standards stand. And yet, he fixed it, and it wasn’t for glory or points (as he doesn’t even tell her!) or anything but pure love. And honestly, I was afraid that, even though he did in fact quietly fix it, he might still harbor resentment toward her for being involved with such a thing. But with the way he accepted her into his arms then going beyond the bare minimum nothing-is-amiss response by pressing a kiss to her forehead and rubbing her arm, it’s clear that he’s accepted it, accepted her for who she is, flaws and all, and is moving forward. As she has before. Honestly, the love these two have for one other!
And just a few other things...
Kurt is so clever!
I feel like Diane must own about as many umbrellas as she does fabulous coats.
I will never tire of seeing Kurt all spiffed up for his new job! ...Of course I’ll also never tire of seeing him in plaid and jeans, either. (Why do I have a feeling that Diane had a field day getting him outfitted for the position? Haha!)
“I took care of it.” “I’m glad.”
*Cough* Closets *cough*
This episode was so entirely lovely and had my heart positively swelling! And maybe the’ve been so nice to us this season simply to throw us off of the scent for the finale... but no matter the reason, I’m grateful to have had all of these beautiful domestic and loving scenes! Here’s to many more!

Why do you think you have fallen so hard for McHart?!
That's a fabulous question. I loved the constant bickering between them from the very beginning. I liked the amazing execution of opposites attract that actually addressed that it's not all make up sex and eye opening conversations, but actually possible to cause relationship threatening problems. I liked the way they broke down each other's facades, how he made her silly and bubbly, and how she challenged his pride and assertiveness. I loved that they make each other laugh. I loved the strong chemistry they had from the moment he eyed her while she was on a phone call during their meeting.
From the beginning, I thought that Diane was clearly the most interesting and one of the most complex characters (next to Kalinda IMO) in the show, and I loved all the additional layers that Kurt and all their ups and downs added to her complexity. The fact that it didn't work out, even though they so clearly loved each other more than anyone else, fascinated me. I love that they leave so much room for interpretation, as anyone can clearly see in the wide variety of fanfictional approaches, and there's little that I love as much as finding my own way to figure them out and share it with people who in turn like my approach.
A different thought: I once read that OTPs reflect what you yourself are looking for in a relationship and I think there's a lot of truth in this statement. I relate to Diane a lot, at least in the way I view her, and I might even project a lot of my feelings and issues on her because her character leaves a lot of room to have things in common with me, aside from the things we really do share in canon. So, yeah. There's that 😂
Honestly anon, I remember very clearly how I watched their first kiss for the very first time. I was sitting on the couch, and I was probably as taken aback by him kissing her as Diane was, and then she left after kissing him one last time (lmao) and I paused the episode for a solid five minutes, looked aside and thought, well... here goes my attempt to not start obsessing over them. And I haven't succeeded ever since.

For my fic Will’s Son
Oof the formatting is weird. I’m so bad at tumblr posts
1. What inspired you to write the fic this way?
I read a story about Kurt getting Diane pregnant and it was set during one of the earlier seasons of TGW. I loved it and it was cute but because Diane was an older mom she struggled a lot. I wanted Diane to have a baby but I wanted to keep the McHart love story we all love so much. So I decided to have Will be the dad and honestly as crazy as it seems it’s hilarious to think of Diane and Will raising a baby together. Which is why I did flashbacks to get a glimpse of them during the pregnancy and with a little one. It gives me time to think of the next chapter while keeping it cute if I’m writing an angsty or more romantic present time chapter. Also I just love doing flashbacks in stories.
2. What scene did you first put down?
The first chapter lmao. I just went for it because I didn’t know what I wanted to do but I wanted to establish Will and Alicia’s relationship first. I also wanted to establish that Will’s kid was Diane’s.
3. What’s your favorite line of narration?
Literally all of chapter 17.
Jk jk
Okay so when I wrote this line I just had to take a moment to exclaim to myself how fucking good I am. I had to look up a picture of Julianna Margulies’ eyes and I just went for it. The line is “Her features remained soft except those honey colored eyes whose specks of green reflected concern.” Bitch I’m so fucking good at imagery. That whole chapter was my favorite for narration. My other fave from that chapter is “It was like she lost her mind for a moment....Will really derailed her train of thought. Not even derailed, he crashed that shit.” That’s my fave paragraph because when I was writing the chapter I had a great flow and then it was like I lost my mind because I couldn’t think so Alicia had to lose her mind too. These characters are often feeling what I am too. It’s how I write good shit.
4. What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
Okay again, I’m gonna hype myself up. Guys I’m a funny person okay? I’m always trying to make people laugh in my writing and in real life. It’s hard to say. There’s also a chapter I haven’t posted yet that’s got a funny line in it. But I’ll give you my favorite line that isn’t funny.
“You wanna talk, baby? Let’s talk. I’ll listen.” That’s the most Will Gardner line I’ve ever written and it reminds me of the elevator scene when he asks if he’s being too hard on her. It’s flirty, fun, and very sexy. This chapter is PG and it’s still kind of sexy the way Will talks to her. It’s also from that chapter I love so much.
5. What part was the hardest to write?
Anything involving Alicia. Just.. fuck. If you’ve ever tried to write Alicia Florrick it’s hard as hell. She a complex character with a complex mind and she figures things out before I do. It’s like come on lady slow down just a little.. It’s like I know her future but I don’t know how she got there. Which is wild because with Diane and Kurt I just write whatever the fuck I want and they just follow along. Oh and Will! Will depends on Alicia’s story! She’s not even the main character and I struggle so hard with writing her. So just Alicia is the hardest part to write. I love the challenge but damn...
6. What makes this fic special or different from your other fics?
It’s not gay.
I’m pansexual. I like to read and write both lgbt things and straight things but I tend to write more for lesbian couples. My longest stories before this one were about Tanya and Rosie from Mamma Mia. Which is wild because it made me realize how different Tanya is from Diane Lockhart and as much as I want to compare them and write them the same I can’t. I can expand more on that but I won’t right now. The other thing that makes it different is the fact that I don’t rely on smut to fill in chapters or even fuel the next plot line. That could’ve been a Tanya thing but I don’t know. Smut doesn’t fit into this story with the way these characters are written. It’s also different because I’m not pushing myself to get to 2k words in every chapter. I take my time and when a chapter is ready it’s ready even if it’s only 300 words. It just has more flow and its not as immature as my Mamma Mia stuff. I literally cringe at that stuff now. My writing has grown a lot since then and it’s only been a few months.
7. Where did the title come from?
Nowhere. I think I need to change it so I can get more readers interested. I just wanted to post it because I was excited and had written three chapters before I decided to share it. So I just put the first thing that came to mind. I suck at chapters most of the time. I tend to save each chapter under a specific topic or a phrase or even a song that inspired it. I hate the title so much which is why I’ve started titling each chapter.
8. Did any real people or events inspire any part of this?
Heck yeah, baby. I pull inspiration from everything but the thing that’s most specific is my own life and friendships. Will and Diane’s relationship is taken from mine with my best friend. We’re platonic soulmates. In chapters 20+ you’ll see how this ties in but for now I’ll tell you this; I was a little in love with this person and they loved me too and we fell hard but we couldn’t be together and we shouldn’t have been because the moment we shared (like Will and Diane’s one night stand) was just a moment and though it felt like it was perfect and like we were in love we aren’t meant to be together and even if we are I’m sure the universe will find a way. But we’re best friends. They’re a little younger than I am and they’re totally Will and I’m Diane and the similarities are crazy.
9. Were there any alternate versions for this fic?
No. However, I’m thinking there needs to be so I can put Will and Diane together for once.
10. Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?
Will/Diane: it was funny and wild and I love doing obscure stories.
Will/Alicia: it’s my fix it fic. They make me so emo and I just want them to be happy.
Kurt/Diane: because I wanted people to read it. Kidding lol. Because I love McHart so much and I enjoy writing them.
11. What do you like best about this fic?
How different it is. It’s just as fun as it is romantic and I’m so used to doing one or the other. I also love the response I’m getting to it. I didn’t expect it to be so well liked. I love writing babies and I love writing cute/funny lines. I also love romance. I love that I can reread it and laugh like I didn’t write it.
12. What do you like least about this fic?
It’s moving so slowly. I already know how I want it to end but getting there is taking entirely too long. It could be because half of it is flashbacks but guys I’m struggling. I’ve already written the first chapter of the sequel. I’m not even done yet.
13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?
I don’t listen to anything while writing because I need to focus. The music I was listening too around the time I started writing was 90s R&B and Bruno Mars. I needed the raw emotion to fuel the feelings the couples had for each other. The soft, sexy, bass is exactly how Will and Alicia see each other. It’s how I would want to write their smut if I decided to write some for them. I would write it like a Boyz II Men song. Oh and for Kurt and Diane it’s literally just Mamma Mia songs and Motown. Angel Eyes kills me and it’s just so beautiful. Their love is beautiful and soft and angelic. They’re also classic like Motown and not always perfect but the feeling is there vague as it maybe. Definitely check out 90s hits like Boyz II Men, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston. Do it. Also Motown cause Queen Baranski loves it.
14. Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from this fic?
Love is hard and Alicia deserved better. Also, love can come at any time in your life. That’s why I kept the classic Kurt and Diane love story. I made Willicia too easy so McHart is that much harder.
15. What did you learn from writing this fic?
I learned about babies’ growth and development. I knew a lot already because I’ve taken child care courses but I needed a refresher. I learned about cowboys and their lingo. I learned that readers like cute stuff and they don’t mind weird ideas. I learned that throwing in Mamma Mia references is always cool. And I learned that I don’t need to add smut to keep it interesting.

Could you do 9 for mchart?
9 = grinding = grind = daily grind = Diane is working too late? It’s a stretch, I admit :)) I hope you enjoy anyway, anon.
Diane purses her lips and holds down the backspace key, erasing all her work of the last thirty minutes in a fit of impulsive frustration. It’s a ridiculous case anyway; she never should have agreed to handle it personally, friend of Adrian’s or not. Maybe the stars will align and the judge will be ill tomorrow and they’ll get a continuance until after the holidays. She snorts audibly at the thought. She is just not that lucky.
Lifting her eyes from the keyboard, she glances up to find the office beyond her glass walls is as dark as night, save for the faint sparkle of Christmas lights coming from the reception area. As well it should be, she supposes, at nearly midnight. Easing up on the little plastic key, she slows the destruction, then brings it to a stop, sighing loudly at her lack of progress.
“Something wrong?” a familiar voice asks, and she jumps a foot in her chair as, from out of the gloom, her husband appears in her doorway.
“Kurt!” she exclaims, smiling with surprised delight, then glancing at her watch in case she had mistaken the late hour. “What on earth are you doing here? How was your trip?” He had been gone the past week, visiting his sister out of state. She hadn’t expected to see him until tomorrow night.
His lip quirks upward, amused. "Looking for you. Obviously. Went by the house first.”
She bites down on a smile of her own. "Well I suppose you weren’t likely to be looking for representation at this hour. You should have called though.”
He chuckles. “If I had, what would you have said?”
Her eyebrows knit together for a moment, then she shrugs. “Point taken.” She would have told him she had hours of work ahead of her, and he should just go home. He knows her too well.
“I’m hoping,” he adds, venturing further into the office, “that I’m a little harder to refuse in person.” He smiles, then glances away, as if afraid such hope may be just a little too much. Things have been good with them lately, but she knows he hasn’t quite been able to shake the worry of it all coming to an abrupt and final end.
"You are,” she says, grinning reassuringly. "I missed you, and I’d like nothing more than to leave with you right now, but…” she screws up her face in annoyance,  “I do still have work to finish.”
He shrugs and ambles over to the sofa in the corner of her office. “S'okay. I’ll wait.” As she watches silently, he sits, opening the newspaper lying untouched on her coffee table, and leans over, elbows resting on his knees, to read.
Unseen by him, she imitates his shrug, then returns to her summation, retyping a variation of what she just deleted, inspired now to efficiency rather than perfection.
After a few minutes, Kurt straightens up and shrugs out of his heavy winter coat, tossing it on the couch beside him, before unbuttoning the cuffs of his plaid shirt and folding his sleeves up to his forearms.
“Too warm?” Diane asks.
He grunts in the affirmative, not looking up from the paper. She should return to her own work, she should, but now that she’s looked up, she’s entranced by the picture he makes. The soft yellow light of the lamp beside him acts like a spotlight on him in the otherwise dark corner.
He’s a beautiful man, her husband, with his thick silver hair and warm hazel eyes. He steals her breath sometimes, still, after all these years. She loves the fine lines around his eyes, the roughness of his beard, the strength in his forearms currently bathed in golden light not ten feet from where she sits.
The hell with it. She saves her document and stands. She’s beside him before he notices.
“Ready?” he asks, pausing with his page half-turned.
“Yes,” she says, pulling the newspaper away from him, folding it haphazardly and then tossing it aside. She’s ready, ready to put all his lingering worries to rest.
His eyes narrow in confusion as she nudges his knee until he slides over to make room for her on the couch. “What? Don’t you want to go home?”
“In a minute.” She lifts her hands to frame his face, fingers tracing the faint dots of coloured light that are reflections of the distant christmas lights. He truly is a gift, the only one she’ll ever want.
“I love you, you know.” she says, dragging her thumbs over his rough cheeks.
“I love you too,” he says, and she smiles, about to lean in when suddenly he snorts and pulls back.
As she watches in consternation, he reaches into his shirt pocket, pulling out a tiny sprig of greenery. Mistletoe. “Stole a piece from reception,” he confesses.
“We have mistletoe in our reception area?” she asks, laughing. HR will not be pleased.
“A little less now.” He twirls it around in his fingers, then lifts it above his head with a lopsided sheepish grin.
She doesn’t need any further invitation, sliding closer to him and returning her hands to his cheeks, pulling him to her and pressing their lips together. He isn’t long in dropping the hand holding the mistletoe to wrap it around her, teasing her lips open with his.
“Mmm,” she sighs after a few minutes, pulling back but leaving one hand on his cheek. “Let’s go home. And remind me to grab the rest of that mistletoe on our way out.”

Q20. How do you feel about the relationship between Diane and Adrian?
53 out of 59 respondents answered this question.
You can read all answers under the cut.
- It's okay but nothing beats her with Will in The Good Wife - Cute but also has Diane and Will potential - They work really well together. I think she misses the partnership with Will and Adrian is of a similar mind. - Love it - Great friendship - Really good freindship - Like it - I love it. I loved them as friends, not really sure about anything more even though I know a lot of people ship them. - Hm, could have gone into romance but wouldn’t have lasted and wouldn’t have been smart - Still room for development - I like that they can talk to each other - Love it. Always have. - There’s mutual respect but it’s definitely nowhere near as strong as with Will - Okay - It's good. They're a similar type, as socially-concerned pragmatists, and I think they can reflect things in each other and have kinds of conversations that are really natural to both of them. - Like it, not crazy about it. He’s no Will. - It's nice. I like how they respect each other so much. I don't have any huge opinions on them though. - Not enough of it this season - I think it needs to get stronger. They need to have more scenes together. - I like it - I feel like it’s a nice friendship, but could be something more if Kurt wasn’t there. - A very professional yet intimate (not romantically) relationship. - Good, they get along very well and have an uncomplicated collaboration. - Kinda loving them if she wasn’t with Kurt she should’ve gotten with him - Great colleagues. - Great - I kind of want more scenes of them together, they have an interesting dynamic - Love it. - I wish he trusted her more but I think overall they're great - He’s OK, but no Will - I ship them!! - Interesting and really not expected so it's nice and I'm looking forward to see how they continue to work together - If McHart doesn’t work Diane and Adrian better lmao - I like their interactions, reminiscent of Diane and Will and it's good that someone has her back. - I love it. They are very much like Will and Diane to me. - Meh - It’s awesome - Great friendship - Those cuties need more scenes together and I need to know if they went on that date or not - Shipped them - He’s no Will. - I love it. - He is her partner but not closely as Will - Friends. - I love it. I would like it would develop into a real friendship - Love it. When she was laughing in Ron Reiner's court room - I loved how he protected her without knowing what was going on. They respect each other and seem to care about each other. - I kind of ship them. They are wildly different but he's such a likeable character I can't help but root for them. The scene where she challenged the judge for criticizing Adrian was stunning and heartwarming. And the scenes where he makes clear she is part of the firm/family are so moving as well. - It’s cute, and I could see him hitting on her but I don’t ship them. - I like it a lot. I think Diane needs a platonic relationship like that in her life. Reminds of Will, but least intimate. They are a good team. - It's great. I like their chemestry. - They’re a great team and have great chemistry. - Adrian is the new Will - I'm really tired of the show pushing the Adrian/Will parallels on us, they should really stop doing that, because it prevents me from liking Adrian too much. I still like him and think he's an interesting character, and their friendship with Diane is nice to see on the show, but he will never be Will and Diane will never have a relationship with him like she had with Will.

Reflecting on McHart: 3x01
Long time no see! But just thought I’d make some little (as it turns out) incredibly lengthy remarks about McHart-related things that stood out to me in the season 3 premiere of The Good Fight! May or may not do more of these throughout the season--let me know if you’re feelin’ it. Obviously 3x01 spoilers below!
1. Them holding hands, (and her leg slung over him which we couldn’t really see in the scene but did in the promo) and THAT CHIN GRAB, and him indulging her, oh my! (BUT WHY WOULD HE TEMPT FATE LIKE THAT SAYING “WHAT COULD GO WRONG?” DAMN IT, KURT!)
2. I had been planning to make a clever remark about how I had so been looking forward to seeing what a home/bedroom that was truly both of theirs would look like... and then (once seeing it in the promo/promo pics) that apparently it looks exactly like a Diane bedroom, lol (which is sweet in it’s own right too, I suppose, him just letting her run with it... or perhaps her insisting they do it together but then she vetos like 95% of his ideas so then he just gives up). But then I saw the gun case with more than a dozen firearms in it so actually a Diane/Kurt bedroom seems to be a Diane bedroom with an abundance of guns. ...Which honestly kind of surprises me, especially given that they’re not really locked away. Wondering how those negotiations went between the two of them. ...Are the guns in the bedroom going to become relevant in a later episode??? So many questions.
But anyway, further on their bedroom, THAT THING IS FREAKING MASSIVE. I know that they want it to function as sort of a catch-all space for the season so that they can get away with shooting every single McHart home scene in that one space and so it has to serve a lot of functions, but good lord, I think an entire apartment could fit in there? And HOW MUCH SEATING DO THEY NEED? They’ve got enough for--no exaggeration--more than ten in there. That’s insane. Are they planning to have a freaking soiree in there??? HA! ...It is gorgeous though, props to Beth!
3. The domesticity of their morning! He’s shaving (with a shaving brush OF COURSE and probably a straight razor) in a towel in the bathroom and her unpacking his stuff as they talk (or holler, rather) back and forth, just kind of hanging out while doing their own things to get ready for the day. THEY’RE MARRIED. My heart! 4. Diane’s increased knowledge of his guns and his preferences despite the fact that he has probably like 50 of them. How much time does he spend talking about guns and she sits there and lets him and listens, probably mostly because she just loves watching him in his element... and also because THEY’RE MARRIED and idk, I guess you do stuff like listening to your spouse talk about things you’re maybe not totally into when you’re married?
5. He called her (at work vs. her cell) while she was on her way to work, after she had just left him, but we never find out why. WHY???
6.HER HELPING HIM PACK. Ans it’s because she “saw airplane tickets on our account.” On “OUR ACCOUNT.” Something tells me they hadn’t merged much of anything before (including their lives), but they have now and it warms my heart!
7. I actually love the way they handled the hairs/her suspicions. To start with, I think it’s natural that after everything, even if they have moved forward and are starting over, even if she has worked though everything and trusts him, I think it’s perfectly realistic that certain feelings might creep up given certain circumstances. Of course exploring this in the show could’ve easily gotten into “drama for the sake of drama” territory and been incredibly messy and destructive, but it wasn’t.
She wasn’t looking for reasons to be jealous, wasn’t looking to catch him in a trap--they honestly were “just there.” She then handled it so well, asking him reasonable questions, went on with her day, then maturely confronted him about it at home that night. (And honestly, I don’t think she actually thought he cheated, just that he was hiding something perhaps a little less than seemly that had to do with one of his “Fox blonds.”)  And then when she does approach him about it, she starts by telling him she loves him! She’s diving into this situation knowing it could be messy/hurtful but wants to preface with an “I love you” cause they are so IN THIS. Oh, also, ya know, he was being dishonest with her/lying to her, so her suspicions were totally valid. ...And on that note, DID KURT REALLY NOT LEARN HIS LESSON ON BEING HONEST WITH HER?!?!? Like he’s the most honest guy with literally e-ver-y-one else... but his wife. I think it just comes from loving her and not wanting to upset/hurt/lose her, but COME ON, MAN.
8. “I’m being paid. I don’t have a job, I’m hiring myself out...” “They pay me, Diane; it’s money. I’m not doing it because I like them!” “I’m being paid! I’m working!” That. Job. Though. His excuses are such a cop out because they obviously don’t need the money by any means. But I think it really speaks to Kurt and his pride--he loves his wife dearly, loves her strength, will always support her and is genuinely okay with her being the primary breadwinner. ...But he also still feels the need to pull his weight--to have a purpose and to contribute something financially. To “be a man.” (But again, as much as he may feel the need to play a traditional male gender role, he also has zero expectations that Diane do the same!) Because he could always volunteer in some way, take on smaller jobs, wait for the right long-term, paying position... but he’s taken that one. Because pride (which apparently trumps integrity? LOL!). (Throwback to season 2 of TGW!) Oh, Kurt... BUT ALSO SHE SEEMS TO GET THAT, because yes, she’s definitely upset about it and judges him for it, but she doesn’t even begin to try to talk him out of it, just, “Nope, you’re right. You have to do what you have to do.” She knows it’s important to him and respects that it’s something he feels he has to do! (They’ve come so far from 5x06!) As he respects that she has to do what she has to do. Like she just walks out on some kind of vague mission and he just stands there, a little confused, but like, “...Okay? Well, you do you, I guess. I’ll be here.”
9. THEIR TEASING, I LOVE IT SO MUUUUUCH. Honestly it’s been so long since we’ve seen them relaxed and playful together that it almost felt out of character for Diane for a hot minute and then I thought back and was like, “oh yeah, never mind, this is just what they’re like together when they’re not being put through the wringer by the writers!” Gasp! ...But like oh my God, they’re so freaking cute and yes please I’ll take more wise-cracking-sarcastic-sasshole Diane EVERY EPISODE, PLEASE!!! And let’s be honest, Kurt loves it. He looks at her with heart eyes and that little smirk that he can’t quite master because he’s just so in love with her even especially when she teases him. But then “Come on, come on. A little hug, please.” Like it’s not even a kiss or sexual in any way, she’s just missed him and just wants to embrace him for a moment. And given their history in regards to physical intimacy and that we can be quite certain that their sex life is still plenty vibrant, I think that a hug actually means more than tearing into each other, you know? They’ve always had that physical draw, the hug is more a product of an emotional one. (THOUGH I WOULD HAVE ZERO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THEM TEARING INTO EACH OTHER) And then, from the slightest wince she knows something is wrong and presses him on it!
10. The entirety of the “They shot you!” scene was pure GOLD. Every line, every delivery. And then her concern followed by her frantic ire and demand to know who did it, and his trying to calm her but then getting riled himself... UGH. I love it. All of it. Every bit of it. But especially... (And some lines I’ve highlighted at the bottom!)
11. Idk, but I just really love when he shows her the ointment? It just feels SO [OLD?] MARRIED COUPLE. Like, “Yeah, I did go to the hospital and they gave me this stuff to put on it, see? Here it is. Do you want to look at it?”  (And her just automatically taking it from his hand!) Honestly I clearly can’t adequately put words to why this in particular stands out to me, but it just gets me every freaking time.
12. Moment of appreciation for their bathroom (the one room that’s actually lit properly, lol) and alllll of her products and their matching toothbrushes in the middle, then that lil red car on his side (’cause they have sides, guys!). Dying to see their bedroom reasonably well lit at some point during the season (we hope) to see more of these little details! (...Also why are their towels hanging in their washroom area where it would appear that there is only a toilet???)
13. “You’re not fit to kiss my husband’s feet--a truthful man, uncomplaining, never passing the buck, never punching unless he’s punched. When did he become the exception?” After everything, after it all, after the lies and the hurt, she still believes that this man is the greatest man to walk this earth. Perhaps she now knows that he’s not perfect... but I think she believes he’s the closest any man will get. She just loves him SO. DAMN. MUCH. And then just gently resting her arm over his waist while careful to keep her distance from his wound cause she just wants needs that connection... I CAN’T WITH THEMMMMM.
14. Also, ummm... can we please get shirtless Kurt in 3 scenes in every episode??? 15. Diane uttered like 2 “husband”s, 2 “wife”s, and one “married” in this single episode... clearly the writers are as committed to defining them as MARRIED AF as we are.
And just a few other lines that stood out to me:
“I’m happy. ...Am I ridiculous?” “You like narrating your life.”
“But mean it.”
“...And it reeked of cologne, or mousse, or something, and I know that you’d rather die than use girly products...”
“...Then which of you Fox blonds is it?” (”Fox” did not sound like “Fox” upon my first watch/listen, haha!)
“You call him Eric?” “Oh, God...”
“DIANE, you’re scaring me!”
“My God, my poor husband. What have they done to you?”
“That’s why they delayed the trip, they SHOT you!”
“I can do the ointment.” “No you can’t!”
“The most important person in my life...”
Alright, as per usual I got ENTIRELY carried away, but anyway there ya go. Hope at least one of you gets amusement out of it, lol! And feel free to comment/"Ask” your own thoughts!
Happy “More McHart is only 25 hours away!” -E

Reflecting on McHart: 3x09 (Between the lines)
The second to last reflection of the season, the final between the lines edition... where has this season gone?!
First off: Okay, but is Diane still microdosing??? ‘Cause that lil chat with her laptop? ...I don’t know, guys, I don’t know.
Second: “We know about your husband...”
While it totally makes sense here, with this group (clearly, given they use it as a threat of sorts), I wonder how often she has deliberately ‘hidden’ (for lack of a better word) Kurt/his politics from acquaintances. And vice-versa with Kurt and his acquaintances. I imagine it would make life easier and... less painful? for them. Most people won’t get it, won’t know or care about the other wonderful qualities of their spouse and may harshly criticize both of them, and it’s always difficult hearing people speak poorly of the ones you love. That being said, they are so in it with one another and I think they had to at least somewhat move past taking criticism on their relationship to heart long ago--they are who they are as a couple and nothing else, no one else’s opinions, matter. So maybe they are open about it all. Further, I wonder if how often they ‘hide’ their spouse has changed since their reconciliation. Just some musings.
As for the final scene and the promo for the finale, you can find my thoughts in a response here. It’s looking like it’ll be an intense finale, so let’s all get ready for the ride! We’re less than 30 hours away!

Reflecting on McHart: 3x07 (Between the lines... for the last(?) time!)
For what I hope will be that last time of the season, comin’ at ya with the last of the between the lines McHart reflections!
1. Staring off, again it’s not exactly relating to McHart, but it is relating to the what I’ve been talking about over the last few of these things, and so... Where’s Maia??? I really was looking forward to seeing more of the relationship between her and Diane as well as potentially Kurt (I didn’t actually think she’d move in with them, but thought we might get something), but not only are we not getting any of that, but the girl is generally nowhere to be found! Look, I was never really thrilled that she was given more screen time and greater storylines than Diane in season 1 (after they had pitched Diane as the main lead, and that it was her spinoff), but this is cold. My heart goes out to any and all of you Maia stans out there!
2. Throughout this episode I was really thinking about how Kurt might feel about it all--it was problematic for Diane (...until it wasn’t any longer, haha), and Kurt is even more morally centered than her, so I think that it’ll be really interesting to see how this all plays out in this next episode (JUST HOURS AWAY).
How do you all think Kurt will react to learning about what Diane’s been up to?
12 and a half hours and counting! -E
P.S. In regards to Christine’s past remarks on Kurt being in 7 episodes this season, I’ve seen some around the Good-isphere a little riled and just wanted to take a quick little minute to address it. Look, she may have misspoken, or she very well (more likely) may not have. Television moves fast, things change, what was intended (and therefore a truth being spoken at the time) back in November/December can be entirely different a few months down the road because circumstance change--it could’ve been availability, adjustment of storytelling, simply a change of mind. Sometimes these things work in your favor (like when actor Bryan Brown couldn’t finish shooting his second episode of TGW in season 3 and they brought in Gary Cole to finish... possibly the only reason we have McHart today!), sometimes they don’t. But Kurt will be back tonight and let’s all just be grateful for that! ...And keep our fingers crossed for the following episodes ;)

Reflecting on McHart: 3x02
Well, my post on last week’s episode was well received (thanks for all of the likes and replies!) and this week’s episode gave us SO MUCH, so I’m back with another post breaking down and delving into every little thing relating to Mr. and Mrs. McVeigh! (Yes, I did just say that.) And I essentially do mean everything, because my God, this thing is so freaking long it is absolutely ridiculous and I am so sorry... but you should all definitely read anyway ‘cause I spent too much damn time on this for you to not, LOL! (What a pitch, that was! HA!)
Once again, spoilers below! Hope you enjoy!!!
Breaking down scenes:
1. Diane is doing a full on investigation because she is still determined to find out exactly what happened when her husband was shot by the lil Trumpkins, NDA be damned! He’s told her he’s fine, I’m sure that at this point she can see herself that he’s fine... but she still just needs to know every detail of what happened because THEY SHOT HER HUSBAND AND THEY CANNOT JUST GET AWAY WITH IT JUST LIKE THAT. And yeah... I’m sure the politics factor in too, but I think that most of it is genuinely her grappling with how these men boys shot him and acted like nothing happened, silenced him. I think it breaks her heart a little bit and she just needs some kind of justice, even if it only means her herself learning the truth.
2. His little “bows,” oh my heart! And I very intentionally used quotations because he really just tied little ribbons around the bottles with little knots, but HE TRIED. Oh, he tried! And if he’s this helpless here, then that definitely means that every gift we’ve seen him give her he’s taken to be professionally wrapped, which I really don’t think is a Kurt thing at all, but he knows she does appreciate things like nicely wrapped gifts and he just wants things to be so nice and pretty and perfect for herrrrrr. Also, I feel as though Kurt is thoughtful, but not necessarily romantic, but they’ve been working towards creating this life together for so long now and it’s finally here, and so this man that hates anything “girly” decided that he and his wife have something to celebrate, and you know what would make this news even better, what will make her happy? Little bows. (And she is delighted!) But he’s not very good with those. BUT HE TRIES. Ugh.
3. “Are we celebrating?” “We are. We got a job.” WE. I mean, he got a job, but apparently he’s using “we” ‘cause they’re a unit and they share victories and also it means that THEY FINALLY HAVE THIS LIFE THAT THEY’VE BEEN FIGHTING FOR TOGETHER. And she’s so excited for him and she does that little, bitty, mini fist pump, but then you can see how deflated and concerned she suddenly is when it occurs to her that perhaps it will take him away, BUT NO, IT’S BASED IN CHICAGO AND OH MY GOODNESS SHE IS SO ELATED AND SO IS HE.
4. “Yes, Mrs. McVeigh.” “Oh!...  Mr. McVeigh!” “Well, uh, you might decide it’s time to take my name.” SO MUCH TO UNPACK HERE, OH MY GOOD LORD!!!! Breaking this whole exchange down into subparts, okay?
    a. When he refers to her as Mrs. McVeigh, there’s no significant reaction from her, meaning THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME HE HAS REFERRED TO HER AS MRS. McVEIGH!!!!! So just how often does he refer to her as such? Does she ever refer to herself as Mrs. McVeigh? What happened the first time he uttered those words to her? How often is Mrs. McVeigh used as foreplay? I need to know all of these things!
    b. For a singular kiss, that was a good kiss, guys--a solid liplock. And her hand on his cheek and his arm around her back that slowly moves up higher and higher to the back of her neck to pull her in closer, then her “Mmm...” as they pull apart? YES, I WOULD LIKE MORE OF THIS CONTENT IN THE FUTURE, PLEASE.
    c. And between kisses, he’s talking but they’re still holding each other so close and sort of swaying in each other’s arms and looking at each other with such adoration and joy, and my God, those two are so in love and so happy with one another and YES, THIS IS EVERYTHING THEY DESERVE, AND DAMN IT, IT IS EVERYTHING THAT WE DESERVE TOO.
    d. Taking his name. She might “decide” it’s time to take his name. Even while joking he's respectful of the fact that it is very much so her decision! And he is, in fact, joking--surely he would be honored and thrilled if she did so, but he’s not making a serious pitch here, he’s fully accepting of her decision and not at all pushing.
...That being said though, I wonder if this is something that bothers him at all, deep down. Again, he obviously accepts her decision and I’m sure he knew very well that that was going to be the case before it was even discussed. However, he is very much a man’s-man, and he has conservative leanings (also see my notes from last week’s post, in point 8), and I think it wouldn’t be entirely shocking to discover that deep down there is a part of him that wishes she would take his name (even if only to have that bond of sharing a name). I don’t know if he has ever broached the subject seriously in the past (again, I’m sure her keeping her name was an assumption from the start), but I think it wouldn’t be totally surprising if he (or perhaps she???) carefully brought it up once she retired (if that day ever comes, lol), when there were fewer practical reasons for her to keep her name. Or perhaps, if it actually is something that bothers him (and it very well may not), he’ll still forever keep it buried within because he’d never want to pressure her in any way, and though a part of him wishes they could have that, another part of him loves her for being a strong woman who has worked hard and built her name/reputation and wants to keep that identity intact in every way. ...Just some thoughts.
5. "Is it possible for you to get past your hatred for them?" Point taken, Kurt, but also... THEY LITERALLY SHOT YOU. (It's not just political! ...Though it is that too, haha.) Does he keep forgetting that??? Also, we haven't had all that many opportunities to see his protective side, but I have a feeling that, if their roles were reversed, he'd have a little trouble getting past someone shooting his wife and delaying medical attention, too!
6. "Can we just be happy for a minute?" Are we slowly spiraling from (or into?) that season-opening scene? (Update: Christine Baranski actually talked about this a bit in a video posted by The Good Fight)
7. SHE THOUGHT SHE’D SURPRISE HIM WITH COMING HOME EARLY.
8. Their whole little exchange, their repartee, is so adorable! ...But also, within that, they’re joking around about him going on a date with two other women (and Diane brought it up) and I think that really speaks to where they are in having moved past the whole Holly ordeal. (Again, while she had suspicions last week, they were based on his legitimate lies, which makes those suspicions totally valid.)
9. And we get both a “Whoa-ho, you look sexy,” and a “What’s up, handsome?” in under 60 seconds, and then there’s her tucking in his shirt and fixing his tie, and also, since when is Diane like a foot shorter than him??? LOL! Oh my God, I love it so much!
And, well, Kurt tried to keep her away, but no such luck! HA! And I think the poor man knew it was over as soon as she declared she was coming. AND OH, THAT SARCASM AND SASS I LOVE IT!!! And I think I said this last week too, but while it may annoy him a bit at times, Kurt definitely loves it too!
10. Oh, Kurt and his pre-Republican function pep talks! He tries... he knows his wife and he’s gotta at least try. It doesn’t work, of course, clearly. But he tries. And then apparently after a certain point of it not working he resorts to subtly stepping on his wife’s foot to get his message across, LOL!!!
I must admit, I really love the irony that she’s having a way better time at this Republican fundraiser than he is, haha. ...You know what I love more though? How uncomfortable Kurt looks that entire time. Look, I’m sure that some of it has to do with Diane, but I think a lot of it has to do with his morals alone. He may be conservative politically, but he’s not down with racist bullshit, so at least we’ve got that going for us. ...Or, rather, he’s got it going for him.
11. *Siiiighhh* Kurt is such a party pooper! But okay, real talk though... how confident are we that Diane actually deleted that recording? Cause look, I want to be confident, but... Diane is in a certain kind of place these days and I would not quite put it past her to have deleted another random recording instead. But I hope not. Because, really guys, could you both please just do the honesty thing this time around???
Anyway, assuming that she wasn’t bullshitting him, I find that whole thing very sweet. Yes, she had her fun, but she sees that perhaps she’s pushed it just a bit too far for her husband and she gives in, deleting it, to make him rest easier.
(As your resident McHart investigator, I looked closely at the deletion and 1) the file is only 9 seconds, which seems a little short 2) ...The file name still exists in there after it’s “deleted”??? There also weren’t any recordings above it though, so that’s something, meaning it was likely the latest. ...All of that being said, I would not advise reading too much into it because it’s graphics and her phone also reads 12:01 PM (when it is clearly not noon) as well as shows 80% battery--the latter is totally plausible, of course, but also doesn’t seem entirely legit either, ya feel?)
12. THEY ARE IN BED HOLDING HANDS FOR THE SECOND TIME IN AS MANY EPISODES, WHO DOES THAT?!?!?! (OUR SHIP DOES THAT and I am HERE FOR IT, HOLY SHIT, WHY ARE THEY SO ADORABLLLLE) And then her little 🎶 Back together agaaain... 🎶 I can’t. SO FREAKING CUTE. On that note though, it also felt oddly narrative to me, as though it was a sort of nod to the audience. I’m not sure if it was because it sort of punctuated the scene--their scenes of the episode--if it was the sing-song tone, or how it ended with a blackout, but yeah... it just felt like somewhat of a statement to me. Anyone else get that vibe? (I’m obviously not going to weigh this too heavily, but just thought I’d share how I read it all.)
Standout Lines:
“Hans and Franz, your safari buddies...”
“...Their baby zebra barbecue that they scheduled?!”
“...And that trumps everything else.” “Oh, DON’T USE THAT WORD!” “And that’s more important than anything else.” “ERRRRRR...” *MOMENT OF APPRECIATION FOR KURT’S FACES THROUGHOUT THIS EXCHANGE*
“Oh, I’m coming.” “Diane...”
“Eric and Don?! I have lived my life for this moment! Oh! ...Ooh, what should I wear?” *Got this whole damn thing italicized cause that sarcasm tho
“Me?? I’m just here to be a supportive spouse!” “Uh-huh.”
Other things:
I need that plaid wrap of Diane’s in my life!
We’ve seen Kurt in a white button-down both last week and this week (with only seeing him in one in a single other instance in nine past seasons, on their wedding day) and look, I’m not complaining, but... idk, it feels weird?
I’m going to spare you all a solid two paragraphs on the closet situation (...for now, anyway), but just... the closet situation.
By the end of this season I’m definitely gonna need a Diane-in-Pajamas roundup post.
Why are they always (and by always I of course mean in the two scenes we’ve had of them sleeping in bed thus far) only under the sheet with no duvet??? Does anyone else sleep like that on a regular basis (when not in a tropical climate/it isn’t summer)? I certainly don’t and no one else in the Good-verse has (including them in the past), so WHY IS THIS A THING?!?! Totally appreciate Kurt's shirtless sleeping habit though.
Was kind of hoping the axe throwing was going to start out as a cute McHart date night, but I suppose Diane getting out her aggressions is nice too. ...But I would 110% not be opposed to her bringing him along one evening!
In conclusion:
Guys. The unintelligible noises and flaling that came from me while watching this episode... I could. not. deal. Their scenes were all just so entirely lovely. And after everything (and by everything I don’t only mean the Good Wife finale aftermath, but also how drawn out their relationship was before that) it’s so wonderful and rewarding to see! And it’s funny--I remember a few seasons into TGW I came up with a McHart wishlist of sorts, and now, a few more years (though admittedly quite the journey) down the road and... I think that just about everything has been checked off??? (...Except for her wearing one of his shirts. And given they’ve got her in fancy robes and pajamas and slippers WITH HEELS this year, I’m not gonna hold my breath on that one, lol.) HOW LUCKY ARE WE?!?!? (Still could’ve gone without that affair though, and I’m still bitter.)
What’s still on your McHart wishlist?!?! (DON’T JUST TELL ME A SEX SCENE GUYS THOUGH. COME ON, ISN’T THAT ON JUST ABOUT EVERYONE’S LIST?!?! Be a little more creative! LOL!)
It’s looking like no McHart next week but WE STILL HAVE SO MANY MORE EPISODES TO COME!!! ...Two down, five to go!
Now, with that, this has gone on for long enough (too long,) and so, I’ll wish you all a good week! As always, fell free to message via ask or reply!
-E
...Oh, and once again, I am so sorry that this was so long! ...But, hey, I guess the last one was pretty long too, and you all seemed to like that one just fine, haha.

Reflecting on McHart: 3x03 (Between the lines)
Ah, what the hell! Kurt may not have been in the episode, but let’s do a mini, reading-between-the-lines reflection for 3x03 anyway!
1. Can we just talk about how, yes, they’re fully committed now and ready to live together, spend their lives together... but they still have their own things. I mean, Diane is running about at all hours, day after day, and Kurt is (well, assumably) totally cool with it. Further, Diane is fine leaving Kurt for hours in the evenings--she’s not overwhelmingly concerned that he’ll take advantage of the time and cheat again. That balance. That trust. They really are starting over!
2. A moment of appreciation for the fact that everyone is listed with their first and last names in Diane’s phone (Liz is even listed as Elizabeth Reddick-Lawrence)... but then Kurt is just Kurt--her Kurt--nothing further required. I just love the simplicity and familiarity in it. (Though, apparently, he still doesn’t quiiite rate the top spot in her favorites, haha.)
Tumblr media
3. Have we ever seen Diane wearing such a dainty necklace before???
Tumblr media
Anyway, I like to think that this is the kind of jewelry that Kurt might buy her. He knows she loves jewelry and he does feel the desire to buy her a piece every now and then. But the larger, more fashion-forward stuff she usually wears to the office he wouldn’t even attempt--he has no clue. The smaller stuff though, he likes to think he has a better idea of her taste... and it’s just generally harder to go wrong. Besides, that’s the kind of jewelry she tends to to wear on the weekends, and/or when they’re out at the farm, or when they’re on vacation--when it’s just the two of them--and so he likes to buy jewelry that they can sort of enjoy together, you know? A thoughtful gift for those more thoughtful moments between them rather that some flashy thing to show off to the world.
4. Not exactly McHart but I just had to bring it up anyway... IS DIANE MICRODOSING AGAIN?!?!?! ‘Cause last we knew she had been on her first refill and shortly after that had dumped a vile. So why did she still have some in her desk??? And because this is a McHart post on a McHart blog, let me pose these questions: Does Kurt know? (Did he even find out/was he told about when she had been microdosing before, when it had been starting to become a bit of a habit problem?) How might this affect their relationship (especially now with all of this stuff with the Trumpkins)? And on a lighter note... microdosed sex???
Alright, that’s all I’ve got, LOL! It’s looking like Kurt won’t be in next week’s episode again, but fingers crossed for the next! (But hey, I guess we’re getting out those gap episodes early? So we’ll that many more in a row later!)
Have a good week! -E

Reflecting on McHart: 3x05 (Between the lines)
Okay. Take two. Let’s do this.
1. Diane Lockhart confirmed that she likes to sing! So I need to know the following: How often does she sing at home? When was the first time Kurt heard her singing? Does she ever sing to him? Does she ever try to goad him into singing as well and he gets a little grumpy but also is so in love with her and her playful side and just maybe every once in a while she succeeds? Or does he actually rather like singing too and sometimes he’ll sing around and to her? I need to see his face listening to her singing! To sum this point up, CAN WE PLEASE SEE MORE OF DIANE SINGING WHILE AT HOME AND WITH KURT?!?!?!
2. Not entirely on topic McHart-wise, but relating to my post from last week and my next point, I NEED FOR MAIA TO KNOW HOW MUCH DIANE DOES IN FACT VERY MUCH SO CARE ABOUT HER, LOVE HER, HOW MUCH SHE FOUGHT FOR HERRRR. And just... my God, the woman was practically in tears when she approached her at the end of the last episode, she’s the only one who’s truly looked out for her over the last few years, HOW IS IT THAT MAIA DOESN’T KNOW HOW MUCH SHE MEANS TO HER ALREADY???? (...Also, not gonna lie, I was really thinking/hoping that it was going to be Diane at Maia’s door at the end there.)
3. Now, I don’t necessarily think that this will happen (though I do think there’s some degree of possibility), but with Maia broke and (assumably) packing up to move at the end of the episode, how sweet would it be to see her moving in with Diane and Kurt until she gets back on her feet (you know, if she ever answers one of Diane’s freaking calls)??? To see those dynamics--the three as a surrogate-family unit, more of Diane and Maia, Kurt and Maia! Oh, my heart!
Now, no signs of Kurt in the promo or pics for 3x06, but according to Baranski’s announcement back in December that Gary would be in 7 episodes this season, if all went as planned, we should be seeing him in this next episode and throughout the remainder of the season, HALLELUJAH!!! And we’ll know for sure before long, because the new episode is only HOURS AWAY!!! Enjoy!
-E P.S. Sorry for this week’s delay--check my last post if you’re interested in the why.

Reflecting on McHart: 3x06 (Between the lines... again)
First and foremost, wow, I was very thrown by and did not appreciate those images of Megan Hilty (but not as Holly Westfall???) being carelessly thrown in there like that! RUDE. (Absolutely nothing against Megan Hilty the person/actress, but it’s the context, ya know? ...It also felt a bit like they were breaking the fourth wall.)
And no Kurt. And no sign of him in the promo for next week (doesn’t mean he won’t be in it, of course, but it’s not exactly promising, either). I feel lied to, lol! I TRUSTED YOU, CHRISTINE BARANSKI!!! HA! (Look, I’m sure that was the information that was given to her and was accurate at the time, but it was also recorded probably November/December and I know things change... but STILL.)
Also no Maia, which blows out most of what I’ve been talking about over the last two episodes and certainly points to her having not moved in with Kurt and Diane (which, again, I didn’t necessarily think was going to happen, but thought was at least somewhat of a possibility and certainly would’ve been delightful to see). And has she answered any of Diane’s calls yet??? Who knows. We don’t!
And, ummm... now that Diane’s getting all those fancy axes of her own, I guess Kurt really does need to build her her own range!
And that’s all I have, I think. Fingers crossed for some McHart again next week, for all of our sake’s, certainly... but also for the sake of these posts! Good lord, I feel the need to keep up with this now, but it was only supposed to be three episodes! ...And I kind of imagined they’d be spread out a bit. But here we are with the fourth in a row and now they’re dragging and I’m running out of things to talk about and so if you’re still here and following along, both kudos and thanks to you!
Quick question to finish off though: This episode dragged a bit for me--did anyone else feel that? Do you think it was more because of the episode itself or simply because there was a promise of McHart but I/we were left wanting?
Happy Almost Friday! -E

Okay, but WHERE AM I EVEN SUPPOSED TO START IN TALKING ABOUT McHART IN THE LATEST EPISODE??!?!? THE DOMESTICITY, THE LOVE, I CAAAAAAN'T.
We are blessed fans.
Will report back with a full reflection once I can pull myself together enough to think straight and have rewatched every scene a minimum of 20 times.
That's all for now.

Blogging through hiatus... suggestions?
We are officially into hiatus! ...And it’s going to be a long one. That being said, I’d like to continue to stay relatively active around here! ...But I’m still thinking on the how.
When I started this blog back four and a half years ago (good God, has it really been that long???), it looked very different than it does now--I was posting a drabble each day (originally matching word count with day count) and in fact, it was comprised almost entirely of drabbles. Of course, things didn’t quite go as planned and I adapted my methods and goals as well as took long hiatuses of my own when life pulled me away (...or when a lack of inspiration pushed me away). It was then in September of 2017 that I wrapped up with my drabble counts, proceeded to take a year long hiatus from the blog, then came back 8 months ago and have been... sort of finding my way--a new normal--since, through prompts, and OTP Ask memes, and reflections, and more. As we make our way through hiatus though, without new The Good Fight/McHart content to help carry me, I’m not entirely sure how I intend to keep active. And so I’d like your input!
Certainly I’ll continue to be open to comments/questions and I intend on continuing to work on In Sickness and, following its completion, the remainder of the prompts I received wayyyy back in the Fall. Beyond that though, I’m not entirely sure... I do have a few ideas, but I’d like to hear from you all first!
So... what kind of content would you like to see on this blog over these next months? Please let me know any ideas you might have (via reply, ask, message, whatever), whether it’s more of something I’ve been doing or something entirely new. I can’t promise that I’ll carry out all suggestions, but I can promise that I’ll seriously consider each and every one!
Thanks in advance! -E
