Some outfit exploration for my OC Chime, a Tibetan nomad! She's the best lil guy for me to play around with the concept of lengthy braids that can be wrapped around your neck. Technically a women's chuba (Tibetan robe) goes down to one's feet, but Chime only has access to the one from her childhood, so it's easily mistaken as men's :D (oh, and the gas mask? don't worry about it<3

Can I, uh, also really recommend that folks download the show? Not that I would ever advocate such a thing, but also...y'know...if you were the sort of person who did that, that might be a good idea...

I was barely even involved in the arg, I would duck my head into the server every week or so and have my brain melted with horrors beyond my comprehension and then I caught up on everything after it finished, but I feel like I'm possessed of arcane secret knowledge. these guys don't even know about klaus.xls. they don't even know about the 20k words of german forum posts on a ddr expat message board. they don't even know about chdb.xlsx. they don't even know about colin's first canonical appearances. they don't even know about BONZO.

Why You Should Read Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett
Emily, a Cambridge professor of dryadology travels to a remote Scandinavian town to study a previously unstudied type of faerie, in order to complete the Encycopaedia she is working on
When her colleague and academic rival, Wendall Brambleby also shows up, getting in her way and infuriating her, Emily and Wendall must work together to uncover the secrets of the faeries.
This book is like if Howls Moving Castle and Spinning Silver had a child?
Emily and Wendall give major Howl and Sophie vibes. Wendall is a dramatic, over the top sliterer-outer (and may not be all that he seems). Emily is a bit of a curmudgeon, not a people person, and dedicated to her work.
This book is a journal format, and we are reading Emily's journal recounting the experience
Footnotes!
This is a winter read through and through
Cozy-fantasy that is set during the Edwardian era, although parts can get a little bit dark (that's just how faeries are though)
the Faerie in this book reminded me a lot of the the staryk from Spinning Silver, so if you like that type of faerie, this book is for you
This book is a love letter to fairy tales, faeries, and folklore
A lovable dog companion, lesbian side characters
Changelings, brownies, Winter Kings and Faerie Princes, enchantments
This book is just clever and neat, and really opens up a lot of potential for other books
All in all, I loved it, and I think you should read it too!

Instead of "20 books to $50k" or "how to increase readership by writing and publishing a book every month that is exactly like every other popular book out there," I need the kind of marketing advice that goes along the lines of, "hey, here's how to get a modest fanbase and sell enough books to justify this as a side gig without having to go crazy and spend more than you earn on marketing." Because honestly, all the advice I find these days either a) requires me to put way more time and money into marketing than I am able to do, or b) requires me to write fast and sloppy in very specific sub-genres, and that's really not why I write stories.
And like Emily Starr, I would--and will--continue to write stories regardless of how many people read them, but it would be nice to be able to reach more than a dozen readers, and to be able to reasonably look on my writing as a part-time job rather than an expensive hobby.
(It doesn't help that there are so many articles out there claiming that self-publishing is dead! It's gotten too bloated and now only a handful can make a living off it! But wait--traditional publishing is also dead! It's gotten too greedy and now only a handful can make a living off it! Mid-level authors? Whether traditionally published or self-published, they apparently no longer exist)

LISA FRANKENSTEIN (2024)
This movie was so fucking good. The casting, the sets, the costumes, everything was absolutely flawless. I admittedly was a little bit hesitant when I realized Cole Sprouse was one of the leads but props to him he did a fantastic job. He took this hunched up mute corpse that's full of worms and gave him so much character through expression and gestures. The portrayal couldn't have been better even if he was allowed to talk. And Kathryn Newton also absolutely nailed Lisa. She's fucking nuts and I love her. Together, their chemistry was beautiful. The humor and execution of the jokes had me laughing out loud, and seeing "beloved wife" written on the gravestone made me cry. This film has everything in it, and I am not gonna be surprised at all when it eventually becomes a cult classic. Everyone needs someone who treats them like the creature did Lisa and should never settle for anything else. Also the creature said Trans rights so terfs be fucked

Great news -
Kathleen Folbigg, who was convicted of murdering her four young children, had her conviction quashed today. The NSW Court of Criminal Appeal found that new scientific evidence showing the children died of natural causes - genetic abnormalities, which two of the four children had - meant her guilt was no longer 'beyond reasonable doubt.'
Folbigg's ex-husband handed her diary to police to facilitate her original conviction; in her diary, she wrote about her difficult childhood and her struggles to cope with motherhood. Her ex-husband remains convinced that she murdered the children (but refuses to provide any genetic information to test if the other two children also had life-threatening genetic abnormalities).
Folbigg would likely still be imprisoned if not for the relentless campaigning of her friends, in particular of Tracy Chapman.
