This verse is just almost exactly the same as John 3:16-17. God keeps on repeating these kinds of thoughts and statements for us to understand and to be reminded that there are only two options we have. There are only two options we can choose from before we can really say that we are living. Either are you in Christ or you are not?
We may think that this is a very easy question. We can just answer that we are in Him but is Christ in us? We have to understand that it is not enough that we claim that we are in Christ because claiming doesn’t mean we believe. It is just like claiming a lost and found item even if we really don’t own it.
Our salvation is also like that. We sometimes think that claiming salvation will save us already. Shallowly claiming that we are in Him without believing is not saving us. We are just like saying yes without even understanding the depth of it. God said in the verse that there will be no condemnation to the people who are in Christ doesn’t mean that shallowly claiming we are in Him counts us in.
God wants us to understand that we are in Christ when we truly believe and understand what He did on the cross for us. We should claim and believe instead of just claiming. Claiming we are in Christ must come with believing. Being saved is indeed through our faith in Jesus Christ. God has planted us seeds of faith in our hearts so that we will not have a hard time believing in Jesus Christ.
However, it is very visible also into this verse that there are only two options. Either we are in Him or we are not. If we are in Christ Jesus then there will be no condemnation for us. Jesus died on the cross for us already and has received the condemnation we rightfully deserve for our stead. He already took all the wrath of God, died and defeated death when He rose again. Claiming, believing and putting our trust in this Gospel will make us a brand new person and we will start living our lives Christ-like.
We should also be warned that true faith in Him will really manifest in our lives and will really make us new creations so if we are still living our lives as our old self, we should assess ourselves again. Are we really claiming and believing that we are in Him? Or are we just claiming without believing? We don’t want to be impostors who claim that we are heirs but we truly are not.
Again, we are all entitled to become children of God for Christ’s death made us sons and daughters of God through the adoption process made possible by the shedding of the blood of Jesus. However, we should also be warned that we sometimes claim we are God’s children but we are living as illegitimates (Hebrews 12:7-12). Therefore, let us always remember to claim and believe. Claiming that we are in Christ and truly believing that we are in Christ.
The second option is that we are not in Him. If we are not in Him then there will be condemnation. Again, it is just only through Jesus Christ that we can escape the condemnation and wrath of God. He is our scapegoat that was sacrificed for our forgiveness. God has already forgiven us and has welcomed us into His kingdom and has promised us eternal life through Jesus Christ. It is only through Him.
Therefore, if we are in Him, if we truly believe that Jesus Christ died for us and has saved us from our sins then there is no condemnation for us. The salvation Jesus Christ is offering is for everybody and if we only believe in Him we will be saved. After this, repentance will follow that will allow us to fully submit in God’s will and to let Him lord our lives. It will then allow God to fulfill His promises in our lives as we continue to live our lives with Christ being our center. As we live with Christ being our center, it will then manifest in our lives, we will become a new creation and we will then be able to love our neighbors just as God loves us.
May we always remember this and be reminded that we will no longer receive condemnation because we are in Him. We will no longer receive the wrath of God even if we deserve it because Christ already took it all for us. Let us always remember to hold on into this promise and also continue to strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ through meditating on His Word.

The whole chapter talks about God’s blessings for forgiveness. Yet, one question we should ask ourselves first before celebrating, what happened to the guilt? What happened to the feelings we felt before we are forgiven and the anxieties we have before we are declared ‘not guilty’ anymore? What happened to ‘owning up our mistakes’ principle?
For a simple thought, it is very right to just say that they are completely flushed down long ago since God has already forgiven us and that we should not live in our past. True! God has promised to count our sins no more and in fact, the other day’s reflection was all about not receiving condemnation anymore if we are in Christ.
However, we are thinking in a different kind of outlook sometimes. We think that we will be able to grasp the depth of forgiveness by just celebrating the gift without acknowledging the cause. It is necessary for us to understand that in order to celebrate and deeply understand the depth of forgiveness is to know the burden of the guilt or to know the gravity of our mistakes.
God’s blessings of forgiveness should drive us to confess our sins. Celebrating the outcome without itemizing the cause of it is just the same as celebrating the income of a business without acknowledging the expenses— shallow and obnoxious. The blessings of forgiveness are not the ‘obnoxious and shallow’ but it is us. God’s blessings of forgiveness is grace and mercy that was made possible by Christ’s shedding of blood.
However, we are making it cheap and shallow by just celebrating it without really knowing the gravity of importance of why Jesus has to die. It is indeed a celebration that God has already forgave us from our sins but this should also impel us to confess our sins. True repentance means truly understanding true forgiveness.
So what happened to guilt and anxieties? What happened to the ‘owning up to our mistakes’ principle? The answer is, it has already been lifted to God the moment we confessed it! We should not let the message of forgiveness overwhelm us to commit sins without being guilty because we know that God’s blessings of forgiveness is unending, instead we should use these blessings as a reminder for us to not commit any sins.
Again, understanding forgiveness deeply should really make us confess our sins and depart from our sinful nature. Understanding God’s blessings of forgiveness means we understand how much suffering, guilt, shame and pain Jesus has to undergo for us. We should understand that David wrote this Psalm with a deep understanding of God's blessings. We too, are expected to understand that forgiveness and our sins being covered is not our license to sin.
We must always remember that the thing that was used to cover our sins was too expensive because it was the blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. We are not just saved through a cheap price and we are not given a cheap grace. In fact, these blessings are very expensive and these are expensive grace because it was personally paid by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Therefore, may we always reflect on this and be blessed for we are so blessed by God’s forgiveness and that our sins are already covered by the blood of Jesus Christ. However, we must not use this as an excuse or a reason for us to continue sinning. We must not ‘not feel guilty’ as we sin just because we are forgiven. We must not make sinning as a norm where we can just get a free pass card after. We must not sin just because we have forgiveness to look forward to. Instead, we should use these blessings of forgiveness as our driving courage to confess our sins to God one by one and understand the depth of knowledge lying behind our unlimited forgiveness.
May we always remember the cause of this outcome and be reminded that though we are celebrating forgiveness, the cause of this is our sins which cost us the blameless and holy life of Jesus Christ. May we not only celebrate the income we are receiving but we must also identify that to have this grace and income we have now, it was because at Christ’s expense. And Christ had to die because we are sinners and enemies of God. Again, these blessings of forgiveness would’ve been a fairytale without Christ who made all of these possible.
How blessed we are that our sins are forgiven at the expense of Christ! Let us therefore, live our lives pleasing to God’s eyes and living it Christ-like.

This whole chapter of Isaiah 26 talks about a song of praise with an intent of declaring that he trusts God’s provision and the restoration of Israel into walking in righteousness and peace. Isaiah declares that one day will come that Israel will be redeemed and restored into God’s perfect peace and righteousness. For if their hearts are focused on God, His peace will envelop them.
Indeed! This is also like us today. If we set our eyes and our hearts in Christ, we will too have peace and righteousness. We will be flooded with inner peace and we will walk in righteousness. For peace and righteousness are together and dependent on each other. However, we can never have these two without Christ.
We can only find true peace and righteousness in Christ the perfecter of our faith. In Psalm we read that peace and righteousness kissed each other. As we walk and let Christ’s righteousness embrace us, we will also find peace with God. Same as, if we have found peace in God, we will be able to walk in righteousness for a heart that is in peace will desire righteousness.
Furthermore, this is two kinds of peace. The peace that means the ending of God’s wrath towards mankind and the peace that means complete reliance and the complete feeling of being at ease in God’s hand. The first peace we are talking about is the ending of God’s wrath. Meaning that this peace was made possible by Jesus Christ. Just like the declaration of faith of Isaiah that Israel will be restored in God, we too will find complete restoration with Him.
For sins will give us a big edge with God, but through Jesus Christ, He restored our communication with God. He ripped that big curtain of sin that is dividing us and God. Through Jesus Christ, God’s wrath was no longer there because He had received it all. Therefore, the peace WITH God means the restoration of our relationship with God.
The second peace is the peace we will feel when we are already restored with God. It is the peace IN God. Being in God’s wings, we will feel at peace even in the midst of chaos. This peace will be gained the moment we will put our steadfast trust in God through the death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God will give us the peace that transcends all understanding.
So, as we have these two kinds of peace, it will then result into living a righteous life in Christ. Again, this will never be possible by our own deeds but it is only possible through Christ. As you can observe, Jesus Christ is always part of the equation because it is indeed, only through Him!
Therefore, let us trust in God for we will be able to keep in perfect peace. If our minds and hearts are steadfast in Him, we will be able to keep in perfect peace. Let us always remember that it is only through Christ we will be able to have these and through Him we will finally say that we are at peace. May we always trust God’s process and promises as we live our lives in perfect righteousness in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
