“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” - Romans 15:13
Paul's prayer for the Christians in Rome found in this verse is often used in churches today as a closing benediction. It is a powerful statement about what God can do in the heart and mind of every Christian.
Paul makes this request of the God of hope, another beautiful name for God. He is the only lasting source of hope we have for meaning in this life, and for a life beyond death. Paul asks that the God of hope fill these believers with all joy and peace "in believing" or as they trust in Him. In other words, Paul is not asking God to simply dump joy and peace into their hearts without cause. He is asking that as these believers trust in God, their faith will bring joy and peace to their hearts. In other words, help them to keep believing so that they can experience joy and peace.
Finally, Paul asks that they might have this joy and peace in believing so that they may abound with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Paul is asking God to give them more than just regular human hopefulness. He is asking for supernatural, Holy Spirit-powered hopefulness.
What a fantastic prayer to ask God for others or for ourselves. What more could we wish for other believers than to be filled with joy and peace and abounding in hope?

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” - Jeremiah 29:13
The preceding verse of our verse today is a very popular verse. This is usually used or wished every time someone who is close to us celebrates their birthday. However, people usually just look at that verse and ignore everything else. Meaning, people only read the promise, and do not read what is after. We have to understand that indeed God has given us a lot of promise and blessings. However, we always claim that we cannot find God, yet we have to understand that He is always there. He never walked away from us, He stayed faithful and He stayed protecting us.
Now, let us understand that the fault is not with God, but it is with us. We cannot find Him because we are not seeking Him, we are not seeking Him with all our hearts. It might be so easy to receive a blessing especially if God promised to prosper us, however, we expect it to be magically given to us. We expect that it will just fall down from the sky. So, that is the wrong part. God is not our personal genie, He is our God and yes, He is a promise keeper. However, we must understand that we should seek Him. How can we find Him tho? We have to know that our verse has given us this answer. If we seek Him with all our hearts, we will find Him.
Seeking God is not just through learning stuff about Him from our grandparents or parents, seeking God means having a close relationship with Him. It’s establishing that deep relationship with Him through the Word. We will never find God in the quotes we post, or in one or two verses we read online. The only way we will find God is through His Word, and if we seek Him through it with all our hearts. Therefore, we should remember that God did not leave us or walked away from us. If we cannot find Him, then maybe we are not seeking Him. Let us therefore search for Him with all our hearts, and build a personal relationship with Him through reading His Word day and night.

“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children” - Ephesians 5:1
One great skill we humans have is the art of imitating. Actually, we are so good with imitating that most of the time we find ourselves fake or we will just then realize that we are not ourselves anymore. Everything we see that we think is good and nice, we always try to imitate it. If one woman has a better sense of fashion than you, then in some way, you imitate it. A lot of people also claim that they are not imitators and they have their own styles, but even if we admit it or not, we love to imitate. Now, the problem here is that even if how good we can imitate, we always don’t want to imitate God’s example.
Instead of using this skill for the greater good, we just don’t want or can’t imitate God’s example. Our verse today is just a reminder for us that we must follow or other translations would use, “imitate” so that we will really have the right understanding of what God really wants us to do. He wants us to imitate His example for we are His children. So, the problem is, no matter how much we imitate other people, if we cannot imitate God’s example, we will never be good or righteous. In other words, we are so easy and fast to imitate others, but we don’t want to imitate God because we know that in our worldly mind, we will never enjoy life.
However, this mindset is very wrong. Before completely imitating God, we have to check if we have the attitude or capability to do so. The reason why it is so easy to imitate worldly things is that, by nature, we are sinful and bound to worldly satisfaction. So, in order to imitate God, our nature should change– we have to change. If we are of the world, that’s why we can imitate the world, then we have to be of God so that we will be able to imitate Him. That is why the last part of our verse today is highlighting how we are children of God. If we are children of God, then we can follow and imitate God’s example.
Therefore, in order to do this, we have to accept Christ as our Lord and Savior. We have to understand that only through Him, we will become children of God. As we become His children, we will then have the strength to follow Him and imitate His example who is Christ our Lord. We can only be called His children through Christ, and we must follow and imitate His life as we live as children of God. Thus, it is Christ alone, and only through Him we can be saved, we can be children of God, and we can have eternal life. Amen and amen.

“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” - Psalm 18:2
David was known to be a man after own God’s heart, with our verse today, we will understand his relationship with God. He described God in a lot of ways which shows how deep was his relationship with God. Now, we all know that David was a fighter, and with his description of God, we can see that he was a fighter, and in every battle he faced, he fought with God. He declared that the Lord our God is his rock, his fortress, and his deliverer. So, we know that whenever he fought his battles, he saw God as his shield, as his victory, as his refuge, as his strength, and even as his stronghold when times are awful.
Aso, as we reflect on this verse,  we will then realize that we ought to be like David. We must be like David who sees God as his everything. We should not just see God as our God of convenience. We should not just approach God or acknowledge Him when we need Him, or when it is our convenient time to approach Him. Instead, we must see God as our God and Lord of our lives. So, we must not just approach Him when we need Him or when we have time to remember Him. We must always see Him as our God who is always there for us, and we must always depend on Him.
Therefore, we should always keep in mind that as children of God, we depend on Him. We must not try to be so independent because we know that we are nothing without Him. Let us always understand that everything we do, we must always do it for the glory of God. As we fight everyday’s battle, let’s fight it with God. May we always be like David who is a man after own God’s heart. We must always remember to make Him as our rock, our fortress, our strength for we need Him, and indeed we get our strength from Him. Thus, let us always depend on God and get the strength that we need from Him.

“Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart” - Psalm 119:2
Psalm 119 is known as the chapter of Psalm where it encourages us to really hold on to the Word of God. The whole chapter talks about how we should solely depend on the Word of God and let the Word of God minister in us so that we will be able to look directly into Christ and focus on Him. Now, our verse today is part of this beautiful chapter, which reminds us that blessed are those people who keep His statutes and seek Him with all their hearts. We have to understand that we are indeed blessed if we keep the Word of God inside us. After all, He is our shield, He is our Provider, He is our strength, and He is our salvation.
However, a lot of times, we forget that the Word of God is what we need. We only need the Word of God, but most of the time, we choose not to keep His statutes. We choose to chase other things instead of seeking God. A lot of times we are put into a situation where we always choose to chase other things instead of chasing and seeking what God wants us to seek. Instead of seeking God, we seek our dreams, our jobs, our earthly desires, and our sins. That is why God wants to remind us through our verse today that we are so blessed if we keep His statutes. We are so blessed if we continually seek Him.
The reason why we are so blessed is that the Word of God is our way. It is our light during our darkest times, and we need to understand that we must always meditate on it day and night. Now, if we continue to hold and keep the statutes of God, then we will be able to be on the right path and let God save us and bless us. After all, our only way to be on the right path or to keep walking in the way of the Lord is through meditating on the Word and always letting God be the Lord of our lives. So, we must always keep the statutes of the Lord, so we will be guided and we will not forget His commandments.
Therefore, as people of God, we need to keep His statutes of God. He will keep us safe, He will bless us, and we must continue to seek Him. Let us always remember to meditate on His Word for it is our only way to keep on walking in the path of righteousness. Let us have Christ in our hearts and let Him minister to us. Be all glory and honor be unto our God. All praises and adorations belong to Him alone.

“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” - 1 John 3:18
Following his application in verse 17, John summarizes the need for Christians to act on love, not just think about it. It is important to communicate love through our words, but we must also do so through our actions. Jesus gave a similar warning to the Pharisees in Matthew 15:4–9. Just as truly saving faith will produce good works (James 2:17–19), truly loving another person will produce loving actions. This verse once again uses the Greek root word agape, meaning a selfless, sacrificial love.
Jesus not only spoke about love, He provided powerful actions to match His teachings. John 13 offers a clear example in which Jesus washed the feet of His disciples to teach them to serve one another in humility. His death on the cross offered the most powerful evidence of love "in deed and in truth." He endured suffering, ridicule, and death from those who should have recognized Him as the Messiah. Yet His actions also included His resurrection, offering love in action that changed the course of history.

“My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke” - Proverbs 3:11
The Word of God is a library of wisdom and encouragement, that we would do well to heed. One such pearl of sound advice is that chastening is an important way that God deals with His children - for the chastening rod of God develops in us a spiritual maturity and a godly character.
The chastening of the Lord should never be compared with a judge, passing sentence on a criminal but rather as a loving father disciplining his beloved son. The chastening of the Lord is carried out in love and wisdom and for our best interest, in order that we might be partakers of His holiness. He knows the plans that He has for each of our lives and His chastening rod is to ensure that we do not miss out on His best purposes.
As with an earthly father the chastening of the Lord may result from a rebellion and sin, and his disciplines would be to bring us to repentance. At other times His chastening may be used to prepared us for a particular blessing that He desires to give us - but His chastening rod is equipped to do both.
No matter what form the chastening of the Lord takes and no matter how much pain and hurt we may experience - His correction is always carried out in love. So whether our chastening is to correct a disobedient heart or to perfect an obedient walk, let us not despise His chastening of the Lord, nor grow weary of His correction, but rather embrace it for our good and for His glory.

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” - Romans 12:21
As people living in this cruel world, we always try to be good to others, but if people are being cruel, then we tend to retaliate. We see things on an eye-to-eye basis. If someone was being cruel to us, then we will take revenge and treat them badly too. Even if we deny this or not, we know for sure that we are like this and we really retaliate and repay evil with evil. We repay cruelty with cruelty and we don’t even try to be gentle because we are people who will always try to compete even if it’s evil.
However, our verse today reminds us that we must not overcome evil with evil. We should not be overcome by evil, but instead, we must overcome evil with good. Paul is actually always reminding us through his letters what it means to be a Christian, and being a Christian means not letting evil overcome us. Why did Paul assume that we can be overcome by evil in the first place? Well, it is because he knew that we are evil by nature. We have been evil by nature, so it will be so easy for us to be overcome by evil.
The good news is that God has saved us from ourselves. He already saved us from the evil nature, we have and has put the righteousness of Christ in us. So, we will be able to overcome evil. We won’t be overcome by it anymore because God has enabled us to fight it and overcome it. That is why Paul is insisting or reminding us that we must not be overcome by evil, but we must overcome evil with good. We must make sure that evil has no foothold to us, and that we must not see things eye to eye or tooth for a tooth for we are better, and we can do better.
Therefore, we must understand that we are always evil, but since Christ died for us and that He saved us from our evil nature. It is possible for us to not be overcome by evil, but instead, overcome it with good. We must remember to always be gentle and reflect Christ’s goodness in our lives. The most important part of being a Christian is continually living in Christ, so we must live in Christ and reflect His goodness in our lives. After all, He who has no sin has defeated death, so we must remember that we are not victorious over death and sin, so let us remain the path God has provided for us.

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” - Psalm 55:22
During the time of David, we can say that he was really a man after own God’s heart. Although he is not perfect because he got his fair share of sins and compromised situations, he was still called a man after own God’s heart. He was subjected to a lot of trials and adversaries that he knew only God can help him. During those moments of desperation, God always has his back. God was always there to help him, and to rescue him from all adversaries.
Now, our verse today might be an old psalm based on King David’s life, it doesn’t mean that it’s not applicable in our lives today. This promise, this declaration is still very real and applicable to our lives today. We should always remember to cast our cares to the Lord, and He will sustain us. He will never let the righteous be shaken. He will always help us and will always be there for us no matter what. We are awful, we are sinful, and we live in a sinful world, God remains just and loving so He will still carry us through.
Therefore, we must understand that we have unlimited freedom to cast all our cares to God. Let us not carry it all alone, and instead cast it all to God and let Him carry us through it all. He will sustain us, and He will never let us be shaken. Just like how He made sure to save us from our sins through sending His Son Jesus Christ to be our atoning sacrifice. He will really sustain us and will never put us to shame. He will always be there to protect us, comfort us, and give us the love that we can never ever feel and find somewhere else. Thus, let us all be dependent on Him and never forget that He is the Lord of lords and the God of gods.

Paul made no secret of His great love and concern for the believers in Thessalonica. Indeed, throughout all His writings this dear apostle had a deep affection and sincere concern for all the body of Christ.
This particular letter holds a very special place in the canon of Scripture, as it is said to be the first letter of instruction and encouragement that the apostle Paul wrote to any Church. In it he set out the principles and practice for a good and godly Christian life. He wrote to remind them of the hope of rewards at Christ’s return.
Paul’s epistles are filled with wise instruction on how to live the sanctified life of a normal Christian, and often include the name of other brothers and sisters in the faith, who laboured with him, in spreading abroad the gospel of grace. One person that Paul named in certain epistles is Timothy.
Paul knew that the Thessalonian believers had been undergoing some severe persecution and was anxious for their well-being… and so he entrusted Timothy, his faithful fellow-worker, to travel to Thessalonica, to find out how the believers there were getting along – to the establish them in the faith and give them spiritual support and godly encouragement
Paul rejoiced when Timothy returned with the joyful tidings, that they were being established in the faith and well-grounded in the Word, despite the many difficulties and distresses they were facing. May the Lord cause you to increase in your faith and abound in your love for one another, and for all people, was Paul’s heartfelt prayer for them all, just as we also do for you.
Paul continued in prayers and loving intercessions for the saints at Thessalonica – beseeching God the Father Himself and Jesus our Lord to direct and govern their ways – and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, he wrote, and for all people – just as we also do for you.
May we be like Paul, and remember to lift up our fellow Christian brothers and sisters, in continuous and loving prayer and heartfelt intercessions – that their hearts would be also established in the Lord and blameless before Him.. and that they would walk in holiness before our God and Father – encouraging one another as they look for the any-day appearance of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

“He replied, ‘Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.’” - Luke 11:28
Obeying is something everyone can never achieve. Either obey the law or just simply obey what our parents are telling us not to do. It’s very hard, and everyone has a dilemma in making sure that this statement is fulfilled. Although not all are disobedient, there are still people who obey their parents and try their best to obey what our God has told us to do. However, everybody sins, which shows that we are really disobedient and we are really not capable of obeying on our own.
However, what’s the purpose of our verse or all the verses that God is encouraging us to obey? What were all the reasons why He still encourages us to obey if God already knows that we are incapable of that? Well, God is omniscient, of course, He knows that we will have a hard time. That is why He said that the blessed are those who hear the Word of God and obey it. The people who hear the Word are blessed because once we hear the Word, it does not just make us understand, but it also changes our outlook and our lives.
Now, we have to understand that obeying is not something we are capable of doing alone. That’s why God is there, that’s why the Word is there, who is Jesus Chris-- the incarnate Word so that we will have the strength to obey. We can obey through Christ if we hear Him. If we listen to the Word and obey it, we are blessed. It is not just a promise, but also a step for us to follow. We are so blessed that even if we are incapable of obeying, God has allowed us to have the strength, and that opportunity is through hearing the Word who is Christ our Lord. So, we have to know that obeying must be difficult, but we are able through Christ.
Therefore, let us never forget this truth and hold on to this truth as it is our way to be able to obey the Word of God. Obeying the Word of God means also listening to His Word. We can never obey without hearing the Word, and it is impossible for us not to obey once we hear the Word, because if we truly hear it, we will be changed. Our lifestyle will change-- from being sinful to a life of trying to reflect Christ’s love and righteousness. Thus, we must understand that we are incapable, but made capable by Christ’s grace.
