September 1986. ELVIRA'S HOUSE OF MYSTERY was basically just a revival of DC's sting-in-the-tail horror series (which had expired a few years earlier), now hosted by Elvira. Besides this nifty Bill Sienkiewicz cover — whose green skies and the presence of Adam Strange identify the setting as Ranagar, capital of the planet Rann — this issue has some early professional work by Eric Shanower, later the creator of AGE OF BRONZE, who lettered the first of the two main features. I think the Elvira framing sequences may have been written by Tom and Mary Bierbaum, later of LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES fame. (They were credited in the previous issue, but not this one.)

WIP Wednesday x3
(I'm aware it isn't Wednesday)
Tagged by my taglist: @inkysqueed @babyblueetbaemonster @druidx ...who I tag all back!
Three tags mean three WIPs. From different things I was working on before depression sucked away all my motivation. I'll get through it.
But these tag games are helpful for when you just can't finish something, so:
We Met in Jail
Lecrinn stumbled as she was shoved into the jail cell, catching her balance leaned over. Straightening, she paused at the three others in the cell.             An imperial man stood in the middle, an altmer woman looked annoyed off to the side, and a red argonian brooded against the back wall.             Her eyes narrowed, confused. “Wha-?”             The imperial held up a finger.             “Oh, a redguard!” came a taunting voice behind her, making her look even more confused. “How do you like your cell, huh? Roomy enough for you? I can’t even imagine what it’s like for you. No more sun-”             “What are you talking about?” the imperial yelled passed Lecrinn. “Your cell looks the same!” He looked at her. “Sorry, I was just curious what he’d say.” He stepped closer, giving her a big grin. “I’m Rann!” Turning back slightly, he waved a hand from the altmer to the argonian, “That’s Praelyn and Reptilious.” He turned forward, holding the hand out to her. “Welcome to the group.”             “What group?”             “We’re cellmates now!”             Praelyn shook her head.             “Ah, well we might’ve been if I was staying but,” with a smirk she pulled a lockpick from her mouth, “I’m not.” Turning to the door, she glanced down the hall before inserting the pick. Click, click, click.             Reptilious straightened, looking surprised. “Are you breaking out? But that’s illegal!”             “And you’re in here why?”             He looked away, grumpy.
This one really needs to be edited. For one, I find it awkward that Valen Dreth just disappears from the scene. I don't think he's going to just shut up that quickly, but I also don't want it to drag on too much so I'm still figuring it out. (And that is part of his in game dialogue for redguards, it doesn't make much sense.)
But I wanted to share it anyway, mostly for the last part. XD
View from Lucien's Roof
(Probably a working title. XD)
“Wow,” Garrus breathed out.             They sat atop a ruined tower, the forest stretched out below them basked in a soft golden haze. The sun rested above the blue silhouette of mountains on the horizon.             Looking at Garrus, Lecrinn tilted her head to see his face better, smiling when she saw that he was. His hair shined red in the sunlight, she hadn’t noticed its red tint before. As he started to turn to her she quickly looked forward.             His gaze lingered on her face a moment, on the way the light seemed to make her light brown skin glow. “Thank you,” he looked ahead.             She looked to him from the corner of her eye.             “Moments like these remind me that the world is much more than just pain, there’s also beauty and goodness,” face calm, his voice grew resolute, “that’s why I have to keep protecting it.”             Her smile and gaze sunk. That’s why she had to save it.
The World's Cold but You're Warm
Slightly earlier version to not spoil the (almost) finished one.
They watched the fire, its hues of orange and yellow swaying against the dark.             With nothing being said, Lecrinn fell into unease, mind wandering to why they were out here in the first place. “Course,” she pushed a smile, “after the Oblivion gate this weather will be refreshing, I’ll actually like it then.”             The wind began to pick back up.             “I said then,” she turned to snap at it, “not now, leave me alone!”             Garrus looked to her with a laughing smile, it quickly fading to sadness. His voice was low. “Despite everything you always find a way to stay hopeful.”             Turning to him, her brows rose.                                               “How do you always keep going despite how cold and cruel the world is to you?”             “It’s not just cold and cruel.” Her voice softened, “there are plenty of warm and kind things to keep on for.” She smirked at him to throw a hint he didn’t catch.

Biblically Accurate Red Tornado, by which I mean Rannian Accurate Red Tornado
After the destruction of one of Ma's many, many, many Morrow-designed chassis, Adam Strange and Mike Holt took the initiative and contacted Sardath and the Rannian Science Council. Adapting Morrow's pre-existing Tornado Tyrant technology incorporated into the Red Tornado A.I. unit, Ma's core was place into a bespoke adaptive armor far in advance of any Terran tech, immensely increasing Ma's capacity to sponge up damage from any of the League's many foes.
Of course, by this point in her career, Ma had moved away from League duties to a new full-time gig: den mother to the members of Young Justice.

Who's Who In The DC Universe #1: Adam Strange, Aegeus, Air Wave I, Air Wave II
Adam Strange by Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson
Adam was fleeing from South American natives when he was struck by the Zeta Beam, a “beam of energy sent from the planet Rann in hopes of communicating” with Earth
The Zeta Beam teleported Adam to Rann instead
Adam meets a scientist named Sardath and Alanna, his daughter
Adam became the Rann’s first citizen and savior and later married Alanna
Rann is a planet of contradictions: “Some of its divided city-states possesses science far in advance of Earth, while others exist in almost barbaric splendor”
Adam teleports back to Earth whenever the Zeta Beam wears off, he then has to calculate where the next Zeta Beam will strike (always south of the equator) to return to Rann
I’ve always loved Adam Strange. How can you not enjoy an archaeologist who has space adventures? I’d recommend the Adam Strange miniseries that came out shortly before Infinite Crisis (no, not the Rann-Thanagar War mini-series, the “Adam Strange” mini-series that preceded it. It was excellent!
Aegeus by Don Heck
A Greek national who was planning acts of terrorism when he met Bellerophon (yes, the one from Greek mythology). Bellerophon had become an Olympian-hater so he gave Aegeus a magical bow and arrow, six daggers of Vulcan (shouldn’t he be called Hephaestus (?), and Pegasus. Aegeus then decided to pick a fight with Wonder Woman and the Amazons. It doesn’t end well for him.
For such a long-running character, Wonder Woman’s rogue gallery does not have the depth of a Flash, a Batman, or a Spider-Man. Aegeus is D list. Has he even been seen post-Crisis?
Air-Wave I and Air Wave II by Alex Saviuk & Dick Giordano
Did you know Hal Jordan’s cousins were heroes? And not of the Green Lantern variety?
Lawrence (Larry) Jordan was a native of Earth-2. He developed a helmet and belt that allowed him to into any radio wave, project his voice through radio waves, among other abilities. He created the Air Wave persona, battled nazis, and joined the All-Star Squadron.
Larry traveled to Earth-1 under “unknown circumstances”, became a district attorney, married a woman named Helen, and has a son named Harold (Hal). No, not that Hal Jordan.
Criminals later shot and killed Larry as revenge against his crusades as a district attorney.
Hal inherited the Air Wave equipment and persona from his father.
His mother had a breakdown after the murder of his father and was confined to an institution. Hal was taken in by his cousins, Jack and Jan Jordan.
Hal received some coaching on heroics from his cousin Hal (yes, that Hal), Green Arrow, and Black Canary.
The only appearances of either Air Wave that I’ve read were when Larry or Hal made appearances in the All-Star Squadron or JSA series. They were okay.
I suppose a quick detour is needed for younger readers about the various earths that will be mentioned in the Who’s Who:
Earth-1: The earth of the Silver Age heroes to 1985/1986: the home of Barry, Hal, Katar, Shayera, etc
Earth-2: The home of the Golden Age/original versions of DC’s iconic heroes: Alan Scott, Jay Garrick, Carter Hall. Also, the home of the Justice Society, All-Star Squadron, Infinity Inc, etc. Bruce, Clark, and Diana among other will have versions of themselves on both Earth-1 and Earth-2. The difference is the Earth-2 versions can age, marry, and have children while the Earth-1 versions stayed young and single.
There were multiple other earths, this is off the top of my head so the designations may be wrong, but a few more were:4
Earth-3: The home of the Crime Syndicate (reverse world where the Justice League are evil, and the villains are the good guys)
Earth-F: Home of the Fawcett heroes
Earth-C: Home of the Charlton heroes
Earth-Q: Home of the Quality heroes
DC simply created another earth when they bought out another company and then plopped the newly acquired characters on it rather than try to insert the characters on a prior earth. Crossovers between earths were frequent. DC eventually decided the continuity was too complicated and thus the Crisis on Infinite Earths was born. I don’t know, I was nine years old when the Crisis began and I understood the continuity just fine, so how complicated could it be?

There was a war going on between Thanagarr and Rann and major cities were being abducted into a large dimensional in the 2003 Teen Titans which was why the rest of the main team had to travel the world and gather up more team mates during season 5.

Jasper Review: Mystical Manga Tarot
I like the Mystical Manga tarot deck, but some of these cards really do look like someone's processing their bondage kink. And I'm not judging that part (I mean, pot meet kettle), I'm just wondering why it's not mentioned in reviews or the cards in question aren't shown. If you're gonna add it, you gotta own it.
And like all anime/manga-inspired art, all of the women are super busty and scantily-clad but all of the dudes look normal and are fully clothed.
But we do appreciate tarot decks that don't just spell "TARO" on the Wheel card in Hebrew letters, so that's a point in favor.
The guidebook is also super helpful if you're new to the whole tarot reading schtick and, you know, read guides before doing things.
Official Jasper Review: 7/10, it's not a bad deck, I just wouldn't recommend it to anyone under the age of 18.

I Got You
A quick fic for the TESshiptober prompt, embrace, the other HoKs coming to pick their thief up from her trip (date?) to Cheydinhal.
@druidx @babyblueetbaemonster @inkysqueed
---------
The world had faded away. Lecrinn and Garrus stood by the road, her head nestled against his shoulder as his leaned down where their foreheads touched, eyes closed, arms around the other.
“So…” a quiet voice came from down the road, “They did fall asleep standing up, or…?” Rann watched them confused, he and the other heroes waiting on horseback in the crossroad.
“They have been like that for a while,” Praelyn whispered back. “Maybe we should just let them know we’re here.”
Reptilious was on the other side of her, face and tone flat. “Nah, wait till they see us, it’ll be way funnier.”
“We need to go, I hate to disturb them, but picking her up was already a detour.”
His mouth twisted to the side as he watched Lecrinn’s face, it was calm. She was always scared, angry, happy, up to something, annoying, annoyed back, but rarely just… calm. He turned to Praelyn, grumbling, “If we disturb her now she’ll be grumpy and therefore: annoying. Why don’t we sell off those pelts and whatever useless junk Rann’s picked up, and then come get her?”
“We could, but it doesn’t really need to be done right now.”
Rann pointed a finger in the air, grinning proudly. “I only pick up useful junk.”
He slowly blinked before looking back at Prealyn. “It could wait, or we could do it now and save a trip later.”
She looked back at the two, Lecrinn’s arms crossed behind his neck, his arms wrapped around her back, held close, not wanting to let the other go just yet. She smiled a little. “All right.” Riding out from between the others, she turned down the crossroad.
Rann rode after. “What do you think I’ll get for the goblin head staff?”
            “Thrown out?”
“Hey, Borba actually appreciates useful junk.”
As he followed, Reptilious glanced to Garrus and Lecrinn with a quick smirk. He’d let them have their moment a little longer, but he was so teasing Lecrinn about it later.
