Summary: Keith and Lance switch bodies.

Author Note: This is Keith/Ruby and Lance/Rachel.

Warning! There is a gratuitous amount of swearing (courtesy of Lance).

"Body Swap"

Keith and Lance trudged back into the castle, both trailing after the rest of the team. It had been a rough battle, both Red and Black having taken a lot of damage. It wasn't physical damage or even electrical damage, but the Red and Black Lions had been hit with a strange weapon before they were able to form Voltron.

Allura, Hunk, and Pidge walked into the lounge, but before Keith followed them, Lance pulled him aside. He could tell the battle was rough on his Commander and best friend. They clasped hands, and Lance pulled Keith in for a quick hug. Keith relished in the comfort his best friend was giving him and returned the hug with a gentle ferocity that initially startled Lance.

"Why don't you retire for the night? I know your girlfriend wouldn't mind."

Keith released Lance. "You know what? That sounds like a good idea, especially after the battle we had. Thanks, Lance."

"No problem, buddy. Good night."

"Good night." Keith passed the lounge and entered his room to see his girlfriend digging stuff out of a box and putting the item up or away. Apparently, she had used the battle as a chance to move the last of her stuff into their room and was officially moved into the room they shared.

She looked up when the door opened, pausing in putting a picture of her with the Masako family (taken before she was hired at the castle), and smiled when she saw Keith. "Hi, sweetheart."

Keith smiled back. "Hello, darling."

Ruby finished unpacking the box and dropped the box in the corner, ready for the trash. She approached Keith and hugged him, feeling the tension in his shoulders. She released him, grabbed his hands, and led him to the bed. She removed the top of his jumpsuit and tossed it aside. She knelt on the bed and patted the spot in front of her. Keith sat down, and Ruby started massaging his shoulders, working the tension out. Keith sighed in relief. "That feels so good, darling."

"Good. I'm glad." Ruby moved her hands from his shoulders to his hair, playing with it a little until Keith shifted slightly. He stood up and offered his hand to her, helping her off the bed when she accepted it. They both changed into their pajamas before climbing into the bed, Keith resting his head against his girlfriend's chest as they fell asleep.

The next morning dawned bright and warm, the light spilling into Lance's and Rachel's room. The light roused Rachel, whose eyes landed on her boyfriend, who was still holding her in a protective, swetheart cradle. The previous night's activity resulted in them sleeping sans clothes.

Rachel smiled as "Lance" was waking up. "Hey baby...come here." She leaned up and gave him a kiss. He responded back until his hands landed on bare skin. His eyes popped open and landed on Rachel. He scooted back away from her in shock. "R-Rachel?"

"What's wrong, baby?"

"Why am I here?"

Rachel didn't know why he was asking her such a weird question, let alone why he was acting so weird.

In the next room, "Keith" felt lips against his head for a second before soft hands massaged his scalp. "Mmmmm....Rachel."

Ruby's hands halted in their movement when her best friend's name left her boyfriend's lips. Was he cheating on her? "What the hell, Keith?!"

"Keith" woke up and screamed, seeing he wasn't with his girlfriend. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

A few thumps were heard from the next room before the door opened, revealing Rachel and "Lance." Both were dressed now.

Keith (in Lance's body) saw his girlfriend with tears in her eyes. "Darling."

Her head whipped around, hearing the pet name Keith used for her, but she saw Lance. "Sweetheart?"

Lance (in Keith's body) moved towards Rachel. "Doll?"

Rachel moved back slightly. "What's going on?"

Keith and Lance looked at each other before Lance (in Keith's body) answered. "Somehow, Keith and I switched bodies."

"How? When?" Ruby asked, her tears drying up. Her Keith wasn't cheating on her.

"It must have been during the battle, but it took effect last night," Keith (in Lance's body) replied. He moved towards Ruby, wanting to hug her but couldn't because he was in his best friend's body.

"This is so weird," Rachel murmured. Ruby took Rachel into her arms. Keith and Lance came over and attempted to hug the correct girlfriend.

After a couple of minutes, Keith and Lance stepped back, leaving their girls in each other's arms. Keith (in Lance's body) said, "We should tell the team before there's an attack."

The group of four made their way to the empty control room. Keith (in Lance's body) pushed the alarm button to summon the team. While they waited for the team to arrive, Ruby and Rachel moved to the opposite side of the control room.

Lance (in Keith's body) turned to face his best friend. "Hang on. Did you see my girlfriend naked?!?!"

Keith (in Lance's body) blushed at the reminder of that morning. "Well, yeah, but-"

Lance (in Keith's body) took a menacing step towards Keith like he was about to fight him but was stopped by the arrival of Allura, Pidge, and Hunk.

"What's the big idea sounding the alarm? There's no attack!" Pidge groused.

"Well, there's an issue that arose this morning," Keith (in Lance's body) started. He was about to continue, but the alarm sounded again, and the view screen popped on, showing that an attack had just occurred.

"We need the lions!" Allura announced, and she pushed the button to raise the platform. Keith (in Lance's body) started heading for portal #1 at the same time Lance (in Keith's body) was heading for #2, but they realized the issue and switched mid run. Everyone was shuttled off to their lions. (Lance (in Keith's body) was in Black while Keith (in Lance's body) was in Red).

Lance (in Keith's body) couldn't help but grin at the thought of being leader. "FUCK YES! I GET TO LEAD! Put the keys in, bitches!"

"Oh, dear lord," Keith (in Lance's body) muttered under his breath. "Just launch."

The lions started taking out the Doom fighters. Even though the fighters were taken out, the Red and Black Lions' moves weren't as polished as they usually were.

Just then, a robeast coffin was beamed down to the planet, catching the team's attention.

"Oh, shit, a robeast! What do we do, Keith?!" Lance (in Keith's body) exclaimed.

"Uhhh, you are Keith!" Pidge shot back.

"We need Voltron!" Keith (in Lance's body) replied.

"Uh, right. Activate interlocks! Dynotherms connected! Infracells up! Megathrusters are go!"

"Let's go, Voltron Force!"

"Form feet and legs! Form arms and body! And I'll form the head!" Lance (in Keith's body) took a deep breath as Voltron was formed. He did it. Now, he needed to keep it going. As excited as he was to lead for once, it was a bit overwhelming, so he decided to end it easily. "Form blazing sword!"

Dispatching the robeast with the sword was surprisingly easy, and chasing away Lotor was as easy as firing a missile at his ship. He allowed Allura to do the honors as she had as much right as anyone to do it (considering how much the creep came after her).

Once the Drule threat was taken care of, the lions broke apart and retreated to their dens, and the team met back up in the control room. Keith and Lance were cornered by the other three pilots, but it was mostly Allura questioning Lance (in Keith's body).

"Are you all right, Keith? You seemed a little off today," Allura mentioned.

"I'll be okay, Princess," Lance (in Keith's body) replied, trying to respond like Keith would.

"Maybe turning in early would be a good idea," Allura suggested.

"And relaxing before that!" Pidge piped in.

"And I can make sure he does," Keith (in Lance's body) chimed in, sliding an arm around his friend's shoulders, just like Lance would do.

Lance (in Keith's body) nodded at the group as a whole. "We'll be in the lounge unless there's another attack."

Lance and Keith entered the lounge and were surprised to see their girlfriends in their comfortable clothes. Ruby was shuffling a deck of colorful cards, and Rachel was putting the finishing touches on the mass of pillows and blankets on the floor.

Keith (in Lance's body) stepped a bit closer to his girlfriend. "Darling, what's this?"

"You guys need something to take your minds off what happened, so Rachel and I figured playing some games might help." Ruby shrugged. "It'll at least pass the time."

"And we can have a sleepover here in the lounge," Rachel added, sitting down across from her best friend.

The two switched pilots sat down opposite each other on the two open sides of the low table that the girls had set up. Ruby dealt seven cards to each player before flipping over the top card of the deck, thus starting the game.

The quartet played game after game, only pausing when one of the girls left to get food and drink (dinnertime). After eating dinner, the games resumed, and they played until Rachel yawned. Once the brunette yawned, they finished the round they were currently on.

Ruby put away the cards before joining Rachel in the mass of pillows and blankets. The girls were cuddled up together on one side, while the guys were sleeping alone on the other sides. None of them fell asleep easily, but eventually, they did.

Early the next morning, before dawn, Lance woke up. He rubbed his eyes and looked around. He saw Keith to his left, and his eyes widened before he looked down. He was back in his own body! He grinned and carefully made his way over to the girls. He saw Ruby curled around Rachel. He smiled as he gently moved Ruby's arm off his girlfriend's side. He cupped Rachel's cheek and whispered, "Doll."

Rachel stirred and opened her eyes, blinking slowly. She registered that Lance was kneeling in front of her. "Lance?"

"It's me, Doll."

Rachel reached out to him, and he scooped her up into his arms. She buried her face into his neck, inhaling his cologne scent. He carried her out of the lounge and back to their room.

A few minutes later, Ruby woke up, noticing that both Rachel and Lance were gone. At least she hoped it was Lance. She carefully crawled over to where Keith was. "Keith?"

Keith roused slightly. "Darling?"

Ruby's eyes filled with tears. She snuggled into his arms. "I missed you so much!"

Keith realized at this point that he was back in his own body and wrapped his arms around his girlfriend. "I don't want to go through that again. It hurt to not be able to comfort you through this."

When there was no response, Keith craned his neck to look at his girlfriend and realized that she had fallen back asleep in his arms. He gently laid his head down on hers and closed his eyes, falling back asleep as well.

Oh lordy, lordy

It is nearly 5:00 in the morning here in Austin, and I have been drinking scotch (Highland Queen Majesty 16yo distilled in oak in the HIghlands) and looking at posts, and UTubes, and I have this to declared (and remember, I might just be a bit drunk).

I do not believe Sam and Cait are married. But if they are, what the fuck, who cares. I am 40 years older than he is, and don't have any romantic inclinations toward him, but if I did, I'm still too old for him, and certainly would not be an asset to him on any red carpet. Besides, I love him for his non-celebrity activities, so that is all a bunch of gossip to me.'

Second, I like this fellow who is 25 years old, has started following me (and I him), and is disabled because of child abuse, and can really identify with him because my mom abandoned my daddy when I was five (1946), and I also suffer from PTSD from a number a reasons, starting with losing my daddy when I was five, and having a step-dad who didn't like me (nor did my mother because she was jealous of me).

I lived in a fucking christian household due to my mom having the wrong ideas about christianity, and was denied a lot of stuff in high school where I should have had a great time.

The 60s. What a time for me. In the early days, I worked on a Dude Rance in Las Vegas (where my dad was living), and I was not a person anyone would to fashion themselves after me. I had two marriages that failed before was 24 (my fault, they were good men), and I gave birth to two daughters.

I moved back to Corpus Christi, TX in 1964, was in on the whole Beatles/Rolling Stones/Dave Clark 5/etc. revolution, and managed a merchant seamen's bar from 1964-1968. Sex was free, but birth control was not for single women. I gave birth to two more daughters in 1967 and 1969, I gave up all four daughters for adoption. I was a drunk. I did not believe I would live to the age of 30.

I saw Kennedy assassinated in 1963, MLK Jr. and Bobby in 1968, and a war that never stopped in Vietnam.

At the age of 30, I decided since I was still alive, I should change my ways and become a good citizen. I moved to austin in 1975, and worked 50 years of my life. I retired from the University of Texas in 2003. I worked during those years in Astronomy, public radio (and was a programmer of Celtic music during those years), and finally retired from the graduate studies department in 2003. I suffered from clinical depression and anxiety, was diagnosed with PTSD.

I was in therapy three times for suicidal thoughts, wrote my auto-biography in 2001, had a nervous breakdown in 2002, then covid and other things came along.

Today, at 82, I am sane; I love science fiction, college football (American), follow soccer, the Olympics (track and field, skiing, sledding, rugby, curling), am a pagan in the Celtic tradition, love everything Scotland, but suffer from arthritis in my knees (too much dancing and running) and shoulders, and love auto racing.

I am nuts about Sam Heughan, but he is 40 years younger than I am, and I mostly appreciate him for the things he does outside his celebrity.

I quite drinking when I was about 35, but these days, I drink Scotch, Gin, both from the Highlands, and order Scot-related foods from Amazon. My heart and soul belong to the Highlands. I watch a lot of sports on TV, enjoy car racing and science fiction, have a genius IQ (big deal), and my idea of heaven is where I will get all my questions answered. I am liberal socialist politically, support one regular organization that helps the downtrodden, hate Trump, and

that is about all you all need to know about me.

I am super intelligent, which does not go over with American men, but hay, what the hell, who cares. I am independent beyond imagination, and I love Tumblr. I was kicked off of Facebook, so my social networks are this one and Instagram.

Take me or leave me, but I am not your 82-year-old person, but your 82-year-young person who has seen a lot of life, and I will be alive as long as I can be.

Catch Up Post: SSEUK, ROH, More From CEO x NJPW; This Week’s NJPW on AXS: Dominion & Marathon

Well hey I’m back from vacation. A lot happened while I was away, as NJPW talents basically took their shows on the roads, even beyond the CEO x NJPW event. Speaking of which, there’s an update about that situation below, and I also did upload the Podblast to Place To Be Nation for you to listen to. So why not do that?

Meanwhile, on Saturday 6/30 and Sunday 7/1, much of the NJPW roster was in the UK, for the Strong Style Evolved UK shows that featured, among other things, a title change, as well as a Young Lion in a new gimmick.

Suzuki-gun as a unit did not lose a single match on this tour, and indeed Suzuki-gun now hold two out of the three titles with Minoru Suzuki himself holding two of them. Zack Sabre Jr. got a revenge win from Sakura Genesis over Okada, with Okada now having had 2 singles losses in a row. [EDIT: Post-main on Night 2, WALTER laid out Ishii and stared down Suzuki. WALTER v. Ishii is now happening at Summer Sizzler on 8/17/2018.]

The Great O-Khan is a new gimmick for now-graduated Young Lion, Tomoyuki Oka. He was described as looking like Kin Corn Karn from the NES Pro Wrestling game. He does Mongolian Chops like Tenzan. Pretty interesting he’s been graduated now, since he really didn’t look like he was ready to be moved on from Young Lion matches, and indeed maybe he still hasn’t. It just makes me miss Katsuya Kitamura, mostly.

These shows either are or should be on RPWOnDemand soon, and will probably end up on NJPWWorld eventually as well.

Also happening on Friday 6/29 and Saturday 6/30 were a PPV/TV taping cycle for Ring of Honor. In NJPW-related matches, the opener of the PPV had The Kingdom defeat EVIL, SANADA & BUSHI to retain the ROH World 6-Man Tag Team titles. (Say, um, where are the NEVER ones lately?) KUSHIDA also lost to Jay Lethal. Dalton Castle miraculously retained against Cody Rhodes and Marty Scurll, despite them telegraphing Cody’s win from a mile away.

This was pretty short-lived, however, as the next night Dalton would lose the title to Jay Lethal from a 4-way match also featuring Cody and Matt Taven. Something tells me this is just tranisitionary so Cody can get the title and have his NWA title match at All In.

Also at the next night, KUSHIDA beat Jonathan Gresham, and LIJ beat both Young Bucks/Adam Page and SoCal Uncensored in a 3-way match.

These shows also featured participation from STARDOM, the Japanese women’s promotion, as Mayu Iwatani and the unit Odeo Tai were in matches here.

Lastly, after being cajoled into it (read: first doubling down), Kenny Omega did tweet out an apology and statement about the booking of Chasyn Rance on the CEO x NJPW show. He is offering refunds for anyone who was affected by the booking, which almost kind of isn’t the point. I’m not even sure anyone in attendance really knew who Chasyn Rance and Aaron Epic were. And to have to be cajoled into it... yeah I don’t know. Due dilligence wasn’t done dilligence here, and just Do Better is what’s being asked. Maybe Omega really didn’t know about Rance’s sex offender status. When told, don’t act like everyone is picking on you. These are grown adults we’re talking about, and yet nobody ever wants to actually take responsibility. Maybe that’s the first step in changing the world.

In a related note, I can honestly say at this point that the delays in starting the CEO x NJPW show may not be on NJPW, but rather CEO. I say this after trying to go to the convention itself on Sunday, and there were delays delays delays in the Fighting Game Championships (to wit, when we went there, Dragonball FighterZ should have been started, however Smash was delayed, which then delayed Tekken 7 [We did get to see THAT final and THAT WAS REALLY COOL], which delayed DBFZ, which delayed Street FIghter V, which was what we really had wanted to see. SFV didn’t start until around 11pm and ended at 2am. Oy...). Which, again, is unprofessional looking, but it seems localized to CEO. As I’d mentioned elsewhere, all the Long Beach shows started on time thus far. And I’m pretty sure San Francisco will as well.

To continue the very-Kenny-Omega-heavy theme here, this week’s premiere episode of NJPW on AXS is a 2-hour special, showing the 60+ minute Best 2 Out of 3 Falls Match for the IWGP Heavyweight title between Kazuchika Okada v. Kenny Omega from Dominion 6.9 at Osaka-Jo Hall. It starts at the usual time, but will fill 2 hours between the match length and commercial breaks.

On Saturday 7/7, starting at 12pm EDT, they are running the “Bullet Club Is Fine” marathon on AXS, with a heavy focus on Bullet Club oriented repeats of NJPW on AXS, to lead in to the main event of G1 Special in San Francisco, naturally.

That show, of course, starts at 8pm EDT / 5pm PDT live on AXS if you are not in San Francisco. If you are outside the USA, it will be on NJPWWorld, which, you may be better off because I am honestly dreading JR and Barnett live on the mic.

Summary: Keith, Ruby, Lance, Rachel, CJ, and Allura get de-aged to three-years-old.

Author Note: This is Keith/Ruby, Lance/Rachel, and Allura/CJ. Rachel belongs to QueenScene2, and CJ belongs to 80sGayTrashGoblin.

"De-Aged Hijinks"

It was a quiet night on Planet Arus. The castle's inhabitants weren't expecting six of their number to be affected by the previous day's experiment. However, morning's light showed yesterday's experiment had unusual consequences.

Ruby could feel Keith's arms still around her. She was happy that he hadn't been called away to defend Arus. She adored waking up in his arms, but there was something a little off. She had fallen asleep wearing an old faded Garrison t-shirt of Keith's that wasn't too baggy, but now, it felt really baggy.

She hesitantly opened her eyes and was very confused, because there was a little boy who looked like Keith and was wearing his pale blue pajama top sleeping with his arms around her. She looked down at herself and saw she was a little girl again. She whimpered, inadvertantly waking Keith up. He rubbed one eye. "Ruby, what's wrong, darling?"

It was then that it registered to Keith that his girlfriend was much younger than when they went to sleep, but she still had her heart necklace and rose earrings on. He looked down and saw that he was a little boy again. They didn't get to say anything else, before they heard crying from the next room over.

Rachel and Lance were already awake and had discovered what happened, but Rachel was determined to put her make-up on. Rachel, wearing Lance's shirt, stood on Lance's shoulders to see the mirror in order to put on her make-up. She couldn't do it well enough, because she didn't possess fine motor skills anymore, so she asked Lance, who is wearing his pajama top, for help.

"Help, Lancey?"

"Don't call me that, doll. Not when I can't do anything about it."

"Please."

"All right. Come down." She slid off his shoulders. "Now, hold still."

He tried to put on her eyeliner but ended up accidentally poking her in the eye with eyeliner pencil. Rachel bursted into tears, and Lance dropped the eyeliner pencil and kissed her on the lips to get her to stop crying, but it didn't work and made Lance cry because he hurt his girlfriend. Their crying was what attracted Keith and Ruby.

Ruby immediately went over to her best friend's side and held her, rocking her in order to soothe her. Keith followed his girlfriend's lead and went over to Lance's side.

"What happened, Lance?"

"I-I h-hurt, R-Rach," Lance sobbed.

"She seems okay aside from being three."

"All four of us are little kids, sweetheart," Ruby stated.

Rachel had heard Lance's sobbed confession and lifted her head. It was obvious what had happened. Her eye was still red and not just from crying, which did help with clearing the eyeliner out. "I'll be okay, Lancey."

"Rach?" Lance locked eyes with his girlfriend and held his arms open for a hug. Rachel flung herself into his arms, knocking them both over in the process. Keith and Ruby giggled, Keith putting his arms around his girlfriend.

"Voltron Force, report to the control room!"

Keith and Lance looked at each other, Keith nodding. The two de-aged pilots dashed out of the room, their girlfriends in tow. When they arrived in the control room, they were the last ones, Hunk and Pidge arriving before them.

"What's the matter, Coran?" Keith asked, momentarily forgetting he was currently three-years-old.

Coran, Nanny, Hunk, and Pidge all turned to face the de-aged quartet. "I originally called you here, because Allura is missing, but what happened to you four?"

"We don't know," Keith admitted. "We woke up like this."

"So, that's two mysteries to figure out. Where Allura is, and what happened to those four," Hunk stated.

"Hey! I'm not the youngest anymore!" Pidge pointed out.

"We need to do something! You two, find the princess!" Nanny pointed at Hunk and Pidge. "You two, find something better to wear!" She pointed at Keith and Lance. "And you two, get to work!" She pointed at Ruby and Rachel last.

"But we can't work like this!" Ruby insisted.

Nanny went to grab Ruby to put her over her knee, but Keith pushed Ruby behind him. "Don't touch her!"

Nanny paused for a moment but turned to Rachel. Lance didn't even give her a chance to yell at his girlfriend. "They can't work!"

Nanny ignored him, grabbing him by the ear to move him out of the way.

"Ow! Ow! Ow!" Lance yelped, cupping his ear after Nanny released him.

Hunk finally intervened. "Nanny, you honestly can't expect two three-year-olds to clean the castle and do laundry. They can't reach most of the places."

Nanny looked from Ruby, who was being held by Keith, to Rachel, who was kneeling by Lance and trying to help Lance feel better. She sighed. "I suppose, but then, they should help find the princess."

"Calm down, Nanny. I'm sure she's still in the castle," Coran said.

Meanwhile, CJ and Allura were on their way to CJ's lab, which was just the room next to Allura's room. They had woken up de-aged but had realized what happened. The experiment CJ conducted the previous day had blown up in her face. It had affected Allura, Ruby, Rachel, Lance, and Keith, because she called them there to witness her brilliance.

The reason they were headed /back/ towards CJ's lab was because they had stopped by the kitchens for snacks. No one had seen them since they used the vents, which was a little hard since they were wearing old dresses of Allura's (back when she was originally three-years-old). CJ didn't really like the dress but it was better than the old t-shirt she had fallen asleep in. When they had gotten to the kitchen, the two found themselves with an armful of snacks each. CJ thought it was because the kitchen maids were delighted to give them sweets, but in truth, the maids couldn't deny the sweetie that was a tiny princess.

Since their arms were full of snacks, using the vents were out of the question, so they were walking down the corridor when they were spotted by the four other children.

"There they are!" Ruby exclaimed.

CJ and Allura looked up and saw Hunk, Pidge, Keith, Lance, Rachel, and Ruby heading their way. CJ looked at the two de-aged maids before she turned towards Allura. "Why did I have to wear a dress, when they get to wear oversized shirts?"

"We're only wearing these because we didn't have anything else," Rachel pointed out.

"I have more dresses you can borrow! Follow me!" Allura headed for her room.

Keith looked at the two currently eldest pilots. "Tell Coran and Nanny that we found Allura."

Hunk and Pidge nodded and made their way back to castle control. Keith, Lance, Ruby, and Rachel hurried after Allura and CJ. They entered Allura's room and were surprised to see it slightly messy. There were several, fancy, child sized dresses flung over the bed.

Ruby and Rachel rushed over to the selection, wanting to get dressed in proper clothes.

While the girls were choosing their dresses, Keith asked, "Do either of you know how this happened?"

"Of course, I know! It was my experiment yesterday! It wasn't supposed to do this, but it's fine."

"Fine? We're three-years-old!"

"Relax, Keith. It'll wear off by morning." CJ muttered under her breath, which Keith didn't hear, "I think."

"I'm wearing this!" Ruby pulled out a white dress that had what looked like cherry blossom petals swirling around the full skirt.

Rachel pulled out a dark blue dress that looked out of place in the collection of light colors. It was sleeveless and had a slightly shorter skirt, ending at her knees, when she held it up to herself. "I like this one!"

The girls hurried to the en suite bathroom and changed into the dresses. They came out, carrying the shirts they had been wearing. The boys were so mesmerized by the sight of their girlfriends in such pretty dresses that they missed the looks the girls were giving each other.

Rachel whispered into Ruby's ear, making the other girl giggle. The two girls dug through the pile again and pull out another two dresses, heading for their boyfriends. They pulled them into the bathroom and had them face away from each other.

"You two need better clothes. You should wear these!" Rachel giggled as she and Ruby held out the dresses they had just picked up.

"I'd rather just stay in my pajama top, darling."

Lance shrugged. "Sure?"

"But, sweetheart, Lance is doing it."

Keith briefly glanced over to see his best friend unbuttoning his pajama top, adverting his gaze back to his girlfriend, who was still holding out the red dress she had found. He sighed. "Fine."

Once the boys had their pajama tops off, the girls helped them into the dresses. Keith's dress was short sleeved and down to his ankles. Lance's was also short sleeved but the front ended at his knees while the back ended lower (at his ankles). While Keith looked like he was pouting at having to wear the dress, Lance was wearing it with confidence, giving everyone the idea that he may have worn a dress before.

Allura clapped her hands as the four exited the bathroom. "Oh! You all look so pretty! We should do your hair, Keith!"

Keith's hands immediately buried themselves in his still long hair. "Nuh-uh. No way, princess." He eyed CJ. "How sure are you that this is ending tomorrow morning."

"Pretty sure. Maybe 95%...85% sure. Well, maybe make that 75% sure."

This book was published by the Société des études robespierristes in 2016, as the 16th book in the Études révolutionnaires collection. It is based on two conferences that were held at Senshu University in Tokyo (November 2013) and in Ivry-sur-Seine (November 2014) ; hence, the book includes a great diversity of perspectives, which allows French and Japanese historiographies on the Revolution to encounter, confront and enrich each other.

The authors set out to explore the conventionnels’ active consciousness of making history, as well as the memorialisation of the republican era in the memoirs of certain deputies of the Convention. In writing these accounts, the revolutionaries not only confronted their own past as well as the adverse political circumstances of the present under the Bourbon Restoration, but also interacted with the first historians of the Revolution and contributed its early historiography. Following an introduction written by Michel Biard, Philippe Bourdin and Hervé Leuwers, the book is composed of 15 chapters (each between 7 and 31 pages long) which deal with a great variety of topics.

The majority of chapters explore how certain events and phenomena are memorialised and reflected in the memoirs of contemporaries or in other documents. Hervé Leuwers, for instance, examines the tradition connecting Robespierre’s traits to elements of his biography, and demonstrates that this tradition is not only based on the works of the first mémorialistes of the Revolution (Proyart and Charlotte Robespierre, notably), but also on the image which Robespierre himself cultivated through his speeches, writings and public appearances. Yoshihiro Matsuura, on the other hand, studies how Robespierre’s political ascension is reflected in contemporary speeches, writings and memoirs, whereas Takashi Koï examines the representation of “federalism” in the Girondins’ trial and in the memoirs of the deputies of the National Convention. In his chapter, Michel Biard deals with the question if the activities of the representatives of the people en mission have been misportrayed in the memoirs of the Convention’s deputies. Yoshiaki Ômi explores the depiction of “the Terror” in the letters, writings and memoirs of the deputies of Haute-Loire, while Philippe Bourdin examines the reflection of Carnot’s ideology and character in the inventory of his personal library. Natalie Petiteau studies how the memory of the National Convention is represented in the écrits héleniens, which are based on the conversations between Bonaparte and O’Méara, Las Cases, Gourgaud, Antommarchi, Montholon and Bertrand, respectively ; it is interesting to see how certain elements (e.g. his judgement of the Convention’s “errors” and “divisions”, the rehabilitation of Robespierre) shape Bonaparte’s ideology and self-perception. Finally, Koichi Yamazaki studies the account of the creation of the department Hautes-Pyrénées in the memoirs of Bertrand Barère.

Other chapters focus on the memoirs of individual conventionnels and the transmission of the militant legacy of the Revolution from one generation to the next, as well as on the interaction between the former deputies and the historians of the Revolution. Thus, Karine Rance studies the conservation and inheritance of the revolutionary memory in the early 19th century, whereas Maki Sato explores how the aspects of commemoration and self-justification define Adrien Duquesnoy’s memoirs. In a similar vein, Laurent Brassart’s chapter deals with Jean Debry’s struggle for authenticity in his memoirs, and Cyril Triolaire analyses Choudieu’s endeavour to rehabilitate the National Convention through his writings. The case of Joseph Fouché is particularly interesting, as Emmanuel de Waresquiel explores how Fouché’s public and private discours on the Revolution evolved and radically changed throughout the years. Céline Pauvros studies Charles-François Dupuis’ disillusions with the revolutionary project, as reflected in the annotations that he made to his personal copy of Abrégé de l'origine de tous les cultes between 1804 and 1809. Finally, in the last chapter, Mette Harder examines how the former conventionnels interacted with the first historians of the French Revolution – sometimes amicably, other times not so much.

Thematically, this book is at times a bit incoherent, and some of the chapters are so specialised that they are barely accessible for readers that are not particularly versed in the field (e.g. in the case of Philippe Bourdin’s chapter on the fonds Carnot). In spite of these weaknesses, this is a solid book on the French Revolution and can offer valuable insights into the minds of the conventionnels, as well as into the complex processes of conservation and transmission surrounding the militant legacy of the Revolution.
