ok so I was originally going to write a fic for this but i didn't have the time/motivation, and now im left will all the wack au ideas that wouldve been included

the main difference in this AU is that Lizzie's a vampire- that's it mostly, everything else follows closesly with canon

life giving/receiving is personalized in this AU

--- lizzie gives/receives extra lives by vampire-biting them (she usually does it on the neck for drama, but it would work anyplace else. she's just extra) , martyn uses an axe as the magic conduit, scar does some sort of blood mixing, and those are all the people i thought of so everyone else is a mystery

--- since lizzie's thing is so violent she tries to hide it as much as possible. card up her sleeve and all

vampires in this one are fae-adjacent in that they can lie (and in lizzies case they have wings) but they cannot break oaths/promises (by extension, this forces the other person(s) participating in the oath also 100% bound to their promise)

that is important bc instead of giving it straight away, lizzie promises Ren his life for his loyalty. since he kinda sorta needs that life he doesnt leave when lizzie turns red and they become power duo. lizzie knows that once ren gets his life he's free to dip so she kinda holds it over his head

however comma when ren DOES find out about her vampire everything he freaks and accuses her of being a monster with an unfair advantage, and they get into a big fight during the battle where lizzie originally died (which is what the main art is based off of)

ren gets his promised life as hes on his perma-death bed, and stays with lizzie out of like. residual obligation after that

Quick thoughts on the TIME article

This article was written like My Week with Marilyn or the Great Gatsby to me. Meaning it felt like someone who longed for a glimpse into the mysticism of Taylor Swift but took away from it only what she wanted. Like it didn’t opine too much on the truth and just accepted her presentation. This form of writing in turn leaves it to the reader to find meaning in her words and presentation. And in turn the piece feeds into that mysticism even more. Idk if this makes sense.

All in all I think it served its purpose for Taylor Swift the brand. She in a sense with this article said I’m not the person of the year my brand is.

thinking about how the four guardian's major colour themes all reflect their own character personalities well.

harpuia

his primary colour is green. green is often associated with peace, nature, new beginnings, life, gentleness, renewal, and growth. this suits his character extensively; he is one of the biggest examples of growth in the series, by going from being intensely loyal to copy x to rebelling for proper justice. he even showed mercy to zero in the beginning of z2 instead of taking the opportunity to quickly and easily kill him, setting down the basis for his more peaceful ideals. not to mention his first name being sage, a shade of green.

fefnir

his primary colour is red. red is often associated with harshness, danger, passion, intensity, and courage. fefnir has repeatedly displayed a passion for fighting (zero specifically). he's not afraid to do the hard work, even if he doesn't want to (such as dropping the bomb at the resistance base). it shows he has strong courage and harshness.

levithan

her primary colour is blue. blue is associated with wisdom, sincerity, imagination, loyalty, enthusiasm, and sadness. much like the others, she is extremely loyal to copy x. she's also very sincere, with her blatant honestly with her desire to kill zero and how fighting him feels better than fighting others (specifically omega). i find her personality slightly contrasts her colour themes, but they fit with her preference to be aquatic.

phantom

his primary colour is black. this is often associated with death, power, restraint, grief, and elegance. phantom was very extreme when it came to his goals, with him even being the first to die for the sake of neo arcadia. he was merciless and powerful and fought zero with the quickest approach of the four. he initially held proper restraint as well, taking precaution before fighting zero, unlike fefnir and levithan.

overall

they all wear white under their main armour, the colour often associated with purity. it's a reminder that they were created for the aid of settling humans initially, despite where things evolved.

the four of their personalities as well as their elements mesh very well with the colour of their armours. it's a good example of the attention to detail that makes me love mmz so much.

i honestly had forgotten about kilgharrah's weird little goodbye in 04x02. what do you mean he was just going to let merlin sacrifice himself? and it had to be the cailleach that brought up the whole "it's not your time yet" point? yeah, uther is no longer in any position to be king, but arthur isn't exactly there yet either + he has morgana (and co) on his heels. and perhaps you could argue kilgharrah knew what lancelot would do, but why the big goodbye then? why the "oh, merlin, from the moment i met you-" moment? i guess it could've also been done for the sake of the audience, like a misdirect, but there? were other options? the scene could've just gone as usual, with merlin simply ignoring kilgharrah's advice. but no.

definitely an interesting choice when it comes to storytelling, it almost feels a little final already. like merlin has gotten him as far as he should've, which perhaps is simply there to mark the decline in choice-making (although, i'd argue that already happened in s2, so maybe just the darker tones in general is the point they're making).

then again, the cailleach does, in fact, say it's not his time yet. and if we're talking about that scene: i think an interesting choice of wording was also the whole "even if you want it to be" line that gets thrown in when talking about merlin sacrificing himself (see: "your time among men is not yet over..."). again, a very different kind of tone is brought in, which really makes me think that from the very beginning of s4 a darker storyline was being hinted at, even beyond the overall turnaround from s3 to s4 - as if solidifying the change in overarching concepts. all this to say - the whole "beginning of the end" feeling was very prominent in the first two episodes of s4, especially in the underlying themes. i honestly don't know how much of it was truly meant as such, but it's certainly a worthy checkpoint when rewatching, knowing what's to come.

He's haunted by his crush for the next 20 years. Excited to show off his new Archduke status to her. She's routinely unimpressed by him.

She's probably annoyingly nice and like funds charities and shit. Going in to politics to help people. He hates her. She knows more legal stuff than him and makes him look dumb. He's an artificer genius, and it makes her look dumb. She'll never be able to accept his moral bankruptness, and he'll always be devestated about it.

To ME, i find more interesting the characters who inside their stories are the villains, victimizers and abusers of other characters. I don't know, i like to see what kind of actions in their lifes made them take that route that ultimately makes them hurt another characters. I NEED to conprehend their tought process behind their actions, if they ever questioned themselves, if they ever arrive to the conclussion that their actions are ultimately wrong and have hurted others. That doesn't mean i don't like characters who often are victimized and abused, I do! I enjoy seeing them receive those abuse and what are their toughts on the moment, how those reflects on their character arc and what do the story wants to tell us about it! I like to see them process all what is happening and moving fowards into their character arc!!! It is better when the character some times doesn't quite understand what is wrong on the environment where they are developing and suddenly they do and finally decide to do something about it!!!!

I don't know, maybe i just like to disect and analize a character!

maybe it’s an unpopular opinion but i LOVE steven universe future, like it’s so good?? I was rewatching the last few episodes since I wanna write a fic where Steven stayed longer with Jasper bc i think they had an interesting friendship in SUF lol

But I wish it wasn’t so short and that the episodes were longer and spent more time on the characters working through their issues.

And yes, Steven may not be “Classic Steven” in SU:Future but that’s what I love about it. Trauma changes you. Even if you learn how to be a better person, it doesn’t mean it’s super easy to apply those skills to your life. It’s still so hard. Even when you think you’ve changed and gotten better, old habits seep through and you realize that maybe you haven’t made as much progress as you thought. But what SUF shows is that it’s okay to not be perfect, because that’s what makes us human. We aren’t a monster if we do things wrong, if we hurt people- what matters is that we learn and we actually take the steps to be better. This means taking responsibility. This means not running from your problems but facing them. This isn’t to say that everyone is excused from their actions because they aren’t.

I think that’s what made Connie’s entrance on the “I Am My Monster” episode so perfect. Like, YES it’s your fault! And while she was technically talking to White Diamond, I think it makes more sense if she was talking to everyone there. Everyone there, excluding Connie and Steven, are adults. Most of them have been alive for thousands of years for fucks sake. But they trauma dump and push their problems onto a child who already struggled with fitting in already. I think that even the Crystal Gems play a part in Steven’s trauma, because again, they should know better. He was a child and he didn’t have to be forced into this life. Parents are supposed to protect and make sure their child is exposed to as little bad content as possible.

Now, I’m going to use sex education as an example here, because this is a common issue with adults and how they talk to children, especially about sexual topics. If you wanna skip this bit, I’ll use large GREEN text once it’s over lol

So, there’s “two main sides” (i put it in quotes bc of course there’s ppl with loads of opinions, but these are the two most prominent ones and also the most problematic to their child’s development) to this: Some parents choose to shelter their kids from anything even mentioning sex, maybe even to the point where their child just has no genuine understanding of sex and how to deal with those thoughts and feelings. Without talking to their child maturely about these topics, their child will grow up not only being teased for not understanding but also just without a good understanding of sex and what it entails. Plus sex doesn’t just have to be about the pleasure aspect or procreation, what about sex safety and what to watch out for when choosing to go into a situation where there might be people who could potentially take advantage of you.

Now some other parents choose to not keep an eye on what their kid does on the internet or what influence people are having on their kids, and as a result the child might learn things that their brain isn’t ready to process yet since it isn’t fully developed. This can lead to their child having unrealistic expectations when it comes to sex and even get themselves into dangerous situations on the internet and real life. I’m sure many people here and on most social media platforms can understand that, when it comes to unlimited internet access, it can be a dangerous thing for young kids and teens.

However that’s not to say that everything here is bad, there are ways to learn without being exposed to material that your young brain might not be ready for. An example of this is the parental lock on your electronics! You can also TALK to your child, and focus on keeping an open communication. There’s loads of things to prevent either of these scenarios, which I can go into detail abt- but maybe in another ramble

ANYWAYS

What I mean by referring to this topic is that Steven’s situation can be seen as similar (except in a much more dramatic and complex way lol) There are things that the Crystal Gems and Greg could have done to take better care of Steven. An example being the fact that Steven was pushed headfirst into these life or death threats from such a young age. These were about things he was barely aware of until tragedy struck. So what could’ve helped during Classic SU? There could have been better communication, obviously. Greg could have at least helped homeschool Steven, or use the money he made from the car wash to possibly support Steven and the Gems financially. The Crystal Gems should have sat Steven down and told him about his mom and more about the Gem War. He should have had more of an idea of what he was getting into. The only reason he was so enthusiastic was because the Crystal Gems were his main role models since Greg was often working or just doing his own thing.

Time and time again, Steven had to be the adult in situations like when Greg faked a leg injury or when Garnet split because of the Pearl incident. I could name a million more situations where he had to be the bigger person, but I won’t for my sanity.

The Crystal Gems should have gotten more repercussions for the way they treated Steven, the things they put onto his shoulders despite being a literal child. Greg could have been a better dad, because being a dad isn’t just about having fun. Being a dad is hard and can take a lot of you, but you made the choice to bring this child into the world so you have to take responsibility. At least, in Greg’s case that’s what happened. He knew the risks and he still had a kid with Rose, so he should have been around more as Steven grew up.

This is gonna be a weird or unpopular take.

I really didn’t like that Taylor announced her album when she accepted her award. The Grammy’s had already lost their appeal when she gave her ex beau one. But in this instance it was a little different.

In her speech she basically said that the fans are the reason the recording academy voted for her which isn’t how it is supposed to work. (See Beck and Jon batiste). It’s not like the iheart awards or billboard or whatever where the fans are an integral and explicit part of the voting process. So to me it feels like her announcing a new album after winning her 13th award basically tells the recording academy “my fans make you money by bringing in viewership (viewership was up 34% this year for the telecast) so keep giving me awards so I keep coming and I’ll make sure the show is talked about after it airs.” Like it used to be fun to watch her having fun at award shows but now that she essentially is doing the same thing for the NFL it feels like a parlor trick. It’s just an overexposure thing.

Again this is just my feeling. It doesn’t matter. Maybe this was intentional. Maybe she wants to diminish the significance of winning a Grammy. Idk.
