Went on my first "Fox Hunt" today! No not real foxes, but little tiny hidden radio transmitters. The "fox" transmitter is hidden in a secret location and transmits on a certain time interval for a certain amount of time. The chasers have to use directional antennas and radio direction finding equipment to triangulate the fox's location. Once found, you can sign a paper log inside the transmitter can, or there could be a special phrase or number you have to report to the hunt organizer. The fox is always on publicly accessable property. Riley and I had the fox triangulated to the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, but we lost the signal and could not find and verify the transmitter before we ran out of time. It was fun and challenging! We covered about 9 square miles of territory and drove right at 18 miles hunting and taking bearings. The fox was hiding right where we thought he was, the M 8th AFM!
