Alright, calling all Layton experts, how are you supposed to solve this puzzle? Like, what’s the pattern?

I mean I know what the answer is (I’ll put it under the cut if you want to know), back when I first played this in January I had to look up a guide and my brain remembered which one it was, and I wanted to just get on with the story, so I just put that in instead, but still I would like to know

For reference, this is supposed to be the Laytonesque section of Evoland 2, so I know that there’s supposed to be a rhyme and reason to this. Only the game itself doesn’t tell you

Oh yeah, also this one too (I will also put solution under the cut)

For the button one, the answer is the 2 to the right of the gold button

For the symbols, the answer is the second one

All right, the Layton imitation puzzles. My mind has now been trained, I can DO THIS

#these caused me so much trouble back when I first played #there’s only one here but later on there’s a whole sequence of them #and you have to complete I believe 6 out of 8 #though I still did all of them #I had to 100% the game #which I did #anyways #evoland 2 #professor layton #because you know that’s what it’s imitating #they even do the reaction images thing that Layton has #that was the first time I ever saw one of those #and it trained me for Layton #random stuff #quibbs plays evoland 2

Also, I just want to show you this conversation in the game because I think it’s pretty interesting

#again couldn’t record the whole thing #but I think I got the gist of the point #though to be honest even when playing this game for the first time #what Fina says when talking about Kuro never really landed for me #because this is only like 2 hours into the game #(currently I’m at like 4 hours but I just forgot to post this) #and Fina and Kuro were only really on their own for the first hour of that #and even then we didn’t have any profound interactions #so I feel like Fina saying this feels a little forced because this is pretty close to the beginning of the game #we do not know each other #and even then Kuro has amnesia #he’s not really taking a risk because nothing really means anything to him at this point #like what else is he supposed to do? nothing has any significance to him #but that’s probably just nitpicking on my end #anyways #enjoy this conversation about fate and our free will #evoland 2 #quibbs plays evoland 2 #fina #menos #kuro

#it’s so funny how pretty much every one of the soldiers here disses the Lieutenants #I didn’t get them all but these were the ones I kept pictures of #though it’s actually foreshadowing #because later on you meet the lieutenants and we see that they’re very incompetent #the one keeping the Imperial Army going is the colonel #don’t know who the general is #or if there even was one #because Colonel Dalkin seems to be the head of the military #and he later on becomes general #(in terms of the timeline I mean I don’t think we see it in game) #I dunno #but I thought this here was funny #evoland 2 #quibbs plays evoland 2 #funny

You ever replay a game after finishing and realize just how much foreshadowing is in the opening area?

Also for the name thing, it’s more than a one off joke, as certain people do call you by whatever you call yourself here

Personally I always pick Mega Clink, because in the first game the main character is Clink, you know it’s Clink -> Mega Clink. If I were to have an Evoland 3, there should be a point where you’re able to call yourself Super Mega Clink, just to continue the joke

Ah, so we meet Emperor Lothair. I’m still not sure why he’s allowed a talk sprite but Arthus, his Demon counterpart, isn’t. Because spoiler warning, this is the ONLY scene where we see Lothair, he never shows up again. So why doesn’t Arthus have one? Yeah he’s only in one scene but again, so is Lothair. And it’s not like he isn’t important, at the very least he’s important to one of our main characters! Why didn’t you give him a sprite, Shiro Games?!

…*ahem* sorry, I just get heated when talking about that. I’ll probably bring it up again whenever Arthus shows up

But going back to the actual dialogue posted, yeah I’d imagine he’d want to be there, given who this challenger is

And as for the three shown here, from left to right the rankings go: honestly not a bad guy, you’re decent but I don’t know enough about you, and die

Wait, you DON’T know who this guy is?? How??

He’s pretty important to the Demon cause, how do you NOT know who he is? You had to have met him at some point, right? I mean you weren’t JUST made Emperor

And even if he knows the guy, it’s just that no one told him who exactly the Demon was, why didn’t they? Again, he’s important to the Demon cause, and he has to be known amongst the Empire’s ranks because of it, did no one think to tell the Emperor about who they just captured?? I’d think that’d be pretty important news, plus, you can use him in a hostage/exchange situation! You probably could have ended this war if someone had just told him! Lothair isn’t about mercilessly killing Demons, he wants this war to end “quickly and cleanly” as he puts it

I remember seeing these things (the little hole in the wall) during my first playthrough, and I was CONVINCED that at some point in the game, we would have a section, or more likely obtain the ability, to go small and go through these doors

But no, there is never any explanation to what these things are or why they’re there, they just are
