SUA - IVAN TYPE OF JEALOUSY

I've just realized that Sua and Ivan had the same very weird type of jealousy:

- Sua was not jealous of Till even though Till liked Mizi, instead, Sua turned to be upset with Mizi 'cause Mizi was so silly goofy that she didn't realize Till's feelings for her though it was as plain as crystal.

- And in the same way, Ivan was not jealous of Mizi although Mizi won Till's affection. He turned to be upset with Sua instead because Sua's feelings was reciprocated and her affection for Mizi was both-sided while his was not, even though he considered that they were alike, that they were the same kind of person.

Also on the contrary, we can see that Ivan is very close to Mizi in some offical side-arts/side-stories (you can find them on Vivinos X account). Mizi talked to Ivan first and asked him for an explanation when she heard something she didn't understand, and she even asked Ivan to carry her on his back. Mizi and Ivan interaction was far closer than Mizi and Till. Actually, Till's relationship with Mizi was like one-sided, and he just followed behind Mizi to know more about her but did not dare to come closer or tried to strike up a proper conversation.

One thing I love about Alien Stage is how they're utilizing having two head animators, specifically their art styles.

Vivinos has a very youthful style, with characters generally looking very rounded with small, circular heads (for example). The team leans more into Vivinos's style during flashbacks of everyone as kids, but also notably in the videos for My Clematis, Unknown Til The End, and Black Sorrow.

When Mizi, Till, and Ivan all first debut on Alien Stage, they look youthful...but in subsequent rounds, the project shifts more into QMENG'S art style. That means longer, more angular faces, sharper features... and in combination with everything else, that more mature style makes the characters look like they have aged.

The events of participating in Alien Stage have changed them, and that is reinforced through the art Direction. Mizi in ROMH looks different than she did in My Clematis. Ivan and Till look different in Cure than they did in their initial rounds. They are different. Alien Stage has done that to them.

Ivan and Till…

I think the saddest thing about Ivan and Tills dynamic is that when we see Tills POV Ivan is never in it but Ivan’s POV has Till everywhere.

Every other face is unimportant or generic, a lot of them aren’t even drawn when in Ivan’s POV but Till doesn’t even see Ivan. Till only sees Mizi, if he looks at Ivan at all. (The only times Till looks at Ivan are after being forced to or provoked with the fight over the flowers, Ivan touching Tills wound, or even when they do escape Till looks at Ivan briefly but still turns away)

And all the while Ivan knew his love for Till was unreciprocated, it’s made even more clear in the lyrics…

“You can break me apart

Notice my pain, And mend me right now

To quiet my fears, I’ll drown in you

Sick of these nights to come, to be engulfed in silence, In your gaze where I’m seen

Consume me”

The moment that Ivan saw Till asleep and, in a moment of tenderness, embraced him, he was already dead. The moment Till let go of his hand and ran back instead of to salvation, Ivan was already dead. Because his love for Till triumphs his own sense of self-preservation. Just like how Tills love for Mizi won over his desire to escape with Ivan. Both of them would have been safe, and alive, if not for their love.

Till only saw Ivan once it was too late and even then Till closed his eyes in acceptance of Ivan “strangling” him. He never saw Ivan being shot he only saw him once he was laying at his feet. Till lost the person who truly loved him in this world and he doesn’t even know it.

Whenever Till sings about mizi and or needing her I notice that he always imagines her child self..

I think it's honestly because he's scared of actually seeing Mizi and how she ended up after all these years, because she isnt that child anymore.

he idealizes the child who saved him from spiraling when he was younger and gave him a reason to keep going through the pain of being in Alien stage. He idealized what Mizi used to represent, a sweetness and flowery purity that is rare in the world he lives in. so he clung to it life a lifeline because she WAS his lifeline, but he has yet to recognize the Mizi who has changed so much from when she was a child. I hope Till has an open-eyed moment when he sees Mizi again not as the child she once was but as the woman she is now. I feel like that'll have a much-needed impact on his character development.
