Boat Day
Tumblr media
(Enjoy everyone. I had this idea while on the boat a few weekends ago. This time it's with everyone's favorite boy: Quinny boy 43. Those clips of him driving the boat for his family gave me the inspo to finish this.)
Warning: Light smut below the line.
"What ya lookin at baby?" a smirk playing on his lips  over the plastic water bottle.  "How do  you know I'm looking at you?" You counter, "you can’t see my eyes through my sunnies." "I always know when you're lookin at me baby."
He accelerates the boat and the wind slightly picks up. He reaches up and turns his hat around on his head. His biceps flex in the sun, while his skin shimmers from the sunscreen he had you spray on him before you left the dock. "You do me, I do you?" He asked with a cheeky grin. Ok maybe you were looking, staring, at him, but how could you not?
Your trance is broken when he shifts in his seat, slightly turning away from the steering wheel, he pats his leg and holds out his hand. A silent cue for you to sit on his lap. "Quinny, I can't sit on your lap while you drive, it's dangerous."  He waves his fingers, "come on, the breeze is cold, i need you to warm me up."
You stand up carefully and grab his hand. He pulls you onto his lap situating you between his legs.  "You're a cheesehead, you know that?" His hands go back around the steering wheel, caging you into him. "Gimme your hands baby," he takes your hands and places them on the wheel with his on top. "Steady now," he let's go of your hands, one falls across your waist, holding you closer to him and the other grabs the gear to slow down the boat.
"Quinny," you whine and turn to look at him, about to protest more, but he stops you, "just keep going straight im right here." His hands slide down to rest on top of your thighs, giving them a little squeeze in assurance.
You focus back on the water, no boats behind you: check no boats to your left: check, no boats to your- your train of thought is cut off when his hands slide up your thighs then back down to your knees.  Slow circles up and down, he gets to the top of your thighs and lightly massages your skin, adding a bit of pressure. You shift in the seat, trying to  focus back on the water and not the trail of fire his fingertips are leaving.  His hands glide up to yours back on the wheel, "just a slight turn now baby." His fingertips find your knees again to give them a little squeeze before traveling all the way up to rest where your leg meets your hip.
His left hand trails between your thighs and rubs against your swimsuit bottoms."Quinny!" you squeal, shutting your legs together, "i'm driving!" "What?" he says acting surprised, "you're doing great. If you're that worried, we can slow down." He grabs the gear to slow down even more. "That's not what I’m worried about."
You feel him shift in the seat behind you. His left hand goes back between your legs and the other wraps around your waist. "What are you concerned about?" he whispers in your ear, leaving light kisses down your neck and onto your shoulder.
"Are you worried about someone seeing us?" A gasp leaves your lips as his fingers rub over your  swimsuit bottoms. You try to close your legs, but can't due to his legs spreading yours. He chuckles against your neck and sinks his hand into your swim bottoms. His fingers go back to rubbing slow circles on your clit. "Relax baby," His right hand envelopes yours on the wheel, you didn’t even notice your fingers turning white. You lean back into him. A finger slides between your folds. His middle finger teases your entrance then  he slides it back out running it through your folds. Repeating the motion, until his finger is completely inside.
The tension builds in your stomach. Instinctively, you grind your hips back into his lap, making him let out a moan against your skin. He picked up the  pace with his fingers, "come on baby." He urges, and he slips two fingers inside. Another gasp is let out through  your lips. He places more kisses onto your shoulder as you clench around his fingers. You chest heaving up and down as he slowly pumps his fingers into you, riding out your high.
"Good girl." He takes his fingers out of you and sticks them into his mouth. "Stand up now" He lifts you off his lap. "What are you doing?"  you ask, trying to catch your breath, falling onto the passenger seat and frantically looking around for any boats in the area.
He's standing behind the wheel now, slowing the boat down as you pass around a bend and into a cove. The air instantly cools around you as the sun peeks through the branches of the weeping willows lining the shoreline. He places the gear in park and the boat slightly drifts.
"We used to come here to fish as kids. You know that picture of me holding the bass? That was taken over there by those rocks." He points across the cove toward giant boulders in the water. "This place is beautiful. Why haven't you taken me here before?" He stands and makes his way toward you. He wraps you in his arms and places his head on top of yours. "We were never by ourselves. Always had someone tag along. It would ruin the moment." You lean back into him and listen to the chirp of the birds and the wind in the branches. "I wouldn't  be able to do this."
Suddenly, he spins you around and knocks you back onto the lounge. He climbs on top and peppers kisses onto your face. "quinn!" you squeal, trying to fight him off but you're laughing too hard.  "And," he draws out against your lips, you've stopped squirming around.  One hand is laced with his above your head and the other is wrapped around his neck. "I think we should continue the fun we had on the way over here." You hum as he places kisses on your jawline. "Well boat sex is on my bucket list." you say, his head snaps toward yours and his eyebrows raise. A smile grows on his face, "well, we can't leave that unchecked."

Really want to know why luke and jack never followed olivia after already meeting her and them beeing together for nearly a year. And also her not following them. That so weird since they are all so close
It’s questionable!! I’m not too sure how long, or when girls were followed by each of them who they’ve been in relationships with. But, I wouldn’t think too deep into it, yet atleast!!🩵

"Jack!"
The owner of the tavern perks up immediately, waving Jack over from where he stands behind the bar counter polishing glasses. He seems not to be expecting the pirate to vault over the counter, capturing him in a giant bear hug; the tavern owner stumbles back, grinning, as he wraps his arms around Jack.
"Quinn!" Jack repeats, laughing. "How're mom and dad holding up?"
Quinn sucks in a breath, letting Jack go and waving to Dawson and Luke, who've stepped inside The Electric Eel. The sign above the door sways a moment longer before stalling. He smiles widely at Luke, who nods awkwardly back, clearly also excited to be here by how he shuffles over to join his brothers, albeit on the other side of the counter. Dawson tags along, stooping to collect the letters that Jack had dropped.
"Mom's doing well, as always," Quinn reaches past Jack, setting down the stein, and pointedly avoiding the other half of the question. "Business is going strong. Thunderbolt came by a few months ago and she scammed Stammer so hard," he chuckles. "Made ten times the profit on some jewelry and fabric he thought was useless."
"Speaking of," Luke segues. "Anyone here now?"
Quinn nods. "Two, matter fact. Sensibility docked at the Cove last week." He rolls his eyes. "You wanna know what's up with them?"
"Fuck yeah," Jack cheers, finally realizing he should get on the right side of the counter and jumping back over to take a seat. As it's still early, not many people are there - only a few career drunks loitering in the corners. Luke quietly perches on a stool next to him; Dawson scoops up the last of the letters and tucks them into his coat, sitting on Luke's other side.
"Okay," Quinn begins, already collecting a few glasses and putting them under a keg whose tap he opens. "So Chabot's been the captain of Sensibility since Karlsson fucked off and retired to Pacifico, right?" At the nods of his audience, he continues, "Turns out Chabby hasn't been doing too hot. Past few years, Sensibility hasn't been able to land a big target. So they voted him out!"
"No," Dawson finds himself gasping along with the Hughes brothers. None of them seem to pay him much mind, more concerned with the gossip at hand.
"Yes!" Quinn smiles with schadenfreude. "They said he was too much of a coward and voted him out! And you know who they elected their new captain?"
"No idea," Jack admits. He closes his eyes, deep in thought. "Hamonic? Giroux? Didn't Giroux captain Viceroy back in the day?"
"Maybe him," Dawson agrees.
"Neither." Quinn grins wider, placing the full beer steins in front of the pirates. "Brady fucking Tkachuk."
"No fucking way," Jack blinks, taking a swig.
"Yes fucking way," Quinn nods.
Jack whistles, banging a fist on the table. "God damn!"
"You said there were two ships?" Luke questions, ignoring his brother's whooping and hollering at the news.
"...Santé's here too," Quinn admits.
At this, Jack seems to light up even more. "Cole's here?"
"Oh my God, I'm going to get a headache - " Quinn groans.
"Cole's here! Holy shit, Quinner! If Trevor were here too, the whole gang would be together!" Jack absolutely beams at this thought. "God, I hope Old Mallard shows her face..."
"I think I'd rather die," Luke mumbles, taking a long sip of his beer and resting his head on the counter, exchanging a horrified look with Quinn.
Dawson leans back, looking at the beverage in front of him. He closes his eyes, trying to focus on the Voices that speak in his ears and the rising headache taking over his brain. As Jack chatters on about Cole and Trevor, and The Electric Eel bustles around them, Dawson figures that now would be a good time to drain the pressure - if any of the Voices decide that now is a good time to speak, that is.

The crowd roars as the Canucks win the game - the group of boys flooding the ice to congratulate each other, tapping on helmets as they make their way to the locker room.
“I’m gonna head down to the locker room, meet you there?” Natalie shouts over the sounds of the blaring alarms and music - you nod quickly, your eyes locked on the captain skating over to his goalie, patting him firmly on the helmet hovering for a few seconds clearly praising Thatcher's game. The two teammates make their way over to the bench, the coach pulling Quinn to the side.
You watch Quinn’s shoulders slump a little and he nods his head, his coach patting him on the shoulder as he lets him walk down the tunnel into the locker room. You say quick goodbyes to the other partners in the area, slinging your bag over your shoulder.
Your phone dings in your hand, the screen lighting up with a text message.
quintin 😍: I’m gonna be a little longer than expected, I have to cover Brock's interview.
pookie ♥️ ️ : Okay, take your time.
You find a spot beside the entrance to the locker room, pulling out the AirPods tucked into your bag. Knowing Quinn him saying he was going to take longer then expected meant it was going to be over an hour before you would be seeing him. You scroll through your tiktok, making small conversation with the passing players as they join with their families making their own way home.
Eventually you spot the reporters leaving, a few more team members filing out behind them, the crowds slowly dwindling in the main lobby, though Quinn was nowhere in sight.
pookie ♥ ️ : everything alright? reporters left twenty minutes ago.
Your message is seen quickly, the ellipsis popping up into your text thread before disappearing, the cycle repeating a few times before the bubble disappears, no response from Quinn.
“Hey what are you still doing out here?” A familiar voice says as a body stops in front of you, you glance up at Brock giving him a soft smile as you take out an AirPod.
“Oh, just waiting for Quinn.” You respond quickly, “He said he was covering interviews, but they left a while ago.” You note softly, Brock tilting his head in confusion.
“Quinn wasn’t doing interviews tonight.” Brock eyebrows drop in a frown, his eyes darting back to the locker room before back down to you. “No one else is in there, if you wanna head in?” He suggests quietly, patting your shoulder before jogging over to his waiting girlfriend, her arms wrapping around his shoulders as she greets him excitedly.
You watch them for a few more moments, the happy couple leaving hand in hand before you turn towards the entrance, glancing around as you walk into the large room, it’s easy to spot the captain, his arms resting on his knees, his hockey jersey in the basket in the middle of the room, the rest of his gear still strapped to his body.
“Babe?” You call softly, taking slow steps towards the deep in thought man, his hand raking through his hair a few more times before you call out for him again, “Quinn?”
His head snaps up at your voice, his eyes darting around the empty room before focusing on you. “Oh shit.” He curses under his breath, his hand moving to undo the velcro straps of his chest pads.
“Quinn, are you okay?” You question as you drop on the bench next to him, watching as he rushes to take off his remaining gear.
“Yeah, of course.” He says quickly, shooting you an apologetic grin as he pulls the pads over his head. “Just got lost in thought.”
You glance over to Quinn every now and then as he makes quick work of his uniform, pulling on a large hoodie and sweatpants, grabbing his phone and wallet from the shelf of his locker before turning towards you.
“I’ll shower when I get home.” He promises as he leans down to press a soft kiss to your cheek, his fingers twining with yours as he grips your hand tightly. You wrap your other hand tightly around your joined hands, lifting them to press a kiss against the back of his hand.
“You played amazing today, Quinn.” You praise, letting your hands drop to swing between the two of you as Quinn leads you both to the garage, pulling his car keys out of his pocket. “I’m so proud of you, you’ve done so much for this team.” You continue, Quinn shaking his head, his hand releasing yours as you both climb into the car.
“We still have play offs to get through.” Quinn says with a long sigh, his eyes focusing in front of him as he pulls out the parking space, making his way out of the garage. Quinn’s body stays tense as his eyes remain forwards, his focus anywhere but on the way you watch him, your eyes looking over all his signs of discomfort.
Quinn stays silent for the fifteen minute drive back to your apartment - game nights usually meant your boyfriend stayed at your place, Elias and Quinn enjoying the time apart to wind down.
You follow behind Quinn as he makes his way to the elevator, his hand not reaching for yours like he normally would, his body pushing him to make it into your cozy apartment. He unlocks your front door with his spare key, dropping the bag from his trunk besides the front door, kicking off his sneakers.
You sneak in behind him, softly closing the door as he runs his fingers through his hair, his hands rubbing at his face. “Quinn, I want you to answer me honestly.” You begin softly, leaning against the back of your couch, your hand clasped in front of you. “Are you okay?”
“Huh?” He asks, his hands dropping from his face, “of course I am.” He answers quickly, he tries to smile, to erase your concern, but his smile falters as you remain silent, your brows furrowed in concern.
“Why wouldn’t I be okay?” He says, “I mean I’m living the dream right, playing my favourite sport for a living, captain of the team I’ve played on for six years, we’re going to the playoffs and I’ve got a beautiful girlfriend to top it all off.” He continues his voice carrying a sharp edge to it.
You continue the silence, hoping that maybe making him face the discomfort will give you a look into his mind.
“What do you want me to say?” He finally asks, throwing his hands in a shrug.
“I don’t know… I just want to know what’s going on inside your head.” You respond, “I want to be able to help relieve some of your stress. I wanna be able to take care of you if you’re not feeling great.” You add, watching as Quinn’s mouth drops in a frown.
“I don’t need you to take care of me.” He snaps, his tone more hostile than expected, your body pushing off the couch as you move to step forwards, your boyfriend taking a step away from you. “I’m supposed to take care of you” He says, pointing towards you for emphasis, “That’s my job. I’m supposed to take care of things at home and at work, that’s what a good leader does.”
“And, what about you?” You question softly, your arms crossing over your chest, a feeble attempt at trying to keep yourself together. “What about you, Quinn… Who takes care of you?”
You watch the emotions flash over Quinn’s face whatever facade he had kept going for the past twenty four hours faltering.
“Babe, you have so much on your plate right now, so much responsibility… let me take some of it, even just for a little while.”
“Why?” He asks, his voice barely a whisper.
“Because that’s my job.” You answer, “Because if you’re not going to take care of you, then I will. Because relationships are about lifting each other up but sometimes we just have to catch each other when we fall.” Your words are gentle as you step towards him.
“Quinn, it’s okay to fall sometimes.” Your heart sinks as you watch his face crumble, a heavy sob escaping his chest as you close the distance, pulling his body to yours. Quinn remains stiff as you wrap your arms around his neck, his face dropping against your shoulder as his body shakes.
“I’m just so tired.” His voice cracks as he speaks, finally his arms moving to constrict around your waist, your body the only thing grounding him. “I feel like I can’t breathe.” Another round of choked sobs rip from him, one of your hands gently soothing over his back, the other smoothing the back of his head.
“You’re going to be okay.” You coo, your throat constricting as you swallow down your own tears, your heart cracking in two at the state of your boyfriend, the hurt in his voice.
The two of you remain in the lounge room, your arms wrapped around each other, stuck in a standstill as Quinn lets out everything that had been weighing him down, his sobs slowly turning into sniffles, his arms squeezing around you when you move to step back.
“No.” He grumbles.
“Come with me.” You whisper, finally detaching him from you, your hands grabbing his as you pull him towards the couch, you take your spot lying down on the cushions before motioning for him to follow. Quinn seems hesitant at first, his breathing shallow before he nods joining you on the couch, his body thrown over yours, his head pressed against your chest as you resume your ministrations on his back, drawing soft shapes against his jumper.
“Share something with me.” You say, “Give me something to hold onto for you for a little while.”
“Like what?” He speaks against your shirt, the words muffled slightly by the fabric.
“Anything.” He takes a deep breath at your words.
“Rick said something to me today.” He starts, you nod slowly recounting the coach pulling the young captain aside, your hand raises to the collar of Quinn’s hoodie softly slipping under the fabric to continue your soothing on his skin. “He said he was proud of me.”
Your movements pause, waiting for Quinn to elaborate.
“He said that he couldn’t think of a better leader for the team, and that he knew that I was going to take us further than anyone imagined.” Quinn lets out a long sigh, “I just can’t find it in me to believe him.” Your eyebrows raise at his comment, your head tilting as you consider what to say.
“You’re not proud of yourself?”
“I don’t know.” He mumbles back. “I know I should be, but a part of me just feels like I haven’t done enough, like I haven’t achieved enough to feel pride.”
“Well, that’s okay.” You start, “I can be proud of you for both of us.” Quinn raises his head, resting his chin against your sternum as he glances up at you.
“Really?”
“I’ll just hold onto it until you're ready, no matter how long it takes.” You smile as you watch Quinn’s face relax a little, his own smile light on his face, as he leans forwards pressing a soft kiss to your cheek.
“You have no idea how special you are, Quinn.” You remind him as you raise your hand to push his floppy brown locks out of his face. “But I hope one day you let yourself feel it.”
“And, what about you?” Quinn asks, throwing your own question back in your face. “Do you know how special you are?”
“Probably not, but I’m trying my best to figure it out.” You smile once more, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead before reaching to the coffee table for the remote.
“I should go shower.” Quinn says as he drops his head back to your chest, his body making no moves to walk down your hallway to the bathroom.
“You probably should.” You agree with a laugh as Quinn grabs one of your hands placing it back in his hair, a soft sigh of content escaping him as you scrape your nails against his scalp.
“Thank you.” He whispers, his eyes squeezed shut as you press one more kiss to his head.
“You don’t have to thank me, it's my job.” He lets out a soft chuckle, his body relaxing further as he falls asleep to the sound of mindless reality TV, your chest swelling with the pride of two people as you glance down at your boyfriend finally resting.

Pairings: Quinn Hughes x gf!reader
Summary: the one moment you and Quinn get away from the group you take serious advantage of it.
Warnings: swearing, heavy make out session, getting caught, luke being scared, Michigan boys hyping you up
Word count: 476
Note: short story but in honour of Quinn becoming captain a captain Quinn is coming soon!!! Also I will be doing kinktober so put some request on my page for any hockey players you want.
Luke, Jack, Quinn, and the Michigan boys were at the lake house celebrating Luke's signing with New Jersey and him scoring his first goal. It was an exciting weekend of partying, but as much as you were having fun, you also wanted some alone time with Quinn, as he did too.
The boys constantly teased Quinn about only wanting time with you, and it got to the point where they’d make sexual jokes where you would blush and hide while Quinn smirked or looked at you. Quinn and you were always with each other, connected by the hip, and always wanting some sort of physical touch, but this weekend you couldn’t be more apart.
It felt as if the boys were trying to see how long you two would last without each other before one of you said something. But you both were stubborn. As of now, you were at the pool table watching Quinn as he played against Jack, and the rest of the boys were roaming around and having their own fun.
"You ain’t got shit Q." Jack called out, as Quinn only needed to get the 8-ball. You felt yourself getting bored as the boys tried to get in Quinn’s head. "I’ll be in the kitchen." You whispered into your boyfriend's ear, trailing your finger across his back. Quinn watched you the entire time, causing him to hit the 8-ball in a total different direction, making him miss.
The boys got riled up, pushing Quinn back and forth for messing up as Jack had the opportunity to win. With one push, Quinn was able to get away and swerve through people and to the kitchen, where you were sitting on the counter staring at Quinn. "Look who came around." You say, wrapping your arms around his shoulder as he nestled between your legs.
"I couldn't leave my girl all alone." Quinn says, grabbing your chin and tilting your head up. Your eyes quickly scan the room before looking back at Quinn and smashing your lips together. The kiss was heated, and it quickly turned into a heavy make-out session. Quinn’s hands travelled down your sides and all the way to your back, pulling you closer to his bulge.
You moaned into the kiss, running your hands under his shirt and feeling his warmth. "Such a needy girl." He muttered into your mouth, dragging his thumb over your lips, before you took his thumb in your mouth and started sucking. Quinn’s eyes filled with lust as he watched you do something you’d never done before.
"Wow guys! Get a fucking room!" Luke yelled, and as you two looked to the side, you saw the entire Michigan team cheering, some looking awkward while others just smiled. "Get it, Quinny!" One of the boys yelled, and Quinn simply smirked as you hid your head in his chest.

1. being left out – aged six and eleven
You sat on the grass outside of your home, your knees tucked into your chest as tears dripped down your face. Ahead of you, Jack and Luke were skating around in rollerblades with a singular net set up on the tarmac as they played a game of hockey. You'd tried to join them, even going as far as strapping up your purple rollerskates but when you'd asked your two older brothers to join them, they'd outright told you that you weren't allowed.
"Y/n/n, this is boys only game," Jack had explained, half lifting you towards the grass and away from the road. "You can't play!"
"Yeah, you can't play," Luke piped up, fidgeting with his stick, his curls peeking out from beneath his helmet.
"But-" You'd tried to wiggle out of Jack's grasp as you reached the grass.
"Stay on the grass," Jack had urged, patting your head before he skated back towards Luke.
Your bottom lip trembled as you collapsed onto the grass beneath you, being forced to watch rather than partake. You couldn't understand why you couldn't just play with them. And as you cried, neither of the two boys noticed your tears or your splotchy face.
"Mom said dinner will be ready in an hour!"
Quinn's voice called out from the front door, in shock, you turned just in time for him to glance towards you. His face fell at the sight of your miserable eyes and he quickly shut the front door before making his way towards you.
"What's wrong?" His worried voice caused your lower lip to tremble once more. Even at eleven years old, Quinn was your protector. He was the one you ran to with every small problem, the one who'd sit you down and explain things and the one who you secretly favoured the most.
You cast a look over to Luke and Jack who continued their game, before you dropped your head between your knees. Quinn sighed and carefully sat beside you, his legs stretching out far beyond your own.
"What's wrong, y/n/n?"
That was what made you burst into tears again. A very startled Quinn rapidly put his arm around you, hugging you into his side. Your tears began to stain his shirt as he awkwardly patted your head.
"Jack and Luke won't let me play!" You wailed, as a small scowl crossed Quinn's face. "They said I have to stay here...I hate here!"
"C'mon now," Quinn tried to calm you. "We don't need to play with those two stupids." You let out a sniffly laugh as you rested against his shoulder.
"Mom said you can't call them stupid anymore," you croaked out, and now it was Quinn's turn to laugh.
"I know but I'll tell you a secret–they are!"
You smiled and looked towards your two brothers who were now fighting, pushing one another back and forth.
"How about you and me go in and have a tea party?" He suggested, scrunching his nose up as he watched Jack and Luke battle it out. "We can even dress up?" You jumped to your feet excitedly, dragging Quinn up with you.
"Please!" You giggled, pulling Quinn towards the house, your tears long forgotten. "I have a tiara for you!" Quinn painted an excited expression across his face, but very real happiness spread through his body at the sight of your joy.
2. the nightmares – aged eight and thirteen
You shot awake with a startled gasp, your small hands clutching your childhood teddy. You'd been getting nightmares for weeks yet you couldn't pinpoint where they'd begun— in reality, Jack had told you countless ghost stories about a small evil ghost lurking in your room, and you seemed to have taken that story to heart.
Tears welled in your eyes as you glanced around your room in terror, the light of a pink wall flower illuminated the majority of the room...yet the shadows that lingered left your body shaking. The horrors from your nightmares, which couldn't be remembered, haunted you and the thought of going back to sleep was virtually impossible.
Your bottom lip trembled as you clutched your teddy to your chest, and jumped out of the bed towards the hallway, not daring to look behind you. The light from the bathroom down the hall illuminated the darkness, as you stood dead centre with your head tilted slightly.
You didn't know where to go.
You'd already run to your mom and dad multiple times during the night and your little self felt rather guilty. You knew they needed their sleep– everyone did.
You stifled a whimper, your tears dripping down your face as you glanced down the hall, noticing a door slightly open. Without another thought, you rushed down the hall, your bare feet slapping against the wooden flooring as you entered the open door.
You slipped into the dark room, your teddy close to your chest as you approached the lump beneath the covers on the bed by the window. Soft snores echoed through the room as you crept towards the bed as quietly as possible. Your tears were still falling, as you sniffled and carefully tapped the lump's shoulder.
You watched as he stirred, and then a familiar voice broke through the darkness, "What time is it?" The voice was groggy with sleep, but the concern was evident.
"I had a nightmare again, Q," you whispered with bleary eyes, your voice trembling with pure fear and exhaustion. "I can't sleep. I'm sorry..."
Quinn sat up, rubbing his eyes before reaching out to pull you into a comforting embrace. "Shh, it's okay. C'mere," he yawned while reassuring you, his arms enveloping you in warmth and security. He lifted you onto the bed, his half-lidded eyes glancing towards his digital clock that blinked the time 3:45 am.
You buried your face into his chest, clinging to him as if he were your lifeline. His steady heartbeat beneath your ear offered a soothing rhythm, calming your racing thoughts.
"Want me to go tell Mom?" He asked, earning him a rapid shake of the head from you.
"Okay...do you want to stay here?" Quinn hesitantly offered with as soft of a voice as he could muster so early in the morning. He pulled you away from his ever so slightly so that he could look down at you. With a half-nod, you cuddled closer to him, letting him drape half of his blanket over your body.
"Just don't hog the covers," he grumbled, lying back down on the bed, his head burying itself in his pillow. "And don't wake up early."
You smiled and melted into the comfort of Quinn's bed, your head on the edge of the pillow you were being forced to share. The feeling of the weight of exhaustion finally pulled you under and as you drifted off to sleep, the nightmares seemed to fade away, replaced by the comforting presence of your older brother by your side.
The next morning, your mom had woken up, ready to bring you to practice, only to find your bed empty. A flare of panic shot through her body, all those horror stories of child abduction running through her mind as she exited the room with pursed lips.
Ellen peered into Luke's room first, her head sticking around the wooden frame. For a mere second, she allowed herself to stifle a smile at the sight of Luke sprawled across the bed like a starfish, his covers abandoned on the floor as soft breath escaped his mouth. She nodded slowly and closed the door before checking the room beside his.
Jack's room was messy. That was the first thing she noticed. Clothes were strewn across any furniture left in sight, with muddy shoes thrown into the corner. Ellen covered her mouth to stop herself from laughing at the sight of Jack sleeping. Jack, like Luke, was sprawled across his bed, only instead of actually being on the bed– Jack was hanging half off of it. His head was almost touching the rug on his floor — his toes the same. His head was thrown back with snores periodically escaping his mouth.
She shook her head lightly before closing the door quietly and moving towards the last bedroom in the hall. Quinn's door was ajar, allowing Ellen to silently slip in. She paused in her steps at the sight ahead of her. You curled up around Quinn, your teddy snug between you two, as his arm wrapped around your head protectively. The two of you were fast asleep, oblivious to the utter relief Ellen was feeling.
She watched the two of you for a few seconds before taking a quick picture and sending it to Jim with a soft smile. Ellen looked down at you two once more and fixed the cover over the both of you. She backed away slowly and slipped out of the room leaving the two of you to sleep in for the day.
3. sickness – aged 10 and fifteen
"Are you sure you'll be okay looking after her?"
Ellen grabbed a bag from the floor beside the couch Quinn sat on, a bowl of cereal in his hands as he watched a game. You had fallen sick two days prior due to the flu and were currently bed-bound. Your dad was out of state, and your mom had to take Luke and Jack to a hockey match in the next town over.
"Yeah, Mom, don't worry," Quinn answered through muffled words as he swallowed a spoonful of food. "I can take care of her for a few hours, it'll be fine."
Ellen bit her lip in worry glancing towards the stairs before ruffling Quinn's hair. "Don't start a fire or kill either yourself or y/n," she instructed, "she might wake up soon and might want food, only give her toast and water or she'll throw it all up."
"Mom, I got it," Quinn reassured her, standing up and gathering Luke's hockey bag in his arms. "I'll help you bring these out."
Your mom had left ten minutes after with Jack and Luke, leaving Quinn in charge of the house. You had woken up to the sound of Luke yelling and the door slamming behind him. Your throat felt raw from the amount of coughing you were doing combined with the fact you could only breathe from your mouth as your nose was blocked up.
You groaned into your pillow, your clammy hands clutching your uneasy stomach as you buried yourself beneath your covers. Quinn cautiously peeked into your room at the noise of you moving around, his eyes wide and careful as they landed on your paled face and shaking body.
Quinn hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do. He had never been in charge of taking care of you while you were sick before. But seeing you there, looking so vulnerable and unwell, he knew he had to step up.
Taking a deep breath, Quinn quietly approached your bed, trying not to startle you. "Hey, it's just me," he said softly, his voice filled with concern. "How are you feeling?"
You managed to croak out a weak response, your voice barely audible. Quinn frowned and his eyebrows furrowed upon seeing how much you were struggling. Without another word, he hurried downstairs to grab a glass of water and a slice of bread for toast, just as your mom had instructed.
Returning to your room, Quinn carefully placed the items on your bedside table, as he helped you sit up, propping pillows behind your back for support. You moaned in discontent at the feeling of sickness that continued to roll through your body as he handed you the glass of water and a piece of toast.
"Drink slowly," he spoke carefully, watching anxiously as you took small sips and nibbled on the food. "You don't feel like getting sick, do you?!"
You shook your head weakly, placing the leftover crusts on your plate. You felt a tickle grow in your throat as another cough wracked through your body. Quinn jumped into action, running your back as he'd seen Mom do countlessly over the past two days. His warm hand lent you comfort as your body contorted.
Once the coughing subsided, you leaned back against the pillows, feeling exhausted but a little better with Quinn by your side. He stayed with you, chatting softly and making sure you were comfortable until you drifted off to sleep again, knowing that you were in good hands.
As you rested, Quinn kept a watchful eye on you, ready to spring into action at any sign of distress. Halfway through your unrestful nap, your body shook violently, yet your forehead was beaded with sweat. Quinn gulped in worry as he covered you with a blanket and wiped your forehead with a cool cloth.
He hated seeing you like this, it made him want to kick whoever had passed the sickness onto you.
Throughout the day, Quinn checked in on you regularly, making sure you were comfortable and had everything you needed. He even brought up some of your favourite books and movies to help pass the time when you woke, staying by your side until you drifted off to sleep again.
When your mom finally returned home with Jack and Luke– both elated from their win, she was relieved to find you resting peacefully, thanks to Quinn's attentive care.
"You did well, Quinn," Your mom smiled, pressing a kiss to his forehead as he scrunched up his nose. "Thank you."
Quinn simply shrugged it off as he looked towards your sleeping figure. Despite his nonchalant expression, deep down, he felt a sense of pride erupt inside of him knowing that he had been there for you when you needed him most.
"Let's hope you don't get sick now," Ellen hummed, brushing a hand through his hair. Quinn pushed a smile onto his face, getting sick would be worth it as long as you were better.
4. moving away – aged 16 and 20
The morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow into Quinn's room, illuminating the chaos of packing strewn across the floor. Hockey jerseys, equipment, and mementoes from his years of playing for the local team adorned his walls, each item holding memories of victories, defeats, and the camaraderie of teammates. But today, there was a sense of bittersweetness in the air, a mixture of excitement and sadness, as Quinn prepared to completely leave Michigan behind and embark on a new chapter of his life in Vancouver. He had been offered the opportunity to play for the Vancouver Canucks, a dream come true for any aspiring hockey player. But with it came the prospect of leaving behind everything he had ever known – our family, our home, our tight-knit community.
You sat on the edge of his bed, watching him carefully fold his clothes, a furrow of worry etched on his brow. "Are you okay, Quinn?" you asked softly, reaching out to place a comforting hand on his shoulder.
He sighed, setting down the hoodie he was folding and meeting your gaze with a mix of apprehension and sadness in his eyes. "I don't know," he eventually admitted, his voice tinged with uncertainty. He ran a hand through his tousled hair. "I mean, Vancouver is such an incredible opportunity, but... I'm going to miss everyone and don't you dare tell that to the idiots out back."
You let a small smile grace your face at the thought of Jack and Luke catching wind of Quinn's unease. You found yourself nodding understandingly, feeling a pang of sadness yourself at the thought of Quinn leaving. He was not only your older brother but also one of your best friends, someone you had always looked up to and relied on for guidance and support. The idea of him being thousands of miles away was daunting, to say the least.
Even when he was in college he was only one measly phone call away and then another forty-minute drive. He was never thousands of miles away in a different country.
You nodded sympathetically, understanding the weight of his dilemma. Quinn had always been fiercely devoted to our family and friends, and the thought of leaving them behind was undoubtedly terrifying. But deep down, You knew he couldn't let this opportunity slip away – not when it was his chance to shine on the ice and pursue his passion for hockey at the highest level.
"Quinn, listen to me," I said, stepping closer to him and placing a reassuring hand on his arm. "I know it's scary to leave, but this is your dream we're talking about. You've worked so hard for this moment, and you can't let fear hold you back."
"You'll do great, Quinn," you continued to reassure him, with a cracked smile. "And we'll still be here for you, no matter how far away you are. Plus, Vancouver should be nice, and I've only been there twice, maybe I can visit with Mom and Dad?"
Quinn managed a small smile at your words, though you could tell the worry still lingered in his eyes. "I know," he said softly. "But it won't be the same without having you all there with me." He looked at you, his eyes searching yours for reassurance. "I don't want to leave you all behind."
I smiled softly, feeling a swell of pride for my big brother. "We'll be okay, Quinn. Mom and Dad are proud of you, and so are Luke, Jack, and I. Hell, before you know it, Jack might be up there playing with you, who knows!"
A sense of calm washed over Quinn as your words sank in, his tense shoulders relaxing ever so slightly. He knew that no matter where his hockey career took him, your family would always be his anchor, his support system through thick and thin. You scooted closer to him, wrapping your arms around him in a tight hug.
"We'll always be here for you, Quinn," you whispered, feeling the weight of the impending separation settling over you both. "And we'll be cheering you no matter where you are, no matter what happens, every step of the way."
You sat there in silence for a moment, clinging to each other as if afraid to let go. But eventually, Quinn pulled away, a determined look in his eyes as he resumed packing his belongings.
"You're right," he sighed, his voice steady with newfound resolve.
"As always," you beamed with a laugh, as Quinn elbowed you playfully. You bowed your head glancing at Quinn briefly. "I'm gonna miss you, y'know?"
"I know," he hummed, "but like you said, you can come visit whenever you want and you can call or text me whenever you need to." You nodded silently, swallowing the lump in your throat.
You smiled, feeling a surge of pride welling up inside you. Your brother may be leaving Michigan behind, but you knew that he was destined for great things in Vancouver. And no matter where life took you, you would always be there for each other, bound by the unbreakable bond of family.

Post Game | Q.Hughes
Tumblr media
warnings - none! maybe some spelling errors! this was a draft that I had and just now finished. hope you like it!
The buzzing energy of the crowd after a harrowing Canucks win has you out of your seat cheering along with them as the buzzer goes off signaling the end of the game. The Canucks came out with a 5-2 win and you couldn’t be happier for Quinn and the team. You talk to the rest of the wags while waiting on Quinn to text you back about where to meet him after he is done with media.
Glancing at your phone, you see he sent you a text.
quinn: I’ll be only about 10 more minutes if you want to go wait by the car?
you: okay I’ll be there
Saying goodbye to the other wags, and even some fans that recognized you as Quinn’s girlfriend, you make your way to his car. You didn’t have the key, so you just leaned against the car.
Eventually you see more players making their way to their own cars, so you know Quinn should be on his way.
Petey is one of those who is making his way towards his car, spotting you he teases you by saying, “Goodness he’s making you wait out here? Man what a boyfriend he is!”
“I know? Gosh making me wait forever on him!” You say back to him laughing.
“Gosh not my best friend and my girlfriend teaming up on me!” Quinn says as he spots you two standing by his car. “It was only like 10 minutes that she had to wait,” he says walking up to you and wrapping you in a hug.
“10 minutes is way too long for her to be waiting!” Petey says shaking his head at Quinn.
Quinn just laughs, “Oh be quiet! We’re heading home now, good game tonight. See you tomorrow, wait, we do have morning skate tomorrow right?”
Petey laughs, “Aren’t you supposed to be the captain and know all these things? Yes, at like 10? Anyway, have a good night you two.”
Waving back to him, you say, “Have a good night, drive safe!”
Quinn unlocks the car, opens the door for you and says, “Let’s head home, love.”
You climb into the passenger seat and buckle up while Quinn goes to his side of the car and climbs in. You give him a quick peck on the cheek, saying, “Good game tonight baby, the crowd was buzzing at the end, it was crazy!”
“I’m glad you were here for it. I play ten times better when you’re here.” He says as he turns the heat on in the car since he knows you get cold easily. Yawning he says, “What do you want to eat? Do you want to stop for something or do we have anything at home?”
Thinking on it, you suggest, “I think we should just stop and get something since it’s late and I don’t want to cook and I know you don’t want to.”
He shrugs, “That’s fine with me. I can see you’re already getting tired so I don’t want you to cook. How about grabbing some Chinese food from that one place by our apartment?”
Nodding your head you agree with him, “Go ahead and head there and I’ll place the order to go.”
Quinn backs out the parking space and exits the garage. You place the order for the Chinese restaurant which is only 5 minutes down the road. Once he pulls into a parking spot, you guys just wait there until the food is ready. Quinn is the first to speak up, with a chuckle, he says, “Did you see me completely fall out there during warm ups, over some pucks?”
Not expecting him to ask that, you bark out a laugh, “Ha, yes I did! Don’t worry, I made sure you made it back up and skated again before I laughed…,” You say back to him shyly.
“Hmmm, I’m sure you did wait! As soon as someone falls, you can’t help but to burst out laughing, no matter if you wait on them getting up or not!” He says, as he just throws his head back against his headrest, chuckling to himself. Sometimes you just can’t help laughing at someone who falls, you’ve been trying to work on it.
“I know, but I did really wait on you to get up!” You say, checking your phone to see if you had gotten a message on whether the food was ready… no message yet.
Quinn looks over at you, he takes his hand to move some hair out of your face that is illuminating from the street lights, he says, “I know I already said it, but I’m glad you came tonight, love when you’re at the games.” Due to work, and traveling of your own, you make it to his games a third of the time, but if you can’t make it, you always make sure to have it on to watch at home or wherever you are. If you can’t watch it, you make sure to keep live updates on.
“I know, wish I could make it to more,” You say smiling at him. A ping from your phone indicates the order is ready. “Looks like our food is done, do you want to go in and get it or me?”
Moving his hand away from your face, he reaches for the door handle, “Don’t worry, I can get it, whats the name under?”
“I think I put it under Hughes, if not then it’s under my name.” He gives you a nod before opening the car door and heading into the place. You see him through the restaurant’s window, he is chatting with one of the owners (that you both have gotten to know since you both always get food from here). He grabs the bag of food, waves goodbye to the staff, and then heads out of the restaurant towards the car. Unlocking the door for him, you grab the bag of food out of his hand.
He says, “The owner says hello, and he made sure to give you extra fortune cookies since he knows love them. He also hooked us up with some extra Rangoon’s since the team won.”
“Well for that, I hope you tipped him well!”
“Of course, yes.”
Looking back over at him, you say, “Let’s head home, so we can eat all of this lovely food and sit on the couch and watch our show!”
Quinn puts the car in reverse and makes his way to the main road. He grabs your hand and thinks that there is no one else he rather spend time with after a game.

Dawson closes his eyes, burrowing his nose into Dougie's side. The pilot smiles down at him, then looks to the right at the rest of the group at the tavern. His eyes lock with Arber's for a long moment before he glances back down into his beer.
Hey, Dawson now tries to open the connection wide. Arber?
Hm? The gunner tilts his head back, stretching his neck.
Why's it gotta be so loud?
It's just how it is, Arber sighs through the connection. You've got a lot of spirits. It gets loud.
Dawson nods into Dougie's side. Both he and Arber sit there for a long moment before the connection flickers off, only the Voices audible floating between the two. The rest of the world comes back into focus.
Brady raises his glass, clambering up on top of his stool, wobbling a little bit as he stands. "To the fucking new era of Sensibility!" he roars. "A round for all of you, on me!"
"Fuck yeah," Trevor grins, taking another long swig of the whiskey bottle - it's about half empty by now, which means he's probably incredibly drunk, given how much of a lightweight he looks. That plus he tries not to cough every time he takes a drink.
"Quinn!" Jack yells. "Get us some glasses of port, Brady's buying!"
Quinn grins, strolling casually back around the counter. "You want the nice stuff, Tkachuk?" he asks, mellifluous, reaching up to get the nice glasses from their spot on a high shelf. "Also, get off my stool."
"You're not the boss of me," Brady complains back, nevertheless flopping down. His coat hangs behind him, exposing his entire chest to the group. Jesus, this dude.
"That's what I thought." Quinn uncorks a bottle he procured from under the counter, pouring a bit of the port bottle into each of the glasses. The bartender then slides each glass to one of the nine pirates sitting at the counter before taking the tenth for himself. "To Brady's shitty financial decisions," he toasts, smirking.
"To shitty financial decisions," the rest of the pirates echo, taking sips of the port, which gets Brady blushing with embarrassment and muttering under his breath. Dawson merely looks at the glass in front of him, not moving to touch it.
He's just... not in the mood for it. At all. Not when it's loud like this.
God, he hopes they get out of here soon. Why were they here again in the first place? Right, they were waiting for Nico. And Nico's, unfortunately, almost assured to end up in the same place that Jack is. So they're stuck here until their captain shows up, which then means Arber talks to him, which is more waiting.
Dawson hates waiting.
Especially when the Voices are loud and the world is loud around them.
He reaches out tentatively for the glass, but drops his hand just moments before touching it. It's rude, isn't it? To deny a drink with friends? And yet he doesn't think he should accept it. What did he do for it?
Dawson shakes his head almost imperceptibly, letting his arm fall to his side. No. Better not to.
