“Who is bringing drugs to Punjab at such a massive scale ? asks Kejriwal
AAP Party chief, Arvind Kejriwal is trying his best to make AAP’s position strong in Gujarat. On Sunday, he raised a few questions after a big lead was given by the Punjab Police regarding a big drug haul in Gujrat. The police seized around 38 kg of heroin in the state, which as per the Punjab Police top officials, came through the sea route of Gujrat.
Gaurav Yadav, Director General of Police shared a video on Twitter in which he can be seen talking about a huge success recorded in Punjab under the campaign against drugs. “It (around 38 kg of heroin) was seized was smuggled through sea route from Gujarat, it was further transported in Punjab via trucks,” he said,
The Police have already held two smugglers in the case and have identified Sonu Khatri as the main culprit. Sonu is based out of India. “We are continuing the probe to unravel the network further,”  the senior official further added.
Kejriwal shared the video and asked who has been the mastermind behind the drug scandal in the BJP-ruled state. “Who is bringing drugs to Punjab at such a massive scale?” the Delhi chief minister - whose AAP is also ruling in the state - said.
“Who is the kingpin? Just imagine how many such incidents must be getting missed every day. At this scale, is trafficking possible without the involvement of top shots? You are plunging the future of the country’s youth into the dark,” Kejriwal’s tweet - roughly translated from Hindi – read.
AAP is campaigning hard in the state and is all set to challenge the BJP which has had the reign of the state for the last 27 years.

MASSIVE FARMER'S PROTESTS OUTSIDE INDIAN CAPITAL AND ACROSS THE NORTH OF THE COUNTRY
📹 Massive protests are confronted with teargas, armed police with rubber bullets and drones as thousands of farmers, mostly in India's northern Punjab region, protest on Tuesday demanding a Minimum Support Price or MSP for all crops to raise farmer's income.
Dozens of Farmer's unions participated in the strikes, calling for a "Delhi Chalo" or March to Delhi.
Police in and around the capital have erected barriers on highways surrounding New Delhi, and have begun firing tear gas and rubber bullets at the approaching farmers.
Tractors, along with thousands of farm hands, are seen in footage nearing the outskirts of New Delhi, in the northern Haryana state, being confronted by officers with gas and smoke bombs, including some dropped from buzzing drones overhead.
Authorities have shut down Internet services in some areas where protestors approach, and have erected concrete roadblocks and barriers, while local officials have banned public gatherings and are deploying extra security personnel.
Officials in New Delhi emphasized that sufficient police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed to all entry points to the city.
Farmers are demanding dozens of changes, including a new MSP or floor price for crops to increase and guarantee farmer income, as well as a full debit waiver, according to local union officials.
Political officials in New Delhi say they're open to talks, with Agriculture Minister, Arjun Munda telling reporters on Tuesday that the Federal government already is "bound to protect the interest of farmers."
"Farmers also need to understand that inconvenience shouldn’t be caused to the public,” Minister Munda said, adding the government was always ready for negotiations with the Farmer's unions.
“We are ready to do everything possible to find a solution to this issue,” he said.

Canadian news organizations and federal political leaders are having their accounts blocked by Twitter after tweeting about the Indian government’s suppression of civil liberties in Punjab.
The Indian government has taken draconian measures to suppress “anti-national sentiments” in the state of Punjab, including cutting Internet access for millions, banning group gatherings and invoking colonial-era laws that give police the power to detain people for up to 12 months without charges, as they search for Amritpal Singh, a popular but controversial Sikh activist and separatist figure.
Police in Punjab justify their self-described “mega crackdown” as a way to stop the spread of “fake news,” but critics say authorities are silencing dissent and helping the government spread disinformation.
The crackdown has also impacted the ability of Canadian journalists and politicians to provide accurate information or voice concerns. [...]

On this day, 23 March 1931, Indian revolutionary socialists Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar were executed by British colonial authorities in what is now Punjab, Pakistan. They had been sentenced to death for assassinating a senior British police officer in 1928, to avenge the police killing of Lala Lajpat Rai during an anti-colonial demonstration. While they opposed British colonialism, rather than narrow nationalism they advocated working class revolution against both British and Indian capitalists. They were all just 22-23 years old. Singh commented: "They may kill me, but they cannot kill my ideas. They can crush my body, but they will not be able to crush my spirit". In the wake of their conviction, Mohandas Gandhi appealed to the Viceroy of India to commute their sentences, but he also appealed to huge crowds not to take action to secure their release, as he had signed a truce agreement with authorities. After they were executed, Gandhi was greeted by a crowd he described as "incensed" flying black flags and shouting “Gandhi go back”, “Down with Gandhism”, “Gandhi's truce has sent Bhagat Singh to gallows” and “Long live Bhagat Singh”. After their deaths, Bhagat Singh in particular became a national hero. TWO MONTHS AFTER teaming up with the Indian government to censor a BBC documentary on human rights abuses by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Twitter is yet again collaborating with India to impose an extraordinarily broad crackdown on speech.
Last week, the Indian government imposed an internet blackout across the northern state of Punjab, home to 30 million people, as it conducted a manhunt for a local Sikh nationalist leader, Amritpal Singh. The shutdown paralyzed internet and SMS communications in Punjab (some Indian users told The Intercept that the shutdown was targeted at mobile devices).
While Punjab police detained hundreds of suspected followers of Singh, Twitter accounts from over 100 prominent politicians, activists, and journalists in India and abroad have been blocked in India at the request of the government.

Three are Arrested over the Murder of a Popular Indian Rapper
People hold a vigil last month in the Indian city of Amritsar for murdered Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moose Wala
Indian police have arrested three men accused of murdering hip-hop star Sidhu Moose Wala, seizing weapons including a grenade launcher from the suspects.
Moose Wala -- also known by his birth name Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu -- was killed in his car in the northern state of Punjab in the month of October.
The 28-year-old was a popular musician both in India and among Punjabi communities abroad, especially in Canada and Britain.
Special police commissioner H.S. Dhaliwal told reporters in Delhi on Monday that three suspects had been detained in the western state of Gujarat over the weekend.
Police recovered explosive grenades with high explosives, a rocket launcher, an assault rifle and electronic detonators from the suspects.
Local media reported that Goldy Brar a gangster from Canada, claimed to be the perpetrator of the murder of the rapper and was in contact with the hitmen the morning of it.
"Brar called one of the shooters on the day of the incident and directed him to ensure the execution of Moose Wala," the Hindustan Times newspaper quoted a police officer as saying. Mc titan launcher
According to the officer, "If guns fail, kill him in an explosion."
Moose Wala rose to fame with catchy songs that attacked political opponents and rival rappers, portraying himself as a man who fought for his community's pride and justice, and then gunned down enemies.
He was criticised for his proclamation of gun culture through music videos in which he often posed with firearms.
His murder also brought to light the organised crime in Punjab which is a major way for drugs entering India through Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Many observers link the rise in gang violence and the increase in the use of illegal weapons to the narcotics market which is primarily comprised of heroin and opium.

Rajvinder Kaur and her husband Randhir Singh are spending what could be their last few weeks in Canada, fighting their imminent deportation back to India.
Their demand for refugee status was rejected despite claims they are the victims of political violence in their native Punjab region in northern India.
"We've been through a nightmare in India, including the arrest and torture of my husband," explains Kaur, a former village chief in a region where ethnic tensions between Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs are common.
Kaur says he was arrested and tortured by internal security police on suspicions he offered shelter to radicalized Sikhs seeking independence in the disputed region that straddles the Indian and Pakistani border.

Patna, India — At least 31 people died and 20 others were hospitalized in serious condition after allegedly drinking tainted liquor sold without authorization in eastern India, a top elected official said Thursday. The deaths occurred Tuesday and Wednesday and the victims belonged to three villages in Saran district of Bihar state where the manufacturing, sale and consumption of liquor are prohibited.   The deaths were reported in a district government-run hospital where the sick were brought by their families for treatment, said Dr. S.D. Sinha, the hospital chief.   Sale and consumption of liquor were prohibited in Bihar state in 2016 after women's groups campaigned against poor workers splurging their meager incomes on drinking.   Police officer Santosh Kumar said several of the 20 hospitalized had lost their eyesight.   Several opposition parties, including the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, held protests Thursday outside the state legislature building to demand the state's liquor ban be scrapped and some monetary compensation provided to the bereaved families.   Sushil Modi, the state BJP leader, said more than 1,000 people have died after drinking tainted liquor since the ban was imposed six years ago. The BJP is in opposition in the state.   Nitish Kumar, the state's top elected official belonging to the socialist party Janata Dal, rejected their demands and said the ban on the sale of liquor was "not my personal wish but a response to the cries of the women of the state."   Three people have been detained for questioning for allegedly selling spiked alcohol in the area, he said. Saran district is nearly 40 miles north of Patna, the Bihar state capital.
Deaths from illegally brewed alcohol are common in India, where illicit liquor is cheap and often spiked with chemicals such as pesticides to increase potency. Illicit liquor has also become a hugely profitable industry across India, where bootleggers pay no taxes and sell enormous quantities of their product to the poor at a cheap rate.   At least 28 people died and 60 others became ill from drinking tainted liquor in the western Indian state of Gujarat earlier this year. Gujarat is another Indian state where the manufacturing, sale and consumption of liquor are prohibited.
In 2020, at least 120 people died after drinking tainted liquor in India's northern Punjab state.

Reimagining the Future of South Asia Amidst Historical Divisions.

One became the mother of democracy in India, where the rape of women is still not fully investigated, corruption is high, and law and order is bought with money to this day. Any woman even in modern India today probably scared to report her rape.
“This part of the world was considered as wealthy as Europe as back as 1500’s. We were a good host to Mugal invaders and then followed by the British East India company.
Millions of people died to obtain the birth of a divided India on the 15th of August 1947.
Millions more died trying to leave what was a home for a new home under a new sky.
MThis was India Sky, Pakistani Sky and later to become Bangladesh Sky. Yet we have forgotten that Sky is only one and it cannot be divided.
We left the horrible occupation for freedom for which we were ill-prepared.
The birth of India and Pakistan was built on the bodies of immigrants.
One became the mother of democracy in India, where the rape of women is still not fully investigated, corruption is high, and law and order is bought with money to this day. Any woman even in modern India today probably scared to report her rape. She knows too well that she will be interrogated by a Police 10, Police Senior, DCP, Press, and lawyers. She will be virtually ripped apart so she probably thinks no point in reporting.
Mother of democracy but really we are not as we are divided on caste, regional biases, language bias, religion, and yes we are independent. Many argue with me that at least we ar in control of our own destiny. I don’t agree with this destiny which takes us to an unknown path.
India is known for thousands of years as the land of learned people, peace-loving, law-abiding people.
How is corruption rampant in India? How will anyone get justice? Not possible unless you have money and connections.
We have achieved some economic progress due to some of our policies instigated in 1970 and 1980.
Pakistani where shall I start, it is quite close to being labeled as a failed state. It was formed yet again by two people Mohammed Allam Iqbal and Mohammed Ali Jinnah. It was supposed to be a Muslim household and a democratic one. Democracy in Pakistan never flourished and the institution of the army always had an upper hand in all things
In the beautiful fields of Punjab, the Deseret of Sind was never allowed to belong to the workers.
Landowners controlled the masses and hence wealth did not move much to the workers.
Pakistan means Pure Land but it’s politics is filthy. It was a dreamland for the immigrants but in 1960 it suffered the Bengal massacre which lead to the division of the country. An independent election won by Bengalis was not accepted and led to the birth of yet another country under another Sky!!!
The land of pure is often finding it hard to control its 4 provinces. Lovely people of Punjab are made to fight Sindhis and etc.
Economical it has also not prospered due to lack of education, misunderstanding of the Teachings of Islam, early marriages, etc.
So, in the end, we are worse off than what we were once and worse led by foreigners. We must continue the search for a United India and strengthen the hands of the ordinary people.
We can be the biggest economic market if we still believe in
Breakfast in Dhaka
Lunch in Delhi
Dinner in Lahore
we will have no choice but eventually to come and find a way forward.
