You know, I gotta say I'm really glad I'm hardly on twitter and BARELY know how to navigate it. Because I never actually SEE any of the drama going on over there, I just hear it from tumblr people coming here from over there, and that's definitely the case here as well as well

And I know I haven't really talked much about QSMP Drama before, but what's going on right now is hitting me a little harder than I would've thought, so I do wanna give my two cents on it

For starters, I read through the entire document that Cellbit put out and I feel absolutely horrible for what he's going through right now, and for what he went through in the past. Especially since I've been through something similar to one of the things he mentioned. Not to mention the fact that I'm also most likely asexual as well. (This is kinda why I wanted to talk about it at all, if I'm being honest) I really hope things get better for him, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart

And as for the apparently rampant xenophobia that's been targeted towards the Brazilian community, I honestly feel absolutely terrible that this has been happening. And I really hope that people can come here and find a better part of the community to interact with, if they choose to stay at all. Which I can certainly understand anyone choosing to leave, however unfortunate that is. Either way, I'm really sorry this has been happening to you guys, and it never should have happened in the first place (And anyone else who's experienced this, you have my sympathy as well, even if I know it isn't really gonna help much)

For anyone that stays, I'm really sorry things have been so shitty. Obviously there's not gonna be any place that's completely safe and tolerant, but I certainly hope things over here are better than on twitter

QSMP has been an amazing experience for me, and the fact that I've learned so much about so many different cultures has been absolutely incredible. I'm not the kind of person who can just learn this kind of stuff by reading up on it, so this has really been a great way to learn about things that I either never thought to look into, or just wasn't able to understand for whatever reason

Anyone that sees this sort of project, which has been connecting so many different communities and cultures, and decides to still be so intolerant and hateful, are just a special kind of awful. And frankly, they're the ones losing out on something incredible

A former Canadian language and culture adviser who served NATO in Afghanistan filed a lawsuit at the end of July alleging the government has not allowed his family in Afghanistan to seek refuge in Canada.

That followed a case filed in May by two other former language and culture advisers who served in the Canadian military. They similarly accuse the government of insisting their families don’t qualify for programs bringing Afghan refugees to Canada.

They all accuse the government of offering advantages to Ukrainians that were not offered to Afghans hoping to escape the Taliban takeover in 2021.

When it comes to Dracula’s character, it is always worth noting that while he is indeed a sickening and vile man with none of the redeeming qualities recent media has given him, these qualities were born out of xenophobia on Bram Stoker’s part.

With Victorian fears surrounding foreign domination of the land, especially from Eastern Europe, it is no wonder Dracula’s character is written the way he is. He is an Eastern European man described to have animalistic features and the nature of a predator who wishes to take root in England and spread his infliction, feasting on the blood of innocent English women. Not to mention the hair on his palms likely being a reference to an old myth I’m not sure I can say without tumblr murdering me, but it’s pretty easy to search up said myth and the negative connotations that would have surrounded it, as well as Bram’s intent with said detail.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that ‘Dracula is a monster who wears the skin of a man and this is an example of great horror’ and ‘Dracula being dehumanised and compared to a predator is written based on Xenophobic beliefs’ are ideas that can co-exist. It is genius horror as it creates a sense of unease in his actions, especially when he attempts to mimic the manners of a human, but when doing deeper literary analysis, you cannot ignore that this horror was written by a Victorian and for a Victorian audience, and would thus reflect societal fears of the time. Most Gothic Horror novels tend to reflect societal fears at the time, take Frankenstein or The Picture of Dorian Gray for example.

I suppose my point here is that yes Dracula is a deeply disturbing and discomforting villain, but when doing a more in depth literary analysis on him and his actions, you cannot separate Bram Stoker’s beliefs and intent from the character. This goes for a lot of things in the novel, and old novels in general, hence why critical thinking is a very important skill to have when going into them, but I’m mainly pointing out Dracula’s double-sided coin here because someone’s gotta be the Dracula apologist on this site! (This is a joke of course, I am in no way a Dracula apologist I just do way too many mini analyses on him in my spare time)

I have probably made a post similar to this before but I do not remember doing so and therefore I will treat this as a completely new and original post. The joys of having ADHD and choosing the worst character ever to fixate on.

I have to ask, in a world that contains Injustice and The Boys, how is Brightburn the worst evil Superman story?

I mean, its not good, but what makes it the worst?

Ooohhh boy, get prepared for a RANT.

You see, the basis of an evil Superman story is based on Superman....being evil, so the narrative has to clarify why he's evil. If you're a good evil Superman story, you can take away his loving parents and have him be raised by a government intent on weaponizing him until the power completely corrupts him. If you're a poorly written but inoffensive evil Superman story, he just had one bad day too many. If you're a bad evil Superman story, you can just have him be evil for....no real reason, you just hate Superman and want to see him be a dick.

And if you are Brightburn, the worst evil Superman story, Superman is evil purely because he's an immigrant.

Now, they don't say this outright, because then everyone involved would be like "Wow this is fucked up actually" and stop. But look at the way they treat him. He has no reason for being evil, it's just his "true nature". His native language is ominous in tone. "He looks like us, but he is not one of us!". No amount of good parenting or empathy will fix that: he is not one of us, and therefore he is inherently evil. He answers to the call of his unknown race and kills everyone because he is not human and thus cannot see humans as people. There's some implications that his ship was brainwashing him but compared to how long they go on about how unnatural and different he is, it's pretty clear he was doomed to go evil either way. Because he's not one of us.

It is not a subversion, it is undoing the original subversion, that Superman was an immigrant and a hero, in favor of humanity's oldest and worst lie: the Other is evil and must be destroyed. And that is pretty much the most offensive, cruel, lazy, and downright wrong interpretation of a character created by immigrants as a hero representing themselves that could possibly exist.

𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄. Huỳnn Loan Phượng The name on Nadia's birth certificate is her family name, Huỳnn, her middle name, Loan and her given name, Phượng. The luan is a deified bird across East Asian mythology, often representing an omen of peace to come and virtue. The phượng hoàng (pictured in the banner art of this post) is commonly referred to as the "Chinese phoenix," a composite creature made up several birds (which often change) and other animals. Its body represents celestial bodies and the 5 fundamental colors of its feathers represent the 5 virtues of Confucius. While it does not bear many similarities to the Western phoenix, there is an association with fire, as it is said to have been born of the sun and is commonly depicted with a fireball. It is a positive symbol, often an omen of peace, prosperity, and happiness, but also represents loyalty and honesty.

Nadia Atalanta Growing up in middle America in the late eighties/nineties meant that Nadia was encouraged to pick an "American" name that was "easier" for American teachers and friends to pronounce. Nadia was chosen from a list of names her first grade teacher had (a little dated, as she believes "Nadia" was there due to the popularity of Nadia Comăneci in the seventies). Prior to those adventures, she refused to marry unless her suitor could best her in a footrace.

𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐔𝐈𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐒. 𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐏𝐇𝐘. Nadia was recruited into The Foundation directly out of upper-education, concurrent with her brother, Mark, in the greater Chicago metro area. Both Nadia and Mark excelled quickly, she in field work and infiltration and he in research and containment. Mark would eventually become respected within the Experimental Containment Research group and Nadia would be assigned to Mobile Task Force: Delta-5: “Front Runners.”

The majority of her career was spent with Delta-5. There, she proved intelligent, adept, and obedient. She expressed a deep satisfaction for the work within MTF Delta-5 and it has been reported from multiple supervisors throughout this time that Nadia was one of the brightest operatives they had seen in an age. The general consensus was that she would achieve MTF Commander at an exceptionally young age.

In 2017, Mark  entered into a routine encounter with an anomaly that would prove fatal. Officially, the Foundation maintains that failure to adhere to protocol led to Mark’s death. Nadia vehemently disagrees, as Mark was always meticulous. Directly following his death, inquiries were made and the initial decision was upheld. Nadia has refused to accept the Foundation’s explanation. Most information and files related to his death and the incident have been expunged and data-locked.

Following 3 months of leave, Nadia returned to active duty. Her discipline had collapsed and her behavior became erratic and dangerous. There were numerous disciplinary warnings and write-ups, culminating in the incident with a member of  GoI-004: “Church of the Broken God,” where Nadia deliberately sabotaged her cover to enter into an unprovoked physical altercation. She was reassigned to Mobile Task Force Xi-13: “Sequere Nos” as a consequence. There was a successful, largely uneventful year with MTF Xi-13 – and then the encounter with SCP-19-2001-1.

Nadia’s assignment has been in flux for the past year since the encounter with SCP-192001-01. Directly following the incident, she was remanded to 6 months of medical leave. An additional 3 months of mental health leave was recommended, but Nadia declined. Since returning from leave, she has been working in the Department of Decommissions.

𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒. Paragon, Fallen Nadia used to be an exemplar within the Mobile Task Forces, particularly MTF Delta-5. She rose through ranks fast and easy, enjoying her work and eager to gain her own command. That's all in shambles, now, but it if your character has been through MTFs, they may have heard about Atalanta, or any of her triumphs from the earlier days. If not, there's still the chance that your character worked with MTF Xi-13 and could have encountered the current shade of Nadia. Personal Project Nadia is still desperate to find out exactly what happened to her brother. I can definitely see her picking the brains of anyone who might have information, whether about that specific incident or just containment and breaches in general. Hand-to-Hand When she's not avoiding everyone in her room, Nadia will likely be training in the gym facilities. While she prefers to train solo, she also loves to spar and practice combat. If your character is a fighter, or would like to be, they could potentially cross on the mat. Wilderness Scouts Nadia has not joined the Walking Club (Seriously?), but she is often wandering through the wooded area around the base. While she is absolutely looking for solitude on these treks (with the rare exception being made for Dying Breed), your character could encounter her and, if they're quiet, they may just be allowed to walk with her.

Weird and fucked up thinking about the way the people I grew up around alienated anyone perceived as too “other” or associated with someone who’s not like them. Like, I had a pretty solid social advantage. I’m white, I’m thin, I was able bodied as a kid, I was born in the US (where I grew up), but still I ended up hiding most associations with any other cultures that weren’t either mine or the few exceptions of the people I grew up around (ex: Russian culture, since a lot of them were Russian).

And it’s fucked up, I don’t know, I know I didn’t have it as bad as people who where born into the cultures ostracized by that community, but it was awful to hide my joy growing up.

I didn’t sing songs from Fiddler on the Roof while at the cult. I didn’t wear a sari there ever, even though a family friend had taught me and my brother how to put one on/together. I didn’t linger long on the Native art that I loved so much and grew up around when I was with others in the cult.

I the only things I actually shared around those people were by mistake (and then realizing oh, I can’t do that again), or through food, and even that was kinda cutting it close. I didn’t talk about where we got some of my favorite food because it was from the nearest East Asian shopping center and they wouldn’t understand, just judge. No one understood the appeal of curry and rice and said it looked like vomit. Hell, people thought I was weird for knowing how to use chopsticks, or how to order things at a Mexican restaurant that weren’t “the usual” without looking like a complete dumbass.

should not be running a multilingual server like. what’s with the “ * = asian”. why does he have a shitton of English ccs but like one French and one German cc. why is he ranking people by subs is he literally just looking up popular people from the language communities he’s looking for and putting them down without regard to anything else. why is he listing English speaking countries and like half of them are the British isles but he’s not got anything else for any other language. this is awful.

Having just tucked his oldest son into bed on Wednesday evening, Sebastian Ibarra walked into his living room at home in British Columbia's North Okanagan district and saw a text from his spouse asking if he'd seen the news.

He did a quick online search and learned that the federal government was reimposing some visa requirements on visiting Mexican nationals to curb the number of asylum claims in Canada and stem the flow of people crossing into the United States.

Taken aback, Ibarra said he thought of his parents and brother — who are supposed to visit him from Mexico this summer.

Every Shinigami has a different method of procuring a human's remaining lifespan. Of course every Shinigami writes the human's name in their Death Note to kill them, thus claiming that human's remaining lifespan for their own, but it's which human the Shinigami chooses that varies. Some choose humans who have less time left to live, to be more merciful, in a way. Others choose humans who have a lot of years left on their lives, to give themselves more time. Other Shinigami choose completely at random, without any regard to a human's remaining lifespan.

Doomsday chooses completely at random. She doesn't particularly care who she kills, and that's not because she's concerned about forming attachments or anything, it's simply because it doesn't matter to her. Whenever she needs to add more time onto her own life, she looks through a portal into the human world, picks out the first human she sees, writes their name in her notebook, and goes about her day. Unless they have a small amount of time left, and then she might write a few names before calling it a day.

Sometimes, though, when she's bored and making bets with Ryuk and taking turns throwing their notebooks through the portals to mess with the humans, Doom will observe the humans a bit more closely. She's spent a bit of time both on Earth and watching the goings on of Earth through the portals. Whenever Ryuk is with a human on Earth, she watches him through the portals, laughing at his successes and failures. Whenever she herself is with a human on Earth, she learns all that she can about them.

She's learned how very greedy some of them are. How power hungry. Some of them like to hoard wealth. If they hoarded anything else it'd be called a mental illness and they'd have people from all over the city called in to haul away all their stuff, but if they're hoarding resources? Cash? Then apparently it's okay. Applauded, even, and heavily protected by the law, even if it's directly causing the suffering of millions of others.

Humans are really weird. And as evidenced, they love death.

This human would certainly love death. Call it a sixth sense, Doom can just tell. He has a lot of money and power, a certain ambitious air about him that tells her he'll give her the show she wants. The death parade. Ryuk will be impressed after this. This human is going to make his first human look like Gandhi.

Giggling to herself, Doomsday creeps into the office of Lex Luthor and simply drops her notebook right there on his desk, right where she knows he'll see it. She's been watching him for a few weeks now, she roughly knows his comings and goings in this little part of the world. It's not likely anyone else will come in and get to it first. And if they do? Well. That just might be interesting too.

That done, she then goes off and does her own thing for a little while. She'll know when her notebook has been claimed. And when it's used. And from that point, she'll have 39 days to reveal herself to the new owner of the Death Note.

He'd just returned from a meeting about furthering the company presence in various countries, he approved or denied each for his own reasons mostly tying to how lax their enforcement of scientific ethics were. Progress was never made without some broken eggs, and it was far easier if nobody made any fuss over those eggs.

Immediately he noticed the notebook on his desk, he knew he didn't put it there, and it looked too out of place to be put there by any of his employees. Especially with a title like death note on it. This was certainly a sloppy attempt at delivering contact poison to him in order to kill him.

He retrieved a thick pair of gloves and put them on before touching the note and examining it. The text inside was certainly fascinating, if true. Considering the world he lived in where aliens and magic walked amongst man, he wasn't going to take any chances by letting anybody else take hold of it. He let the security team know to review the footage of his office before he went off to his lab to further examine the death note.

Upon review he found nothing off with the notebook, no poison or drugs, no clue as to where it came from. Stranger yet the security team came back with the story that the notebook had just suddenly appeared. This made the likelihood that this was real skyrocket in his opinion. He still hadn't touched the notebook.

He'd test it. He wrote down the name of a competitor he had in the market space, one he had a meeting with that very week, and wrote down that during the meeting they would have a sudden, fatal, brain aneurysm. As he did so, he still did not touch the notebook, as he was wearing lab gloves.

During the meeting he couldn't help but pay extra attention to his rival, did the man have a ticking clock over his head? Only time would tell. And tell it did when they suddenly grasped their head and collapsed dead. On the inside, Lex smiled.

Finally back at his lab alone afterwards, he picked up the notebook without thought to put on any gloves beforehand, finally becoming its official owner. He flipped it open to the first writable page and considered his next steps.

I am still thinking about an ask I saw on one of these “I’m not a Zionist or anti-Zionist blogs,” it said something like “pali activists are so annoying they get mad if you don’t live, breathe, eat Palestine.” You selfish piece of shits. Just admit you don’t care. At least then you wouldn’t be trying to make yourself out to be the real victims of this situation. But if we said this about the death of Israelis you’d feel differently wouldn’t you? Why is that?
