“The presence of Hera on stage is perhaps the most important piece of information concerning this play as far as the presentation of gods on stage is concerned. This happens because Hera, although often playing a part in various myths, is never found on stage in tragedies. For example, in the story of Heracles the intervention of Hera is crucial but at least in Euripides this happens through her agents, Lyssa and Iris. Io in Prometheus is also a victim of Hera but again the goddess does not descend to destroy the mortal herself. In both cases she retains a royal status that allows and perhaps necessitates a more distant approach. Could this reflect some kind of hesitation on the part of poets to bring Hera on stage because of the status she has to retain? Easterling, who sees no hesitation to present gods on stage in Greek drama, notes that there is prohibition as far as Zeus is concerned9. Zeus is never present on stage. The testimony of Pollux, IV, 130 for his presence in the lost Psychostasia of Aeschylus is not convincing, at least not for the original performance10. This would have been the case for Hera as well had it not been for fr. 168 in a lost play of Aeschylus where Hera is present transformed11.”

Adramelech Finland Band photos and their 1996 LP "Psychostasia" Lots of catchy melody in the riffs on this album, probably some of the best riff writing in the overall genre if I had to be honest. There are a lot of favorites of mine that come from this one. Their 1995 "The Fall" EP, and the 1992 "Spring of Recovery" EP are both excellent precursors to this great piece.

20 Questions for Writers
Thanks so much for the tag, @elismor and @valkeakuulas !
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 24
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 218,792
3. What fandoms do you write for? At the moment, I seem to be writing exclusively for the animated Star Wars shows.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Suns Tempered by Devotion
Psychostasia
Someone Like You
The Path That Brings Us Home
Relief Support
Unsurprisingly, my Codywan fic tops the list. Number 2–4 are some of my favourite works, so that's nice. Number 5 is ... unexpected, haha! I can't help but notice that none of my cloneshipping fics made the list.
5. Do you respond to comments? Yes. I am personally far more inclined to comment on a fic if I notice that the author replies to their comments, so of course I will take care to reply to the comments I receive!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I wrote The Maker Makes No Mistakes back in 2013, in which the angsty ending more or less equals the entire plot. In more recent years, I wrote Suns Tempered by Devotion, where the angsty ending is taken directly from canon – something I did not expect to shock my readers, as I had not yet learnt that canon non-compliance is the norm in Star Wars fanfiction, haha!
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Almost all of my works feature, at the very least, a pinch of angst or wistfulness towards the end, but I think Figures of Speech actually builds up to an ending that's just plain happy.
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not so far!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Absolutely. It's one of my very favourite things to write. I generally aim to write smut that is realistic, that keeps the characters unique, and that subverts the occasional trope.
10. Do you write crossovers? Nope.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Nope.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Also nope.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? Uhhh, good question. I tend to stay in fandoms for a long time, but there's no ship in particular that I can think of that has always remained my favourite.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I have always finished every WIP that I've truly cared about.
16. What are your writing strengths? I get it done, even when I have to edit a work a billion times. I am nothing if not perseverant. And meticulous. Hence all the editing.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Most of the time, it takes a tremendous effort for me to put words together. A major reason is that English is only my second language, but my brain also seems to simply work poorly in some ways. Another reason why I need to edit my fics a lot is because I keep changing my idea of the characters, which can also be very frustrating.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I enjoy it when foreign words are sprinkled in for flavour, but full incomprehensible sentences that I need to understand in order to follow the story are just annoying. I could see it work if the difficulty is somehow the point (for example if the main character is learning the language and we get to experience the struggle alongside them), but only if the translations are easily accessible right next to the lines.
19. First fandom you wrote for? I've dabbled in this kind of thing since I was a child, but The Hobbit was the first fandom I published a fic for.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? I think The Path That Brings Us Home is my best work, but Someone Like You is my favourite. I poured a lot into that one, and it's by far the longest fic I've ever written.
No-pressure tags: @trudemaethien and @silverxsakura

“Gods are less visible than we assume: men cannot readily identify them, because they operate in disguise or unseen. And Zeus is different again: not once in the poem does he walk the human earth. He never travels anywhere, except to Mt Ida in Iliad 14. His major interventions are to weigh a person’s doom in the scales – this is psychostasia, ‘soul-weighing’. By some unexplained process this is simultaneously the will of Zeus, and failure at the scales precipitates the doom of the unfortunate Sarpedon or Hector. I do not believe that this is something separate, determined by an impersonal force which constrains Zeus, ‘fate’ – Greeks had no such concept in those days. Rather, his judgment, however human and reluctant in its presentation, is always a matter of weighing and of determining the right time. Achilles is in no doubt that mortals should look to Zeus for the source of their fortunes and happiness. There are two pithoi (massive storage jars) on Zeus’s threshold which colourfully embody the world of possible evils and possible successes. He draws from these jars and gives man one of two things – a mixture, or all bad. Such, says Achilles, is human life, that we suffer on the earth and that they up there live without care. This is a window on the harshness of life as it appears to us at blacker times and in blacker moods, and there is a strong feeling of revelation in these lines as the Iliad takes stock of itself and raises the question of closure. Like many portraits of how the gods work and what they do, this is not part of a systematic theology – we are offered a piece in a possible jigsaw, a snapshot from the world as it seems  at some moments. We do not conclude from such passages that ‘the Greeks believed’ that your destiny was assigned to you at birth by Zeus, king of the gods. It is simply one way of viewing it.
Poets, particularly in the Archaic period, are fond of gloomy presentations of the gulf between man and gods, something which has led some scholars to talk of an ‘archaic world view’. Homer would  in fact have been entirely comfortable with these postures. Achilles’ pots are the basis of Mimnermos’ comments (c. 630 BC): . . . there is no  man to whom Zeus does not give many ills. Mimnermos, fr. 2.15f. West This clear sense that Zeus’s influence over events is pervasive and thoroughgoing is underlined a generation later by Alcaeus in a papyrus scrap (fr. 39 Lobel-Page), where he appears to be saying that it is not possible for mortal men to escape what is determined and that it was a wise man who said that ‘contrary to the fate laid down by Zeus [the moira of Zeus] not even a hair’ could be moved. A special word for Zeus is telos – end, target, completion, fulfilment. This is already embedded in Homer, Iliad 1.5, where Zeus’s plan was accomplished (eteleieto). Solon (c. 600 BC) complains that men do not think long enough about acts of violence ‘but Zeus oversees the telos of everything’ (fr. 13.17 West). And Semonides of Amorgos (c. 650 BC), rarely a cheerful writer, hammers home the message: Boy, it is Zeus the deep-thundering who holds the telos of all things that exist and disposes them as he will. Men do not have mind, but day by day they live the lives cattle do, knowing nothing of how the god will bring each thing to fulfilment [ekteleutesei]. Semonides of Amorgos, fr. 1.1–5 West Zeus of line 1 has become a rather vaguer ‘the god’ in line 5. It is worth remembering when you read Greek literature that Zeus is not always named: he is ‘the god’ par excellence.”
