I’m very sorry for not having posted anything in such a long time, I’ve been feeling off for various reasons most of which I don’t want to elaborate on, which jammed me up a bit creatively. I have since reconsidered and worked through a few if not all of them and am feeling positive things are gonna pave up sooner or later.

One think I would like to talk about though is that I’ve been rethinking my creative processes and the way I structure my work. I put a lot of pressure on myself for creating pieces that seem perfect to me and to present them in a way that seems polished and representative to my work as a whole. I don’t always succeed in doing that but generally that’s the plan. Since the opening of my shop draws ever closer and I’ve been trying to open it up with a very diverse selection of pieces I’ve been setting myself too many restrictions that limit my creative process too much. It’s just not the way I like to work. I like to jump between ideas and associations and very often media themselves, choosing fairly freely between the one that I feel works best for what I have in mind and for what I want to represent. Which, already, makes me think of in which directions I could evolve with my brand, without even having started out, as I know I’ll be wanting to make things that cover a broad spectrum. For instance last week I spend hours on end working on wrapping paper covered in paramecia, as I find them very pretty and fascinating. So when I realised how important this freedom is for my creative endeavors I instantly dropped a good deal of my restrictions and decided to drop a good deal of the things that held me down and just open up the shop with the minimum of what I have planned out. Which is still (hopefully) a good variety from which I can then build up as I go.

But now to the actual piece:

I’ve been in contact with a casting company as I wanted to have a few objects that have the general artistic quality I want but are still fairly easy to replicate, thus resulting in a lower price than my originals. But as the company wasn’t too optimistic about casting with prosculpt, I made a test piece to see how it would work out, what it would look like, how much I would still need to work at and all that jazz. It needed to be a fairly simple design that I wouldn’t mind being botched up in case things went REALLY wrong, but that I also wouldn’t mind wearing in case it did work out the way I hoped it would.

And I’m really really happy about the end result. It was a lot more of post-work than I had anticipated, but that’s also partly due to the form and in parts can be avoided in future pieces. It was also really cool to see that they actually made a 2-part mold which I had not anticipated and which opens up a lot of additional possibilities.

I do not really plan to mass-produce the donuts but if you guys really really like it, drop me a comment and I might reconsider ;)
