Doily 10 | Pattern | Yarn
Finally blocked this guy! I had put it off for a very long time because I honestly did not like him. I didn't like how the center looked, I didn't like how the flowers weren't laying flat, I didn't like the cast off, and I was fully convinced there was no way any imperfections were going to block out in a way that satisfied me.
Thankfully I was wrong. At least while he's pinned out I think he's quite pretty. I still have a couple nitpicks about him but I no longer actively hate him. I won't really know for sure if I'd consider him a "successful" project until I know he doesn't immediately scrunch up once unpinned (and I can take another look at the one billion ends I had to weave in to make sure they're secure post blocking) but I no longer wish to forget he exists.
Despite the fact that I have him labeled as a Doily, fully blocked his final width is about 4 feet at the widest point.

Blog Post: Filet Crochet - Tall Ship
It's April 2022 and I've just added "Wellerman" to my playlists. Like most trends, I've discovered it late, but that doesn't stop my fervor in finding as many shanty bands as I can get my hands on. I re-watch "Master & Commander" and "Pirates of the Caribbean", I start and finish OFMD in a weekend, I buy the fancy vinyl of The Longest Johns' most recent album, I make up stanzas for Drunken Sailor, and I start reblogging ship after ship after ship - ships at sea, ships approaching pirate islands, ships in the mist and at night and with sails gloriously unfurled.
I tour a tall ship for my birthday, then spend the afternoon at an Irish pub listening to familiar songs that aren't shanties but come from similar traditional roots.
At some point, I admit... yep, I'm drawn to the aesthetic of tall sailing ships. And I celebrate it.
I celebrate anything that brings joy. So this time last year (Sep 18 if you are curious), my daydreams about ships chasing the horizon led me to pick up my crochet hook, start a row of chains and some double crochets, and make one of those vague, ominous posts: a simple: it begins.
And finally, I can say, it ends.
Tumblr media
Reel version of the progress pictures available here. (Warning: For Photo movement sensitivity, I use zoom transitions)
This was my first big filet crochet project, and in full transparency, I learned the technique just so I could make this pattern. I first picked a few free patterns that were symmetrical between rows, as one of the challenges I had was reading left-to-right, then right-to-left in sequence based on whether I was on the right side of wrong side as the pattern progressed. My first non-symmetrical pattern was HandmadebyRaine's dolphin table runner. Fairly soon after I decided I was ready. I was probably less ready and more eager... but what's a better way learning a new technique than working on something you know you're going to be really passionate about?
Filet Crochet is a technique in which the pattern creates a mesh with filled in and open blocks, where the filled in spaces (or the inverse) makes an image. The only stitches you need to start learning is the chain and the double crochet, so in some ways it is quite beginner friendly. I'd recommend starting with a symmetrical pattern like I did until you are used to switching the reading direction with the rows.
Another challenge I had along the way: I lost the crochet hook I was using about halfway up. I think I actually was using a 2.00mm originally, but the challenge with these small hooks is that you can't really buy them on an individual basis - at least from what I've seen. This is the reason I have 3-4 .5mm's which I never use, but the 1.75mm and 2.00mm that I use all the time have a habit of walking away.
From there, the main challenge was keeping motivated, especially after that lull in the middle of the project. At the beginning and the end, the stitches were flying off the hook.
Tumblr media
Pattern: Sailing Ship Doily by Crafty Sasha Hook size: 1.75mm Crochet Thread: Aunt Lydia's Size 10 GaviiCreates - 2023
So my year long passion project finally comes to end. I haven't yet picked a space in my home for this project to live, so it's not yet on display. It is such a statement piece, I'd like to make it somewhere visitors may see it. I'm proud!
As far as filet crochet - I really liked the technique! It's another way for me to use my thread, another style for doilies or table runners. I definitely think it will be added to my rotation. What do we think for next? A chicken?

2023 crochet round up!
i mentioned making a post like this a few days ago, and true to my nature, i waited until the last minute to get pictures
so here we are, in no particular order, various projects i finished in 2023
Tumblr media
1.) this was technically crocheted last year (i think) but this year i finally assembled and lined it, making it finished! its not quite the size to be a purse, but its perfect for carrying my phone and keys while dog walking
i followed this pattern, and im really happy with the results!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2.) some little zipper bags. like the bag above, the purple one was crocheted last year, but i finally added the lining and zipper this year (i also used the same pattern as the above bag to make the purple one)
the grey one doesnt have a lining and zipper yet, but since the crochet is finished, it still makes the list
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3.) little squares from this pattern, to have something to clip my stitch markers to, very helpful for travel
4.) a few of the chokers i made during the summer, there are a bunch more, but you get the idea, a couple were made based on this pattern
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4.) this one was hard to get a good shot of, but it's a cat blanket i made for my sister's cats
the pattern was a free one i got from michael's in store, which doesnt seem to be on their site? however its a pretty simple pattern, im pretty sure you could find something nearly identical by searching "star baby blanket" or something like that
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5.) for ages now i've been meaning to make something to keep my tablet pens in, because having them loose in my bag is begging for disaster
i actually had to make this little case twice, the first one was too long and the proportions looked weird, so it isnt pictured here
i hand finished all the seams for the lining, there was no practical need to do this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6.) pouch to carry headphones i got for my birthday
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
7.) pouch to carry Cool Rocks
the bottom of the bag comes from these doily patterns, and the ends of the ties are from this pattern
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8.) a mini dice bag, made to hold a couple sets of mini dice my sister made for me!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
9.) several cord ties made from this pattern, the flower was my own addition (only two ties are pictured because i didnt feel like tracking down the third)
10.) a flower vine to decorate my desk, no actually on my desk because i still need to sort out how i want to attach it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
11.) speaking of flowers, ive probably made dozens of these little guys, they're very quick to make, and a good way to give my hands something to do while watching something
12.) little succulents from this pattern
Tumblr media Tumblr media
13.) oops! another pouch to hold even more Cool Rocks
Tumblr media
14.) while technically i still need to to line these bags, i still wanted to include them, i made them from this pattern, and im very excited for when theyre actually finished so i can use them
next we're getting into some shawls i made, and unfortunately i just dont have a good set up for getting pics of them
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
15.) this one was made by doing a little variation from this pattern
16.) this was made from the all shawl pattern by doris chan, its a really great pattern for beginner's, the first shawl i made was from that pattern!
17.) this was made from a variation on the same pattern i used for the cat blanket, i made a couple others from the same sort of pattern late last year, but i decided i needed one in black in october, because it looks just a bit like bat wings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
18.) i made a cowl from this pattern, and i really love the texture of it! i also made one for my mom in a different color, which is not pictured here because i took these picture last minute
other things not pictured include: a dice bag for my sister, flowers for my mom, and a sack for the cats to curl up in (since they love making nests out of my projects)

For the crafting asks: 3, 10 for crochet, and 12, please! :)
Eeeeee! I do so like talking about my crafting adventures. XD
3. when did you begin crafting? - I learnt to knit when I was about six or seven, and for the longest time I would be making extra stitches. It looked like the shape of a fibre optic lamp. 😂😂😂 But I started consciously wanting to make things from about the age of 12/13 (whenever it was Philosopher’s Stone came out in the cinema) - I wanted a Slytherin scarf (🫣🙄😅😂) so I started to make one… Except I knitted very slowly, and I didn't know how to swap colours and in the end Mam finished it for me. At the time, my school colours were bottle green and grey, so my aunt (Mam’s sister) asked why I was knitting a school scarf. 🙈😅
Crochet came waaaaaaaaaay later. My eldest was about six months old, and both my husband’s SiL and one of my not so crafty friends had shown me (separately) their crochet work. That lit a fire in me - if they can do it, I totally can. (Please remember, I am not always a nice person. 😬😂) My crochet-aversary was a few weeks ago, I think. I used to follow it avidly on Facebook but since not updating there as often my memory of starting things is not great. 🙈😂😂
10. worst thing about crochet is? - Toss up between sore wrists and, “Oooh, whatcha knitting?” Everything else is just maths. Oh! And when I enter amigurumi items into crochet competitions, for the people taking the entries to say, “It doesn't look like crochet. Are you sure it's crochet?” Pretty damn sure, you old bat. Just because it isn't a doily doesn't mean it isn't crochet.
12. how long did your longest project take? - That I've finished? Probs Smaug (I'll find pictures in a mo), but I wasn't working on him constantly. That I haven't finished? Uh, the dragon I'm making my eldest. I started that when she was my *only* kid. I mean, what's mostly stopping me now is not remembering where I put the bloody project bag - I'm 99.99% sure it's in the cupboard under the stairs, but there’s a lot of stuff in there atm so I can't go rummaging.

Hello! I go by Kio, and my life is consumed by crafts. I started this account as a way to achieve two things:
Have a place to upload/archive all of the various paper media I inherited from my two (deceased) great-grandmothers.
Have a place to upload my own projects.
Objective #1 is where the name of this blog took inspiration. I chose “mausoleum” intentionally, because it contains my family’s craft clutter. The two women were on different sides of my family, so the lineage only connects with me. Thus, all three of our craft neuroses packaged into a blog. The Craft Mausoleum.
I actually had no idea one of them was not only interested in crafts, but really good at them, until 20 years after she died. Her own daughter (my grandma) was even surprised. Who knew that someone whose living memory was being a wicked old woman could crochet doilies like that…Preserving that secret (?) of hers is 65% of my drive to do this. Wickedness be damned, that woman had skill.
Objective #2 is just as important to me, however. I made my first Tumblr over 10 years ago, but forsook the site to focus on using more “relevant” social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter). This was the right move, but god DAMN they are not correct for posting these things.
There isn’t a real place online for sewing, and I am so tired of knitting. Instead of trying to cram a square block in a circle hole, I made this account. I don’t need engagement or praise. I just really want to fully post what I’m working on SOMEWHERE. For me.
I made two posts separately for examples of recent knitting and sewing.
Utilizing, desecrating John 2:17 “The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of ARTS & CRAFTS lives forever.”

DIY Frosted Glass Doily Mirror
Tumblr media
Project by Paper&Stitch:
If you like the look of etched mirrors, but don’t have the budget for one  right now, or you just want to create something custom for your home, try this mirror DIY! With just a few supplies, you can create an etched mirror / frosted mirror in no time. Honestly, this project only has four materials (including the mirror)!
Tumblr media
Materials Needed for Frosted Glass Mirror
round mirror (framed or unframed)
paper doily
frosted glass mirror spray
double-sided tape
Tumblr media
How to Make a Frosted Glass Mirror
1. Start my cleaning the mirror with soap and water to remove any debris or dirt, and let dry.
2. Choose a paper doily that works for the size mirror you have. My doily is about a third of the size of mirror. On the backside of the doily, place double sided tape all over.
You will want to overload it with tape so that you can stop the spray from going into areas you don’t want it to be. But you also want to be sure not to put tape over any areas that are suppose to be “open” in the doily. Then turn over and secure to the mirror anywhere you wish.
Remember: The area you put the doily, will be the only spot in the mirror you will actually be able to see a reflection when we are done.
3. Place mirror down on flat surface. Shake frosted glass spray according to directions and then spray 7-12 inches away from the mirror in even, sweeping strokes.
Thin layers are the best way to go about this to avoid drips and other inaccuracies. Wait for each coat to dry (about 15-10 minutes) before applying the next coat. My mirror took four coats.
4. After the last layer is completely dry, gently remove the paper doily and double-sided tape from mirror. Clean with damp cloth and you are ready to hang.

No one asked, I’m doing this to hold myself accountable for the amount of wips I have:
PURSE (mini backpack) PROJECTS
- Socks for E: first pair of toe-up socks knitted from super wash wool and merino. I’m up to the gusset increases on the first sock. Currently on pause since I need to check the size since I absolutely do not want to frog merino wool.
- Ranger Socks: cuff down cable socks for myself, knitted from unknown wool from my stash. I have two and a half repeats on one sock.
- Halloween MKAL Mitts: Clue 1 right mitt is finished, clue 1 left mitt is casted on. Knitted from mystery yarn found in my stash, it’s soft and I think I got it from Hobby Lobby before I realized how Not Great they were.
- The Dark Tam: Pattern testing a tam. Had to restart and use different yarn, currently being knitted with Shetland wool. About 70% done.
- Mad Scientist shawl: Virus shawl made with Hobbi’s Halloween themed yarn in the color way Mar Scientist. I’m done with my green stripes and I’m part of the way through magenta with dark purple being right after. Slowly turning into a Tote project.
GONNA NEED A TOTE PROJECTS
- Enchanted Doily: Impulse doily project holy shit I did not look at the finished size when I started it. Currently have five rows left on part 3 of 7. Crocheted with Aunt Lydia’s size 10 thread.
- African Flower Chicken: Stash buster to get rid of the ugly off white yarn I collected. Nearly finished with all my pentagons, need to make the hexagons and squares.
STAYS IN THE BASKET:
- Gay Blanket: A hexagon blanket I’m slowly making out of the Twister pride yarn. I’m able to get about four hexagons from two balls of pride yarn so it’s going slow.
BACK BURNER:
- Moth Eaten: Went back to the drawing board. A mini collection of distressed lace knitting patterns.
- Possum Sweater: Back to the drawing board, possum themed sweater using colorwork. Also planned was a raccoon themed sweater to match.
- Sorceress Shawl: Too much counting for a casual project and the herringbone stitch hurts my hand. Will likely be moved to frogging since it’s not going anywhere and isn’t fun.
🐸🐸🐸🐸
- Claire Garland Lamb: it’s such a cute pattern but I’m not liking the yarn I picked for it. I’m going to frog what I’ve done and find better yarn in the future

Doilies / Trim and other Lace
So let’s talk a bit about lace knitting.
Bear in mind that I’m mostly talking about knitting, since I find crochet lace to be rough on my wrists.  On average, you can get beginner tools (number 10 crochet thread, some US 1 dpns) for about 15$ US, but there’s obviously a million options. Here’s someone using some achingly fine silk, and another person literally using sewing thread.
There’s hundreds of books of lace patterns / trim, and multiple free resources out there on the internet.  One example might be Knitting-and.com which has tons of various historical lace patterns.
You can also find a few museums with original magazines, such as this one from the 1930s.
So, let’s go through some of the things you might care about -
Knitting your own lace trim is affordable, infinitely customizable, and also slow.  A blouse might need a minimum of a yard of trim for say the cuffs and neckline, but that might take a beginner a few hours.  The longer you work, the faster you get.
A doily can, on larger needles, be a scarf or a parasol, or even a tablecloth could be turned into a blanket.  At the original size, doilies can be little potato chip like projects that you can carry around that slowly turn into lumpy twisted snoods of fabric.  A fast knitter can often do a six inch doily in a couple of days, but that varies depending on complexity, knitting speed, etc.  Stretching out a doily after you wash it can involve wires / tons of pins / a lot of work.
Lace curtains can be enjoyable for small windows, and actually get easier since you’re usually repeating the same thing for long periods of time.
Things that you’ll often hear if you’re looking at lace:
Angled decreases - If you look at very old lace patterns, you’ll often find that everything is a knit two together, or some variation on a three stitch decrease.  While you can add in left leaning decreases where appropriate, often you’ll find the pattern looks fine with the original instructions. You can use knit to together through the back, or slip one, knit one, pass the slipped stitch over, and there’s multiple variations between knit three together, slip one, knit two together, psso, or slip two, knit one, psso.  When you get up to huge decreases, you can start to run into things like knit seven together, or knit nine together.  There’s multiple solutions for stitches like this.  You might do slip 5, knit 4, psso, or you might do slip 9, then use a hook / dentist tool to pull the yarn through, or you might do some variant of slip a number of stitches, knit 2 together, psso.
Multiple increases - Let’s say you’re adding 4 stitches in one stitch.  A common solution is to knit one in the old stitch, purl one, knit one, purl one.  Some people suggest for larger increases doing knit one, yarn over, purl one so you’re not pulling the old stitch to be too huge.  If you’re adding multiple yarn overs, you may find the yarn overs look floppy, large, and unpleasant on the next row. Some people knit the yarn overs twisted to pull them tighter, and other people  suggest reducing the amount of yarn overs you do.  So, let’s say the pattern has five yarn overs.  It’s huge in your tension / yarn / whatever. You hate it.  Knit a smaller number of yarn overs, and then knit one, purl one in your yarn overs to make the stitch count you need.
“True” lace - this is lace that has complicated stitches on every row.   This tends to be more “open” and airy, but also tends to be more tricky.  A blank row of just knitting or purling gives you time to check your stitches, check your count, and gives your lace fabric space to settle any tension issues.  It can be more difficult to do that if you’re doing complex stitches every row.  Here’s an example of a “true” lace doily.  Here’s an example of one that has those restful rows of plain knitting that has similar “leaf” motifs, and another one with a more open design.
Estonian lace - this often has interesting wrapped stitches, pulling up stitches from other rows to make star like shapes, or nupps (basically making tiny bobbles,) but you can find these stitch techniques in other knitting.  This will be difficult if you’re not used to doing the stitches, and can be hard if your tension is very tight, since, like cables, you’re twisting yarn around or dealing with a lot of stitches. While this is not Estonian lace, this doily has wrapped stitches in the center of the violets and this one has nupp like stitches.  If you see this kind of texture, you want a strong yarn, and to test the stitches before you commence.  The last thing you want is your yarn to snap every time you hit one of those fancy stitches.
Filet - Filet crochet / knitting is based off of netting where you’d fill or not fill in various squares in a grid.  Here’s an assortment of filet patterns.  Filet tends to be a little tedious if you have tension issues since having a “true” square helps a lot with making your grid look correct.
Twisted stitches - While  yarn overs and angled decreases will obviously twist stitches, you can also get right twist / left twist, which are basically tiny cables.  These also pop up in 1940′s style cable knitting for yarn efficient texture.  In doilies, you can see this pop up for grid shapes, starting the angles of the edge of something, or for texture like wheat.  These can be fiddly to do, but are doable without a cable needle.  On a slippery yarn, tight tension, hard to use needles, you might find it infuriating.
A final common thing to pop up is hex mesh -  Any time you see a decrease, two yarn overs, and then a decrease, you’re probably looking at a variation on hex mesh.  This can get super repetitive, and there’s actually variations among various designers as to if they have the decreases angle in to the yarn overs, or out, if they just use the same decrease, etc.  Here’s  a very standard doily that uses hex mesh.  Some people loathe hex mesh since it can be tedious and easy to lose your place.  If they have tension issues with the double yarn overs, it becomes a sea of repetitive stuff to be careful doing.  Other people find it super relaxing to just fill in hex mesh until you get to the edges of the pattern (this also means that mistakes in charts love to lurk in the edges of hex mesh, since people often don’t count until they get to the pattern.)

Doily 10 | Pattern | Yarn Shawl 14 | Pattern | Yarn
I'm about 100 stitches from starting my bind off for Doily 10! It's going to be raining all week so I can't block it regardless but I'm excited to finish it anyway.
Speaking of things I'm excited for. I started my Evenstar shawl. I wanted to finish Doily 10 and Shawl 13 before I started but injury stopped that from happening. Yesterday was an important day to me so I wanted to start Shawl 14 on it even if I wasn't able to put my whole focus into it yet.

National Crochet Month - Days 12-18
12. Favorite Yarn - I have a few because of the different types of projects I do. In the world of doilies, my favorite crochet thread is called Alize Miss Batik, which can be a little hard to come by. It's a size 10 mercerized cotton and each colorway has long strand variegation to create such beautiful final products. In the world of what I purchase from my LYS - my heart sings Malabrigo. While Arroyo/DK is my preferred weight here, I've worked more with their ult sock and sock weight. As far as value yarns, I'm partial to Lion Brand's options. I have a bit of a collection of Mandala cakes. Though Caron Simply Soft is where I started. In the world of cotton - I like hobbii's friends cotton.
13. Something [color]
I asked my fandom to send me a color for this, and then I crocheted a granny square in order of each color received until I couldn't find a color in stash close enough. It was lilac that did me in. So I'd be happy to share the randomness of with you for this part of the challenge. Random Rainbow:
Tumblr media
14. 3 Crocheters I love My mom, obviously, and my friends here. But I imagine this question is to share creators and entertainers that inspire us on line. For that, here are a few I follow:
Toni from TLYarnCrafts Juan - JuantheYarnAddict For patterns - especially those do mandalas and might want to give some thread crochet a try, I recommend grace fearon and draiguna and handmadebyraine.
15. Blanket
The blanket you're about to see is not one I made, but it's one that I've always known. I've shared this story before on my instagram, and it felt right to share here for this part of the challenge. As a child, I loved all the bright colors and I liked playing with the fringe. I didn't find out until I was older that it was made by the grandmother I'd never known. Years before me, my mom taught her mom how to crochet as an outlet for when she was sick. She had just turned the corner of fringe before passing away, and mom couldn't bring herself to finish it.
Tumblr media
It means so much to me that this craft can create a bond. Even reach across generations.
16. Crocheting in Public Yes, it depends though. I don't always carry around a project bag that's portable, as I also prefer to be at home more often than not. One of my favorite places/times to crochet is when I am on vacation, so I've been known to bring some projects down to the beach front.
17. Something for Me
At the moment, the big crochet blanket is the thing that's most for me. It was a huge splurge for nice yarns, has been an absolute joy to work with as hand-dyed merino, and the end piece isn't going to mean much to anyone besides myself and my husband. I think people who also play ffxiv might appreciate the idea, but we've also added yarns to represent our Warrior of Light, so the final product is going to be subtle, special to us, and probably look like it doesn't go together at all to everyone else. It's making me happy though and that's what matters. Though, I am also terrified of it getting ruined, so it might end up carefully bagged and stored until I want to use it. #blanket of the seventh dawn 18. Crochet Buddy Most of my crochet friends are online, which is great because it's such a great way to bond over timezones. I love seeing progress, being a part of inspiring each other - sometimes not always with crochet, and just chatting life and projects. On the other hand it means no yarn-y friends to take to the LYS or craft store with me. I have to be my own reality check (admittedly though, I'm often my own enabler). Anyway - you know who you are :D

okay I counted again, I currently have 40 base pieces ready for finishing out of the 80 I will need for magnets/pins/keychains/pendants. I also have 5/10 doilies and 10/10 trinket box bases, 2/20 bookmarks but the paper to quickly make a bunch more, 13/36 bunnies. I haven't started on socks but it's about an hour and a half per pair for about 40 pairs including christmas presents, and it's all socks except for 3 small no-sock ppl and matt and arin's stockings. then there's 20 identical bezels and maybe 20 identical shakers for kirb2k (and prints and stickers and doodles which are easy), plus I'm through 310 of 1000 drawings to tidy up for the thousand kirbs print. I may do cross stitch kits for kirb2k too, which is about sticker level of effort after the initial patterning/test piece(s). maybe 1 painting which is more of a fuckabouts than a Srs Project.
I committed to the craft fair mid july, which is about 2 months ago, plus some time for supplies to start arriving. I also lost big chunks of time to things like the camping trip and my birthday and most prominently unpacking and immediately getting sick after, so if we're at a cumulative like. 30% or something like that, that's really not bad, especially since I still have 60% of the total time remaining and fewer disruptions likely to come. and I've also made 1 1/2 blankets in that time. so it'll be fine.
I haven't been posting pictures of crafts here since I have a dedicated craft blog now, but the craft blog is ~aesthetique~ and this one is kinda just for record keeping so I might post a big batch of shit later.

March 2023 Knitting Roundup
Stashbusting: This month I didn't have a lot of progress on my destashing and finishing some old WIPS.
I haven’t finished any projects quite yet, but I am getting closer on the campfire cozy shawl I started. I have put it down for a bit because it’s gotten a bit big to pack around but I do see a dent in my yarn use.
My lace wedding knit is going well, I have already made some changes to my pattern but I have yet to use the first 100 grams. I probably made a slight mistake when I did a second round of increases immediately after finishing the doily pattern but I think it will look alright in the end.
I did end up purchasing four new hanks of yarn for my finances’ Christmas gift this year. It will be another Star Trek sweater and will use the four new ones I purchased and three from my stash. I’ll have a more detailed post on it later this year when I start it.
Campfire cozy update: I did a few more rows the other weekend to take a break from the lace project. I have made some decent progress on it and could bind it off now but I wanted to use all of the yarn to do it. It’s a good mindless knit right now because I’m in a long stretch of garter.
Tentative finishing goal is May 2023.
Wedding knit update: I am making good progress on it. Currently, I’ve got a radius of about 10 inches completed so only 28 more inches to go!
I set a goal to knit about 20 rows a week but it’s not a time sensitive goal at the moment. I am working on my filler lace section and then have a set up row and another heart pattern. It is going well, I overestimated how large my stitches would be so I have been doing some on the fly changes to the pattern and keeping notes.
My tentative goal for finishing is December 2023. I’ve never knit lace this fine before and honestly have no idea if that’s a realistic goal at the moment.
Other crafting goals: I finally decided to take the plunge and learn bookbinding and crepe paper flowers. I’ve wanted to learn bookbinding since middle school when I read “Inkheart” so I’m a little excited to finally get into it. I am going to start with rebinding old paperbacks or damaged books.
For crepe paper flowers I’m going to get a kit from Lia Griffith. This one is more of a side quest type hobby for me. It’s not currently high on the list of to learn.

AAAAAAAAND for the first time in a long time, here are some old pic´s from when i did Quoll Alone where is skittles, found them in my Newgrounds dump so thought i would share them
the first was a scene that didn´t make it because this one took FOREVER TO RENDER and i think i did loose sleep that day and i got very very unhappy whice might have led to a downward sprial of pain and is kinda why i might have rushed the animation.
YEAH i don´t wanna have Jurassica End up like that for me and thus kinda why im planning this the way iam right now,
tho haveing written all this down i do feel like i might get the Blockout´s done sooner BUUUUUUT! i don´t wanna do anything stupid here, like i would LOVE to get to make more 10 to 15 min long projects but i feel like Where is skittles has given bit of a fear for it but i´d love to get over it and i hope the plans for jurassica will make everything easier, hopefully the fact this isn´t made in sony vegas helps too.
but enough about fears and how i almsot didn´t wanna make videos(THankfully i did return to the animation table) wanna give some context as much like with doodle toon´s Rabbit for dinner, Where is skittles was gonna have a title card like that fellowed by Kitube jumping into the Water where some piranhas waiting and he would jump out of the water in fear. instead we got that... odd thing with Scrat IDK... BUT HEY ATLEAST I GAVE THAT LEOPARD SKIN BIKIN DOILY WEARS "Wink Wink"
Tumblr media
the 2nd one tho is from the Bit where Doily and Nat looks down and see Reggie has climb´d up to get them.
the Reason it´s all Green screen is because back in the Day(before How to keep a Dragon) i used to make the BG in sony vegas and animated the characters in blender and combind the shots via chroma key,
i gotta be real kinda happy i can now do things in full CGI, not just because it´s Easier but also because and this is NOT something im makeing up but, it didn´t Work out as planned, like There is one Episode(or Shortflim IDK what do wanna call fishing Foxy here) that is actually because the Software wen BLEH! and the Quicktime files all went Red and unsueable... same happenede to a Future Wildlife project too,
Tumblr media
SOOOO yeah feel free to leave any comments here, i´d love to Read them for these pics here

DIY Doily Side Table
Tumblr media
Project by Derek & Lauren:
a few years ago we were delighted to discover that most hardware and lumber stores carry a selection of tapered wooden table legs.  they come in a wide variety of heights, from 4” to 28”, which means you can easily make all sorts of tables (from bedside to dining room) out of just about anything. by using a paper doily as a stencil we were able to pretty up an 18” round piece of wood with some spray paint, to make a simple and unique side table.
here’s what you’ll need:
18″ pre-cut round plywood or mdf, available at lumber and hardware stores
two colors of spray paint
10″ paper doily
blue painter’s tape (or low tack spray adhesive)
4 tapered wood legs with hardware
screwdriver
Tumblr media
1. paint your table top and legs with latex paint or spray paint and let dry. 2. place the paper doily in the middle of the table top and secure with a few rolls of painter’s tape. for a crisper edge, temporarily stick it to the tabletop with low tack spray adhesive 3. tape off the sides of the tabletop (optional) and apply an even coat of spray paint directly over the doily, trying not to get any paint underneath  its edges. 4. once the paint is dry, carefully remove the doily and blue tape. 5. attach the legs to the underside of your table 2″ in from the sides, using the provided hardware and screws.
