Did Martin try to kill Malcolm? An ongoing discussion
While Martin initially denied trying to (or wanting to) kill Malcolm before he was arrested, he later admitted to it in 1x14. Assuming he wasn’t lying just to goad Malcolm into stabbing him so he could have blackmail material on Malcolm and Jessica (and that Watkins wasn’t lying either), he probably didn’t want Malcolm to find out that little fact so he could ensure Malcolm would keep coming back to him. Even if Martin isn’t lying, you can see his discomfort and him debating with himself whether to admit to it or not in 1x14 - once he admits it, Malcolm and Jessica are a lot less likely to visit him again (I mean, he literally had a nightmare about Malcolm never visiting him again), and if he succeeds in goading Malcolm into stabbing him, he could die. But if he survives (and he did), he has something to hold over Malcolm for the rest of his life. I also think, going by Malcolm’s expression in the last gif, that he honestly never expected Martin to admit “the truth” in this case.

Malcolm’s hand staying steady as he stabs his father just shows a superior level of character depth and development and it’s only the first season

I don’t know what either of them are being paid but they both deserve a raise.

“No. Of course not.”
Malcolm’s mind went there so quickly, intuitively..
Remember the other two times Malcolm said “of course not” (in episode 1 and episode 8)?
Tumblr media
Martin: . . . .
Tumblr media
“Right, right. Of course not..”
Did he believe him?

I consulted on three operations this week. Three saved lives.
Malcolm looking his father dead in the eyes and telling him he’s not a good person?
My depression is cured, my skin is clear, my crops are flourishing.

Okay, so every character was amazing this episode, but the moment where JT made a comment about Martin’s victims or something then said “no offends” to Malcolm was beautiful character development right there. I stan. I stan if all
