Yeah Man, Ramen! On a quest to find the best ramen in Brighton? ‘Goemon’ in Preston Street comes up trumps. The ramen menu is varied and has grown considerably in the past couple of years. Just like the three bears, ‘Goemon’ offers a variety of ramen dishes in 3 different sizes. The seaweed salad is excellent, the ubiquitous Gyoza is crush worthy, the pumpkin croquette delicious and the crispy Nori-Shio Chips are a perfect go to snack and a perfect companion to your glass of ice-cold Asahi. The ramen broth is rich - layers of flavour pop through as you slurp the noodles. The menu is fairly extensive, but standouts are the iconic Tonkotsu and the Spicy Miso ramen. ‘Goemon’ also has a variety of toppings you can add to your ramen bowl. Yeah Man, Ramen! ‘Goemon Ramen Bar’ appeared on the lower part of Preston Street in the Autumn of 2014. It is a very unassuming little place, with only a handful of tables and very minimal décor, but don’t let this put you off. ‘Goemon’ is like the authentic little ramen bars in Japan, with an emphasis on good food rather than flashy decorations. The menu, apart from sides and a few specials, consists entirely of ramen. Chicken miso ramen with a side of chicken gyoza is a super popular choice. Double chicken, nom, nom, nom. ‘Goemon’ sell ramune a Japanese soft drink in a glass bottle with a ball in it, which comes in all sorts of crazy flavours. The melon ramune is bright green and tastes nothing like an actual melon, like a lot of Japanese soft drinks in fruit flavours, but it really is good and quenches your thirst. Expect to find the gyoza perfectly fried - tasty and soft in the middle, crispy on the outside.
