This SUCKS. Joann’s is one of the few stores where I can buy good fabric AND the yarns I like. Forget Hobby Lobby. Not giving them my money.
I am sure fellow makers feel my frustration. Shopping online is great, don’t get me wrong. BUT… there are times when there are distinct advantages to being able to hold skeins of yarn in your hands and figure out what colors and textures are going to work together in a garment or blanket or amigurumi. There are advantages to comparing different bolts of linen to decided which weave is going to work best for your project, which weight of broadcloth has the feel you’re aiming for, or if these two colors really work together the way you’re hoping.
A brick and mortar craft shop is pretty much your only option, especially if you’re working with a tight budget. Sure, there are yarn shops out there, with really amazing and, as a friend once put it, “delicious” yarns. But if you’re like me, $25.00 USD for even ONE skein of “delicious” yarn is a bit steep, much less the three to five a project like a shawl could take. The same with strictly fabric shops.
I can’t afford it.

Made this silver and prehnite bracelet, using scrap silver and my new rolling mill. I decided to keep this one for me, which I don’t do nearly often enough! It has my favorite gritty texture, and of course I’m a sucker for anything green. I love how heavy it is, too.

“L” is for Little Blue Penguin with #charsartclass for #birdsindecember2022 I changed the background in Photoshop to remove the glare of the original surface but it removes some of the color saturation so the next few photos are in it’s original form. I used a palette knife to add in the groundwork and the rest is painted with flat matte acrylics on cardstock. Here's the parts and bits and pieces that are making up a wall panel control piece for the space-ship set. Having fun glueing things together like a big puzzle.
I used an old plastic alarm clock and a luggage scale to make part of the wall panel. I also used chocolate box plastic pieces, cords, buttons, and candy boxes.
