If you're hesitating between unraveling or using a quick fix that will leave a mistake in your work, ask yourself these questions: Will it be visible... or will you be the only to know? Will a quick fix bother you forever...? Is the idea of unraveling so demotivating....? Do what feels best to you.
These wise words come from Lovely Lace Knits by Gabrielle Vezina. It is one thing if a garment does not fit, if it chokes you at the neck or binds your arms. Clothing that does not let your body move the way you want it to move is a curse. But if the mistake is a purely decorative one, as is the case with lace knits, you need to ponder Vezina's questions.
Cause if you end up despising the garment and won't wear it, or end up refusing to finish it in frustration, there is no point to all the effort you have already made. Better to figure out what you can live it, and get on with it. I daresay all makers need to decide what they can live with.

My latest work in progress is the ‘Gloria’ shawl designed to honor my grandmother. She was a knitter too, but she mostly concentrated on sewing because it was her business as a ballgown seamstress from the 1960s through the early 1990s. My grandfather renovated their home carport into her Maker’s Room.
She did a lot of home decor crocheting, but rarely knitted because of time and because in New Orleans, the climate doesn’t call for handmade knitwear like mittens, shawls or sweaters.
Gloria has inspired my interest in making; and this is one simple way to honor her. She was elegant; and I hope my shawl is something she would have loved.
The ‘Gloria’ Shawl knitting pattern by Keisha Knits is coming soon.

I love this photo from a 2017 photo shoot.📷🧶 It is representative of every OOTD for me. The Taos shawlette I am wearing is one I originally designed just for myself. I dress with the idea that I can influence how I project myself, and how others respond to me. I am always comfortable in my clothes, but less so in front of a camera. #knittersofinstagram #knittersgonnaknit #craftersofinstagram #crochetersofinstagram #makersofinstagram #makersmovement #knitting #knittedshawls #knittingpatterns #knittinglife #fiberuarychallenge2023 #fiberuarychallenge https://www.instagram.com/p/CooLxpkrETD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Piecework Fall 2023, Or What Have They Done to the Capelet?
This issue has several projects all of which you see here. These include a knitted colorwork hat inspired by a stained glass window designed by Hazel Tindall, a Cherry blossom embroidery done in stumpwork by Jane Nicholas, and a bag in blackwork by Melinda Shebring. And then we have the knitted capelet on the cover by Shirley Paden with an ornate lace and beads design.
Once upon a time, the evening capelet was a small cape. Like a cape, it opened in the front, often tied at the throat and might have a collar or ruff at the neckline. Its charm lay in its grace, the way it could be untied and swept off the shoulders as our heroine came in from the chill and onto the dance floor. It could be made of fabric or fur, or knitted or crocheted.
Then, somebody came up with the silly idea of the knitted capelet as a tube on pulled over the head. Why? Possibly because it was easier to knit certain ornate stitch patterns circularly rather than back and forth. But whatever is gained in the knitting is lost in the wearing. To take off a tube capelet means raising your arms as you would to take off a t-shirt, hardly the most graceful of movements. It also means pulling an ornate, possibly fuzzy knitwear over your elaborate earrings, your delicate up-do, and perhaps your hat if you are really dressed up. Imagine for a moment what happens if an earring catches a strand of yarn as you pull this capelet over your head. Yikes! Doffing a tube capelet it at best awkward and risks chaos. In short, a silly design. Although here the lace pattern is so interesting that it is worth taking and using on something else.
In addition to these projects, there are several historical articles on Portuguese embroidery, on metallic yarns and fabrics, on Louisa May Alcott, and more.
You can find at you local yarn store, bookstore or online here: https://pieceworkmagazine.com/

I DON’T NEED ANY TUTORIAL!
I know that besides my followers there are many knitters and I’m sure many of them at least one time in life thought that, having some knitting experience, it’s not difficult to create a knitting pattern. I must say that it’s not so easy as it seems. Even having 22 years of knitting experience, I continue to buy knitting patterns time to time cause it’s easier to spend money than to spend time. In my life I had many confirmations of this idea. Let’s see why I believe so.
Having created more than 35 original designs I must say that it’s not easy to create a new one. If you still want to try you should:
Choose a model. Maybe it’s not difficult, you can use one seen in a knitting journal. In this case it’ll not be original, but why not.
Choose a knitting patterns. If you already have some ideas about what you want, you have to spend at least a couple of hours to find it in special pattern books. You can knit a model without any pattern, for example in the stockinette or the garter stitch, but I’m sure it’ll look not so interesting as with it.
Measure your knitting tension. For this you should make swatches of ALL the patterns you’re going to use in your project and to count your gauge for each one. Otherwise, you can find yourself in the situation when different patterns will have different gauges and you’ll be unable to use all of them in one model.
Take measurements and make all necessary calculations for your size(s). For this you need to know goodly how to take measurements in the right way and how to transform them in row and stitch numbers.
After all those steps you can start to knit your project. Here I must say that it never works from the first time. I make changes and remakes 2-3 times in average  during the knitting.
As you see the process isn’t easy at all. A knitter, who buy knitting patterns, don’t think about all those steps and frequently believes that pattern prices are too high.
As a knitwear designer I must say that all those measurements and calculations take about 30% of time I spend to create a pattern. Ones, I tried to estimate this time and it was about 6 hours for a jacket design. Pay attention, I write only about the time which is necessary to have an idea, to make a swatch (or swatches) and to calculate stitch and row numbers for 3 different sizes. This time doesn’t include the time that is necessary to knit a test model, to write a pattern text description or to make process and tutorial photos and videos.
Do you still believe that it’s easier to make a new knitting pattern than to buy it?

Still knitting some stuff for christmas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A sweater where i have some cm left of the body and the sleeves. Lets see if i finish it before christmas ( which is the evening of the 24th here).
And i knitted some "ornaments" for christmas cards, which are already on their way. The blue one was for practice. The others, 5 in total, are made out of glittery sock wool.
Both patterns are free and on ravelry. I will add the links or names later, i'm tired now.
I want to finish all knitting projects, i have started this year and didn't finish, till the end of the year. I'm on my way...there are just some minor ( boring) things to do. And after that, i will start some sewing ( again). I can feel that my mojo ( or sewjo) is coming back.
