Here’s a picture of me, Linda, Matthew and Linda’s beautiful mom Delores. We all looked happy here but today was another story. Today we said goodbye to mom for the very last time as she was laid to rest following a losing battle with Covid. She was a sweet, devout and kind soul who probably never used a curse word in her life and both Linda and I were deep in tears by the end of the ceremony at the gravesite. God we’ll miss you mom, but now you can be with dad. Faith in Action | Rosemary’s Story —/- About a month ago my mom woke up with partial vision in one eye. It was as if someone pulled a shade down over half her field of vision in her right eye. That’s pretty scary if you ask me but you don’t know my mom. See (no pun intended) she got up out of bed, didn’t panic, made an appointment with a retina specialist and was seen that day once they realized she still had partial vision. Mom didn’t panic because she knew God was with her. I was there when the doctor told her he was going to reconnect the optic nerve and restore her vision. Hope flowed through our veins. The next day she had surgery and all went according to plan. Fast forward a month, recovery is underway and field of vision regained but vision is blurry. At her last appointment, the doctor now mentions she will most likely never see clearly out of that eye again and it will most likely happen to the other eye — this was a shock. My mother again is steady with the news and affirms her faith in God by asking if there’s anything else he can do — he says, “Nothing.” So she says, “Well then God will take over from here” and thanks God out loud for the vision she has. Throughout this whole experience she’s been thanking God for what He’s blessed her with. I truly believe it’s gratefulness like hers that tugs at our Creator’s heart to work miracles. It already performed one in my heart by showing me what true faith is all about. Lord, today our mom shall undergo surgery to repair her femur fracture. As it is a major one, we know that our mom will be feeling anxious and worried. Let Your presence be felt, comforting and assuring her before surgery. We commit her into Your hands and ask that You watch over her before, during and after the procedure. Please direct and guide the hands and minds of the medical team assigned to do the surgery today. We pray that the team will perform their tasks perfectly and precisely respectively, with a focused mind attuned to Your command. We pray that our mom will be healed fast and soon, after the surgery and she will continue to proclaim Your goodness, grace and mercy. We lift up our prayers to You, Lord. A Meditative, Divine trip to the Isla Mujeres, Coral Beach.  Womanhood, Motherhood, All a Gift.

The smile on my face in this picture doesn’t accurately convey the feelings that I experienced once we arrived on Isla Mujeres - the “Island of the Women.” A day trip with Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancún, I had absolutely no expectation for this island visit. On the way over, I listened to music as I’m prone to do when I’m on the water - Future Islands, Joseph Salvat, Christopher Cross, Coldplay - and, as always, they all relaxed my soul as we set off to this new-to-me place. As soon as we stepped onto the island, I felt almost high - but I hadn’t ingested anything that would create that feeling. I just felt at home. Relaxed. Open to all. As we walked to the Mayan temple where the women used to come from far to participate in fertility rituals, I asked our host, Erika, if women still came here to pray for fertility. I was answered with hundreds of entrance bracelets tied on the bushes behind a sign that said simply, “Thank you for helping us to be mothers.” It shook me to my core. My friend on the trip (who had her own journey with motherhood and had been to the island before) saw this, and said, “Last time, I took a little piece of it back with me - just a little stone.” I knew I was being directed to do the same. I wandered the cliff’s edge until I found a shell-looking stone - beautiful but with flaws, just like me. I put it in my pocket and as I did, an unsolicited voice in my head said to me: “You need to approach motherhood the way you feel right now.” I knew exactly what it was saying. It brought tears to my eyes. Oftentimes, as a 40-year-old, when I think of having children one day, it terrifies me because I don’t know how or when it is going to happen or what it’s going to look like. I knew that the voice was telling me: Stop being afraid. Do not stress. Relax in whatever process of motherhood comes your way. And, it gave me a feeling of freedom I have been desperately wanting. Isn’t that life in general? We try to control it all, and yet in reality, we have such little control. In this walking meditative state, I asked the island a few more questions but I’m going to choose to keep those answers to myself. Needless to say, they were powerful, as well. Here’s my gift from the island to you: In the things that stress and worry you most, take the converse action and relax. Listen. Pray. Meditate.
