Today's 2019 #Transbaviaans Repeat was supposed to be an (ever so slightly) more relaxed version of the 'world's toughest single-stage #mtb race' . It seems, however, that the @ecobound_adventures crew forgot to share this info with the riders cracking the whip along the rugged 230km via #baviaanskloof ... Merciless headwinds resulted in some jockeying for position on a grey and overcast day, with rain & single-figure temperature atop #Bergplaas, but by midday conditions began to clear a bit. #DieOom decided to go play in the primeval #Poortjie Forests, and what a blast it was 🙌🏻😊👌 The leading bunch cranked through #Langwater at pace, and banged via the midway CP just on 3pm. This set them up for a 9h25min finish at #FountainsMall in #jeffreysbay, with Team #UncleFish taking the honours in 9h25min. Mixed Category went to Team #CycloPro, with a surging ride by @traceyannecampbell, @brucecampbell87 and Jay Carneiro. Top position in the women's field went to Team #Sumeil. Vandag in die Geskiedenis: 14 Mei 1965

Kootjie van den Heever oorlede Abraham Jacobus van den Heever, jonger broer van CM van den Heever, is op 16 November 1906 op Poortjie, Trompsburg, gebore. Hy matrikuleer op Reddersburg, en nadat hy ’n paar jaar onderwys gegee het, studeer hy aan die GUK, waarna hy as joernalis by Die Volksblad en Die Suiderstem werk. 

Hy is ’n tyd lank lektor by die Witwatersrandse Universiteit en voordat ’n sonderlinge siekte hom plattrek, redakteur van die Boerdery-Jaarblad. In 1936 verskyn Vlugtige skaduwees, sy eerste bundel verhale. Sy verdienstelikste werke is die Kleurlingverhaal Wraak en Danie se droom (1940). Laasgenoemde vergestalt die emosionele lewe van ’n plaasseun. Skagte (1942) gee ’n beeld van die mynwerkerslewe in Johannesburg. 

Hy het baie geskryf; enkele van sy ander werke is: Merke van die dae (1940), Vreemde vertes (1941), Gebroke lig (1942), Wie ’n ander jaag (1942), Brakgrond (1943), Geslote lewens (1945) en Die waters wat roep (1948).
