In my playthough of pokemon x that I've done over the past week I've noted that the overworld models of pokemon that you tend to find the most(potentially the only ones at all) are Espurr, Marill, Furfrou, Skiddo and Fletchling. I hope that this continues to be notable in pokemon legends ZA. I need there to be a severe abundance of espurrs in lumiose city. Gimme the autism kitties

I, like many others, are often confounded by the fact that several individuals in the Pokémon universe possess psychic powers.
Tumblr media
Where do they come from? Are you born with them? How do they work? How come this is never touched upon?
Tumblr media
Well, folks, I may just have the answer.
They’re egg moves
Let me explain: if we work under the assumption that humans are Pokémon, then it’s reasonable to assume that humans belong in the human-like egg group.
Guess who else is in the human-like egg group?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since a Pokémon is always the species of its mother (unless said mother is a ditto), it’s not far fetched for a fully human kid to have been born with some… abilities.
So, in short:

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are giving Atlantis: the Lost Empire
Tumblr media
In Hisui and Sinnoh, I went on about mountains. Paldea's main geographical feature is potentially a reference to real-world mythos as whale. In Paldea, the biggest feature in the centre of the region is the great crater/Area Zero. When I was playing this game and going into the crater, it reminded me a lot of one of my favourite Disney movies, Atlantis: the Lost Empire. In this movie, an expedition team descends to find treasure (a big similarity with the Treasure Hunt at the Academy), but the explorers only find the lost empire of Atlantis which preserved by the power of crystals that only exist down in Atlantis. This could be a big analogy to tera crystals, which originate from within the crater. The expedition team could bring the crystals from Atlantis with them when they returned to the surface; tera crystals could be brought to the surface in Paldea so people could use their energy to terastalise pokémon.
Another thing that stuck out to me was the way that in the movie for Atlantis: the Lost Empire, the empire fell due to the greed and desire of dominance/power of the king. Greed and desire were also the reasons why the Paldean Empire fell to ruin. Both rulers kept wanting more, which lead to the demise of both civilisations and, in Scarlet/Violet, the creation of four other legendary pokémon to embody the spirit of those who resented the greedy ruler's ambitions:
Tumblr media
The Empire of Atlantis itself is something that originates from records of Plato, the Greek philosopher. The empire was physically submerged because of a great flood (perhaps as a punishment for the greedy king or the greed of humankind in general--who knows?) In his record, Atlantis was described as a technologically-advanced civilisation. This lines up with the way that AI which, according to Sada or Turo, exists, but only functions at the heart of the crater. Even if Sada and Scarlet are oriented towards the past, Sada's AI self exists suggesting that there are still some technological advancements that are unique to the crater.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When the player descends into the crater and has the final showdown with Sada/Turo's Miraidon/Koraidon, the innermost room with the time machine is completely surrounded by crystals. This reminded me of the pivotal scene in Atlantis: the Lost Empire where the explorers discover the power source keeping the remains of the people and civilisation of Atlantis alive. At the heart of the empire is the crystal chamber (which has an epic soundtrack! https://youtu.be/EH8iRhEyg3M) In the movie, this is a life force that triggers a mechanism to protect the empire by summoning golems who generate "force fields" around Atlantis.
Tumblr media
This YouTuber also draws direct links between Atlantis and the game. I wasn't the only one who was thinking, "this game is giving Atlantis..." The YouTuber shows in this timestamp (https://youtu.be/1JdOZDFzZmU?t=205) the actual text files for the game. when the player is in the crater, Arven, Nemona, and Penny will follow the player to the heart of the crater. As they walk around behind, they converse in text flashing at the bottom of the screen. In the game's files, Paldea is titled "Atlantis."
Tumblr media
This is how Atlantis is described and one word stands out here:
Tumblr media
Orichalcum Pulse is Koraidon's ability:
Tumblr media
The last thing I will add is that the legend for Atlantis in the Atlantis: The Lost Empire movie was written in a book which was carried by the explorers. It described where it was, the language, the people, and served as a guide to all things Atlantis:
Tumblr media
This is directly analogous to the Violet and Scarlet books. The book in the movie inspired the main character and his father to seek out Atlantis. The Violet and Scarlet books inspired Sada and Turo as children to build the time machine and research within the crater.
Tumblr media
This leads me to wonder whether Geeta is going to be a Kida or a Roark...

Made some Fakemon ancient and future variants of Furfrou & Vivillon. Specifically the Furfrou is supposed to be an “Great Trim” inspired by Koraidon. And the Vivillon is called “Iron Seasons”.
Haven’t made any Fakemon in awhile so this was fun! I wonder what’s in store for pokemon Z-A?

The Love-Hate thing with XY
Tumblr media
Something I’ve had thoughts on ever since I’ve seen more of the Anipoke community and it’s an interesting situation
XY seems to be a fan favorite series of all the Pokémon series
With XY generally being seen as one of the best from a more ranking critic review viewpoint (look at IMDb scores for example)
So why is there such a divide among fans?
1) It gets so much loved it’s hated
It’s a weird yet normal reaction
There are definitely some fans out there that praise it so much that it can get annoying
Some actually use it to put down other series which is definitely not good
And some it’s the only thing they mention which over-saturates it in the grand scheme of Pokémon discussion which can also be annoying when out of 15 posts 12 are XY stuff you can get sick of it
2) XY is the only or one of the few watched by some
I’m constantly surprised by the number of fans that have only watched XY or started with XY
Clearly, some of it is an age thing, when they were in that general age range XY was on TV so it was naturally their first series
But also for one reason or another the way XY was presented got a lot more people wanting to check it out, I don’t know for sure but apparently XY brought in a lot of viewers and it can’t be just the regular wave of kids watching Pokémon for the first time
I mention this as people are then using XY as their basis whether it’s the constant comparison to SM specifically the art style or that they never watched Original series to DP/BW so it has that affect that when you’re watching something older some things don’t look as good since it is older especially for younger viewers
3) Social Media
Social Media been around for awhile before XY in 2013
But around that time was also a pretty big boom as stuff like YouTube were getting to the point that people were YouTubers, Vine was alive, twitter and Facebook were still the general share thoughts platforms and etc
So when clips from this time are shared they were more widespread then before and since it’s more modern its less likely to be gone
For example it’s hard to get stuff from OS-DP as it was just the byproduct of being older
Not everything was digitized, and some of the stuff that was is now gone whether a website taken down, or copyright on YouTube video etc as not everything was just on Serebii and Bulbapedia
Where XY was at a time that was fortunate enough that stuff is hard to lose and copyright was better understood and etc so it was able to build up views and likes and etc
Like I saw a vid where someone who never watched Pokemon was reacting to Ash-Greninja like there's something there
4) Miscellaneous stuff
General stuff that some like but I don’t want to say is a main reason or is big enough to give its own point
Visuals: people loved how XY looked, the art style plus the animation and 3D camera
Approach: generally the most shonen of the Pokémon series and when stuff like shonen is a big hit amongst a similar demographic it gets love for it like Ash being more “mature”, him being more of a leader, etc
Romantic side plot: Serena's crush on Ash at least from what I noticed has its own community with shipping, and I can see it bringing in a lot of girl viewers as romance is a common drawing point for young girls plus it’s a general thing people can like
Preferences: some might just generally like characters like Alain over a character like Paul, which I think is just a preference thing than an objective thing, and this applies to everything naturally
5) Least amount of Problems
I have my personal thoughts on XY, some positive some negative
But I can say from a more objective/critics point of view XY has the least problems of any series
XY consistently looked great, had what feels like the least amount of “filler” episodes, had at least solid arcs for Ash Clemont Serena and Bonnie, decent rivals, a supporting cast, etc
As even though I don’t think Sun and Moon had problems it definitely got backlash from the art style change alone let alone the formula change
BW was a soft reboot so it had a negative response from existing fans
JN had production issues that had them have recaps and such plus the co-lead with Goh stuff
So when you can point to negatives for other series that don’t really apply to XY it’s easy to hold it higher
It’s like saying they all have 5 positives but XY has like 1 negative while the others have 3+ negatives. It doesn’t matter about the positives as the negatives weigh them down more
Like even though it has its weaker points if I have to grade it XY doesn’t go below a 5/10 in anything (plot, character, pacing, etc) where you can say some series do fall below that line
Like I personally don’t care for the Team Flare Arc after the league but I wouldn’t say it was bad in the slightest
So my conclusion?
XY was definitely the right place-right time series
The social media boom, plus the general improvements XY made from BW gave it a lot of fans
So now whether they think it genuinely or they just have nostalgia for it, have XY rated higher and like to talk about it regardless of how much it’s already been discussed
It’s similar to how I remember Original Series
Doesn’t matter what May, Dawn, Paul, etc would do people would still bring up Misty Gary Charizard and etc
And it’s the same with XY, doesn’t matter what the Alola Gang, Iris, Cilan, Goh, or Chloe, they get compared to Clemont Bonnie, Serena, etc, and even Ash gets compared to his XY version
But since XY is more recent and for the most part OS fans aren’t online like that they get the status of being the most vocal and etc
As someone who was older when XY came out and wasn’t around for all the YouTube and etc
They do hype up XY a little too much
But at the same time, I do get the dislike or neutralism for SM and JN, and BW
As people can not like certain aspects of XY but none really got or deserve the backlash the others did so they look better as a result of not having that issue
As if hypothetically all Pokémon series in a vacuum are 7/10’s
Things like BW’s soft reboot make it a 5/10 to those fans for example and this can be applied to all series even XY but if others have more visible issues then they get bogged down more which results in making XY look better
To XY’s credit is a feat in itself but having the least number of issues doesn’t mean any issues which are where a lot of anti’s and people that just get tired of it come from as some do genuinely think XY is perfect
Overall XY is a solid series it came out at the right time when everything surrounding it was more controversial and it was able to explode in popularity thanks to the internet
Both sides are justified as XY has its good points but the fact that it’s seemingly the most discussed and regarded series does seem a bit excessive and I sympathize with those that don’t like it for that or just don’t like that series in general

Rambling time!
So like, I am and have always been deeply curious about how folks with issues verbally speaking handle shit in pokemon. Like, selective mutism, straight up being mute, nonverbal, or stutters. Tics perhaps.
Just... Various speech impediments.
I'm partial to imagining selective mutism personally because I really feel the urge to cease speaking in confrontations or in front of crowds. Perhaps a whistle? Or a flute? Something to communicate without words... Or some sort of pokemon able to read minds and communicate telepathically. Maybe.
This clashes somewhat with my personal issue with pokemon seemingly only knowing four moves. Though I'm not sure how firm they are to this rule in the anime, I understand it for games at least. Makes it easier and forces you to strategize. Without memorizing hundreds of move effects.
But you can't tell me your Pikachu forgets how to tackle something just because you taught them volt tackle, iron tail, thunder bolt, and babydoll eyes or whatever. Sure, maybe YOU forget tackling is an option, but there's no way "physically bodyslam them" was forgotten by your Pokemon. And that goes for anything else they learn. I'll believe the 'upgrade' attacks end up being favored over weaker, basic variant before that. Makes more sense at least.
Anyway! This just makes it more difficult to piece together how one would go about fights if they can't or won't speak. Their pokemon can't always be watching them for signs, that's asking to get your shit rocked.
It's an interesting question and I personally just really love the idea of someone nervously, silently doing a fight to the best of their ability. Going back, befriending the opponent (train Bois right now cause I have submas brain rot and I'm not even mad), until one day they stammer their attacks. Growing more confident and exhilarated, pokemon thrilled to hear their commands while they (the opponent/s) are in awe that their friend is so comfortable in such an intense environment that they use their voice.
It's a sweet little sentiment.
Also, little riolu with a service vest as emotional support/pokemon support since somehow this fighting type is able to hear human thoughts or whatever. At least Lucario is? But baby riolu in a little vest riding their trainer's shoulder. Or a the hat one that will hunt you down for feeling things too loud. That'd also be really cute.
Would a service pokemon be allowed to fight in a pokemon battle or are they required to sit out for their actual job outside of self defense?
Interesting world building questions for later I suppose.

Can you imagine a 4 year old in the pokemon world who just absolutely LOVED fossils, and spent every minute of his time collecting fossils and studying them and just looking at pictures of them as pokemon? Can you imagine what it’d be like for his mom to tell him “yknow if you want, we can take one of your fossils to the local professor and see if we can revive them”? Can you imagine the pure shock and excitement on that boy’s face when he hears that? Can you imagine him bouncing off the walls to meet his new friend? Can you imagine the delicate sweetness he might take to that revived Pokémon? Can you imagine the boundless love he would feel for this thing of eons ago finally living breathing infront of him?
CAN YOU?????

Welcome to game theory, you know galarian slowking? You know how the shellder controls the slowpoke as Galarian slowking? You know how it's not really mentioned what happens when said shellder is removed?
Here before you are 5 theories I have. Where are you on the theory pipeline? (Or one not mentioned here can work too)

I just had a thought.
Nemona is like the player.
Like, as in, Nemona acts like a player character that’s gained sentience in a sense.
Many people who play Pokémon can beat the game in just a few days or weeks, NPCs usually take months or years to reach a Player Character’s level. And many Pokémon players love to battle (and/or play Competitive).
Nemona LOVES to battle.
Nemona is a player character. Think of Red kinda, Red was once a player character but became an NPC you could battle. I feel like Nemona is the same, no matter if some people say she’s easy to beat. I definitely had trouble in some of her battles.

Clavell is Just Paldean Zinzolin & Kalos DLC
Tumblr media
Zinzolin is just Paldean Clavell. The things that have been seen cannot be unseen!
I hope I am not the only one to notice this, but Clavell is just Zinzolin's Paldean variant! The two have the same hair colour as they age, the same defined cheek bones, the same hairstyle with the middle part, and the same goatees. The only differences are that Clavell's eyebrows are darker while Zinzolin's are white; conversely, Zinzolin's goatee is darker while Clavell's is white.
Tumblr media
Here is a close-up photo of Zinzolin without his funny hat from the Pokémon Generations episode "The Uprising" which can be watched on YouTube. The hair and face are pretty similar!
Tumblr media
Before anyone says anything: I know this is a wig. This is a reach on my part but if the man, the myth, the legend, Clive, who is 100% not Clavell chose this wig based on the hair colour or style he had when he was younger, than that's another similarity between the two guys. This very well could be some random Poké-Party City wig he just happens to own; if it is, I will gladly take the L.
Tumblr media
If Clavell did have that colour of hair when he was younger, Zinzolin has the same dirty blond colour in his original sprite for Pokémon Black & White (on the right); the hair of his sprite has a lighter tint two years later during the events of Black 2 & White 2 (on the left) as he ages and it eventually becomes white like Clavell's.
Tumblr media
This is not the best photo, but it does show the same tint of colour and style as the sprite, minus the goatee (even if he has one in the sprites!) The exposure from the lighting makes it harder to see... This photo comes from a Pokémon Evolutions episode that can be found on YouTube in which Ghetsis recruits N and has the coronation from the cut-scene at the start of the B/W games.
One thing Pokémon likes to do is use physical character designs and names as a way to show kind of relationship between characters. The most obvious canon examples of this are in Pokémon Legends Arceus where Cyllene is just a gender-bent Cyrus and Arezu (Ares) is just Mars in a hoodie using the Greek name for the same planet.
Tumblr media
Zinzolin's name refers to a reddish-purple shade in French. The Japanese name Vio is also meant to originate from the French word for Violet.
Tumblr media
Clavell's name comes from the Spanish/Catalan words for "carnation," and "clove." Another reach on my part, but Zinzolin's name means a violet colour. Clavell's name refers to carnations, which are red.
Look! It's Scarlet and Violet!
Zinzolin is part of the Seven Sages, a bunch of guys Ghetsis rounded up to LARP with from all over the world. The fact that Zinzolin's name is meant to originate from the French word for Violet could suggest Ghetsis brought him over from Kalos or Paldea while he was looking for like-minded individuals to dress up and go on D&D campaigns with. A tweet from Matsumiya in 2012 clarifies that Zinzolin's name was meant to originate from the French word for Violet, but it didn't quite carry over into English translations of the game since these two words are spelt the same in English and in French...
Tumblr media
Regardless! An attempt was made and I am going with it as a possible indication that Zinzolin is somehow tied to Poké-France/Kalos.
What does any of this have to do with the potential DLC for Scarlet & Violet?
Everyone and their sister is guessing that the DLC will involve some return to Kalos. The signs are all there with the mountains at the edge of the map that Koraidon/Miraidon won't grip (yet) but are clearly there. There is a whole portion of the map hashed out like Area Zero is on the top-right where Kalos would be if we're applying real geography to the fictional regions. Many theorists and fans have their reasons as to why there might be Kalos DLC. I for one hope this is true because Pokémon Y was a missed opportunity and she deserves justice!
Paldea is gently caressing the borders of South-Western Kalos. Any relation between Clavell and Zinzolin could be possible if Zinzolin comes from Kalos or moved to Paldea at some point.
Tumblr media
Zinzolin's team from Poképédia
One last thing to note is that Zinzolin even uses pokémon that can also be found around Glaseado Mountain in Paldea; Cryogonal can be found around the peaks, and Sneaslers/Weaviles tend to spawn around that snowy area of region. These pokémon are also found in Unova and he could have just as easily found them around there, but the coincidence still stands that Zinzolin has pokémon with him that can also be found chilling in the mountain range that borders Paldea and Kalos. I'm guessing that this range is meant to be similar to the Pyrenées, which function as a natural "divider" between the two actual countries of Spain and France.
Even if I am the only one to notice these similarities between Zinzolin and Clavell, I wanted to share them anyway. I thought it would be cool if they were somehow related when their physical features are similar and their naming schemes have parallels to Scarlet and Violet. It felt interesting enough to write out, so here it is! If someone else thought the same, I am glad I'm not the only one!
Originality is dead so if this looks like something someone else has mentioned or theorised at some point, it is not "copying" or "stealing" by any means. The wonderful thing about theories and speculations for lore and characters is that many people can come to the same conclusion about things if enough clues point them in a certain direction.
No single person can act like they own a theory for a game when the fanbase is so vast, and so many people love to look deeper into the story or characters like this. There's a high chance that many people will think or see the same things and that's partly what makes sharing theories or thoughts so fun!
The same can be said of official images or artwork for the games: no tumblr user has exclusive rights to post these if they are available to public! You can't "own" them unless you designed the character yourself, or were on the development team for the game. You can find all of the above images on Bulbapedia and I linked the Pokémon episodes I referred to for your viewing pleasure!

Pokémon Z-A: My thoughts & Predictions!
(Plus some Fakemon!!!)
While much was revealed in the trailer on Pokemon Day, the visuals and content told us enough about what may potentially be in the game. Partially from the fact that it's another installment in the “Legends' ' series of Pokemon games with the last one being Legends Arceus, we will probably expect similar gameplay. That being a more open world breath of the wild or monster hunter formatted game with lots of action and scenic graphics. Which at least for me as someone who is a huge fan of open fantastical environments I'm excited about.
Also, the fact that the last Legends game set the president learning about the past of the Pokemon world. This makes me hopeful that we'll learn a lot more about the events of what happened before Pokemon X & Y. both came out in 2012. Before I continue, here's a bit of context on X & Y conceptually as past Pokemon games.
Pokemon X & Y take place in the Kalos Region which is based in France with architecture like the tower in Lumiose City being insured by the Eiffel Tower. Also, the choice of Pokemon that were introduced in that game as well as the debut of the newest type at a time fairy. This game has gone down in JRPG infamy for introducing Mega Evolution as well as the amount of incomplete content it had which segway into my main point of writing this.
What will be answered in the new game? And what will be introduced into the games going forward?
Both of these questions are what I'll be using to guide my hopes & predictions of what potentially will be in this newest game.
New Pokemon:
Tumblr media
The full visual of all the Pokemon introduced in X&Y.
Like I stated before XY was infamous for having only 72 new Pokemon. But it is revealed later in the original games that many Pokemon died in a war in the Kalos region's past. So theoretically if there is some type of time travel or Pokemon restoration mechanic there is the possibility some of these “extinct” Pokemon could make a comeback with their first debut in this game.
Time travel:
As stated at the start the last Pokemon Legends game involved time travel with the protagonist going to the past of a different region of the Pokemon world. And from the fact that we see in the Pokemon Z trailer two distinctly different maps of Lumiose City one that looks old and the other looking modern, I am led to believe that this could potentially nod towards a past and future jumping through time aspect to the game. Which depending on how it's implemented could be great.
Expanded character lore:
Through the past and future mechanics that are being added too, we could see past Pokemon characters (gym leaders, trainers, rivals, etc.) either fulfill their dreams from past games or find out who their ancestors and/or children are. It wouldn't be the first time Pokemon has done this. But generally whenever they bring back characters from past games or introduce characters that are related to other characters they almost always get really good reception. Especially since they are usually the opposites of the character they are based on personality which could lead to some entering in game dynamics.
AZ’s Floette:
So probably one of the biggest unanswered questions that's been in the Pokemon community for a decade if not more at this point is what happened to AZ Floette? Does it have an evolution?
For context, AZ is a character who created a machine that would revive his Pokemon that tragically died in the Pokemon war of Kalos past. He did this by using the love of other Pokemon to power the machine. Thus bringing back his beloved Pokemon but with a different more gothic form.
Tumblr media
What's interesting about this is that even after we see Floette return to see AZ before flying away once again, it never evolves.
But there was concept art that was leaked several years ago of a potential Floette evolution that was drafted at Game Freak so there's still hope that we may not only be able to catch this mysterious Pokemon but also unleash its full potential.
Closing thoughts & Concepts:
Honestly, I think it will be pretty difficult for this game to disappoint me. Even though I have to wait till 2025 (which will break the Gamefreak year schedule of releasing a Pokemon game) I am okay with that if it means I finally get to experience a Pokemon game that is complete on release. For the past several years Game Freak has released a game and then some DLCs when all we want is the whole game all at once. And while the DLC content can be nice it should feel supplemental and nonessential like if I don't get it I am missing core content but that is a whole conversation in itself.
Out of excitement and the fact that whenever a new Pokemon game is announced I always love creating some Fakemon to see how accurate my predictions for the game may be and/or what concepts may be implemented but with my spin on it. Below are a few different Pokemon forms that I came up with for Pokemon that I hope will be in the game. I am fully aware that they won't look like my iterations but I have fun making them as an artist and Pokemon fan.
Quick sketch I did of Floette Evolution Ideas:

Pros and Cons of each Pokémon series
Tumblr media
OS: Great world-building but permanently hurt the foundation of the series with its adaptation of the game mechanics
AG: Established a better foundation for characters with plots and growth and such but lack of standout factor will always make it the forgotten middle child of OS and DP
DP: Has some of the best aspects of Pokémon in general like rivals and characterization but also has some of the worst handling of other aspects like pacing and balancing
BW: In a vacuum is one of the better series to start with due to its more modern take on OS with numerous improvements, but in reality, it’s the middle series and it's being treated like a new beginning hurts it as it can’t escape that aspect o resetting things while also trying to keep the past alive
XY: On paper did a lot pretty well, from pacing to presentation but it also felt shallow at times as the depth wasn't truly there for some of the decisions the series made making it feel like the pretty but shallow stereotype of the shows
SM: Had pretty excellent character work, but the change in formula does make a lot of things feel extra instead of vital in the grand scheme of things
JN: it did a good job of going through all regions and giving the characters reasons and purpose to be there but a lot of past aspects people want and expect fell short such as not as much Galar or Chloe not being a true third member
HZ: (still early so these are just based on the 22 episodes I've watched) Can feel the anime team has now a proper feel of the world and characters but also the anime has less of a motivating factor to watch as the goals lend well to keeping the anime going Roy’s and Friede’s goals are like Ash’s Pokemon Master goal, and Liko is in her Chloe not completely sure yet period but the driving factor to keep coming back week to week is weak so far
I stick with a previous statement I've made where each series is like a 7/10 just focusing on different things where depending on your preferences and such can like one series more than the other
If you like action more then you would like XY more, if you like character building more you might like SM more etc
Something I don't think people have said much before is that I think OS, BW, and XY are great for people not familiar with Pokemon previously whereas AG, DP, and JN are great for those who know the history of the series and even games
This means a fan of like 20 years would hate BW but love DP because of the soft reset and following DP where Ash was at a high but someone new would appreciate BW more than a DP as DP doesn't welcome new people as much as a BW
I like all series but have just been seeing more discourse specifically around XY again online and felt that I should post my thoughts as I do like each series but each has its own problems
Like if want to just relax and have fun with the show I would put on OS or SM, action DP or XY, Want to get a concise viewing of a standard Ash journey BW, watch Ash win AG or JN, or something new with no cost worries HZ
