Has anyone in the one piece shipping community ever taken advantage of the fact that the captain of a ship can officiate marriages yet?
Idk I've never seen it in fics before (granted I am not a fan of marriage and usually don't read about it so maybe I'm not the one to ask) but it's such a fun fact.
Also if it's the captain getting married, the first mate is allowed to officiate and if it's the captain and the first mate then I think it was the second mate's turn?
It has potential you guys! Think about it.

Truly … I am in love with these pirates. All of them. This show is absolutely killing it and it is a MASTERCLASS in storytelling. If you haven’t started watching … fix that. Catch up. This tale is heartbreakingly beautiful 🥹

For some reason I got Bluebeard and Blackbeard mixed up in my head and i was understandably panicked like Remus is your WHAT
RADICALLY different vibes (for those who don't know bluebeard was a fictional (?) dude famous for killing all his wives)
funfact Blackbeard didn't kill people, most pirates, at least the famous ones from the 1700s, were not really into killing which i find interesting Blackbeard WAS terrifying tho and put fuses in his beard and created this whole insane persona which maybe was real or maybe was just an act no one knows

Black Beard Myth
In media Black Beard aka Edward Thatch is often represented as coming from a non-wealthy background, this is in fact quite false. While most likely he did not come from an aristocratic background it is safe to assume he came from an upper middle class household: This is plausible because of the fact that Blackbeard knew how to read and write, this being proven in documentation that he has written. Being able to read was a privilege not many had in that time because most couldn’t afford a teacher.

Lol I mess up myself on which side the eyepatch is on at some points xD But for now I suppose it's on their right
OH OH FUN FACTTT THE EYE PATCH WASNT USUALLY AN EYE INJURY it's used so they can have one eye always adjusted to the dark, and thus don't have to wait vulnerable when going to the lower deck!
(sorry if I heard this from you dgjshhdgh)
So Sasha could totally just be switching it up, never ask a bi person to make a choice between 2 things lol

Fool's Gold: Pirate Facts!
° Series Masterlist
A/N: So I've decided to start posting facts whether it's about the story or about actual pirates. Might as well since I took a whole literature class about pirates. Finally, my useless knowledge is being used.
Tumblr media
⚓︎ Grog- it's two things, but in this case, it's basically spirits mixed with water. Usually rum is used (so really just diluted rum) and it was introduced in 1740s. It's actually not that bad of a drink. Here's a recipe if you want to try it (21+ only obviously).
⚓︎ The visuals that I'm using for looks is Don't Stop mv.
⚓︎ The roles that were revealed/hinted at:
Hongjoong- Captain
-sometimes captains are actually voted (relying mostly on charisma and abilities)
-some cases, captains were about the same level of authority as any other pirate on board, except during a battle
Seonghwa- Quartermaster/First Mate
-these roles are essentially the same (sometimes a crew may not have a quartermaster)
-quartermasters are the second in command (depending on the ship) and are basically distributors (decide who gets what in terms of prizes and rations and such)
-they also handle punishments (captain orders it, quartermaster administers it)
-first mate is someone who's picked as the second in command
Yunho- Sailing/Pilot Master
-pilot: steers the ship
-usually master pilots work with the navigator and captain to pilot the ship
-gives orders in terms of steering and making sure the ship doesn't crash
-in this case, Yunho is also a master navigator and knows the sea like the back of his hand (obviously has help)
Yeosang- Boatswain
-for pirates, a boatswain (or bos'n) can be fourth mate; kind of like a general manager
-responsible for running the ship and making sure everything's in order
-with a large crew, a boatswain is under the quartermaster
Wooyoung- Cook/Carpenter
-carpenter: carpentry and were highly valued
-if there isn't a medic on board, carpenters usually are the ones to do amputations (which makes sense)
-cooks: butchers that had little training
-sometimes the cook can be a random person in the crew who was assigned to the galley to cook food
Mingi- Master Gunner
-gunners are skilled men who aimed the guns/cannons and took care of the artillery
-very valuable
-master gunner is the person in charge on the guns
San- Gunner's Mate
-assists the master gunner
-also skilled and valued on board
Jongho- Cabin boy
-basically an errand boy
-usually a young boy
-runs messages and errands
-in this story, he also occasionally helps Yunho and Yeosang if needed (can't be an errand boy forever)
⚓︎ There are others in the crew and important or well-known roles that have not been stated are taken up by others.
⚓︎ Captain Avery is an actual pirate.
English pirate in the mid-1690s.
The end of his life is very weird. Some claim that he changed his name and spent all of his money (or maybe not), then he fell sick and died. It's uncertain of where he died.
His crew fled to Madagascar and became tyrants there.
His treasure has never been recovered.
Tumblr media
Well, that should be all for facts based on Chapters 1 and 2 of Fool's Gold. And of course you can ask about it and I may be able to answer your questions... maybe...

Uhhh sooooo NYC 80’s punk scene AU where ed used to play in bands when younger but not anymore & runs a popular venue and is totally burned out on the scene. Until a blonde weirdo wearing pastels started coming to shows there and he had to understand what is going on with this guy?? And the guy wants to learn more about this world and Ed confused but ends up having more fun than he has in ages??

My favorite genre of scene with the Straw hats is when they're all frightened they're going to get killed by a big big scary monster and Luffy looks at the creature like he's gonna befriend a tiny cute beetle

Pirates and The Royal Navy’s Swords
Pirate are known for carrying cutlasses, but they didn’t actually invent them; The French actually invented the cutlass. Pirates were big fans of them though.
For a long time the Royal Navy would use a broad sword called a “Hanger” Until 1804 when this happened:
Tumblr media
Pirates had cutlasses 200ish years before the Navy. The navy realised that Hangers required more training and were just plain bad weapons then copied the pirates that they were fighting.
