Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” (River’s Version)

The Thin Ice

Steam emerges from under the bathroom door flowing into the empty bedroom. All the glass is fogged up, including a little photograph on the bedside table that had been framed. A small picture of River and his two kids. He was playing the guitar for them as a six year old Stu held his baby sister Riley.

Mama loves her baby

Mel’s hand resting on River’s shoulder. An engagement ring shines.

And daddy loves you too

River always tried his best to raise his kids, wanting to be better than his absent father. But ten years have come and gone, Stu seventeen and Ri nearing seven, River was growing more and more absent.

As far as River was concerned, Stu should’ve been more. Maybe if River would’ve kept his mother alive, maybe then Stu wouldn’t of turned out the way he did. Stu was an accident over all. A slip of instincts acting up one night. The urge to create a heir. Now, all the two did was argue. River knew that Stu was confused about his past, but River wouldn’t spill. Stu resented that. No promises of the world could get rid of that.

And the sea may look warm to you babe

Riley on the other hand, was getting on River’s nerves. Riley wasn’t Rivers. River had found Riley one day on the way home from work, back when River had a softer soul. The little girl was nearing seven and had a closer relationship with Mel, which annoyed River to no end. River constantly was around Riley, always having to take her into the bar and appointments since Mel sort of resented Riley in a way. Riley didn’t know what was best for her, Stu seemed to be too distant to care. She had made a new friend.

The sky may look blue

But time would move forward. Mel and River would continue to fight. Stu would continue to resent his father. And Riley? She would go on to find a wonderful girl. Stu and Riley were in high school, River still worked at the bar and Mel continued to be a mystery.

If you should go skating

River shut the light off, his eyes clenched tight as he palmed water off of his face. Tiny pink droplets stained the shower. He’d have to make up a lie before he could clean it.

On the thin ice of modern life

He wrapped a towel around his shaking form, soft and white. They were new, they hadn’t been stained yet. River’s scarred hands held onto the wall as he walked to the sink and wiped off the steam residue.

Dragging behind you the silent reproach

River had been in this same position many times. His yellow eyes fixed on his own reflection, tracing over his burns. His daughter had caused them. Playing with a “bad” kind of water one day, the sizzling still haunted his ears.

Of a million tear stained eyes

River took shallow breaths as he began drying his hair. He had a good life up until this point, it seemed. Mel was being unreasonable and his kids… God his kids.

Don’t be surprised when a crack in the ice

He considered running away, but where would he run to?

Appears under your feet.

He reached for his pills, taking a few and cracking his neck. He felt bad. Really fucking bad.

You slip out of your depth and out of your mind

He put his clothes on and went into his room. Devoid of his fiancé. Great.

With your fear flowing out behind you

He laid back on the bed with a groan. He stared up at the roof, you could hear a pin drop.

As you claw the thin ice.

Il y a environ 1 ans , j'avais appris le morceaux "Is There Anybody Out There " de Pink floyd. Je me suis donc amusée à rejouer le morceaux, 1 ans après ☺. Je trouve que par rapport à l'année dernière, je maîtrise mieux le morceaux. Par contre je trouve que je joue le morceaux un peu trop vite XD

Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” (River’s version)

Is there anybody out there?

The water pelts his skin, it’s hot and steam pours out past the curtain, staining the mirror. He tries to rid his hands of the red tint they hold. The hot water and pointlessly eucalyptus scented soap doing nothing. His eyes are foggy and he’s lost in thought. Thinking to himself. He thinks of an encounter with his friend. Jesse.

“Well, we only got an hour of daylight, better get started.”

“You killed someone, didn’t you Rivera?” A younger River looked down at his blood stained hands. He was shaking.

“I swear I didn’t mean to- I usually try to feed on animals- I- I don’t know what came over me!” The Norwegian boy of seventeen panicked.

“Hey. We knew this was going to happen eventually. Calm down.” Jesse had half a notion to slap River, try and get some sense into him.

“Isn’t it unsafe to travel at night?”

“At least you didn’t freak out during the day? Right?” Jesse tried to reason, he walked up to him. “Do you still need to feed? Your fangs are out.”

Jesse had known River was a vampire for years now. Found out when River tried to kill him. River shook his head no. He looked incredibly guilty.

“What if they find out..” he muttered.

“It’ll be a lot less safe to stay here, your father’s gunna pick up our trail before long.”

Jesse’s hand quickly met River’s face, causing a hiss. Ironically he slapped a part of his face that would be scarred years later.

“Get ahold of yourself. They’re not going to see fang marks and go ‘oh this was definitely Rivera.’ You didn’t mean to feed. He was a dick anyways. They’ll think it’s an animal or he did it himself. He was drunk.”

“Can Loca ride?”

River nodded. Breathing in and out deeply.

“Okay Jesse. I get it.”

“Now. Go home. You have a husband and a kid. And a baby now. They don’t need to get worried.”

“Yeah, I can ride, Margaret, time to go! Maigret, thank you for everything.”

“Okay. Yeah. You’re right.” Jesse nodded and smiled, but there was no emotion behind it.

“Good. I’ll take care of it.”

“Goodbye Chenga,”

River grabbed his jacket slipping it on and walking towards the door.

“Goodbye miss.”

“Seeya Jesse,” river muttered, taking his lighter and a cigarette out of his pocket.

“Yeah, I’ll see you River.”

“I’ll be back,”

River scrubbed at his skin, trying to get the red tint off his hand. The shower threatening to burn his skin. He gave up, looking up at the shower head, letting the water fall on his face.
