#i'm not at all surprised when the people in power are absolutely the type who would get angry #if they were denied access to a relative's infant #this was also posted when infant covid deaths were (and still are) shooting up #in no small part because rapid tests 'can't be trusted' #'covid isn't airborne so no one needs to wear a mask' #and 'if you feel fine you can't have covid' #also public health and regional health authorities are run by people who talk about how good herd immunity is #and the pho engaged in a province-wide exposure experiment and waived the need for an ethics review before going ahead #and she's fucked off to who knows where for weeks now #except for a photo op where she was handing out ice cream #needless to say no one who understands medicine listens to the bc cdc anymore #and the bc cdc supporting anything is a red flag and good sign to do the opposite #bc #bc poli #canada

6/10. This dish was from pho 79 in Miami and it was decent . i forget the name but it was a dry noodle mixture with marinated, stir-fried tofu. don't get me wrong, it was good !! but it could've be been better :c the tofu was hard and it kind of hurt to bite into! and the dish itself was just not as flavorful as i had hoped. i had to order another side of eggrolls to eat with it.

I ate at “the wash” which has a ton of diffrent restaurants in the area we ate at bay 6 aka ESP and they serve Vietnamese street food! Here are my thoughts

Accessibility! The parking lot as wonky so we parked across the street and there’s no handy cap parking, and it was a walk with a timed cross walk,but otherwise you can order then sit down almost immediately! Unless your able to be dropped off and can walk up one level me and my aunt give it a 7/10

Atmosphere is nice,it is outdoors but it smells great not too loud,and perfect if your with friends! 10/10

Lastly the food! I got the chicken pho and it’s utterly delicious! The broth is nice and warm and with the added sauces it had a bit of a kick! It also comes with cilantro,another herb I can’t name and bean sprouts! I got boba to drink on my way home and it tastes so good! I got the hong king milk tea!! Over all a 10/10

Final grade is a 27/30 or a 90/100!

A Pho Love Story by Loan Le

My opinion in three sentences:

This was a sweet and enjoyable read with some strong writing and characterisation. The plot and story itself were adequate, but nothing to really set your world alight (I, for one, was expecting a lot more drama and tension from something described as a modern take on Romeo and Juliet.) I have to laud the audiobook version whilst I'm at it, though - there was a lot of Vietnamese speech which the narrators brought to life, but which as written text I feel may have not been so effective.

(Without spoiling anything) the best bit:

Food played a key role in the book and was easily one on the USPs separating it from other similar contemporaries. Le more than did it justice with some exquisite (and dare I say, delectable) description of the culinary delights - I know I'm not the only one who found themselves hungry when reading this! With such great prose, I can see Le crafting some top reads in the future.

A warning for the book:

Whilst this doesn't make it a bad read, there's nothing that makes the book stand out particularly. It's marketed as a Romeo and Juliet set in the Vietnamese restaurant scene but actually lacked the tension and clashes I would have expected from such a book, rendering it pretty similar to many contemporary YA counterparts. So, gorgeously written, but nothing to particularly knock your socks off (which is the kind of read we all look for from time to time).

- ingredients: homemade pho broth from last week that has been sitting in my fridge, butter, milk, instant mashed potato, dried shallot, sriracha

- review: 5/10

i call this photatoes. was hoping to use my pho broth before it became questionably fresh but can’t eat chunky soups presently so i used it to steep potato dust for a goal of safe thickness. flavor is good but it’s still really thin i didn’t get the ratios right. whatever. also i cooked this while sitting in front of the stove in a wheely office chair per a recommendation from an occupational therapist. happy valentines day

Some other thoughts on hypothetical social media presences:

- If he had to, Brian would probably run a very eclectic but well organized, entirely unsuspecting blog that consisted mostly of reblogged martial arts instructionals and art he liked. He would not do things with it often, and would completely stop posting after Levi. If you ever asked him if he’d used tumblr, he’d probably be extremely sheepish about it.

- By virtue of her power, Aisha would be able to maintain an online presence as a cape with relatively little heat coming down on her. Initially terse and of poor quality, she rapidly improves and begins presenting complex, witty, almost Hunter S. Thompsonesque profiles and descriptions of cape life and other villains. After adopting the Heartbroken, they get even better, integrating her intelligence and style with a better knowledge of the literary canon. Unfortunately for Anglos, it would also contain excessive references and passages in Quebecois.

- This is tangential, but I must presume for the sake of the meme that Heartbreaker is from La Salle.

- Rachel would have a single, extremely cracked phone for two reasons: to call the Undersiders, and to follow dog-based gimmick accounts.

- Somehow, Lily actually ended up a fan of Bonesaw’s account before it was revealed that it wasn’t actually fiction. It haunts her to this day.

- Sabah would have had a kink sideblog. I just know it. I know she is would have. Furthermore, she would swear off tumblr after the porn ban in protest.

- I know in my heart of hearts that Armsmaster is a redditor. He just slightly changed the type of redditor he is over the course of the serial.

God, these are all such 100% on point. To throw in a few of my own:

Shatterbird runs an absolutely brutal Goodreads that is nothing but essay long reviews of her thoughts on the book she was reading that week, interspersed with philosophical theories and fucked up anecdotes of her time in the nine. Somehow never gets deleted.

Numberman spends hours on Wallstreet Bets gaming the Stockmarket to make sure people lose money. He even got himself to be made the mascot of the reddit.

Feel like there's a really good chance Lisa would be on twitter. Seems like it would be the perfect type of mean girl environment for her to thrive in. She runs some twenty thousand follower account that is nothing but dropping horrible secrets about other capes that post bad takes.

Almost no capes actually use PHO. That's the sort of environment that attracts only geeks and losers who spend all day arguing about Who Would Win fights, which is why Victoria Dallon is on there.

Also thank you for that Aisha S. Thompson idea. There's a non-zero chance I might try writing that wormfic someday.

Funny Games USA. I was soooooo looking forward to see this movie, because I heard only very good reviews. But I was extremely disappointed. First 20-30 minutes were very good, than it was terribly boring and I stopped paying any attention in the middle of it.

Spad by František Kotleta. It's amazing, I would really recommend it, but it's only in Czech language. Unfortunately.
