I seriously Head Canon the fact that wittle 10 year old Quill would get cocky and steal a ship. While he absolutely does get fuckin' chased by the guys he stole the ship from, he also just calls up Yondu and just ASKS him to save him from two Big Bad Meanies who are chasing him.

Ofcourse, Yondu isn't dumb, but he'd rather not bury a kid so he does go pick up both Peter AND the ship while kicking his ass and shouting at him for being a complete dumbass.

However, unexpectedly, Yondu lets him have the ship without taking it away or even selling it. Peter thought it that the old guy just forgot 'cause he's old, little did he know that that weird centaurian gave it knowingly, being mildly annoyed and kinda proud.

One of my friends described Peter Quill as a, and I quote:

“He is a chicken, Dumb, bratty, and flightless. Flightless yet still escape anyway”

And honestly that's the best description I’ve heard of him.
