Expedition to Fort Meigs by Peter Rindlisbacher.

As much as I constantly dwell on the War of 1812, it's bizarre to think of Ohio as the site of multiple maritime battles. Fort Meigs is also on the Maumee River, some distance from Lake Erie. The Royal Navy force depicted by Peter Rindlisbacher had to transfer to the ship's boats to storm the fort.

Fort Meigs initially was more of an armed camp than a fort. Troops lived in tents inside the stockade. [...] The completed fort was attacked in early May [1813] by British colonel Procter, with more than two thousand men, made up of five hundred British regulars, four hundred fifty Canadian militiamen, and more than one thousand First Nations warriors under Tecumseh. In addition, two 24-pounder guns, captured at Detroit, arrived at Fort Meigs on April 12 to support Major Procter.

Fort Meigs commanded the best land route to Detroit and had to be defended at all costs. However, by the time Procter dragged his heavy guns into position, it was early May. General Harrison, concerned with his lack of ammunition, used his batteries sparingly and offered a gill of whiskey to any soldier who retrieved British cannonballs for reuse to supplement his scarce ammunition supply.

Am 30. Juni 2017 stimmte der Deutsche Bundestag über den Gesetzesentwurf zur "Ehe für alle" ab. Von 623 Abgeordneten (7 der eigentlich 630 Bundestagsmitglieder nahmen an der Abstimmung nicht teil) stimmten 393 für und 226 gegen die Verabschiedung des Gesetzes, welches gleichgeschlechtlichen Paaren die Eheschließung ermöglichen sollte. 4 Abgeordnete (allesamt der CDU/CSU-Fraktion angehörig) enthielten sich.

Bis auf die Stimme der fraktionslosen Abgeordneten Erika Steinbach (ursprünglich CDU, seit 2022 Mitglied der AfD) kamen alle Nein-Stimmen aus den Rängen der CDU/CSU-Fraktion, was bei 225 von 309 Abgeordneten bedeutet, dass knapp 73% der Fraktionsmitglieder gegen die "Ehe für alle" stimmten. (Ja-Stimmen gab es von ca. 24%, die Abwesenden und Enthaltungen machten zusammen ca. 3% der CDU/CSU-Stimmen aus.)

Von den 226 Abgeordneten, die damals gegen den Gesetzesentwurf zur "Ehe für alle" stimmten, amtieren zur Zeit 87 als Mitglieder des Bundestags.

Jeux vidéo : catalyseurs sociaux et cognitifs

Les jeux vidéo ne sont plus seulement des divertissements pour les amateurs de technologie. Au cours des dernières années, les chercheurs ont exploré les nombreux bienfaits de cette forme de média, découvrant des aspects qui vont bien au-delà du simple plaisir de jouer. Stimulant cérébral : un entraînement pour l’esprit

Les jeux vidéo ne se contentent pas de divertir, ils sollicitent également le cerveau – notamment les lobes frontal et pariétal ainsi que l’hippocampe – de manière complexe. Les jeux de simulation, de conduite automobile, de musique et de tir peuvent améliorer, entre autres, l’attention, la perception visuelle, la concentration et le temps de réaction. C’est comme un entraînement mental qui doit être pratiqué non pas plusieurs heures par jour, mais plutôt quelques dizaines de minutes au quotidien. Selon le psychologue Shawn Green, « les joueurs qui joueraient plus longtemps aux jeux vidéo atteindraient un plateau », qui stagnerait dans la performance des capacités cognitives.

Cohésion sociale : des connexions au-delà de l’écran

Contrairement à l’idée préconçue selon laquelle les jeux vidéo isolent les individus, de nombreux jeux encouragent la collaboration. Les jeux multijoueurs en ligne, comme Among Us ou encore Animal Crossing: New Horizons, créent des communautés virtuelles où des personnes du monde entier peuvent se connecter, coopérer et construire des amitiés durables. Les années de pandémie et de confinement en sont la preuve irréfutable : le jeu Among Us a réussi à attirer près de 500 millions d’utilisateurs actifs par mois à la fin de l’année 2020, selon les chiffres du site d’analyse de jeux vidéo Stream Charts.

Gestion du stress : une évasion salutaire

La vie quotidienne peut être stressante, mais les jeux vidéo offrent une échappatoire bienvenue. Plonger dans un monde virtuel permet de libérer le stress accumulé, proposant un moyen sain de se détendre et de retrouver un équilibre mental. « Les Québécoises et les Québécois jouent notamment aux jeux vidéo pour les aider à gérer leur stress (75 %), ou encore pour se sentir moins anxieux (62 %) », selon un sondage mené par l’Association canadienne du logiciel de divertissement.
