"woahh, kangsu must've worked hard for those abs." you said, purposefully a bit louder than you had previously been talking to get sangha's attention. his eyes met your face and then drifted down to your computer where you were flipping over the newly released concept photos for nomad's debut. sangha's throat felt a little dry as he watched you zoom in on the photo, carefully studying the stickers on kangsu's torso.
"awww, it's hello kitty!" you smiled– a little too widely for sangha's liking, before you flipped to the next photos. he watched silently as you complimented doeui, junho, and jiwon, patiently waiting for you to flip to his photo and compliment him as well. you eventually did, clicking over to the concept photo with the lollipop.
but, to sangha's disappointment, you only gave a small approving hum before moving onto jiwon's photo. another exaggerated reaction sounded from your mouth, compliments flowing out about the styling, the hair, the pose, even the abs.
all sangha could do was frown.
you had been curious whether purposefully noticing the other members instead of him would get your silent, reserved boyfriend to finally speak up. but you seemed to have underestimated how conflict-averse he was. he wasn't even willing to comment on it, though his eyes didn't leave your face once. it was as if he was silently willing you to stop with his big pout and sad eyes.
"are you okay, baby?" you asked softly, wondering if a little push was all he needed to voice his feelings. but he only shook his head and averted his gaze, his frown deepening even more. you tried to hold back and continue with your teasing, but it was impossible to resist how cute he was being now. you cupped his face and turned it towards you, cooing softly at his pouty expression.
"i was only teasing. i'm sorry, baby." you said, squishing his cheeks slightly between your palms. he looked away from you, now sporting a hurt expression. "don't be like that, sangha." you giggled, "i was only joking."
he huffed, "it's not funny."
your face straightened, realizing it would take a little bit more work to cheer him up from your little stunt. you had never teased him before, and you silently decided that you would never again because now you felt awful. he looked so sad, and knowing you caused it just for your own entertainment made you feel like a bit of an asshole. he didn't deserve it.
"i'm sorry. you looked amazing in the photos too." he only frowned again, his face still between your hands. "i'm serious. you looked really hot. and i'm sorry for pretending to ignore your photos."
he seemed a little happier by that answer, even letting his gaze drift from the floor back to your face. you took the opportunity to give him a kiss, ensuring that he would forget all about the little stunt. everything was always better when you were kissing sangha, and he loved it just as much as you did; always finding opportunities throughout the day to give you little pecks.
"all better?" you asked, giving one last peck to his lips. he just dropped his head onto your shoulder, mumbling to never do that to him again. you giggled, hugging him close to your chest, and promising you wouldn't.

Pairing: Sangha x fem!reader
Word Count: 2.4k (got a lil carried away)
Genre: One sided!enemies x lovers
Warnings: Bashing sangha (sad), there’s only one bed 😱, (i can’t remember any others)
Author’s note: I got bored and wrote something not sure if i should continue it? don’t even know if the story makes sense 😼, Mentions of twice (tzuyu 3)
About: No matter how many times you tell Doy that you hate (deeply dislike) his best friend Sangha he just seems to believe you're the perfect match!
“Doy i mean it seriously stop trying to make it work”
It seemed no matter how much you whined and moaned to Doy about not wanting to be around or even instigate a conversation with his best friend. Sangha he just didn’t want to listen
“C’mon it’s been almost a year and I want my two best friends to be best friends, maybe even more than friends!!”
I give him a stern look knowing that he knows that not only was I not looking for a relationship at the moment but he had to audacity to want me to go on a date with the person he knows that I don’t like and haven’t liked since, well since I could remember
Park Sangha randomly just appeared in my life one day during high school taking over, whether that was becoming the most popular guy in school or becoming my classes president only a month and a half after transferring or just being the most insufferable and cocky person ever to exist. Yet it seemed I was the only person to see his true colours.
“What’s that face for?” Doy questions as if he didn’t just recommend that I date Sangha of all people. “You know why” I reply back “No I actually don’t, since you still won’t tell me what problems you have with him and he just doesn’t seem to know what he could've possibly done to you in high school.”
I thought that after graduating high school I would never see Sangha ever again, I believed that I would be happy and Sangha-free in College only to be mistaken seeing him on campus on the third day. I refused to believe that I saw him chalking it up to a look alike or something like that, only to be mistaken yet once again when he appeared sitting near the back of my business class
After seeing him I just made a mental plan to avoid him as I was starting over from high school and the campus was huge and I only really ever saw him in my business class, in the library or sometimes even in the coffee shops near school, specifically the one closest to my dorm building, I stopped going after seeing a familiar set of black hair working there three months into the school year.
I really believed I could escape him but my plan came crashing down when I became friends with Doy, meeting him by chance in a record store, finding out we had the same interest in music. A friendship quickly sparked between Doy and I and I slowly began to forget that I was trying to ignore a whole other human on campus until…
8 months ago
I was at a small gathering in a random students house that was off campus that Doy had managed to bring me to telling me that he would like to introduce me to his friends as he believed that if I was friends with him I would fit right in with his friends
I met his friends jiwon who was also called One, Kangsu and who was also named Rivr and Junho I thought that that was it until Rivr asked One “Have you heard from Park yet?” about 40 minutes in since meeting them
“Park?” I questioned
“Oh yea sorry we have one more friend coming he’s on his way” Doy replies to my question before a ping comes from his phone signalling that he got a notification. He reads the message before standing from the couch that he was sharing with Junho and I “He just sent me a message, he doesn’t know what house we’re in so i’ll try find him” Doy says before leaving me alone with his friends
“If you could give a name to your favourite kitchen appliance, what would it be?”
I hear Junho ask as I see Doy disappear from my vision, I laugh before beginning to have a conversation with Junho about kitchen appliances
About 10 minutes goes by before I hear a familiar voice belonging to Doy “Finally found him, he was on a whole other street” I let out a little giggle and fix my hair wanting to fix up a little before meeting another one of his friends. I would say I enjoyed the company of his other three friends and I could see me becoming close friends with them the same way I am with Doy, so meeting people like him makes me happy
I smile politely and wait as Doy sits only for my smile to drop quickly. There could be no possible way that he was standing in front of me, the one and only Park Sangha my face bitters as his face lights up “Y/N?? No Way I thought I’ve been seeing you on campus but I didn’t know if it was you or not since you would never react to any greetings- how are you!?” Sangha excitedly asked like we’ve been friends for years or as if we were old buddies
“You know each other?” Rivr quizzes. “We went to the same high school- we were even in the same class” Sangha happily replies to his friend
“Wow Sangha nice to see you too” A fake smile is on my face and my voice is dripping with disinterest not wanting to continue to converse with him. His smile drops a little but it doesn’t fall completely but before he could reply I begin to speak again. “I hate to be a bummer but i’ve to go now tzuyu texted she forgot her key so…” I let them finish the sentence in their heads before Doy speaks up “Don’t you want to catch up with an old friend??”
“Trust me we weren’t friends” I throw out into the air before getting up and leaving before he could respond for the both of us
After that seeing Sangha’s Face was a daily occurrence
˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
Around 2 days had passed since my conversation with Doy happened. I left him unanswered, annoyed that he wouldn’t drop the topic. I was currently sitting in the living room of tzuyu and I’s shared dorm room waiting for tzuyu to bring up our jjajangmyeon we ordered earlier when I get a text from Doy
Tumblr media
Ugh what a douche leaving me on read. Just then my head snaps up as the door is opened and I see tzuyu coming in with our order
“Finally i’ve been craving this all day” she says quickly coming to sit with me on the couch and setting the food out on the the table
“Doy invited me to go to busan with his friends, do you think i should go?”
“Is Sangha going to be there?” she’s questions knowing that i didn’t like him one bit she didn’t even know why but she knew that it had to be a good reason, I told her the second I got back to our shared dorm when I found out Sangha had been friends with Doy all those months ago, she wasn’t even locked out I just wanted to get away from him
“Apparently not, he’s going back home according to Doy”
“Okay then def go Busan is amazing” she smiles widely talking about the city
“Maybe i will then”
˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
I check the time on my phone shivering a little with the cold morning air of Seoul and look up searching to see if I can see a familiar mop of blonde hair in the train station, before looking back down and opening Doy and I’s shared chat spamming him with another few messages warning him the boys and him will miss the train if the don’t make it in the next five minutes
I hear a horn before seeing a familiar black car belonging to Doy
I signal for him to find a parking spot and hurry up knowing he could see me through his dark tinted windows, before the passenger window is rolled down only to see Junho and Doy not looking panicked at all
“What are you doing, park before we miss our train!?” I urgently say, “Did Junho not text you, we’re driving there instead?” I burn holes into junhos head who is sitting in the passenger seat “No he didn’t” I say firmly as I had been stressed for the past thirty minutes about the boys missing the train for no reason, Junho lets out a quiet “my bad, i got distracted deciding which snacks to bring for us all”
“Did you get me sour patch kids at least?” I asked the blue haired boy, “Yep, sitting in my bag.” He points to it sitting between his legs on the floor of the car. “I forgive you then” I happily say walking to the back of the car and opening the trunk and placing my overnight bag in it, i see a figure sitting in the back and assume it’s either One or Rivr and make my way to the drivers side before opening the back door of the car about to ask where the other boy is if it was one of them
Only to see none only that Park Sangha sitting behind the passenger seat
“What the fuck is he doing here?” I question agitated still standing outside with the car door open
“I told you not to lie to her”Junho says in a sing-song voice almost mocking Doy who was sitting in the drivers seat
……………
It was about an hour and a half into the four hour car journey, but it wasn’t that bad, Sangha didn’t attempt to speak to me only giving me a small polite smile after I entered the car which was only because Doy convinced me get in with the bribe that he would buy me anything I wanted from Busan if I just got in the car. The car had been mostly silent only the light tunes of the radio playing quietly in the background.
I’ve been texting tzuyu the whole time before stoping as I felt bad as we both woke up early to help me pack and I was keeping her up further with texting her about my current dilemma
Everything was fine and everyone was minding their business doing their own little thing before i see a hand with a bag of my favourite candy being placed between the drivers and passenger seat coming from junhos hand. But just as i go to reach for it I see another hand coming out of my peripheral vision reach to grab it the same time as me
We both grab it which leads to his hand awkwardly being placed over mine before I rush to pull my hand back, i see junhos head turn “Oh yea sorry forgot you both are weirdly obsessed with sour patch kids” he laughs and teases before ultimately giving the bag to Sangha before bending over again to reach into his bag to pull out another pack and handing that one to me
This ride was going to be the death of me
˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
I let my body stretch as soon as i exit the car, the journey wasn’t that bad and it was nice and calming i just listened to music and looked outside seeing all the beautiful views for majority of the journey, on the way i found out that Rivr and One had taken Rivr’s car that’s why they weren’t with us, they had already checked in and were waiting for us as they left earlier
We all walk into the lobby of the accommodation we got before Doy begins to talk to the old lady receptionist about our rooms, I zone out only zoning back in when the old lady says “And i’m assuming the lovely couple is sharing a room?” she points at Sangha and I while asking and before i could kindly tell her that i would never think of dating the insufferable piece of jerk beside me Sangha says “Yes we are” and with that the old lady hands him the key and begins pushing us towards the small elevator at the end of the hallway I put my finger up to speak but the doors of the elevator shut before i get to
I immediately turn to look beside me and complain “What would you say we were dating?!?” he begins apologising “I’m sorry i don’t know why i did that- i just” he sighs “She reminded me so much of my grandma and i guess my brain just automatically went to respond yes immediately”
“I’m going back down to get a new room” but before i get a chance to press the level 0 button I feel a hand grab my wrist, I turn and give him a stern look before he apologies again and drops my hand.
………
I enter the room first and immediately notice there’s only one bed other then that it wasn’t that bad the bathroom looked decent as I saw it when entering fully into the room “There’s only one bed?” Sangha says “You don’t say!?” I say my voice dripping with sarcasm
“I’m seriously sorry i don’t know why i said we were dating”
“I’m going back down to get a new room” I begin walking to exist the room but before I can i’m trapped between the wall and Sangha “Move” I say shocked that he abruptly did this
“I’m sorry i just- i can’t let you go”
I stare at him confusingly “Move before I..” I blank before saying anything that comes to my mind “…before I..I- I don’t know but it won’t be good!!”
“I’m sorry but i can’t move..”
“Sangha let me go, what’s your deal-“
I’m cut off by an abrupt kiss to my lips, my eyes widen with surprise and my body freezes stunned that this was really happening. I stare with winded eyes before i realise what’s happening and before i could think it through my hand raises and within the next few seconds Sangha’s whole head has turned from the slap I have just given him
I gasp in shock at my own action and begin talking “I- I, I’m sorry? i think I don’t know, Why would you just-“ i’m flustered and stuttering through my words before i hear a light chuckle coming from the man that still had me pressed up against the wall
“Are you sorry or not?” Sangha teases
To be continued?

Dharmachakra
“Dharma” encompasses both the cosmic law and order and the teachings of the Buddha. It encompasses laws, duties, rights, conduct, virtues, and ‘the right way of living.’
In Hinduism, dharma is seen as a cosmic law that sustains the order of the universe, and each person’s duty according to their age, caste, and station in life.
In Buddhism, dharma refers to the teachings of the Buddha, as well as the truth about the way things are.
It is about understanding the nature of reality and living in a way that aligns with this understanding, particularly through practices that cultivate insight, compassion, and wisdom.
As the central truth within Buddhist practice, Dharma provides the pathway to enlightenment and liberation from the suffering intrinsic to human existence.
First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma The “First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma” marks a pivotal moment in Buddhist history.
This event took place at the Deer Park in Sarnath, where the Buddha delivered his first sermon after achieving enlightenment.
He introduced the Four Noble Truths, outlining the existence of suffering, its causes, its cessation, and the path leading to its cessation—namely, the Noble Eightfold Path.
This initial dissemination of Buddha’s teachings set the wheel of dharma in motion initiating a profound shift in understanding and beginning the spread of Buddhism.
Second Turning of the Wheel of Dharma The “Second Turning of the Wheel of Dharma” is associated primarily with the Mahayana tradition and took place at Vulture Peak.
During this phase, Buddha emphasized the concept of emptiness and the universal potential for Buddha-nature inherent in all beings.
This turning expanded on the original teachings to include deeper philosophical insights into the nature of reality and existence, suggesting that all phenomena are devoid of inherent existence and interconnected through emptiness.
Third Turning of the Wheel of Dharma In the “Third Turning of the Wheel of Dharma,” Buddha addressed the nature of consciousness and reality.
This turning, which includes texts such as the Lankavatara Sutra, focuses on the intrinsic awareness or “tathagatagarbha,” which posits that all sentient beings have the seed of Buddhahood.
This phase of the teachings offers a more nuanced understanding of mind and perception, aimed at deepening the spiritual practice and understanding of his followers.
The Hub The hub of the Dharma Wheel symbolizes various core aspects of Buddhist teachings, depending on the specific interpretation.
Here are a few common interpretations of what the hub represents:
The Three Jewels: The hub is sometimes said to represent the Three Jewels or Three Treasures of Buddhism—Buddha (the enlightened one), Dharma (the teachings), and Sangha (the community). These are the three cornerstones of Buddhist practice that followers take refuge in and look towards for guidance on the spiritual path.
Moral Discipline: The hub can also symbolize the moral discipline required to practice the teachings represented by the spokes. This includes ethical behavior, mental discipline, and the wisdom necessary to understand and implement the Buddha’s teachings effectively.
Stability and Balance: On a more abstract level, the hub is seen as the axis of the wheel, providing stability and balance. It represents the steadiness and equilibrium needed in one’s practice to stay focused on the path to enlightenment.
The Spokes Eight spokes: This is the most common depiction, representing the Noble Eightfold Path, which includes Right Understanding, Right Thought, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Concentration.
Ten spokes: These symbolize the ten directions (the eight cardinal and intercardinal directions, plus up and down), representing the Buddha’s teachings spreading to every part of the universe.
Twelve spokes: This represents the Twelve Links of Dependent Origination, a fundamental concept in Buddhism that explains the chain of causation leading to suffering.
Twenty-four spokes: This extends the twelve to include both the arising and cessation of each link, illustrating the process of entering into and liberation from the cycle of samsara (rebirth).
Thirty-one spokes: This reflects ancient Buddhist cosmology, which describes 31 planes of existence that beings can be reborn into, based on their karma.
Four spokes: This rare form can represent either the Four Noble Truths—the core of Buddha’s teachings—or the four stages of dhyana (meditative absorption), which describe progressive stages of deepening concentration.
The Rim The rim of the wheel, which holds the spokes together, signifies the element of concentration (samadhi) that is necessary to maintain the mindfulness taught by each spoke.
This illustrates the unity and interdependence of the teachings, suggesting that each aspect of the path is necessary and supported by the others.

Dzanga Bai Elephant Enclave There are many ways that living creatures shape, color, and transform the Earth. Phytoplankton can paint the ocean with color when they multiply in prodigious blooms. Insect infestations can deplete or destroy forest cover. Beavers build dams that flood wetlands and sometimes create small lakes. And humans leave their fingerprints all over the planet. Amid the rainforests in the Central African Republic, there is a place where forest elephants have carved out a niche that is clearly visible from space. Known as Dzanga Bai, this swampy clearing attracts tens to hundreds of these massive herbivores every day. Unique to the Congo Basin, bais are sandy and muddy open patches of forest that are pockmarked with puddles, streams, and watering holes full of mineral-rich water. Dzanga Bai is believed to have been cleared and maintained by African forest elephants that trample or eat much of the vegetation in this spot. The waters there are rich in minerals and salts that the elephants need but cannot obtain from rainforest vegetation. The minerals originate from an intrusion of volcanic rock (dolerite) not far below the land surface. According to research led by biologist Andrea Turkalo of the Wildlife Conservation Society, anywhere from 50 to 150 forest elephants arrive at the bai each day, with several thousand living in the surrounding area. Using their feet, they dig holes in the surface down to the mineral-rich water in the substrate; sometimes they use their trunks to work their way through surface water to obtain minerals. The Operational Land Imager (OLI) on Landsat 8 acquired these natural-color images of Dzanga Bai, the village of Bayanga, and the wider protected areas on March 28, 2021. For scale, Dzanga Bai is estimated to be about 500 meters (1,600 feet) long. The wider region is dominated by rainforest that is interspersed with streams, marshlands, and the bais. It all sits within the Congo Basin, the second largest rainforest in the world. At this intersection between the Central African Republic, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, governments and conservation groups have been working since 1990 to protect forestlands in a 17,000 square kilometer area called the Sangha River Trinational. UNESCO has declared the area—including Lobéké National Park (Cameroon), Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park (Republic of Congo), and Dzanga-Ndoki National Park (the Central African Republic), and the Dzangha Sangha Special Reserve (CAR)—to be a World Heritage Site. Turkalo spent more than 25 years living and working in Dzanga-Ndoki National Park, producing a comprehensive natural history and demographic catalog of more than 1,600 known forest elephants at the bai. She found that male elephants have a lower survival rate, most likely due to hunting by humans looking to harvest ivory and bushmeat. Her long-term observations also revealed that forest elephants reproduce slower than the savannah species. In an earlier study (Turkalo was a contributor), researchers estimated that the number of forest elephants in the Congo Basin declined by 62 percent between 2002 and 2011. The species lost about 30 percent of its geographic range, and the population was estimated to be less than 10 percent of its potential size. The elephants are not only threatened by poachers, but also by deforestation for logging and farming, and perhaps by exposure to disease from human contact. Besides forest elephants, the region includes important habitat for the western lowland gorilla, the bongo (forest antelope), sitatunga (swamp antelope), forest buffalo, chimpanzees, and many species of birds. Indigenous Ba’Aka and Sangha Sangha people have lived in the area for thousands of years, using their knowledge of plants and traditional fishing techniques to sustain a culture in the rainforest. NASA Earth Observatory images by Lauren Dauphin, using Landsat data from the U.S. Geological Survey and data from OpenStreetMap. Story by Michael Carlowicz.

How often is it that we do the right thing, but due to pride, self-righteousness, or for gain, rather than doing it with pure motives? Do we drive a Prius because it’s better for the environment than a 1956 Rambler, or because we want to show how environmentally conscious we are to all who behold us? Is our accumulation of merit and kudos part of our motivation?
Conversely, do we judge others who don’t live up to our expectation of righteousness? Do we scoff at the person who doesn’t return their shopping cart to the place where shopping carts are collected, without knowing what the reason for that may be? And do we secretly drive the Rambler and leave the shopping cart in the parking to when no one’s looking?
The Buddha said, “A Bodhisattva should practice virtue without regard to appearances, unsupported by sights, sounds, smells, tastes, tactile sensations or mental attachments. A Bodhisattva should practice virtue without attachment to externals. Why? This is the way to being a Buddha….A Bodhisattva should practice virtue in this way for the welfare of all beings.”
Driving a Prius may indeed be a more environmentally meritorious choice than the Rambler. For animals, vegan, organic spaghetti and “meat” balls may be a more compassionate choice than Chef Boyardee. Putting a shopping cart back to where shopping carts are collected may be the more meritorious choice, but equally meritorious would be leaving it in the parking lot because someone earns a living by collecting them and returning it to where shopping carts are collected. Either of those choices is superior to leaving the cart in the parking lot out of self-conscious laziness.
There is positive, negative, and neutral karma. Actions are meritorious and non-meritorious. There is practice with no gaining notion, practice for the big payoff of enlightenment, and practice because we want to show other sangha members how pious we are, puffing ourselves up to show our non-existent spiritual achievements. And there’s just practice..”A bodhisattva practices virtue without regard to externals,” without the thought of a payoff, without the thought of gaining merit. The bodhisattva should do the virtuous thing without even thinking of themselves as a bodhisattva, or that they are saving all beings when performing this act. And the merit is not accumulated by the individual who performed the act, but is shared by all sentient beings, like the ripples in a pond flowing outward from one stone being thrown in.
When Bodhidharma met Emperor Wu, the emperor listed the all the things he performed to support Buddhism, temples, and monks, and how generous he was. He them asked Bodhidharma how much merit he had accrued by doing all there wonderful acts. Bodhidharma replied, “no merit whatsoever.” Had the emperor done these acts without thinking how wonderful they were, had he not assumed he would gain merit, or at least some validation from this Indian monk who’d come from the west, then there might have been some merit. The ripples of his actions undoubtedly improved the lives of the monks who benefitted from these actions. But once the emperor had the thought of just how meritorious his actions were, he was no longer thinking of them as “we” actions, but “I” actions. Just like when we drive the Prius to show how good we really are.

THERAPIST CHAPTER 6
Hyunseo was a cool grandmother , but there were times she wasnt cool. she sits at the dining table upset after fighting with her granddaughter over lunch. Sangha had refused to eat her lunch , and upon investigating Hyunseo finds her seated on the floor of her room with five different eyeshadow palettes around her. she lifts a small pink coloured hand mirror close to her face. her mouth falls open like a goldfish as she swipes the eyeliner on her eyelid. Sangha lowers the mirror down frustrated at the tail of the stroke for the fifth time.
Sangha reaches for a damp tissue, well aware that Hyunseo was standing at the door , " I'm not , I'm not going to eat until i get this done ", she declares determined to finish her makeup.
despite being on a semester break for two weeks  , there was no change in Sangha's behaviour. she had no urge to spend it on a vacation , she slept late till the afternoon pruning about some invisible pressure on her shoulder about being an influencer online , she refused to walk out of her room. Sangha helped Hyunseo cook for the first three days of her vacation , all three meals breakfast , lunch and dinner. Hyunseo was furious that Sangha hadn't stepped into the kitchen for the past ten days ever since then.
" Park Sangha , I'm going to confiscate your makeup brushes if you don't come to the dining table right now! "
Sangha does not budge. she lifts the mirror close to her face holding her black liner steady on her now cleaned eyelid.
Hyunseo walks back to the kitchen and pulls the dining chair out upset and takes a seat to resume peeling radishes. she picks a half peeled snow white radish and runs the sharp peeler on the skin while occasionally glancing at Sangha's room. a few minutes pass in silence.
Sangha loses her focus and drops her liner. it drops on the floor and rolls down towards the door. she panics pushing the makeup palettes aside and crawls towards the liner. she extends her hand to reach for it. she sighs as her fingers curl around the liner.  she slowly collapses on the ground exhausted. she turns her body around to lay supine and tears resurface her eyes.  makeup was fading away from her life as she was healing on her own. she no longer found pleasure in it , she had lost her magical hands despite doing it for months to cope with her depression. It was extremely uncomfortable for her to come out of her sadness because there was a part of her associated with it , it felt uncomfortable to let go of that vulnerable part of her.  It made her skin prick , her stomach repulsed at the unfamiliar peace in her life. she wanted the hostile chaos back in her life.
Hyunseo had imagined the worst if she chose to react with anger. she drops the radishes and peeler on the chopping board observing her granddaughter with concern. she could have scolded her if she wanted to , or forced Sangha to eat , but she knew deep down inside her heart that she didn't want to become someone Sangha was grieving about all her life. her parents. she had to be gentle with her granddaughter.
The next morning she finds Sangha sitting at the dining table slurping on cold noodles with her phone raised infront of her. Hyunseo walks towards the dining table with no particular expression on her face. she finds a yellow post it folded in half and mounted on the table next to a bowl of extravagantly plated noodles. she glances the note on the paper.
'sorry . i love you'
Hyunseo's lips lift for a faint smile as she pulls the dining chair to take a seat infront of her. the meal looked exceptional. Sangha was more than just an excellent cook , she was a visual pleaser , she excelled in plating. it was a simple meal topped with thinly julienned cucumbers and carrots in the middle , a generous piece of kimchi sprinkled with mixed sesame seeds. before indulging into her restaurant quality meal , she hears a meek voice.
"say it back" , Sangha begins.
"say it back, that you love me too" , she insists , indeed guilty about ignoring her yesterday.
"You'll have to do one thing for thing for that" , Hyunseo rests her elbows on the table , her smile remains lifted on her face.
the front door bell rings. she raises up from the chair to walk towards the door with a wider , more enthusiastic smile. Sangha found her behavior odd but still anticipates a free pass for that one thing that would make her say i love you back. how hard could it be? perhaps it was doing the laundry for the whole week or her helping with the chores for the rest of her summer break , she was fine with either as long as she could get back to doing makeup again at the end of the day. she sighs turning her head towards the visitor who accompanies Hyunseo inside.
Sangha gasps raising up from her seat shocked.
he was such a regular at her house but he looked different every single time. his thin pink lips curve for a large smile , his sugary dimples appear on his plump cloud cheek. his bangs were long grown , dyed black and swooped to curtain his dreamy eyes. his smile was enough to light Sangha's pitch dark world.
"You?!" , she stares at him furiously.
" Hiiii , Sangha! " ,Taehyun stretches his arm out waving just his hand to greet her. his gaze is so gentle on her , it makes her look away immediately.
Hyunseo pats the boy's back as she stands next him, "Taehyun is here to take you out on a date"
"what??"
Taehyun nods as he approaches her with a smile , "will you join me , Sangha? "
Her heart combusts.
a/n : i spent an unhealthy amount of time with my crush today , i miss him , i love him so much , it hurts. i love him , i love him so much , it h u r t s.

We’re playing on different senses of the word homeless. There is the traditional Buddhist sense in which it is proposed with a positive meaning—”the homeless brothers and sisters”—and is taken to mean those who have entered into the monastic sangha, or community. Homelessness in that context means leaving the ordinary bonds and obligations of caste, kin and society, and entering into another context of obligations and associations, which is the work with the dharma. So that kind of homelessness means stepping outside of the usual obligations of your society. Another sense of the term homelessness is the larger metaphor of being “unplaced”—without a place. It’s my sense that Americans are more displaced, more homeless, than they realize. They live in that condition without being conscious of it, and yet it profoundly affects their psychological and social life. One effect is that nobody lives in one place long enough to take a serious interest in local politics or local community. That’s why we have such a low turnout at elections. If people lived in a place long enough to feel a sense of obligation and commitment to it, like a marriage, then even if they didn’t believe in national scale politics, they would sure as hell know that local scale politics accomplishes something. That’s at a simple level, but it resonates through the school system and the kind of ecological work that can only be done by local people. That’s essential, because the Sierra Club is not going to come and save your local marsh from a Safeway supermarket parking lot. You’ve got to do it yourself or nobody will.

The Good Spiritual Friend
[I’m going through my old drafts. This was from May 2016.]
“The practitioners who do not understand continue to be caught in words and phrases and obstructed by terms such as holy, profane, etc., so that they cannot open their wisdom eyes and therefore cannot see the real nature of things clearly. The Twelve Divisions of the teachings were only devised to show clearly that real nature. Practitioners who do not understand bend in the direction of words, mistakenly searching for insight therein. That attitude of seeking a place to hold to and rely on, makes us fall into the cycle of cause and effect and prevents us from leaving the cycle of birth and death in the three realms.
“If you wish to roam in birth and death as a free person, you should recognize who it is who is listening to the Dharma here. Although that person has no form, no distinguishing sign, no basis, no origin, and no place of abode, he is living, infinitely active, and able to display tens of thousands of wonderful functions, and all those functions have the nature of non-abiding.
“On the other hand, the more you look for something, the farther away you are from it, the more you are off the mark. This is called the wonderful mystery.
“My friends, do not identify yourselves with this illusory friend, the body, because sooner or later it has to be returned to the hands of the demon impermanenoe. In this world, what is it you need to turn toward in order to find liberation? All you need is a bowl of brown rice, a mantle of cloth, and apart from this you should give all your psychological force and time to find the good spiritual friend. Do not waste your days and hours following various pleasures. Time is precious, life is impermanent, the four great elements (mahabhuta) and the four signs (birth, abiding, changing, ceasing) are driving you on.You must recognize right away the signless nature of these four so as not to be pulled around by your surroundings.”
- excerpted from Record 15 of Master Linji, as translated by Thich Nhat Hanh, Zen Battles
A little over three weeks ago my best friend succumbed to the renal cell cancer against which she’d been fighting for three years.  Her death came suddenly, caught me unawares.  And yet was completely expected--in fact, overdue, statistically speaking.
For the past three weeks I’ve been trying to characterize in my own mind the nature of my relationship with Zanne.  I’ve come up with terms like:  “Best Friend”, “Pal”, “My Person”, “My Other Self”.  All of these are accurate, but I think the best description is, “My Good Spiritual Friend”.
Zanne encouraged me to start the “baby sangha” in my home.  Many years ago, standing in the parking area outside of the Bikram studio, sweaty after the morning class, she mentioned that she used to have a friend that she would practice [meditation] with but hasn’t had that in a while.  I needed no more than that nudge to encourage the seed that was already forming in me to start our sangha.
Our friendship grew slowly, steadily over the years, neither of us in any particular hurry.  Zanne was like a talking mirror, helping me see the good things in myself that I never allowed myself to acknowledge.  She would also be there to course-correct me in her southern-gentility-imbued way--indirect yet unmistakable. She was my confidant and cheerleader, and I was hers.
All of our friends are Good Spiritual Friends, if we see with clarity.  But some are effortless. For me, those ones don’t come along every day--the ones who get me, and whom I get so effortlessly.
As I sit down to complete this post, several years later, I realize that that the effortlessness comes from the ease borne of authenticity. Artifice is taxing; personas are exhausting. I don’t know what alchemy it is that allows free authenticity between two people, but it’s pure joy. Authenticity....resting easy in yourself, resting easy in the Way.
May we all have many Good Spiritual Friends.
And thank you, Zanne, for being my Good Spiritual Friend.
