Virtual Sketchbook 1: Art and Writing

about this art, My grandpa passed away Jan, 8, 2021. My daughter was due to be born Feb. 22, 21.

The day I told him I was expecting to the day he was passing he talked about his number 12th great grandchild and his wife (my grandma). It hurt that she wasn’t able to meet him and learn from him like all of us great and grandkids did. My boyfriend heard stories of him and how badly I wanted them to meet. He found a website paintyourlife, and with my moms helped they used photos to send it in to the artist. it was given to me on Christmas. I believe Hedy is an oil painting and i'm not sure what kind of paint they used on my grandpa. It serves memories and emotions and this canvas painting of my daughter Hedy meeting her Great Grandpa Doug for the 1st time, I will always cherish it. She talks to the painting and touches his face every time she sees the painting. I think its beyond beautiful.

Vernici. Ormai lo sapete. Amo le vernici. Sto sistemando vasi e barattoli, colori, cere e finiture. Ho in mente una serie di mobili da restaurare e colorare. E se dico “serie” credetemi sulla parola! La scelta è sempre complessa. Seppur non definitivo un colore, lo si porta con se per un buon numero di anni. Quindi sono sempre molto dubbiosa, cambio idea parecchie volte prima di arrivare al l’innamoramento. Sono anche combattuta tra ciò che mi piace nel contesto in cui va inserito e il “come dovrebbe essere fatto”. In questi anni di rimaneggiamenti della mia casa e di trasformazioni ho interiorizzato un concetto. Non esiste un mobile “che stia bene così”. Spesso accade che venga chiesto ad esempio “di che colore lo faccio?” . Risposta: “lascialo così”. Con il “lascialo così” che dicevo a me stessa, ho trattenuto in taverna per 10 anni, il comó della mia trisavola. Lo stesso che avevo restaurato anni prima, donando un rinnovato vigore, in modo conservativo, con finiture reversibili tra colle di coniglio, olio di lino e mordenti, dopo un corso di restauro che aveva frequentato il Lusu e che mi aveva “raccontato”. Lui faceva i corsi e io restauravo. Nel timore di denaturalo, perché originariamente “era così” l’ho lasciato al disuso. Poi in un raptus d’autunno ho reagito a questa regola - chi l’ha inventata?- il lascialo così - e l’ho trasformato in “Amanda fallo come ti piace,adesso”. Ho deciso che lo avrei voluto in camera, nella vecchia casa era lì e ancor prima nella camera della casa di campagna, da marrone a bianco, uniforme, senza sbavature. Bianco. Quello che in questa fase della vita mi “somiglia”. “Lo hai rovinato!” ha tuonato qualcuno. Per il suo gusto, o per la “regola restauratrice” ma non per il mio piacere, io lo amo e questo mi basta. Ai posteri lascio lo sverniciatore . Che dite sbaglio?
