Important notice: 3700 years from today, Kohaku is born !
Literally on the edge of my seat, amirite?
Kohaku was born on August 8th 5723, a bit less than two and a half years after her older sister, Ruri, whom she would end up caring for as she became ill at a young age.
She was the first person born after the fall of civilization to join Senku's kingdom of science, when she was 15 years old.
She remained by the core of the kingdom of science throughout the years long quest to find and defeat the forces of petrification, also becoming the first woman to walk on the moon (in Dr. Stone canon, needless to say) in October 5754.
I was gonna do art for this but the last neurons that managed my sense of time have finally rotted away, and so her birthday caught up on me, hence I am doing this little retrospective instead.
Although I acknowledge that Kohaku only exists because they needed someone to keep Senku alive once Taiju got put in the figurative bus, and a pretty girl to put on the cover page after Yuzu left with him, I will keep pointing out how mutifaceted she turns out to be, likely as a result of just the sheer extent of her presence in the series. I could ramble about that for ages but you can just read the wiki for that.
Now I pull a Sam O' Nella and say, I'll see you in two months!

Ruh roh, scoob! Danny seems to be angsting pretty hard this chapter! And what's that weapon his parents made? I bet it will have no plot relevance later! Meanwhile, Mark is having fun joyriding on his tricked-out Mars rover. We love that for him!
This is a crossover between Danny Phantom x The Martian. You do NOT have to have read/watched The Martian to understand this fic. Tbh I wrote it thinking that only a few people have read this book forgetting that it had a massive online cult-like following back in the day. I didn't grow up online, clearly

Summary: When Astronaut Mark Watney went to Mars, he knew there was a chance he'd never come home. Now, though, he's determined to last long enough for NASA to save him because this whole dying for science thing is not as fun as it sounds.
Meanwhile, Danny Fenton is just trying to keep his identity a secret amidst a potential crisis with his powers. Seriously, what's up with that weird current under his skin? Why is he having so much trouble controlling it? And why does it feel so familiar...?
In a fit of determination (and possible stupidity), Danny goes to Mars to save Watney, only to add to both their crises when he arrives and can't get home. Will NASA save them? Will Danny have a home to return to if they do?

Danny blinked, the words struggling to process in his mind.
The first thing he thought was, who the hell is Mark Watney and why is he on the front page of every website, headline, and social media app?
And then, after an embarrassing couple of seconds, he remembered. Mark Watney. The Ares 3 guy. The astronaut who died on Mars back in November.
That Mark Watney.
And then it took another few seconds for his brain to get it. Truly get it. Because Mark had died on Mars except he didn't die which meant.
“Holy shit.” Danny threw his bag down and flew to the couch. “He's still on Mars!”

If you go to page 5723 of Homestuck on homestuck.com, you’ll find that this joke has been altered. Now Jane is feeling PEACHY!
This joke was apparently quite controversial when it came out (I was not yet in the fandom at this point). It’s obviously treading on sensitive ground, but I thought the execution of it made it pretty clear that it was poking fun at the sort of people who were really insistent that the HS kids are white.
Back in the early 2010s, there was a pretty common sentiment that people should only cosplay inside their race, with the exception that white people could cosplay light skinned anime characters. I remember this coming up in my high schools cosplay club in 2011. There was also an overlapping and fairly widespread “white as default” mentality about characters, where characters are white unless explicitly stated otherwise. As you can imagine, this had the effect of making it harder for nonwhite fans to cosplay (how many black anime characters are there, after all?). However, since the Homestuck kids are not explicitly white, there were fandom arguments about this. There was one Jake cosplayer that was apparently pretty explicit in his(?) opinion that nonwhite cosplays of the HS characters were inaccurate, although I don’t know the timeline for when that was happening and whether this Jake yelling no might have been seen as a parody of this person.
This whole shitstorm blew through before I entered the fandom. When I read it for the first time, it said ‘peachy’, and i only learned about this like a year later.

Day 178: Wednesday/Thursday June 28, 2018 - “Lease Up 5723”
Mixing June styled work days with packing up, and running webinars and moving out. Lease is up, but the work never stops. Big wins would include scoring another June webinar, surrounded with packing boxes, taking apart our ikea bed, and a completely Symp themed moving out party! Singing for my supper. Hard days - packing isnt easy - packing while working is even more hard. This is the biggest burliest move since leaving Bellingham 5 years ago - if only we had Luke here to help!!! This apartment was nowhere near as nice as that one - but it sure was a functional home - and one we’ll remember, of our two full years living in Mile High. The cliche line is that it flew by....but it really didnt. Seems like a forever ago that we’ve moved in here. Suppose thats maybe my itinerant time warp. We sure did clutter it up since those first few months on an air mattress with no furniture in this high ceilinging 3rd floor perch over the Parking Spot. We sure will miss the spotty dottys - but with a deep sigh, and a little impatience, we’re getting ourselves up out of here and back to AZ.

Day 69: Saturday March 10, 2018 - “5723″
AC has been working so hard the last 6 weeks that even when shes home, its hard for our plans and hopes to line up. After a full days work, she pulled into 5723 ready to crash and to find me, a hard week in the books, ready to weekend. Audible. Audible. I put so much pressure onto Saturdays and get so easily let down, but I got to credit my partner, who for her this is more like coming in sideway at midnight on a Monday night. There will be a time when we sync back up and get back into our groove - and hopefully soon...but its nice to know and to feel the pull of wanting to be with her more than I want to be on the road - - even when Id so set my heart onto it with visions of Moab and sandstone and open roads...... I suppose its the reflection of the truth around “if ever there was someone to keep me at home, it would be you” Instead of a stellar roadtrip - I never even left the house. And I guess thats exactly what we needed for this page.
