Lucas Rants about Lucas

i get so bored with lucas in series 7-8 (bless his heart, he cant help it) but every time vaughn shows up at the end of series 9 episode 1 i go 100% fully feral because thats actually when his character gets interesting. I could rant about the entire two minutes of their conversation (i won’t though. not yet.) but for now i just wanna focus on that look when vaughn asks what’s it like being lucas north? like you can just tell the fucker i’m writing knows he’s in deep shit. I think he knew it from the first moment he saw him (he tells him to stay away after all) but I think it starts to tickle in the back of his mind that oh god things are bad because (as lottie pointed out when we were discussing it) that’s a very passive aggressive comment vaughn makes. he’s sort of testing the walls, testing lucas’ reaction. and lucas fails because while he tries to maintain that facade of a man who doesnt give a fuck (which he failed because we can all see him react) when vaughn says good to see you, john... lucas is not confused. that is not an expression of a man who is like ‘omg where am i? why did you call me john?’ thats a man that knows he done fucked up and its gonna come back out because vaughn obviously wants something from him. 

i have to give the fandom the benefit of the doubt and assume that a lot of people take this idea of lucas not knowing/remembering his past as john on this weird out of context quote that floats around from richard where he says something about ‘john bateman really starts to emerge’ ... Its not an actual person?? this is not a short novel by robert louis stevenson. John Bateman doesn’t (in my opinion. I mean, i guess people can veer whatever direction they want) have anything like DID or something. and trauma amnesia doesnt make sense to me either because he KNOWS. he’s not confused. But anyways i think its a popular fandom idea to polarize lucas and john into these two different people and idk if its because people have never tried to manipulate others before (hi. nice to meet you.) or what but you’re not two different people. there’s not a what you are vs a what you’re trying to be and they arent constantly fighting for dominance. in my opinion, the john bateman starts to come out is more like .. what is the use of his role he’s playing? there isn’t one. He’s gotta go back to those instincts and reactions and behaviors that got him to the point hes at in the first place. He unravels because he’s losing his mind because (like i’ve preached since day one), the chess pieces are completely upending themselves suddenly on his carefully planned out board.

i think i’m triggered by the excuses people try to make because i want to support and be like oh yeah yalls theories are valid .. but honestly, fanon is not canon. and it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth because its like the idea is to have him be a good guy and he’s not and there’s nothing wrong with that. it doesn’t have to be good or bad but i just don’t ever get why it seems to be a thing where people want to make excuses or reasons that their white boy faves arent out there doing shit things. why fanon. why. he is a terrorist.

GalaxyCon

I should probably post about GalaxyCon before I forget everything, huh? 

My first day was Saturday and I. Was not prepared. Most of the cons I’ve attended are fandom-specific, and can draw large crowds, but nothing compared to this. According to a news article the next day, there were some 50,000 attendees.

I’d originally only planned to go Saturday, but then Colin’s panel was announced for Sunday, so I got another ticket for then. Saturday was spent beating my way through the crowds (or, more accurate, being beaten) - and getting my photo op with Colin.

It’s been four years since I’d last seen him at Enchanted 2, and damn, he looked amazing. The op was brief, because they do thousands of photos in one day, so I barely had time to do more than say ‘hi’ and ‘thank you.’ He thanked me for coming, and at that point I remembered just how blue his eyes were, and how lovely that Irish brogue is, since it’s currently very thick after being in Ireland for so long. Yup, I still swoon for Colin.

I didn’t get an autograph, but a friend did, and I hung around in line with her until were almost to Colin. His line was so long, it wrapped into the next aisle. I’m not sure the staff anticipated his popularity. And while I was in line, someone told Colin how long his line was, and he gave a little “Yeah!” and put up his arms.

Then we have the Sunday panel. I’m trying to remember as much as I can, but I know I’ll miss things. I’ll put it under a cut, since this is starting to run long.

First of all, kudos to the panel moderator, who helped rephrase questions and guide Colin so he could follow strike rules. That can’t have been easy, so good on GalaxyCon for being prepared and still being able to give us a great panel experience.

Colin was introduced as that actor from That Show, and That Other Show, and That One Movie, etc. At some point, OUAT became ‘The Thing,’ and now I want to embrace that as the show’s alternate title. Also, that would be an awesome crossover.

Anyway... We got a brief introduction, and Colin talked about how hot it was (it had been well over 90 degrees, with a Real Feel of over a hundred, on the day he arrived) and how he’d chosen to wear a suit jacket over his t-shirt and had Regrets.

He apologized for if he was difficult to understand, because he knew how thick his accent was, but someone yelled out they loved it, which he then said was why he brought it up, because he wanted people to say that.

He also said he was doing the panel because he liked having people tell him how great he was, to which the moderator had the entire crowd yell out, “You’re great!”

Then we got to the most bizarre mix of questions I’ve ever heard, and it was wonderful. Things we learned included:

- Colin owns 30 guitars, one of which belonged to Ringo Starr. He has another one that belonged to someone famous, but I can’t remember whom

- If he were a dog breed, he’d be a black Labrador retriever mix

- If he were a comic book superhero (the comic part is very important) he’d want to be Batman. He wanted to be Superman once, but now he wants to be Batman. He earned a blue candy for this, which he promptly put in his mouth with predictable results. Dude, don’t eat candy when you know you’re gonna have questions, LOL.

- Voice acting roles aren’t taboo, so he talked a bit about how different it was to voice Douxie, and how different it was to do dialogue in a booth because he had to be more dynamic rather than speak normally. He also at one point did a bit of Gerry the Leprechaun for us.

- Colin was asked about his feelings on ‘Rise of the Titans.’ He said he enjoyed it, then said he trusted the writers to know what’s best for the characters. I’m not sure if that’s how he really felt, or if he’s just being careful.

- If he were two scoops of ice cream, he’d be pistachio and vanilla - the real vanilla, with the bean.

- He likes pineapple on pizza. He will accept no criticism of this.

- If that one character with the thing on his hand had a dog breed, it would be a black Labrador retriever mix.

- Something he did for The Thing was play INXS’s ‘Need You Tonight’ and did a little strut while wearing the coat. Colin demonstrated. I died.

- When asked what comic villain he would want to be, he said the Joker. This earned him a green candy. He ate it, though he also said he didn’t care for the candy. Colin, why.

- If he could have one mythical creature as a pet, it would be Cerberus. But the heads would be black Labrador retriever mixes. I’m starting to think Colin really loves his dog.

- At one point, Colin said he was having a lot of trouble with this, and that he was worried he’d say the wrong thing. The panel mod assured him that he was doing well. I felt bad for him, because yeah, this can’t have been easy.

- Colin was asked what his most ridiculous phobia is. Colin answered that he fears NOTHING. Except panels.

- When asked if he still talks to people from The Thing, he said a very firm but teasing NO - then proceeded to list a number of people that he does, in fact, talk to.

- Then there’s the beard... at the end of the panel, he said he can’t talk about it, but there’s a reason he has the ‘stupid beard.’ He really doesn’t like it, and it’s kind of hilarious that thanks to the strike, he’s kinda stuck with it for an indeterminate period of time.

Comfort piece of media (movie, show, book, etc) and why?

Oooooh interesting ask!

All of my comfort medias have helped me get through different school levels.

I technically don’t have a comfort movie but my top 2 are

1.) The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep - the story of a little boy befriending the Loch Ness Monster, it’s super adorable

2.) Up - As sad as the opening of this movie is, I just love the story. Doug and Kevin are my favorite characters but special shout out to Russel and Carl.

My comfort tv shows:

1.) Once Upon A Time - I often call this show my “soulmate show” and I know a lot of people even the fans, criticize the writing, this show means so much to me. I was a huge Disney fan as a kid, so to see these characters in a more modern story got me intrigued. LITERALLY when I first saw the trailer in a MOVIE THEATER, I got chills. I was instantly drawn to the show and started it back in middle school. It got me through high school. It’s the show I turn to the most when I’m anxious or stressed.I know a lot of the episodes by heart and I’m not sorry about it. My biggest comfort character and OTP come from this series: Emma Swan, and Captain Swan. I felt like I related to Emma on a very personal level, even if I didn’t share every experience she had. This show taught me about hope and optimism even in the most difficult circumstances. It taught me that True Love isn’t just “love at first sight.” In fact, it gave me the standards I have for how a Significant Other should treat me (so I have a pretty high standard). I can listen to the OST of this show and remember the scenes some of the songs played over, I also end up tearing up because of it. I don’t think there will be another show (I’m sorry PJO tv show, I still love you) that will hold my heart (HA) and soul as much as OUAT will, even the cast themselves were special to me. I remember seeing their interactions and interviews in the San Diego Comic Cons as well as the bloopers on the dvd versions of the series and I felt like they were a little family. I will rewatch it a billion times and never get tired of it. The finale still makes me break down in tears. Other fave OTPs: Outlaw Queen, Snowing, Belle with literally any other character besides Rumple

2.) NBCs Grimm - Started this show the same time as OUAT, in middle school and it got me through high school. I don’t have a comfort character here but the characters DO mean a lot to me, especially Monroe, Nick, Rosalee, Juliette and Trouble. This show is the reason I became interested in the Gabriel Knight series (it has an overall similar story). I learned about folktale creatures I had never heard about before,like Krampus. It has a lot of references to other stories (Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Bears, Frankenstein are just a few I can think of) with their own twist on it, but was different than OUAT. They also included their own lore for the creatures in the world as well as the titled “Grimm”, which made me even more invested in the story. I remember crying when I first saw the finale. This show also has writing issues but, honestly tell me a series that DOESNT have imperfections. Favorite OTPs: Monrosalee, Silverhardt

3.) Lucifer - The idea that the Devil can be redeemed? *Chefs Kiss* I don’t watch this show on repeat as often because of.. personal family reasons. This show got me through high school into early college. But I felt myself relating to Lucifer (ironically), and one of the episodes where he forgives himself? THAT made me cry. Chloe, Ella, Trixie and Rory are some honorable mentions, plus the parallels between Deckerstar and Captain Swan? *another Chefs Kiss* Favorite OTPs: Deckerstar, MazikEve (is that their ship name?)

4.) The Percy Jackson series (Including the tv series as well as the books + the Heroes of Olympus) - Got me through middle school and into early high school. I was a huge Greek Mythology fan so having this modern take on the gods and goddesses was really cool. When I found out that the Heroes of Olympus was a CONTINUATION. I HAD to read it, (if only for my boy, Percy). I actually had a birthday where my cake had the Camp Half Blood logo on it and I got the “Blood of Olympus” as a birthday gift. With the release of the new tv show, my love for the series has rekindled, I’ll even try to read the new books. Comfort character: Percy Jackson. Favorite OTPs: Percabeth, Jason x Piper, Leo x Calypso, Grover x that one forest Nymph whose name I forgot

My comfort video games

1.) The Gabriel Knight series (specifically, The Beast Within) - My most current hyperfixation; yes, I know it’s a 30+ year old point and click adventure game. I was introduced to it by.. let’s say an old friend..because I really liked Grimm and he told me it was very similar. Low and Behold, it WAS. It got my through the pandemic as well as the rest of college. The stories of the first two games are, personally, my favorite. Although the series is very tragic and not at all the “happy endings” I was used to, I was still invested, particularly after my comfort character became Baron Friedrich von Glower (even AFTER I learned he dies 🥲yes, I cried here too) became SO salty invested that I started writing fan fic, drawing and even buying the games for myself to fill the void and continue my denial. I also related to him on a very personal level. I call this series, “The One I Used Necromancy On” because I (personally) feel like I rose it from the dead (ironically considering my comfort character) and I continue to find people who like the series or are just getting into it. Favorite OTPs: Angelwolf/Klower, Gknight and now Knightamura.

2.) Alices Warped Wonderland - I was introduced to this by the same.. old friend.. that introduced me to the Gabriel Knight series. As you can guess by the name, it is a retelling of Alice In Wonderland, except with a bit of horror and trauma added to the story and this version of Alice is Japanese! The story is VERY emotional, especially the sixth chapter and the endings, I even cried in one of the endings. Although I kinda related to Alice more, my comfort character became Cheshire Cat. Favorite OTP: None, I ship Cheshire and Alice platonically though.

3.) Night in The Woods - Got me though high school, but didn’t become a comfort media until early collage. As someone who struggles with anxiety and depression, this game hit close to home. The Existential Horror/ Cosmic Horror beautiful ties into the struggles of mental illness, and the acceptance of change. Comfort Character: Mae Borowski, who I related to personally mainly because of her struggles with mental illness (although not the same). This game (along with the Gabriel Knight series) has some of my favorite dialogue, ever. A few other interactions between the characters, as well as the ending made me cry (see a pattern?). Favorite OTPs: Greg x Angus (idk their ship name).

4.) The Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask (SPECIFICALLY) - Even though I’m not the biggest LoZ fan, and I’ve only ever seen other people play this game, it still left an impact on me. How the whole story revolves around putting others happiness over yourself, even if it means doing it repeatedly to (seemingly) no avail. The fact that even after Skull Kid destroys Termania over and over again because he felt like his friends abandoned him and they forgive him and STILL consider him their friend? The true victory not just beating Majora, but saving and healing Termina and it’s people, including the Skull Kid? Chills. Goosebumps and tears EVERY TIME. Favorite Character: Skull Kid, this version of him SPECIFICALLY

Well. Colin’s M&Gs have been amongst the most expensive ones on OUAT conventions, and it was THE most expensive one in the Dutch Comic Con. Almost twice the prize of the other M&Gs, if I remember correctly.

He’s seen some fans attend multiple events he’s been in, paid for multiple M&Gs and private sessions with him. Said fans even gloat about it sometimes. Congrats on being rich by the way.

So of course he’s going to think there are enough rich suckers among his fans to take advantage of.

And honestly? I hope he does scam them. I hope the rich fans are enraged by it and stop paying money for his sake, though I doubt that will happen, because people who can casually throw thousands of dollars every year just to meet him don’t really have the perception of someone who goes paycheck by paycheck and lives off instant noodles the few days before the new paycheck comes, and cannot understand how huge of a sacrifice it was for such a person to pay 270 euros for a Colin M&G. Yes, I am talking about me.

Because I just saw someone say they are very excited for one of Colin’s NFTs... and what do you know, it’s one of those people who haven’t missed a single convention Colin’s been at in the past few years. So I’m not surprised they’re excited about this now. Shit’s pennies to them.

But I do hope they get scammed because this is fucking bullshit and if they accept the horrible terms they’re being sold under then it’s on them.

It’s okay to have money. It’s okay to spend it all on meeting your favourite actor. But now you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment, both by your previous activity (making Colin see how much money people are prepared to spend for his sake) and by your excitement for a fucking scam now.
