WRITEBLR INTRO
🌟🌟⭐Hey, Everybody. My name is Kay Gilbert (Blue Kyber), and welcome to my official Writeblr intro! ⭐🌟🌟
Tumblr media
It's about time I did one of these.
Tumblr media
🌟⭐ ⭐🌟
My official pen name is "Kay Gilbert." You'll find my original works on Wattpad under this name.
🌟 My dad is the reason why I got into sci-fi and fantasy when I was a very little girl. He's always encouraged my creativity. "Out There: The 1K" is dedicated to him.
I go by she/her.
I'm a millennial
I'm demi-heteroromantic-ace. Sex is great and all, but have you tried going off-the-wall bonkers at a trampoline park???
I have ADHD and high functioning autism. I was recently diagnosed in mid Sept. 2022. It's nice to finally know why my life has been so hard, and why I always thought I was a broken human, and "wrong."
📕 I've had a novel published in 2011: "Itara: Son of C'reseth." - a sword and sorcery story. I consider it my biggest accomplishment while simultaneously my biggest failure.
🎙 I'm an audiobook narrator.
I have a spiritual side, yet keep myself based in science.
🎬 I've worked on movie sets and been in a couple of films. I have a music theater background.
I got to meet Carrie Fisher - who was absolutely a pillar of confidence. Princess Leia was the first strong female role model I had.
🌟THINGS I LIKE🌟
STAR WARS. I am an unapologetic nerd who has crushes on both Luke Skywalker and Han Solo.
Tumblr media
I love space! :) 👽 Sci-fi and fantasy are in my blood. If given the chance to go to space, to see home from orbit, I'd take it in a heartbeat. In my next life, I want to be a pilot and explore the galaxy. 🌌
🎙 I love to sing. :)
I like to roller skate
I like shiny rocks. :)
I prefer pie over cake🥧
I'm a cat person😸
I like coffee ☕
Can't stand cilantro
I love heights. 'Flying' is the superpower I've always wanted ✈
I put the toilet paper roll over (under is for monsters) 🧻 Even the emoji shows it over!
Tacos are a gift from God. 🌮
🌟My favorite tropes are:🌟
found family
powers
profound bond
chosen one
last of their kind
kind-hearted himbo
reluctant hero/rogue who hates that they have a heart of gold
space jalopy that's a homeship with a soul
the power of platonic love
slow burn.
Tumblr media
🌟⭐MY MAIN WORK. ⭐🌟
"Out There: The 1K." is a sci-fi fantasy adventure novel containing all the aforementioned tropes and more. :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the four MCs - (top left to bottom right) Yune Darrak, Selka Kelnaris, Terra Kitridge, and William Kade.
Here's a Link to "Out There: The 1K" on Deviantart under AuthorKayGilbert.
I accepted a challenge to describe my story in the worst way possible, and came up with this:
It's about a reluctant disaster space found family running from people out to throw two Terran-human ten-year-olds with powers from an extinct human species at their collective galactic problem.
🌟⭐🌟SYNOPSIS🌟⭐🌟
One thousand children prophesied to save a galaxy embroiled in war are taken from Earth at the turn of the 21st century. The children are scattered throughout Alliance worlds to hide them from the terrifying, unseen antagonistic force that would destroy them, the keth.
This story follows the frightening and fantastical adventures of two of those children - Will and Terra - who are genetically altered to possess a strange power for a plan to end the war.
Yune Darrak - a lone spaceship pilot who ekes out a living as a salvager, bounty hunter, and treasure hunter, and Selka Kelnaris - a disillusioned, empathic, Ai Hiri bounty hunter - accidentally rescue them from a Regent secret lab while on a bounty hunt. They travel to a remote agrarian planet where Yune will hand the kids over to Selka once he gets her ship back from the planet's leader, so he can get his life back. A simple plan spirals into a deep, confusing mess involving a mysterious blue light known as the Source Field, a political coup, and more questions about the kids and Yune himself as all four are inadvertently caught up in the middle of a battle they never wanted to fight.

I’ll leave you with one more bit of worldbuilding technology from “Out There: The 1k”
Yune Darrak’s contact lenses record everything he sees. They’re medical grade masakan specialized optomemetic cortical stimulators.  (without the chip in the middle. This is just a concept. The outline is gold, and his eyes are a really pretty maple brown.)
Tumblr media
From the story:
Those contacts hadn’t been removed since the day the doctor put them in. They acted as a second layer over his eyes without causing irritation or infection. These were specifically designed to fit his anatomy and not move at all, even during REM sleep. He vaguely understood the science behind it, only that they absorbed patterns of light on the visual spectrum, converted it to electrical impulses, saved the information in the iris that could be retrieved and cleared with a scanner, and sent those impulses to specialized nanite technology he received through an eyedrop into each eye. They were programmed to move to the damaged parts of his eyes and act as replacements, sending those signals along optic nerves directly to his brain so it could ‘decode’ them into visual sensations.
All he cared about was that they worked.
Most of the time, he forgot they were there. His vision would begin pulsing red if the iris storage neared capacity. He had never seen that, even after forgetting to transfer and clear the information for a full week.
They gave him perfect vision with zero delay. Like the yondi technician said; they were the next best thing to getting his eyes replaced.

OUT THERE: THE 1K. Part 1. - read it on Wattpad. (It's free. :) Cover created on Canva through wattpad using a copyright free photo.)
A sci-fi fantasy adventure
Tumblr media
Synopsis:
One thousand children prophesied to save a galaxy embroiled in war are taken from Earth at the turn of the 21st century. The children are scattered throughout Alliance worlds to hide them from the terrifying, unseen antagonistic force that would destroy them, the Keth.
This story follows the frightening and fantastical adventures of two of those children - Will and Terra - who are genetically altered to possess a strange power for a plan to end the war.
Yune Darrak - a lone devil-may-care salvager, and Selka Kelnaris - a disillusioned, empathic, Ai Hiri bounty hunter - accidentally rescue them from a Regent secret lab while on a bounty hunt. They travel to a remote agrarian planet where Yune will hand the kids over to Selka once he gets her ship back from the planet's leader, so he can get his life back. A simple plan spirals into a deep, confusing mess involving a mysterious blue light, a political coup, and more questions about the kids and Yune himself as all four are inadvertently caught up together in the middle of a battle they never wanted to fight.
Will and Terra want to know who they are and where they belong. Yune wants to get his life back of salvaging spaceship wrecks and living alone. Selka wants to protect Will and Terra and find meaning to her life.
The story isn't so much about the war as it's focused on the lives of this little disaster space found family, their struggles, their small moments, and their growth aboard a jalopy homeship. The war is something that's happening around them.
Tumblr media
The four portrait combo are the MCs I created in Artbreeder. Each photo is where I stopped and said "That's it. That's them." - Yune, Selka, Terra, and Will.
(I am very, very proud of this story, and in love with it and the characters. It's close to my heart, and contains my heart and soul. I wrote a story that I would enjoy reading or watching.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That is the cockpit of my beloved home ship, the Horizon.
I spent way too long making that cockpit out of free commons stock items that were morphed and recolored beyond recognition. Way too much work, but well worth the hours to see my baby for real. Those cupholders retract into the control console, btw. :)
The space background is also a royalty free image. All of the images used at the headers of each chapter are either mine, or royalty free stock images.

I just love my characters. :)
Clearly she hadn’t been given the update on the shift in their relationship, “I’m not sure if you’re aware, but he placed an eighty-thousand credit bounty on my head. I’m not his favorite person right now.”
“It’s actually up to a-hundred-and-sixty,” Daj sounded a little jealous and impressed with a hint of irritation that she couldn’t turn him in for that tasty reward herself.  Yune whistled low. “Ok. I officially can’t blame any of you,” he glanced around the area at the people who all, moments ago, had multiple weapons trained on him, “I’d turn myself in for that.”

*blares a loud, triumphant clarion trumpet call..... with her mouth through her hands cupped to her lips*
HEAR YE, HEAR YE!!!
PART 2 OF "OUT THERE: THE 1K" WILL GO LIVE SOON!
Once the first couple of chapters are up, I'll post a Wattpad link.
Here's a tidbit for you to feast upon.
Tumblr media
Desperation quickly snared his exhausted mind around a singular thought as he pulled out rock after rock; Terra. I have to get to her. I have to find her.
Her face flashed through his memory. A profound loneliness knotted in his core. It hurt more than any of the scientists’ tests. At least at Strafsend, he knew he would get her back.
His small hands ripped out stone after stone, maniacally searching for an escape until he reached the massive boulder itself. He pounded his fists against the barrier's solid, rough surface. A pulse of blue energy burst outward at each impact, but his power had weakened significantly. Rocks and dirt scattered away from each push. “Terra!” he attacked with everything he had. The rock remained, unyielding, mocking his pain, “Terra!”
A blast of energy knocked the light over, casting their shadows onto the boulder, and emphasizing the large size of the wide cave mouth.
“Sparky, hey!” Yune called, but torment had locked the boy in its claws. None of Will’s attempts produced a blue light anymore. After fighting against the troops, and creating the shield, he had nothing left. It was the power equivalent of a dry heave.
Yune grabbed his right wrist, seeing blood darken the kid’s knuckles.
Will pulled against him despite it becoming harder to move or speak, “Let me go!”
“Will, stop! Stop!” Yune grappled with the crazed kid to snatch both of his wrists. The young terran was so weak, he didn’t have to exert much force to keep him in place. A sharp zap buzzed down his arms, but he held on, “Stop! It’s no use. There’s a whole mountain out there.”
“I don’t care! I have to get her back!”
“Hey! Hey,” he looked him in the eye, gripping his shoulders, “I’m right there with you, pal, but we can’t brute-force our way out of this. It’s blocked solid.”
He beat his fists against Yune’s chest, “Why did you take me away? Why?!”
“They’d have gotten you, too.”
“Then let them take me!” he struggled, “This is all your fault! I hate you!” He hit Yune again, and again, his mind whirling from thoughts of the cruel things Yune had said and Terra’s abduction, “I hate you! I hate you!”
Yune tightened his arms around him and held on through the fight to keep him from lunging at the rock, to calm him, and to stop him from hurting himself any further. He let the hurtful words fog past him, knowing the kid lashed out from raw emotion.
“Why?!” Will gripped Yune’s jacket, unable to escape the strength of the mik’s embrace - which now kept him from fully collapsing. The longer Yune held him, the more he didn’t want to be let go. “Why couldn’t I stop them? Why couldn’t I save her? Why wouldn’t it listen to me?! Why?! I tried!” He gulped down air from hyperventilation-crying, “I tried! Why!?”
Tears slid down his cheeks. His voice wobbled, “I can’t feel her. I ca-I can’t find her.” His tirade turned to a plea, “Why can’t I find her, Yune?” Saying those words out loud slammed the reality home that Terra, his twin, his other half, was gone. And being without her presence terrified him. It thrust him into a cold, cavernous, lonely darkness. “I can’t - can’t…” the rest of Will’s strength abandoned him.
The bigness of what he felt overwhelmed him. He sobbed uncontrollably into Yune’s shirt. He didn’t know what to do. Part of him had been ripped out, leaving a hemorrhaging wound in its wake. He devolved into an emotional mess of helplessness, crying into Yune’s stomach - a child begging for an adult to give him the answer, to light the way, to take this pain and fix everything and say it would be alright - to save him.

I'M UPDATING BOOK 1 ON WATTPAD!!!
(The death scare I had yesterday really kicked my ass into gear getting this finalized and ready for publication.)
Here's the link for the polished up and edited first chapter.
"OUT THERE: THE 1K"
Chapter 1: Transmission
Tumblr media Tumblr media
William Kade, a 10 year old kid from Ohio, thinks his biggest problems are the school bullies, and being grounded. His father hides codes within white radio noise for him find, since Will has the ability to pick out minute details in sound. He dreams of becoming the pilot of Earth's first intra-system ship, the Nova Star.
That all changes on the eventful night of New Years Eve, 1999.

Sommmmmmmmmmmme dialogue? :)
“My father’s been teaching me how to identify specific tells when someone’s lying. It’s part of my training to rule. When I saw her talking to you, I didn’t see any. Either she’s highly skilled at bluffing, or she’s telling the truth.” Siffon stood and brushed dust off of her borrowed clothes, saying poignantly before she left him to sit with it, “And I think we both know which one it is.”

A small bit of chapter 6 of "Out There" - edited and ready to be enjoyed. :)
“That’s the only way out,” Terra panicked, “We’re trapped!”
“We’re not trapped,” Captain Linell rested her palm gently on the child’s small face. “There is always an alternative.” She ran back into the holding room.
Everyone followed her.
“What happened to an alternative to kidnapping us?” Li argued.
“That was the alternative,” she snapped back.

So, there was a post that suggested authors post their deleted paragraphs as treats for what could have been in their story.
Mind you, these paragraphs are deleted for a reason: they don't work somehow, ideas changed, directions changed, moods changed, ect.
BUT.....
Here's one of my deleted paragraphs from "Out There: The 1K." From Part 2.
Tumblr media
Yune flopped back against the wall lethargically and pinched the bridge of his nose. What was he doing? He’d just had a juvenile fight with a ten year old in front of witnesses. What made it worse was that it felt like a fight with someone on the same level. Not an adult versus a kid, but a kid versus a kid.

A description of the annex cistern beneath the city of Cos Besta. From the recent chapter I'm editing of "Out There: The 1K."
Tumblr media
Daj led them through a small room with a ladder leading up to a hatch, a few seats, a control panel, and storage.
Yune got his bearings in the rusted old space. “Cozy,” he remarked, “Don’t tell me this is it. It’s pathetic.”
“Nope,” she pushed a large button beside the single-wide twin door at the other end, then cranked a massive wheel in its center to the right. The ancient gears creaked. A loud ‘click’ and the red light above the button turned green.
She pushed open the thick door and gestured for them to go inside, anticipating their reactions, and eager to see it, “This is.”
Will stepped through first and his jaw dropped, “Whoooooaa!”
Siffon gasped, “By the Light…”
Yune stared in slack-jawed awe.
Tumblr media
The door let them out into a dimly lit, massive, cavernous room larger than the palace’s main hall. Great support pillars spaced evenly through the room reached up from the water like the arms of gods to hold up a lofty, arching ceiling three stories above their heads.
Geometric carvings decorated the cupping tops of the columns and the arches connecting them. Whether the designs were mimicked at their bases, the group couldn’t tell, since they dipped into the dark water out of sight.
The broad balcony they stood on connected to a series of double-wide, stone-railed bridges that formed a plus sign with circular central hub. Multiple bridges formed a grid connected to those. Stone stairs lead up from the largest western bridge to a door near the top - an emergency escape route in case any infrastructure crew became trapped down here.
All of the railings were ‘recent’ additions installed for safety a couple hundred years ago.
A round water intake hatch cut into the wall directly across the huge square room. Two more just like it lay to the east and west. All were sealed tight. Manual valve controls lay at the ends of each bridge.
The walls themselves consisted of oscillating concave and convex waves flowing around them, making it seem like part of the ocean; form and function.
Fresh water churned by an unseen perpetual motion turbine filled up only eight feet above the floor, which was six feet below the bridges.
Calling it a ‘room’ would be an insult; it might as well be another dimension.
Or at least that's what it looked like to Yune, Will, and Siffon.
The ancient cistern made the small group of about thirty people already inside it milling about look even smaller. They were mostly yondi and humans, but there were a couple of angular-featured, orange-skinned enkai with spots along their cheekbones, tagron, o’alli, and a few laemurians. Some leaned on the railings, some were in conversation, and some noticed the newcomers.
They had sent a bot with hover capability to attach ephypsan battery powered lights to the closest columns. Survival gear and crates filled the center circle with heaters placed in the middle, and personal sleeping/living areas creating rays like a sun around it. The smells of cooking food came from electric camping galley equipment.
Yune finally spoke, “Ok. Didn't see that one coming.”
"Where are we" Will asked.
“An annex cistern beneath the city. They use in emergencies during major floods if the main network fills,” Jeina led the group forward across the bridge to the hub.
“It’s enormous,” Will turned in a slow circle as he walked, “A giant could live in here and have room to sprint. Does Ilthall have giants? Do anuleans count?”
"No and yes," Yune replied quickly.
“It’s beautiful. Who built it?” Siffon tried to take everything in at once.
“Your people did; long before the war began - before they traveled the stars.”
This was the work of yondi artisans and stone masons hundreds of years ago, perhaps thousands, maintained for generations. Siffon soaked up the new knowledge, wondering what else her ancestors had done.
“This is where we hid from the keth. I’m glad to see someone remembered it was here.”
Yune’s and Will’s ena crystals were still glowing clearly beneath their shirts - still excited. Both were grateful no one else could see their light but Jeina.

I have not bestowed upon you an excerpt from my story yet today.
From chapter 3: The Aurora Star. Here, my friends. Feast.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Wanna try?” he offered her a card - a green ‘4.’
She took it tentatively, “I don’t know…”
“It’s easy. Here, lemme show you. Just hold it like this between your fingers. Focus on one point on the wall, pull back your wrist, and flick it.”
She flicked the card. It fluttered up, and pinwheeled to the floor.
He handed her a blue ‘Reverse’ card, “Try again.”
She bit her lip in concentration on the point above his blue card and flicked her wrist. The card sailed through the air in an arch and hit the door. It fell directly over the blue card.
A giggle of delight left her, “Was that right?”
He pushed up his glasses by the right side, “Uh...yeah. That was perfect. You’re really good at this. It took me a week to get that down.”
She shrugged, “I’m good at darts.”
He smirked, “Ok. Then I challenge you. Whoever hits the same spot the most wins.”
“Ok.” She accepted half of the deck.
Uno cards shot across the space and collided with the door like colored frisbees. The two poked each other to try to throw one another off, or made faces as distractions. A rainbow pile quickly built. Terra landed three quarters of her cards. Will only landed half.
“I win!” she cheered.
“I let you win,” he jabbed.
“No you didn’t.”
“Yeah, I did.”
“Sore loser.”
“Am not!”
“Wanna go again?”
“You’re on.” He hurried over to pick up the cards and handed her half the deck.
Cards flew once more. A few of the other kids even started cheering on their favorite. It was something positive to focus on, and they desperately needed that small psychological sanctuary.
Once more, Terra’s cards hit their mark twice as frequently as his.
Their audience responded with cheers for her, ‘get her next time’ to Will, and ‘you suck, nerd,’ along with ‘she schooled you, dude,’ and ‘I wanna play!’
The two boys who’d become inseparable began bickering over who would play winner.
Will huffed as he sat down with the cards in hand and offered her the blue ‘Reverse’ card. “Best two out of three?”
She giggled.
“What? I don’t suck that much.”
“No,” she smiled, “You were laughing. I like it more when you’re happy than when you’re scared.” To her, that sound meant more than simple joy at a game. She’d protected the part of him drowned by the horrors of the past few hours, and he to her. This boy had saved her sanity. She’d lost everything, as they all did, but now she had Will, and he’d given her a reason to fight: a family. No matter what happened from now on, she wouldn’t leave him.
He played nervously with a card, “I guess. You...you, too.”
Her smile turned mischievous as she held out her palm for her half of the deck, “But you’re gonna cry when I beat you again.”
“I should get you a bowl, ‘cause you’re gonna eat those words,” he held out the cards to her.

It's 12:48am, and I'm awake. I can't blame the generic adderall. My bedtime is normally 2am. *cue Anna Nalick song that's suddenly in my head and will swap songs on the constantly-on radio station in my brain.* So HERE.
A small excerpt from "Out There: the 1K - part 1." -- my baby. :) my story. My love. A conversation between Yune and Selka.
Tumblr media
[Yune] “I do. And I have my reasons.”
[Selka] “Reasons you want to share?”
“It’s nothing you need to worry about.”
“Whenever you say that, I worry.”
“Well, don’t. I’ve already got a great plan to get in, get your ship, and get out without being detected.”
“Ok,” she waited, but when he didn’t volunteer any information, she urged him on, “So, are you planning on sharing this great plan?’”
“I…,” he searched for the right words to soften the blow, “haven’t worked out all the details yet. But trust me; it’s a good one.”
“That’s ‘Yune’ for ‘I’ll figure it out later.’”
“And that method’s rarely failed me in the past. Besides, I’ve picked up a few more improvisational tricks of the trade from other salvagers.”
She stared at him, “Back up. You’re a salvager now? Is that what you’ve been doing for the past two years?”
“The cargo hold isn’t full of spaceship parts and tech because I like collecting it. … Ok, most of it isn’t,” he caught her raised eyebrow, “Ok, half of it isn’t. Hey. You know my skill set. And it’s honest work. Salvaged parts aren’t tracked. Plus, it keeps me off the radar of people I’d rather avoid,” he mumbled his words toward the planet. “The sooner we get your ship, the sooner I can get my life back.”
“Ah, yes. The exciting, adventurous life of a salvager.” she tilted her head slightly toward him in clear sarcasm, “Wouldn’t want to keep you from that.”
“There is nothing wrong with trying to go legit.”
“No, but I always figured you’d be bored out of your mind,” She knew he could rarely resist the game of smuggling, treasure hunting, and exploring. The higher the danger, the more exhilarating and therefore fun, and those always promised grand dividends. “It’s not like you to settle for the mundane.”
“Maybe you never really knew me.”
“Oh, I know you, Yune Darrak,” she wouldn’t let the subject drop, “What I don’t know is why you’re so afraid to come back here.”

Not the current chapter I'm editing, but from way back in chapter 4: Pancakes.... (on wattpad) (out there: the 1k) Actual fan art of Will and Terra!!!!!!! by Mismatchingart
Tumblr media
Will laid on his cot, number 246, and stared at the high ceiling. It looked to be made of panels that could be removed like puzzle pieces. A set of stairs were blocked off at the side so the new occupants of the cargo bay couldn’t climb up to the catwalk.
They’d given him a clean set of clothes to wear, but he left them folded up on the floor. It was a small rebellious act against being forcefully matriculated into ‘space society,’ or whatever they wanted to call it. They were soft, but the fabric didn’t smell right.
He never thought he’d miss the smell of detergent so much.
What were they going to do now? Where were they going? He wondered which family had agreed to take him in, and if he would like them, or ever get used to being forced to call an alien world and an alien foster family ‘home.’ Would any of the kids here be in the same city, or on the same planet?
Would he get to stay with Terra?
Every time he closed his eyes, he saw the faces of his parents paralyzed in the snow watching an alien abduct their son. If they survived the apocalypse, they’d be worried about him. And he had no way to tell them he was alright.
If they survived…
Heat welled up in his chest again, and he bit his lip against it. So far, he’d managed to keep from breaking down completely. He had to be strong for himself, and for Terra.
He glanced at her across the way toward the bay door on her own cot curled up beneath a blanket. If she’d managed to fall asleep, she’d accomplished something that cruelly eluded him.
His stomach grumbled. He sighed and rolled over. They’d given him food, but all he did was pick at it. Eating was difficult, plus it didn’t taste like anything he was accustomed to. The texture bothered him.
Masakans were human, and everything on this ship was designed with humanoid anatomy in mind. Even the food adhered to their delicate digestive system. But all of it was off enough to feel completely foreign.
