i love the art where they are both murderers, do you have any ideas for that au?

I do! I don’t have a plot but I have a few ideas about them. Heads up for violence and major OOC behavior! A lot had to be changed to make them murderers.

Akane (Body Count 3)

Akane is usually a very apathetic and independent person, but he is able to form relationships and occasionally cares about others. When he does get attached to something he will not leave it alone, confused but also intrigued by his own emotions. He feels more positive emotions than negative ones when he finds himself caring about someone, so he is open to meeting new people, hoping even when most of the time he is unable to form even the most basic of connection with classmates or childhood playmates.

He help others sometimes, but his only friend is Aoi-chan, who is very smart and very pretty, he likes making her happy cause her giggle is one of the few things he got attached to.

He accidentally kills a kid that was harassing Aoi when he is ten. Akane was mildly surprised by this, but Aoi was distraught, helping him clean up the evidence and dispose of the body while crying nonstop. Akane felt nothing as he dragged a corpse, not caring that he had become a criminal, but he felt weird in a way he didn’t like when Aoi got sad, so he told himself to not kill people.

Akane is good at understanding other people but since he isn’t very attached to himself, he doesn’t pay attention to his own needs or feelings.

Aoi is murdered a year later, and her blood is beautiful, Akane can only think “...I wish I was the one that killed her.” at first, unable to process her death.

He misses Aoi but doesn’t understand that he’s grieving, so he tries to fix the “bad emotion” by taking her out of her resting place after the funeral and putting her in his freezer, making sure there was no evidence of his grave robbery.

He dresses her up in her favorite frilly dresses, clean her, and teaches himself to be a master at makeup so he can make her look less decomposed, but it doesn’t ‘fix’ his grief. He holds her frozen hand sometimes but it also doesn’t bring back the nice emotions he used to have when they played together. One day he snaps and completely shatters her frozen body, deciding that if she is truly gone, he should have been the one responsible for it, as her best friend. 

He buries the remains in her grave again, visiting her to leave flowers sometimes.

He mostly lives alone, his parents work overseas. He’s used to be alone but not used to feel lonely.

He is oddly honest with most things. Doesn’t really do manipulation, he has a bluntness and a dark sense of humor Lemon finds funny and a ‘bizarre’ way of acting that is kind of charming. They become somewhat friends, though Akane is only slightly attached to him, he is very protective after Aoi's death, always saying a serious “Don’t die” when Lemon makes jokes about dumb internet challenges, like eating tide pods. He is genuinely scared of feeling grief again. 

He kills anyone, person or animal, that manages to genuinely bother his friend, but he doesn’t tell anyone, learning from Aoi that it makes people ‘sad’ and ‘scared’. Thankfully Lemon is very chill, is practically impossible to truly bother him.

Akane heard a lot about ‘heart skipping a beat’ when you’re in love and thought he was in love with Lemon, who is one of the few people that make him feel things. They dated for four days, kind of, it didn’t feel like dating, Yamabuki was the one that ‘broke up’, sitting him down and going “Dude, not to sound condescending but I really think you just got confused”. They are still friends.

Akane gets a genuine crush on a very beautiful and charismatic girl at fifteen, it reminds him of what he felt with Aoi and it brings him memories he would rather not deal with, so he kills the girl. He is too reactive and his targets are usually not planned, but he is very good at making things look like an accident or completely disposing of evidence. So he isn’t caught.

Kill fast. Does not feel anything at the killing itself, but if it’s a murder that was hard to plan and execute, he will feel satisfaction from a well-done task.

He is still a workaholic since short burst of satisfaction is one of the easiest emotions for him to feel and understand. People never give him any crazy requests, but if he was asked to poison someone and given a good explanation, he would.

Dislikes murderers. The idea someone could just take away what he cares about again is bad. 

Hates himself and isn’t aware of it.

Teru (Body Count 9)

Teru can’t quite distinguish living from dead, both bleed, both scream and beg, but he still knows supernaturals are trash compared to people: No one cares if he exorcises 100 supernaturals but a single human death will leave the town in fear. He knows on a basic level that he shouldn’t kill people, but he likes killing more than exorcising supernaturals, not only because their death feels more impactful, but also cause a supernatural dissipates in the air after they die, while a dead human keep bleeding, their body remains in the near shore. 

He only murders people when his stress is at an all-time high, every murder of his is very calculated. He is a sadist, so he likes prolonging his murders. He is still cautions though, always destroying the vocal cords first so his victims can’t scream and reveal their location and not inflicting messy attacks. If he feels like he can’t afford to give someone a slow death without being caught, he will end it quickly, his self restrain really good.

Murderers are not that uncommon in the Minamoto clan, and Teru is a very good exorcist that isn't addicted to killing, so other exorcists cover up for him if needed. Occasionally, his family moves cities.

A phenomenal liar, knows exactly what people want after a brief talk with them.

Usually he is either stressed or plain bored, so anything entertaining gets his attention.

He ocasionally have difficulty connecting with Kou and Tiara, needing to study their behavior to give them a big brother they’ll like. He does care about them, and is very protective, but he isn’t capable of getting super emotionally attached. His emotions are a bit… muted for lack of a better word, no matter what, logic will always be what moves him. 

Does not share their bloody family history with his siblings. He is amused to be seen as a hero, to the point he comes up with a game, challenging himself to keep them in the dark for as long as possible.

He can’t cook for shit, but his ‘hobby’ made him very good at cleaning, sometimes he helps Kou clean the house.

Puts murderers on the same level as supernaturals: Someone with no empathy that can hurt his family. He’s well aware he can hurt his own family, had done it on accident a few times, but he doesn’t care about the hypocrisy of it, making an effort to correct his behavior with them. 

When he meets Akane they both get a sense the other killed a person before. They immediately don’t trust each other.

Why the “betrayal” in chapter 108 is so interesting to me (spoilers for chapter 108 + 110)

Another short terukane analysis, if you can even call it that. Posting at midnight again :3

So this section is started when the big clock is stopped, and akane + teru head to no. 1’s boundary to see whats going on. They see hanako frozen, bully him, yadayadayada not important

Very very shortly after they get into the boundary, akane is approached by an owl. More specifically a “messenger”, which we can assume was sent by kako or mirai or some other clock keeper person.

the owl flies up to akane, lands on his arm, and tells him something. This “something” seems to shock akane. Well, less of shock factor more of unwant.

He clearly does not want to comply with what the owl is asking of him/ordering him to do, but again, akane will complain, but when it comes down to it, he’ll do It. He seems somewhat distressed, but when teru is in frame with him his anxious expression disappears and is replaces with that of a content/not particularly happy nor sad nor anything face.

Then we see him start to talk about the clock to teru, and mention something he needs to “ammend”.

Then, this godforsaken panel comes next

Now that you understand whats going on i can break it down. we can generally assume this owl told him “stamp him for the trial” or smthn like that, but why would he be so distressed and uncomfortable with doing this?

He visibly wants to fight back. He really really doesn’t wanna do this. But why? Maybe he doesn’t wanna lose teru’s trust again, maybe he just doesn’t wanna go through with the trial, but no matter what he wants, he goes through with it

if you know teru’s character, like really know his character, you’d know trust is like a big thing for this dude. And he trusts him completely. He trusts him in the place where his supernatural abilities are at their strongest. Akane told him to follow the bird, and he did it without question. Putting his back to him while they walked together, being extremely vulnerable in a place where akane (a supernatural aka his literal born enemy) is at his most powerful

We cant see his face, so we dont know what he’s thinking, but quickly akane steps forward, and hits him with the mallet, and this panel is born

This, along with the next two or three panels have alot so lets break these down even further.

for starters, akane knew teru well enough to know how he would react, and moved his hand (that was guarding his sword) away

And teru’s face is very telling aswell. Ive never seen him make this face before its kinda funny. He looks as if someones just ripped something from him. He knew akane was behind him, but he didnt do this. Who did this to him. Wouldnt akane shout oh i dont know “hey pres watch out” or something?? Whats happening??

he turns and the one thing he was hoping wasn’t true, was true

It WAS him. Teru’s had a record of responding to distressed moments by taking it out on other people via violence, feeling betrayed, he immediately turns to attack akane.

And akane hits him with the “forgive me president.” with the title for added sincerity, showing he really does care

Teru not stopping after akane’s told him to multiples times, akane was forced to put him into an even more vulnerable position, this time, without room for withdrawl

During the trial (chapter 110) alot of people were shitting on teru for not doing anything while akane was being beat up by tsukasa, but dudes in a restraint ofc he cant fucking do anything, he said it himself 😭

Teru has always seen akane as human, and thats i think one of the things akane likes ab him. Even after literally being half supernatural and welding inhuman abilities, he still sees him as human. Snd therefore treats him like one. But this “betrayal” i feel like changed something for him. He refers to his as a “clock keeper” rather than “aoi” or any other name

TERUKANEAOIIIIII !!!! Fun fact i used to be a bit of a Terukane hater. I think cause i just liked akaneaoi more…? Don’t really remember why i just remember i was a hater. Privately of course. But thats in the past now theyre fucking CRAZZZYYYYYY and throwing aoi in there too it’s PERFECT !! Like. Terukane is just insane people central. They do all need to explore each others bodies but its not like in a traditionally loving way. Or something. Does this make any sense. Probably not. It’s hard to put vibes into words. Like they dont date they dont hold hands they dont say i love you. Well aoi does. No she doesnt. I dont know. But They do look at each other and get struck by lightning meteor god about it though.

pre-canon terukane is so interesting to me bc it’s them both still with all their defenses up and they’re trying desperately to get as much info abt each other while simultaneously sharing Nothing abt themselves but it doesn’t work bc they’re desperate for someone to talk to abt their true feelings and they keep letting things slip when they get emotional and that’s how the seed to planted for them to eventually become the ppl who know each other the best

Alright! As promised, here is my terukane take on the "hot springs that turn you into a cat au”! I hope you were expecting something silly, cause I went full self-indulgent.

The Neko House is a small business that works as a joint restaurant and hot springs. The place is small, surrounded by rumors, both good and bad: Some people say you turn into a cat if you visit, but others say it’s a pleasant and charming place where the restaurant employees dress as cats and very docile stray cats sleep around.

Akane is a tourist, he went there to eat with his childhood friend, Aoi, who really like cats despite being unlucky with them. After they finished eating she told him to have fun at the hotsprings, since he have been stressed lately and she still wanted to play with the restaurant cats, who surprisingly, didn’t scratch her. Akane can’t say no to her, so he decides he might as well, it’s not like he is agaist relaxing in a hot spring anyway.

Akane slowly gets turned into a cat. At first is just fangs, cat ears and a tail, which he doesn’t even notice, too busy chilling in the hot springs, but once he turns into a full cat, he notices right away, sinking and nearly drowning. He is the most confused and grumpy cat you can imagine, he hisses at everything and tries very hard to keep walking on his back paws like a human, which tires him greatly. He is one stubborn guy so he takes three hours to give up and walk like a cat.

He search for Aoi-chan, happy to see her human and happy, playing with a ton of cats, but heartbroken to not be recognized, even when she hugs him and claims he looks like her friend. It’s wild to see Aoi gets worried that “Akane-kun is taking a while” while being right there.

He tried to follow Aoi out of the Neko House after hours passed and she started to panic about him. Unfortunately, Akane was stopped by an invisible force field around the place, so he couldn’t stay by her side. It was frustrating and a bit scary.

“My my, what an angry kitten. We need to put you on the hot springs again, it will make you relax~” The owner, Hanako, said when he found him. Akane know brainwash when he sees it, so he immediately dashed away. He is one of the few cats around that didn’t surrender to his cat instincts, and the only one trying to be human again. He steal keys from the staff, steal their food, and act like an overall annoyance people can’t catch. Hanako managed to get close to grabbing him once but he got a claw in the eye and a bite on his nose.

When Akane pushed a jar off the cupboards and nearly hit Nene’s head, they decided to give up on catching Akane, just let him be.

Meanwhile, Teru and Kou get Aoi’s report of yet another missing person and add it to their list, their interviews with everyone who lost someone starting to sound familiar: They realize all missing people are seen entering the hots spring but not coming back, and the costumers leaving glowing reviews are the ones that only go to eat and appreciate the cats.

There is only so much interviews can give however, so the Minamoto brothers went to check the place in person before writing an article about it. When Teru got in, he noticed the staff stiffen, he also noticed a grumpy copper cat paying full attention to him. He didn’t care about the cat, delighted to intimidate the staff until they gave him answers. 

He was doing good progress getting them to spill out the very questionable origin of this place when he felt claws on his pant leg. Cats usually hate Teru, so he was surprised to see the grumpy copper cat try to climb him, insistent even when Teru gently shook him off. The staff also seemed surprised, claiming the cat hates everyone and usually doesn’t let people get close.

After the fourth time shaking the cat away, Teru just gave up and let the cat jump on his coat, climbing until he got comfortable on his shoulder, staring so intensely at his research, that Teru almost believed the cat was reading it.

Teru tried to pet the clingy cat, but it didn’t let him, scratching his hand and hissing, its full attention on the paper, almost as if asking Teru to flip the page of his research. The brothers were very baffled, but slightly intrigued as well, whenever Teru felt a paw on his cheek he knew it was time to turn the page on his journal. It was kind of cute, so Teru indulged the cat while questioning the staff. While Teru was distracted analyzing how suspiciously real one of the staff's cat ears was, the cat on his shoulder jumped on his hand, stealing his fucking research and running away. He runs after the cat and left Kou in charge of interrogating the employees.

Teru found the cat at the entrance, putting dirt all over his research. To say he was ready to wring a feline neck would be an understanding, but after a brief study, he realized the copper cat was helping him, sticking his nose in the ground and using mud to highlight part of his documents and write down short and messy words. Meowing and guiding him around. He is such a smart cat, it almost feels like he understands Teru.

Teru had a feeling the place was magic, so he assumed Akane is a magical cat and teamed up with him. He opened the doors and unlocked wardrobes with the keys Akane has stolen, and the cat climbed way up high, sneaking on every crevise in search for clues. Akane ignore any cat treats, focusing on finding shady shit and dropping them in front of Teru. They are a good team.

When the investigator tries to very carefully pet Akane, the cat misinterprets the slowly approaching hand as a high five and indulges in it.

Teru melts. He has officially grown attached.

“Kou, we are getting a cat! I named him Cinnamon! ” He’ll declare while holding Akane, even though Akane absolutely does not want to be picked up, he is meowling in offense and exuding miserable and murderous vibes, but Teru is too happy to care “He is a very smart kitty. Ah, and don’t worry about that, he bites but he is a sweetheart!”

The Neko House staff can understand every curse word Akane is saying, Mitsuba and Hanako have to fake cough to hide their laughs. Kou thankfully goes “I cannot begin to describe how much this cat wants to murder you Teru-nii. Please drop the poor creature.” So Akane is spared. He is so grateful he let Kou briefly pat him. Teru mopes about it, but Akane just sticks his tongue at him, having no sympathies to spare.

Teru wants to check the hot springs, but he gets wary by the way ‘Cinnamon’ hissed and bit his leg the second he tried to put his arm in the water, deciding instead to put the water in a flask and analyze it later.

The Neko House is in the middle of nowhere, so the Minamoto bros spends the night there.

Teru barely touched the water so he wasn’t turned into a cat, but he did spend the night trying to find some suspicious substance in it. He woke up with cat ears and a fluffy tail, but didn’t realize it, feeling slightly puzzled at the way Cinnamon was laughing at him. He tried to pet the cat again, surprisingly getting to feel a bit of his fluffy fur before being gifted the obrigatory furious bite. Oh well.

Teru only noticed he got cat ears when he went to put his detective hat on. 

He looked at his cat ears, then at his cat, connected the dots “Oh. You’re a human, aren’t you, Cinnamon?” and getting the most “no shit sherlock” face he has ever seen in a cat.

Teru hides his ears under his hat and gives Akane a little tie and a detective hat. He is an honorary investigator now.

I'm really sorry to disturb you but, on tbhk twitter recently people have been mass blocking you and calling you out for your work on ao3 that has smut in it.

I see, thank you for letting me know, I would have been very anxious if I had no idea why I was losing followers :(

To learn this is the reason? It mostly makes me sad, cause I really love the fic, phantom thieves is a favorite au of mine. There are barely any adults in this fandom, is mostly kids, so I wrote what I wanted to see, a fic with mature themes and adults with jobs and horrible coping mechanisms and smut, and a different kind of angst from the ones I usually see in terukane fics.

Kids shouldn't read it, that's obvious, I rated it the big bad lewd M and E so they can filter it or move past it. Minors are not dumb, being a pre teen is not the same as being a toddler, they have the capacity to go 'oh this isn't for me' and focus on something more suited for their tastes. If the idea of aged up makes them so uncomfortable they can't overlook it, that's okay, sorry about that, please block me, i am a firm believer you should block what makes you uncomfortable or just what makes you annoyed really, but if they must block me cause they are entitled enough to treat a creator as someone whose sole purpose is to make things they personally like, an accessory who 'always has to be family friendly cause I can't like a tainted creator uwu', or cause they are blindly following the current 'let's cancel X' trend, then please, go away, I reassure you I don't want to interact with you either.

I am still sad, of course, I had a Phantom Thieves prequel in the making covering the events where Akane got shot, and I was very excited to explore a few of Akane's problems, but I no longer feel motivated to write it at all...

I know Twitter runs on drama, people are eager to have someone to argue with, so I won't address it there unless it blows out of proportion. It should be a simple case of block and move on cause of personal preference.

i meant when terukane is in an established relationship! thinking of future akane having higher ground to fluster with his past bf as his past self wants the ground to eat him up is the source of this indulgent idea! or or future teru now being 100x hotter and almost kills bi disaster past akane with looks alone! just future terukane being natural flirts and domestic with one another which confuses the pre-sacrifice cast and causes some embarrassment (or happiness in teru's part cause he got together with akane!) to their past selves! or or pre-teru noticing that future akane was penetrated thru his abdomen or future teru almost losing (or he did lost?) his arm and shoot me how did this become from fluff to angst

but ur idea of future akane coming from the timeline where teru lost is arm and got together with aoi is freaking angst material and i adore it as well! like teru already knew that he lost the chance to be with akane but didn't expect that he lost his purpose at the same time and this angst bitch shot me

Sure thing, let’s focus on established flirty terukane meeting pre-reaper sacrifice teru akane!

Future Teru and Akane took nine months after Aoi's rescue to start dating, both having very messy feelings and issues to face before openly admitting their love for each other, but once they agree to at least give this relationship a try, things just got better and better. In no time they had moved together and gotten matching rings, able to communicate with each other with a simple glance, regularly going out on dates, and getting rituals that are surprisingly domestic, their apartment filled with potted plants that Teru accidentally kills every week (Akane still want to strangle his husband at times), and always playing some catchy pop song.

Teru's shoulder was healed but it doesn’t work as well, so he uses both his arms when wielding his sword. Akane's contract finished, so he is human, but his far shore adventures and clock keeper time make it so he can still sometimes see spirits, too drenched in the supernatural world to be fully ‘normal’.

They have gotten really good at just expressing their love and showing they care. Akane stays up many nights just to greet Teru from his exorcist job with a warm cup of tea in hand and a free kiss, Teru will massage his tired husband and let him vent about his work. They touch each other naturally, like two magnets, if they are in the same room, they end up unconsciously moving to their partner's side. They call each other by their first name, only using pet names when they’re teasing, or in a playfull mood.

Pre-sacrifice terukane accidentally angered an unstable supernatural that messes with time, teleporting their future self to the present. Future Teru's first instinct is to unsheath his sword and get in front of his husband, but all his protective instinct dies when he sees two startled and extremely familiar teens instead of a threat.

Everyone spend a solid moment just staring at each other in shock.

Young Akane is too busy looking at Teru in alarm, cause he has never seen Teru so relaxed, and so hot before. He genuinely just assumed the president had reached his peak at 17, cause it wasn’t fair that he would grow to be even more attractive than he already was. 

(Seeing the older Teru jump to protect his Akane when the president is always eager to bully him was also very… strange… to witness.)

Young Teru has a similar crisis, cause he already thinks Akane is handsome, his heart went crazy when he met a more mature and hotter version of Akane. He think older Akane’s short ponytail and his lack of supernatural energy is strange, but the most unbalancing thing about this new Akane is easily how softly he looked at future Teru. 

Future Teru is the one that snaps out of it first “Now that’s interesting! I think we are a bit early.” 

“You don’t say,” Future Akane snarks, breaking the tension.

Younger Teru is able to recompose himself completely at that, analyzing the situation more calmly. Teru doesn’t like how hard it is to read himself, not sure if his future self was truly in a good mood, or if his mask just got better with time, so he unconsciously goes to the older Akane for answer, always comfortable near him. 

Unfortunately, teen Teru can barely says “Aoi-” before the older Akane corrects him “It’s Minamoto now.”

And teen Teru’s brain stop working, he just stares at Akane’s smug smirk and the wedding ring on his finger and he gets a sudden burst of disbelief and he doesn’t know what to think or do.

Future Akane is a bit annoyed that even in his twenties, he is still a few fingers shorter than teen Teru but it’s impossible to take it to heart when Teru is so damn adorable at 17! He can read Teru's expressions perfectly after living with the guy for nearly a decade, so he knows right away the younger Teru is shocked. Shy as well.

Akane can’t help but ruffle his hair, watching his younger husband blush with delight, feeling himself soften at the lost way Teru asked “…What about Akane-san?”

“She’s our best friend, still an amazing lady, just as lovely as you” He’ll reassure, instinctively slipping his hand to the boy’s cheek to comfort him “You’ll grow to be a great husband, Teru.”

Teru is overjoyed and overwhelmed. He doesn’t know how to handle this, so his fight or flight instincts activate, grabbing Akane’s wrist to make him stop, not expecting the older Akane to be prepared for this reaction, so used to it, he effortlessly slipped his hand out of his grasp, making so they were holding hands instead, their fingers intertwined.

Teru stares.

Akane lightly squeezes his hand and smiles as if he was the best thing in his life.

Teru gets so flustered he loses control of his spiritual energy, catching Akane off guard when he accidentally shocks him. 

Young Teru is mortified.

Young Akane is mortified too, it takes way too long to register what his future self had said, since he has a very hot man (with a very nice voice too, cause wow, his life is unfair) smiling softly at him, but once he does register it, he is scandalized “Minamoto?! No you’re not! I would never-You- WHAT??”  something that doesn’t get better after he witnesses his older self whispering something to the president and clearly flirt.

(And holy shit, his Teru is blushing? Akane made The Teru Minamoto speechless and blushy??? He'll grow up to be so cool!)

Future Teru has no sympathy for his younger self, chuckling at how much fun his husband was having and approaching the young Akane, smitten by how absolutely adorable Akane looked, oh how he had missed his nerdy glasses!

Young Akane is unable to look at Teru in the eye, but he still had the energy to snarl and be suspicious “I don’t know what your deal is, but I am not falling for it bastard! This trick won’t work on me-”

Future Teru put a single finger on his lips, chuckling at the way his younger husband completely freezes, blushing extra hard. Akane is so cute. Truly “You’re adorable”

“S-shut up!” Akane acts as if he was burned, having trouble getting coehent thoughts “Don’t touch me!”

“That’s not what you said last night~”

It takes a solid moment for the insinuation to properly register. Once it does, the distressed noise Akane makes is so strangled it ceases to be human.

Even Young Teru’s eyes widen at the insinuation, finding his future self behavior almost unrecognizable from himself and the idea he was… intimate with Akane in the future made him feel very shy.

The older duo doesn’t stick for long.

Future Akane flusters Teru some more by just... being very gentle and supportive.

Future Teru is a menace and makes Akane nearly have a heart attack when he hugs him, accidentally (on purpose) insinuating that his younger self was in love already and smirking in silence when Akane demanded an elaboration about that.

Young Akane doesn't get any explanation. The bastard just laughs, grab his husband by the waist, and declares they have a date to get back to it, using exorcist bullshit to get back to his time.

This wild visit had made the two teens unable to as much as look at each other without blushing for a solid minute.

“...All in favor of pretending this never happened?” Young Akane will offer awkwardly, trying very hard not to overthink about older Teru's unfairly hot smirk or the stupidly proud way his older self had said ‘It’s Minamoto, actually’ or how the president might currently like him?? Unless the future Teru lied?? Which does sound like something Teru would do to mess with him. So Akane decided to just ignore it

And young Teru will be in such a good mood, chuckling in a way that catches Akane off guard and taking a bit too long to say "All in favor."

(They’ll both stay up all night thinking about it.)

(Time Travel AU: Part 1 )

Teru is in a good mood after the visit from their future selves. 

Akane is confused by it. On one hand, he appreciates being bullied less, on the other, he doesn’t understand why Teru is so happy? Shouldn’t he be disgusted that he married a half-supernatural?? Or does he only start “liking” Akane when his clock keeper contract expires?? Akane always ends up thinking too hard about it, stressed to catch himself acting as if the future he was shown is already set in stone. Maybe those were alternative versions of them?

Overall, Akane tries not to think about it, the idea of Teru liking him was weird, so the idea of Teru loving him freaked him out.

Akane is very blunt too, and that’s not good sometimes, cause Teru will get in his vice president’s personal space while they banter, and Akane will remember Future Teru’s promise that the president already likes him and get hyperaware of everything, blurting out “Are you flirting?? Is this flirting?” which both startles and amuses Teru so much. Yes, he is embarrassed to be called out, but he hides it, throwing back “Are we?”

“We..?” A pause “No we aren’t!”

“Then we aren’t~”

Rip Akane, he will just be very confused. He spends more time with Aoi-chan to 'clear his mind' and even buys a journal to try to understand what the hell is going on. It has loose words thrown around about the future and marriage and possible dimension hopping and ways to change it in rushed calligraphy that is near impossible to read. If anyone sees it, they’ll think he went crazy and that he either plans to marry Teru in the future, or murder him. It’s unclear.

Meanwhile, future terukane would go on their planned date and bicker like the old married couple they are, feeling nostalgic after the meeting “I always pictured you as this imposing figure in high school, I can’t believe you were so awkward Teru. Truly adorable”

“I am still cute, you know…”

“Yeah, yeah. Like a big puppy” Akane will half-heartedly bop his nose, distracted “...Should I have hugged younger you? I feel like you really needed a hug”

“No, the loser would just have a heart attack ”

“Like the one you gave me? Don’t think I haven’t noticed you flustering me to death, asshole. You know how dense I was!”

“As if you weren’t having fun too, you hypocrite.”

“...Not my fault it’s so hard to catch you being shy.”

“I had forgotten just how easy to tease you used to be, you were somehow even more of an open book. Very distrustful of me too…” Teru would pause, “... Do you think this was before Akane-san was kidnapped?”

“...Christ” Akane would cringe “Should we have warned them about that shitshow?”

“Nah, they’ll figure it out.”

Does it mean way further in the future, when terukane lives happily in an established relationship, or is this future one where Teru lost his arm and is forced to abandon his exorcism and akane got with aoi?? Glady! I’ll keep focusing on Akane cause I like to put this poor guy under a microscope.

Akane is shown to be someone who complains loudly when he gets stuck with a chore he considers unfair. The only person that he indulges with a smile is Aoi-chan.

However, after the severance, he starts to indulge Teru too.

It’s a more subtle and depressing kind of indulgence, cause Akane is genuinely annoyed by his demands, aware Teru is being a little shit, but he doesn't fight right away, like usual, he takes more time.

He knows these are unfair demands, made only to give him a hard time and amuse Teru, but Akane doesn’t cancel the ridiculous orders when he has the menu tablet in his hand, he suck it up and quietly drinks the vegetable boba crush he visibly isn't enjoying.

There is no resistance, no panel bringing attention to it, he just drinks it.

Which is a far cry from everything Teru had to do some chapters ago to get Akane to indulge in his little contest.

Is like he can't hate Teru for being unable to save Aoi, so he just hates himself instead.

While he wants Teru to trust him, he isn't interested in pleasing Teru or staying on his good side. Their relationship is so based on honesty that Akane doesn’t know how to try to get the guy's respect, he is too used to losing his cool or admitting his ignorance with Teru, he thinks it’s a hopeless case. Every indulgent act he does has a resigned energy to it, like he needs a punishment for his failures and Teru is the one he deemed worthy of giving it.

So is less that his admiration and care for the president blinded him to the point of doing whatever he wants, and more that he dragged himself down after the severance: he feels awful and incompetent for being the one to take Aoi to the boundary where she was 'beyond saving', to the point he was forced to agree Teru withholding info from him, as much as it hurt, was the right thing to do.

He may not be able to trust himself, but he trusts Teru's competence, he considers the president the only person that can help him save Aoi, and he needs him on his side.

He also sees him as someone worth following, which is funny cause Akane does not realize that, he looks weirded out when people show Teru respect.

But at the same time, it bothers him when people are too harsh on Teru.

This is all happening while Akane is under the impression Teru sees him as much of a failure as he sees himself, so he gets surprised when Teru trusts him with something as simple as taking a phone call for him, even though the president has already trusted him with far more important things before.

Akane only breaks out of his insecurity bubble when he and Teru get locked in a room and Teru starts venting.

This is the second event that changes his view on Teru. Cause as wild as it is to see Teru whine and complain in an undignified way, it is also familiar. It turns the now more fragile hope Akane had that their relationship is built on mutual honesty into reality.

This is so important to Akane.

Yes, they have to save Aoi asap, but no matter how inconvenient the timing, there is no way Akane would ever interrupt Teru's vent.

He is genuinely annoyed but he sits down to hear him out.

He is at his most relaxed while Teru complains, acting a bit more like the Akane pre-severance. He is always quick to bounce back, his banter with Teru feeling more snarky than resigned or resentful here, they have mutual respect.

Akane even considers leaving Teru behind to mope when he realizes their situation, able to hold on to his pre-severance beliefs of how their dynamic work, without being frustrated by their power imbalance. He does not put him on a pedestal that's high enough to dehumanize Teru but he still sees him as a dependable and trustworthy guy. So much so that when Teru insinuates he likes Aoi-chan Akane is not murderous or defeated, he looks troubled and a bit confused?

He only wants the best for Aoi-chan, his standards when it comes to her are ridiculously high, so I find it very telling that he isn’t explicitly against the idea, he pictures Teru as a good husband even.

Which is really funny to me when compared to his demoniac mental image of Teru 20 chapters ago.
