the thing with doctor who i think is that it gets better the more you know. maybe this is true of all writing but i only know doctor who so we'll focus on that. but i think it gets better the more you know this is why my fic is not very good. i dont know many things. i think if you have a background in like, just any field you can use you can make your doctor who stories more interesting. like linguistics maths physics and music are things that come to mind for me that i would like to know to make my doctor who stories more interesting but i think it can work with, like, almost anything. biology stuff also works well adds a lot. sociology stuff history. if you know how to sew really well or youve worked in meat factories. just, if you have deep knowledge about something this will enrich your doctor who stories (again, might be true for literally every writing)
but also things you can know that are just lived and not books. like i said with that post about different countries' doctor whos, every country would bring its own history and values and perspective to the stories. but also like for example the class stuff or the queer stuff you see with rtds stories like anything a writer Knows will make their stories more interesting
and thats why doctor who could literally be so good If They Diversified Their Fucking Staff. in every sense of the word. you need disabled people, trans people, racialised people, people with different religions but you need people who know other things than writing too! which i get is difficult because theyre mostly working in their fields and not writing but like there are writers who are not or have not only ever just been writers. or just get writers with some weird fucking hobbies!
even in the most basic way even if you keep your entire show white christian able-bodied man, if you have more of those you will have better stories. it will still suck! but like, less than if you only have 1 guy writing right? thats not a novel concept artists know this writers know this thats why they work together. and i get that making tv is very complex and theres a lot of interests and a lot of choices being made that arent even to do with the stories but i find it so frustrating to think about how good doctor who could be if they let other people in to put their knowledge and their perspective in the stories

the predoctoral fellowship i resubmitted in the fall not only didn't get funded, but in fact got even worse reviews than the first submission, except literally all of the reviewers' critiques were unrelated to the actual scientific merit or value of the work i was proposing. anyway i am feeling very poorly and very stupid today and hate everybody and everything, &c

Pixane is like such a well written relationship, like damn writers yall went off
You have on 1 hand Zane, a nindroid that thought he was human up until not too long ago, despite being a literal robot this man is full of emotion, literally indistinguishable from a normal human unless he told you he was a robot
And you have PIXAL on the the other hand, an assistant droid who works for Cyrus, she doesn't know shit about feeling human, like for a good portion of early Season 3 she's just "what the fuck is an 'emotion'"?, and who could blame her? To her working as an assistant and following orders has been her whole life, until she meets Zane at least
And ever so slowly Zane starts opening her eyes to the outside world, and helping her understand and feel stuff like happiness, love, sadness, etc., and generally being there for her when she's in such a forgin and unfamiliar environment
And in turn she helps him come to terms with himself and element in Season 4, she's there not only as a helping hand for Zane, notifying him of stuff around him, but she's also an emotional support to him, heck she was the one to help him calm down when he's having a literal hallucination and panic attack in the cave
Thier entire relationship throughout the show is built upon supporting each other, they both have done so much for each other, take either of them away from the other and the cookie immediately crumbles
and hell the show has shown this a lot of times, in Season 6 when Nadakhan wipes PIXAL form Zane's system, Zane almost immediately wishes it all away, and in Season 11, when Zane is sent to The Never Realm, PIXAL literally has a nightmare about losing him
I could go on and on about these 2 driods and how they complent each other so well but this post would end up way too long lmao

going back to that post about that poor soul being repeatedly mistaken for a recording on the phone at work...
i said in the tags that i get a lot of compliments for my telephone etiquette but minimal accusations of being an IVR, and at the time i put that down to the fact i answer the phone very bluntly with just "[department name], [site]" and maybe a "can i help?"
today was my first weekday back at work in 2024 (weekends don't count. we get about 5% of the phone calls) and i realised that actually probably the more important factor is that. although i have got a little better over the last two years i still have a habit of speaking at the speed of a chipmunk on amphetamines. and usually recordings are a little more laidback than that

asking the public: do any of you guys who play/played wii or gamecube know of any games with particularly good disability accommodation settings? someone i know is recovering from a paralytic situation and the movement in his hands is good but one of his shoulders can act up and cause issues in his hand. ive been looking to expand my retro library anyway and wanted opinions so the next time i visit him i can bring some good titles that we can play while we hang out.
