Ngl the main reason I finally deleted TikTok wasn’t just because of the time suck and how it was ruining my attention span or making me feel shitty about myself/everything
But because I saw possibly the worst take to date on Ukraine and that was just the straw of stupidity that broke the camels back
🇺🇳🇵🇸🇮🇱🚨 ⚠️UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY APPROVES RESOLUTION DEMANDING CEASEFIRE IN GAZA⚠️
The United Nations General Assembly approved a resolution today demanding an "immediate humanitarian ceasefire" in the Gaza Strip.
The resolution passed with resounding support, with 153 Nations voting in favor, 10 nations voting against, and 23 abstentions.
The resolution demands an "immediate humanitarian ceasefire", the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and "ensuring humanitarian access", according to the United Nations General Assembly newsroom.
The resolution also reiterated the General Assembly's demand that all parties comply with their obligations under International Law, including Humanitarian Law, "notably with regard to the protection of civilians."
According to the UN newsroom, prior to the ceasefire resolution vote, two amendments making specific reference to Hamas were voted down by the Assembly.
There were a fleet of helicopters flying in formation. OK. The one with the "President" and their "Foreign Minister" went down hard in a treacherous mountainside valley. Got it. No one in the formation knows or remembers where it went down and didn't bother to stick around or try to land nearby, and didn't even mark it on a map or send their coordinates...
I'm going to say something that's probably going to get misinterpreted but it's not because you're black that you can't have US-centric beliefs. It's not just a white person thing. At one point you'll have to acknowledge that there's a multitude of black experiences that don't align with Afro-Americans' or even British black people's, because yes, there are other countries in the world than the USA or the UK.
I see a lot of "very bad takes" on certain issues on this site, for a lack of a better word, and their main issue (beyond the condescending tone they're written in) is their blatant US-centrism, which is particularly irritating when it's coming from people who beg others to "listen to diverse voices" and "educate themselves" while they themselves can't even acknowledge realities outside of North America. Being Afro-American doesn't guarantee you don't have US American mindsets to unlearn.
I feel like tags like these were inevitable on the post about people traumatising themselves for the greater good or w/e... There is SO much emphasis on posting on tumblr and other social media being so important and so useful and we must never stop. But I would like to counterargue with the idea that posting on social media (especially tumblr) constantly does very little/nothing. If that was true then the point here becomes meaningless.
recently had a conversation with my friends that got me thinking about how very differently other people with similar political views to me feel about, like, patriotism? and, i guess, national identity? so i'm curious to see where others fall on this subject. i had to open tumblr on my computer for this. imagine.
some definitions/explanations:
"i love my country" = i feel some amount of loyalty or love to some broad idea of My Country and its symbols, not just the people in it; i am, to some degree, patriotic, even if i don't use that word to describe myself
"i'm neutral/apathetic about my country" = i have no sense of patriotic attachment to the idea of My Country and its symbols at all; possibly i don't have a strong sense of My Country as anything other than a physical location or governmental body
"i hate my country" = i feel strongly negative about the idea of My Country and its symbols, regardless of what i feel about the people in it; i have a sense of some greater identity or meaning to a Country than mere geography or government, and i think that identity/meaning is actively bad
"my country" = whatever you consider to be Yours. that might be where you physically reside, but it doesn't have to be, for example if you have a stronger connection to a different place and prefer to answer in regards to that country. but specifically this is about national identity and not cultural/ethnic/etc identity (although depending on your country those may overlap)
i put separate options for usamericans and everyone else because... well... i feel like there's an image of americans having a very specific relationship to patriotism and i wanted to see it separately
thank you for tagging me @cheer-me-up-scotty! everyone pls do this 💖

Since we've been working on Timelines tonight we wanna note that it's occasionally, like, really funny to look at any confident claims about age we make, because we're really prone to moving dates around between even stories that don't incorporate a major AU and sometimes shuffling dates around means that information will be inconsistent anyways which occasionally results in situations where people will say information that they learned from our other fics and try to apply it to new fics but nope! That's incorrect! You've been deceived by assuming that character information still remains consistent between works.
today in "continuing adventures reading the original Sherlock Holmes stories": there's this one story that was published in 1904 where Holmes is called in to help with an International Diplomatic Incident involving an ill-advised letter from a hot-headed European ruler. if Holmes doesn't solve the case, Doyle writes that it could lead to a "great war" between European countries. he then goes on to explain the general geopolitical state of Europe and Britain's status as a country that could entirely rearrange the power structure of the continent except they like to remain neutral mostly . . . in a way that more or less neatly describes the geopolitical calculations of the July Crisis that would lead to World War 1 ten years later. the estimation that such a war could lead to hundreds of thousands dead is off (the total death toll for WW1 is around 40,000,000), but it's still very eerily prescient to read at this remove. a catastrophic disaster hanging over all their heads being foretold in a trashy throwaway mystery story ten years in advance
UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY PASSES RESOLUTION TO REEVALUATE PALESTINE UN MEMBERSHIP BID
The United Nations General Assembly passed on Friday a resolution calling for the reevaluation of Palestine's bid for membership to the General Assembly, and to grant the State of Palestine additional rights.
The resolution, which was drafted and pushed by the United Arab Emirates, co-sponsored by Turkiye, and signed onto by an additional 80 nations, was passed and adopted by an overwhelming majority of 143 member-states voting in favor, with just 9 countries voting against the resolution, and another 25 abstentions.
Further, the adopted resolution lamented the previous veto by the United States of a resolution calling for Palestinian membership, voted on in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), while calling for the preservation of Justice and respect for Palestinians' fundamental human rights.
The resolution emphasized the importance of respecting the territorial integrity of the occupied Palestinian territories and East Jerusalem, pointing out that Palestine is "qualified for membership in the United Nations" in accordance with UN Charter of Article 4. It also urged the UNSC to reconsider Palestine's membership bid "favorably."
Previously, in 2011, the State of Palestine applied for full membership at the United Nations, but could not gather enough support to pass a resolution in its favor, only receiving "permanent observer status" as of 2012.
I’m actually very stressed rn idk what but something very DUBIOUS is going to happen. I don’t trust Barcelona after what they did last time and what they might still do. And I know Leo will keep trying to push it bc of Antonella and the kids.
tbh something dubious is always happening behind the scenes at barça. it's ze history of the futbol club bassalona (seriously. just read up on their history). fans see the romantics of a last dance, but the club as well as the league plan on piggybacking off him, so he's going to be a bit of a tool and he honestly can't do anything abt it. maybe xavi sees this too. maybe that's why he said it all depends on him: is he willing to sacrifice his comfort and deal with the politicking just to play for barça again?
Dude I relate to your bio so hard. Sometimes I’m like ‘why does nobody talk about this show wtf!!’ and then I remember that the show came out 15 years ago and the events happened literally 20 years ago in march lmao
So yeah it’s definitely a product of its time and obv won’t be as relevant anymore today, but I only watched it for the first time a few months ago and I’m still depressed over the end scene with Johnny cash playing :(
I'm still confused why some(one) was so bothered that I post about Afghanistan as a non-Afghan. I assume if you're Afghan you'd appreciate that someone is sharing another side of your country that isn't just war and poverty. I guess not.
been feeling some kind of way since attending one of the local conventions around here, there was a lot more anime stuff than before which was neat and some of the panels were interesting but attending them seeing all white panelists talking about nuanced subject matters sure is huh.
