Gene Team
As an organism evolves, its DNA does too. Tracing the history of how it mutates, moves and duplicates can reveal surprises, like similar genes – paralogues – in distant corners of the genome. Here researchers use optical projection tomography to follow the activity of a gene called Utrn (highlighted in red) in a mouse embryo. Combining patterns of bioluminescence and fluorescence to reconstruct this 3D image reveals Utrn in many of the mouse’s early tissues. Utrn has a paralogue, Dmd, another important developmental gene found to be faulty in Duchenne muscular dystrophy in mice and humans. While these similar genes are expressed differently in health and disease, researchers believe it might be possible for Utrn to 'compensate' for Dmd in some patients. This mouse model will aid the next challenge – testing drugs to coax these related genes into working together.

So I've been hearing the phrase "I have no mouth, but I must scream" a lot lately, and it surprised me because I have met so few people who know that author, let alone enough to quote even the title of one of his stories.
So I'm asking you.

ok one more idea to toss out there before I go to bed
been playing a lot of Trombone Champ lately and it’s hilarious fun
enough so that I’ve decided to modify a “controller” so I can more closely mimic playing a trombone as I play this game
I have an outline of how to do that with a wireless USB mouse which likely be my first prototype but I can already see some limitations from that I’ll just deal with initially
anyway
are there any USB input devices with any part that kind of mimics a trombone slide already? I can’t imagine there are but who knows. there do be some weird shit out there. anything you physically push/pull up/down or in/out might have potential if that action is tied to a USB input

Finding out that mouser ships here + finding out that they still stock vacuum fluorescent displays + finding out that I can order 500 of them for $25 is running through my head like that post where someone went to McDonalds and got like 200 nuggets for "the low low price of $10"

What is an optical mouse? | Definition from WhatIs
What is an optical mouse? An optical mouse is an advanced computer pointing device that uses a light-emitting diode (LED), optical sensor and digital signal processor (DSP) in place of the traditional mouse ball and electromechanical transducer. Movement is detected by sensing changes in reflected light, rather than by interpreting the motion of a rolling sphere. The optical mouse is a…

Kensington Expert Optical Mouse
Kensington Technical Customer Service basically tells me they don't care if I'm a customer.
Let me start this rant with a simple fact: I have loved these mice for years. I’ve had these mice for years. I have sold and recommended these mice for years. They are durable, tough and last for years. In the last 20+ years I’ve personally owned three of them. For the most part they still work in some fashion but I’ve replaced them for whatever personal reason I had. Kensington customer service…
